If you are using iOS 5 or later you can change the name of your device, using your device - Settings, General, About and the first option is name tap on the name of your device and you can change it. I hope this is of any help to you
I'm so sorry for that reply i have just read what i wrote and that is useless, all i can think of is if you right click on your device in ''my computer'' and then click on properties and change the name of you device that way.

  • How to rename registered devices on Profile Manager

When we use the Profile Manager for our iPad control, we can not select the each iPad to rename them . Is there any way we can rename the devices in Server side? Would you advise us how we can configure in Server side for allowing to rename them?
    We use OS X:10.9.5/iOS:8.1/Server:3.2.2

You can only rename supervised devices with the profile manager.
All other devices will not show the Rename option at the Devices section.
The users can rename the devices and the new name will be shown after executing "Update Info" at the profile manager. I don't know any other way, with the exception of using the Apple Configurator.

  • IPod shows as Portable Device

HELP! i changed my iPod's name in iTunes but the name it shows as a portable device in MY COMPUTER has it's previous name..
    How to change it?

There is no fix for this that I know of. My iPod comes up as the name of my sister’s iPod name. it does not affect anything technically, it’s just not as pretty.

  • IPod Touch 8GB not recognized as a Portable Device.

I cannot get my iPod to appear as a portable device in My Computer or Device Manager. When I plug it in, the computer shows that a Digital Still Camera has been connected and begins to search for "preconfigured driver folders."
My problem is that I had to completely restore my computer to factory settings and reinstall everything. I have like 1000 songs on my iPod but cannot sync to iTunes b/c it says that my iPod is synced to another library (I guess the one that was previously on this computer). I don't want to lose all of my songs.
    What can I do?

You have two problems that need to be corrected.
This article should take care of your digital camera issues: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1500
You also need to make sure that Apple Mobile Device Services are up and running: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
When set up iTunes, did you import your existing library or is all of your music on your touch? If everything is still on your touch, then you can use a freeware program like Pod to PC to load the music back into your computer.
If you have reconstituted your library in iTunes from backups, you can go ahead and let it sync.

  • How can I rename my iTouch when the computer recognizes it as a digital camera device?

I just bought a new iTouch and I named it "Jamie's iPod". When I plug it into the computer, it recognizes it as a digital camera portable device as well. But the name of the digital camera device is different from what I named it, even though I never did name it. How do I change it?
Even if I right-click it and go to properties to try to change the name, it doesn't work. (I use Windows 7.)
    Thanks in advance!

On the Pc While your iPod Touch is Connected to your computer . You can go to the Decive Manger  > Portable Devices > Apple Ipod . Right Click and Uninstall ( This will not earse nothing) Then Unpulg the cable from your device and  replug it. Pow it chage to Apple Ipod as how the computer should read it. (becuase it looks cooler. and the computer is like you just plug a Apple iPod Portable Device)

  • IPod touch 4g is not recognized in my computer as a portable device, help?

I have an iPod Touch 4th generation (4.2.1) and the computer it was initially synced with (a Dell Inspiron laptop) is no longer working.  I would like to update the iPod software via iTunes, and I have already transferred purchases and backed up my iPod, but now I need to secure my music before it restores my iPod and I am left with none of my music from my Dell laptop.
I know that I can easily transfer my songs from my iPod to a folder on my computer just as long as I can actually get my iPod to show up in "My Computer" under "Portable Devices".  But as of now, my iPod only shows up as a "Digital Camera".
Please, someone, anyone, HOW CAN I GET MY IPOD 4G TO SHOW UP UNDER "MY COMPUTER > PORTABLE DEVICES?"
I have been working at this for HOURS, I just want to update my iPod and keep all of my music, I don't think this is "illegal", nor should it be so difficult to simply secure music from a previous PC.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Problems with renaming device under Windows 7's "Portable Devices"

I recently purchased an iPod touch 4g 32gb unit from ebay which still has about 3 months of warranty left on it.  The touch came with the previous 4.3.3 iOS installed on it and also jailbroken, so I upgraded to 5.0.1.  After installing the cord and setting up my new iPod through iTunes, I noticed under My Computer through Windows 7, under Portable Devices that the ipod Touch came up labeled as "AEIPOD TOUCH 4 4.3.3.3 32gb".
I tried going into the properties and renaming it, and couldn't, but through iTunes, I was able to successfully rename it.  I would appreciate any help/feedback as to what I can do fix it, or if I might have to send it to Apple.
    Thanks!

  • How do I transfer "device backup files" to a new computer?

How do I transfer "device backup files" to a new computer?

Place the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.  If there's no iWeb folder create one and put it in there.  Now try to launch iWeb and see if it will find and open the Domain file.
If you still can't open the domain file do the following:
To open your domain file in Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script"/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"
    delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
NOTE: Since Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For Mavericks and Yosemite go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

  • HT1495 how can i sync aps on multiple devices on one computer

Trying to use multiple devices on same computer but don't want the devices to have all the same aps.  how can i seperate that without having to check the aps i want each time a sync?

Assuming the photos are in an iPhoto Library on the Air and you want to import them into your iPhoto Library on your Powermac there is an application that can copy all photos in the Air library that are not in your Powermac library into your Powermac library.  However, no keywords or other metadeata willl be brought over with them and they will come over in a new event each time you run it. Take a look at: Sync iPhoto libraries | SyncPhotos (formerly iPhotoSync) | Haystack Software.
There's another application,  iPhoto Library Manager, that will let you copy events or albums from the Air library to the Powermac library. However, you will have to select the events/albums you want to copy. It's not automatic.  This method will copy keywords and other metadata along with the photos.

  • Can iTunes sync to two portable devices on the same computer?

I currently have an iPod that is synced to iTunes9 on my G5 iMac desktop computer.  I recently received an iPad Air 2 as a gift as gift and now would like to sync that to iTunes as well.  Is iTunes9 capable of syncing to two portable devices?

Yes, in terms of multiple devices but I doubt an iPad air be able to sync to something as old as iTunes9.  Usually iOS devices need the version of iTunes that was current at the time the device was sold.  I don't know all the system requirements by heart but I strongly suspect if you truly have a G5 (PPC) computer there is no way you will get a newer device to work with it.  To do so would require a system upgrade higher than you can do on a G5.

You did install the latest iTunes (10.5) right?  If the problem was that iTunes does not see the iPod try:
