How to render in Final Cut Express without widescreen and black bars?

Hi there,
I have been having problems when importing my xbox 360 gameplay into FCE, when it is imported it says it needs to be "rendered" when I complete the render the gameplay turns into widescreen with black bars on top and bottom.
Watch this video on youtube and you can see what I mean
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0Wi0hDq-iU
I have searched and searched on the net but found nothing useful that could help me.
So any tips info would be greatly appreciated, thanks Chris.

Do you mean size format and time length? If not please explain for me.
If so, the original file size, length and format that is going into Steamclip is 200mb, is an mp4 and goes for 2:12 minutes.
Then after I convert this file it becomes a mov file and the size is increased to 1.02 GB does this seem like I am doing this right in MPEG Streamclip?
I only just got FCE two days ago so I don't really know how to check the item properties in FCE, could you please tell me how?"
Thanks, Chris.

If you export the project from FCE you can import the QuickTime into FCP. You can do limited work to it like adding titles.

  • How do i update final cut express HD 3.0

    Hi
I have a question regarding final cut express HD 3.0
I have a imac that has 2GHz Intel Core duo, that got a memory upgrade to 2GB and upgraded the OS to 10.6.8
that is as far as i can upgrade, because the processor won't accept the newer OS, but anyways I was reinstalling final cut express after upgrading
and then i tried to open a project i was working on, only to have it say that the file is newer than the application.
I tried to find update for FCE, but i don't see it available anymore, i see that FCE 4.0 is availble, but for a price.
Is there any way that i can update to 3.5, or do i have to budget for 4.0
    thanks for any help

I'm not quite sure what FCE version was before the OS upgrade.
When i open the file, it goes all the way to beginning to bring the editor up, then it stops and says "File's format is too new for this version of the application"
which i am guessing that FCE needs updated, thats what i am getting from the message.
As far as i know it installed in default location, it is in the application folder.  I'm beginning to learn the mac basics and programs.
I didn't install the soundtrack or live type, should i have installed those too?
how do you uninstall FCE?  I will try and install it again and install everything and see if that works.
I was just trying to save hdd space in not installing everything, but if i need to i will install everything.

How do I copy final cut express from my computer onto a laptop?

You don't.  Several of the system level components won't be installed properly if you copy or 'migrate' to a new computer.  You'll need to install from the original install discs.

You can have them both on the same computer as I and many others have done for years.
Just go ahead and install FCS 3 normally.
There will be absolutely no problems.

  • How do I render in Final Cut Express?

I installed Final Cut Express 4 yesterday.  I cannot render anything! When I try to render it says "Warning: Insufficient disk space for render. Please free up space and retry."  I have deleted preferences and it still will not render.  I have also made room by deleting files but it still will not work! What do I do?

    Hi
There are some major differences in how video-editing programs works.
Just to Start and get on with FinalCut is one of them. It doesn't store and keep material as iMovie any version.
So a book on howto can be of Great Value - I used

  • How to Import WMV's into Final Cut Express WithOUT Flip4Mac

How can I import a .wmv into Final Cut Express v.1.0 without using Flip4Mac? I am doing a video for a friend who gave me a .wmv file and it throws up a "Flip4Mac Free Trial" watermark. So lame. Is there a free version of something I can use? I googled but couldn't find. Any suggestions? Thanks SO much in advance.

There aren't any free import/export components for WMV content. F4M is the best, since it's integrated into FC, but, as you've found out, without paying the $49., the free version limits the clip to 1/2 it's duration up to 30 seconds, and puts the watermark on.
The other software that converts is Visual Hub, but it doesn't have the FC integration...it's slightly cheaper.
There's one other option HERE, that I have not tried. Supposedly they will convert video to other formats for you.

  • Final cut express without firewire

I had to shoot with a small camera without firewire, it has only USB. When I connect it to the computer, adobe photo downloader opens. How to get the files in to Final Cut Express ? Thank you. Katalin

Your HDR-CX116E shoots high def video as AVCHD, so FCE should work with it.
If Adobe Photo Downloader is getting in the way when you connect your camera, just close Photo Downloader and then start FCE.   It should recognize your camera.  Use FCE's Log & Transfer function to import the video clips.
Alternatively, look in Adobe Photo Downloader preferences to see if there is a way to make it ignore video.
    Notes:
You will need to select an Easy Setup in FCE that corresponds to your video's frame size (probably 1920x1080)
Standard def mode in this camcorder saves video as MPEG2, which cannot be directly edited in FCE.  If you are using this mode let us know and we can provide more info.

