How to rename "Windows" for boot selection

Greetings,
I'm trying to figure out how to properly rename "Windows" for the boot selection screen. I currently have two XP Pro installs and after holding the 'Alt' key I have to choose between 'Mac Pro', 'Windows' and 'Windows'.
I thought maybe it was something in the boot.ini via Windows XP's root directory, but I think it's changed somewhere else.

Apple didn't support RC1 or 64-bit versions. I am oppossed to putting Windows on the same disk drive as OS X, and even then, I think I'd want to put primary OS (whatever it is, linux, XP etc) on the first partition anyway.
I'd be in way over my head with tweaking a bootloader with 3rd party tool. I keep buying tools that don't work, don't support x64 or something.
Can you imagine a backup program for Vista that then says it doesn't support native disk drives? claims I have Dynamic Drives when they are in fact reported as Simple (I did play around with stripping but those are gone.
I have a hunch that no one has tested their products fully on EFI based systems, and if they have, Itanium and therefore treat Mac Pro as "server class" and maybe why their product is "confused" when it sees GPL and EFI partitions.
Leo dropped support for Java 6 and I work with one application that just doesn't seem to exist on Mac, so for once I feel freed to use hardware and software I need.... mostly... for once. Not the other way around.

How to create popup window for data selection in maintenance view. For example when you go to view v_t510 in se16, there you will see a popup window to enter values. after you enter the values in that window, then data related to those values that you entered in the popup window will displayed.
How can we do that for the custom maintenance view?

In your custom maintainace view, if you select the Data browser / Table view maintainace under the tab "Maint Status" as "Dispaly maintanence allowed with restriction" than system will give you popup to restrict by selection.

How do I search for and select a repeating phrase in a file read via Applescript. The file contains details of phone calls submitted to a charity and I want to be able to analyse the types of call taken. The phrase is 'Type of enquiry' and I want to extract the description that follows. I am a beginner at Applescript and have been working my way through Applescript 1-2-3 but cannot find an obvious solution although I have manged to open and read the file! All suggestions gratefully received.

In applescript you can use something like the following:
set {oldTID, my text item delimiters} to {my text item delimiters, "Type of enquiry"}
set dataBits to text items of textToParse
set my text item delimiters to oldTID
the variable dataBits, then, will be a list where every list item is a string that starts with the text following that phrase.
You could do regular expressions searches as well, but you'd need to download and install the Satimage osax.

The BootCamp Drivers (or Windows Support Software) is on the OSX Snow Leopard 10.6 Installation DVD 1 that came with your MacBook.
Insert that disc after successful installation of Windows and while in Windows.

Help! How to start windows in boot camp?

I have read several posts on this but I still cannot seem to get it started. I recently bought a macbook with bootcamp set up with windows xp. I had vmware fusion on my computer to use windows but I uninstalled it because I cannot use it for the purpose of windows that I need. Now, I do not know how to start windows on my computer. I cannot use a virtual machine because my exam software that I use for school will not start up when using a virtual machine.
I restart my computer and hold down the option key and the only hard drive that shows up is the Mac HD. The boot camp drive does not show up. So, if I cannot start windows that way...is there any other way???

That sounds like your computer came with VM Fusion, and was not set up with boot camp. Please prove me wrong.
First, how many disk icons are on your Mac OS desktop? Is there just the Macintosh HD icon, or is there another disk icon labelled, say, "Untitled" or "Boot Camp".
Second, open /Applications/Disk Utility. Select your hard drive (not the Macintosh HD volume, but the actual hard drive, just above the Macintosh HD volume). Then click the "partition tab". How many partitions do you have. Does it show one HFS+ Journaled volume, or more than one partition and of what types.
Third, if you did see a second disk icon in step one, select it and hit CMD-I. What is its used and free space? Open it in Finder: is there a boot.ini file? A Windows folder?
Fourth--I should have thought of this first, sorry--some MacBooks have a bug that Option doesn't let you select an OS. So open Apple > System Preferences > Startup Disk and see if there is a Windows there for you to select. If so, select it and "reboot now" to boot into Windows. To boot back into Mac OS, you can either use the option key, or use the boot camp system tray icon to select Mac OS as your startup disk.
Finally, did your computer come with a Windows XP CD?

Seeing you are on 10.5.8 ? then that really goes back to 2008, too.
But G5s never supported Windows, so guess you have a different system now.

I have reinstalled Windows 10 beta twice on my test laptop. But when I install Windows 7 now it will no more boot. I will just see a black screen.
Sometimes I event can’t format the old partitions with the Windows 7 DVD. Then I have to delete all Partitions with a Paragon recovery Linux CD. I think the problem is because the Windows 10 Boot Managers?
If yes how can I get rid of them both?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

How to Rename Windows Partition

I used WinClone to create a Windows partition on my Mac drive and restored a previously-saved backup of the Windows installation. Everything worked perfectly except that WinClone renamed the Windows partition "untitled" when it performed the restoration. Now that volume is "read only" and therefore cannot be renamed from the Mac desktop, not even by Root.
How does one rename the Windows partition? Thanks!

How to rename "Kind" for file types

In finder, "Kind" describes file type. With my defaults
.doc kind is "Microsoft Word 97 - 2004 document"
.xls kind is "Microsoft Excel 97-2004 workbook"
.ppt kind is "Microsoft PowerPoint 97-2004 presentation"
.pdf kind is "Portable Document Format (PDF)"
and so forth.
I wish to edit the string describing the file type.
Where is this string stored? How can I edit it?
I am not trying to change the associated application, just the description under "Kind" in Finder for that application, or for the file type if that's how it's stored.
It was easy in Windows XP, surely there is a way in OS-X.

For anyone trying to do this, here's more exactly what I did to change the "Kind" description for ".doc" files:
In Finder, Applications folder, Microsoft Office 2008 folder, control-click Microsoft Word.app, select "Show Package Contents". In Contents folder, select info.plist.
Open info.plist using Property List Editor.app, available on the OS-X distribution disks in the developer section.
Next to "Root", option-click the disclosure triangle to see all values.
Scan the values, edit the values by clicking on them.
Warning: follow these instructions at your own risk.

You have to put the rows into a datatable. It is usually best if your original source is a datatable. The filter the original datatable. The selected rows of the datagrid are the same row numbers in the source datatable.

I have an iMac. I have the program Parallels Destop 8 for Mac. I have a Windows XP Home Edition disk and a Windows Vista upgrade disk.
How do I install Windows?
I have tried from installing the Parallels program and it is saying there is not a version of Windows installed. DUH! That is what I am trying to do.

How to Recover Window 7 Booting after a Yosemite 10.10.2 Reload

I was working with Apple Technicians to solve a problem that showed up with Yosemite 10.10.2 . They finally gave up and asked me to reload the hard drive with OS X 9. . I reloaded using Time Machine backups. Everything worked and I let Apples software update program update the operating system to 10.10.2 . In the process of reloading, I lost the ability to boot to Windows 7. The window icon never comes up when you boot with the option key depressed.
The bootcamp partition shows on the desk top and the files are apparently good. My question is ' Is there a way to recover booting to Windows without destroying the bootcamp partition?'

If you can post the output of the following Terminal commands, a prognosis can be provided.
diskutil list
diskutil cs list
sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0
sudo fdisk /dev/disk0
For "sudo" commands, you will be prompted for your password, which will not be echoed back. "sudo" will also warn about improper usage and potential data loss resulting from such "abuse".