  • How do  register for final cut express which came pre-installed? i'm being asked to provide a serial number - how is that possible?

how do i find the serial number for software that was pre-installed on my imac? it's the final cut express software - which i can't use without the serial number .... help, please! d.s.

When you purchase a computer from Apple with pre-installed software it comes with the OS install discs, the iLife install disc, and any other installation discs. You should have an FCE installation disc. The serial number should be on the disc.

  • How can I use Final Cut Express in a Mac Pro

I want to know how could I use my Final Cut Express HD programm (Version 3) in my new Mac Pro.

FCE 3.0 was not designed to work with Intel based Macs when they were introduced years ago so you have no chance with a modern Mac.
You must upgrade to FCE 4 unless you want to move onto Final Cut Pro X which is designed to be used with the latest technology.
Final Cut Studio 3 will also work OK.

  • Converting .MTS for use in Final Cut Express, without loosing quality

I have an external hard drive full of .MTS files from my JVC camcorder that I cannot open with Final Cut Express.
I bought a piece of conversion software, iSkySoft Video Converter, to convert them into a more accessible format such as .mov or .avi, but they lose their HD quality during the conversion. I have also tried software available through Mac, Voltaic, but this also seems to dilute picture quality.
In a previous post, I was recommended Clip Wrap, but having downloaded it, it will not let me open my .MTS files to convert in the first place. I have contacted Clip Wrap Support about this, but am yet to hear back.
I would like suggestions as to how to open these .MTS files in Final Cut, or a piece of conversion software that retains full high definition quality when converting.
I am not very computer savvy, Im afraid, so can any technical jargon be explained as best as possible please! Just for reference, in case it helps, my camcorder is a JVC GZ-HD10.
    Thank you.

MarkTrif, if iskysoft isn't working, use mpeg streamclip to try again, it is free. or get another good third party MTS converter like HD Video Converter for Mac, specially designed to convert HD video formats like AVCHD (mts, m2ts), H.264/AVC, MPEG-2 (ts), DivX, HD WMV, MPEG-4 to SD videos like AVI, MPEG, WMV, MP4, DivX, MOV, my friends recommend it to me, it's safe and works pretty well for me. keep the video image quality. • How do I uninstall Final Cut Express to sell?

I want to sell my copy of Final Cut Express HD as I no longer need it. How do I uninstall the software so that the buyer will experience no licensing issues when they come to install it on their own Mac?

No and he wouldn't have had any problems even if you hadn't uninstalled it.
All that happens is that whenever a new person registers it overwrites the previous person.
In any case it's really a waste of time registering as it confers no benefits other than getting rid of the "nag-screen" asking you to register after every fifth launch of FCE!

  • Final Cut Express issues: Video and no audio

Ok.. sorry about before. I posted in someone elses message, for that I'm sorry.
My name is Justin Smith. I'm a freelance videographer out in Kansas. I have a brand new Macbook Pro. I'm shooting with a Dvx-100. I took my camera and tried to import video into Final Cut Express. When the short video clip was finished capturing, I tried putting it to the timeline, but only the video was added. So I have video, no audio and a bunch of questions. How do I get my orginal audio from the tape onto the timeline? Also, I have a question about importing audio from say Itunes. I can import the song fine, But when I lay the track down on the timeline, I'm getting a continuous beep noise. I read the FAQ and it told me I have to convert the track to AIFF? How do I do this?

As for importing audio from iTunes, yes, you must convert it to AIFF first. iTunes can do this unless you purchased the songs from the iTunes Music Store. If you did, they are protected AAC files and won't convert. There are ways to do it but since it most likely violates the copyright, no one on this forum can legally tell you how to do it.
If they are not protected, then go to iTunes preferences, select the Advanced icon at the top and click the Importing tab. Select AIFF encoder from the "Import Using" popup menu and make sure the settings are 48khz. Then select the song from the library and choose (from the menu bar) Advanced->Convert Selection To AIFF. A new music file in AIFF format will appear in your library.
Another way is to use Quicktime Pro (the paid version of Quicktime). Open the music file in Quicktime, choose Export and select AIFF, 48Khz, 16bit for the format. Again, this won't work if its an iTunes protected file.
