How to repackage "jre-7u72-windows-i586.exe" application and deploy through SCCM 2012

Hi,
Along with IE 11 we are planning to deploy "jre-7u72-windows-i586.exe"
Created transform file for "jre-7u72-windows-i586.exe" by using Adminstudio Installshield.
Identified vendor .MSI file at

My queries:
Do we have any best practices while repackaging “jre-7u72-windows-i586.exe?” by Adminstudio
How to deploy the jre-7u72-windows-i586.exe application assuming with parallel deployment of IE
  11.
Do we uninstall lower versions of Java when installing any newer versions like jre-7u72-windows-i586.exe?
if yes then how to handle
Do we install jre-7u72-windows-i586.exe application without uninstallations of any lower version of JAVA , if yes then how to handle
Looking for best practices / Customizations ?
Thanks, appreciate your help.

Alternatively, why not actually reference Oracle official documentation or post in their forums (because as Torsten said, this really has nothing to do with ConfigMgr or Microsoft even).
http://java.com/en/download/help/msi_install.xml looks to be a great place to start.

  • Windows Updates constantly failing and reverting after SCCM 2012 R2 pushes out updates

    Hi folks,
I wonder could anyone help me with a strange problem I am having!
We use SCCM 2012 R2 and I am trying to roll out updates to a Windows 2008 R2 Standard 64 bit server.
When I deploy the updates to the server they get to the server and install but during the reboot it says Windows Modules Installer for a while then shows the failure configuring Windows Updates, reverting changes screen.
I’ve tried the suggestions of disabling 'Windows Management Instrumentation' and 'Windows Modules Installer' and renaming the repository folder but still no joy.
If I use Windows Update to install the updates the updates do go on but then when I add it to the collection in SCCM to push out the patches it sees the server as if the updates aren’t installed and begins doing the installs.
After the patches installs using SCCM and when the server is rebooted it goes back into the loop of saying Windows Modules Installer and reverts the updates and strips out the patches again.
I was hoping that when the Windows Updates were installed via Windows Update and once I put the server into the collection to push out the updates to the server it would have shown that the updates are already installed on the server and show that server
as being compliant in SCCM but unfortunately that isn’t happening.
It sights a couple of errors in the Setup event logs on the offending server: -
For multiple patches - Package KBXXXXXXX failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x80070643
For multiple patches - Initiating changes for package KBXXXXXXX. Current state is Invalid Resolved. Target state is Installed. Client id: WindowsUpdateAgent.
    After doing some research,
0x80070643 refers to a .Net Framework issue so I’ve ran a .Net Repair tool but that didn’t work either so I’m running out of ideas so any help would be greatly appreciated on how I can get this sever updated using SCCM and showing as compliant.
    Thanks,
    Bonemister

    Hi Torsten,
    Thanks for your reply!
I was afraid you were going to say that as it just doesn't make sense that when I install the update using Windows Update via the Ire-nternet and when the install and re-scan no updates are required.  It is only when I ask SCCM to check for patches
that it sees updates are missing and installed the updates before the OS reverts when.
Is there a way in SCCM to remove the record of what patches have been installed onto a particular server?  I tried deleted the server out of SCCM then applying the Windows Updates via the web then added the server back into SCCM and see did it pick
up the newly installed updates on the server.
The thing is I don't think that WindowsUpdate.log will show any failures as Windows update is showing as no more updates required.  It is just when SCCM installs that patches that the problem happens so that is what is leading me to think it is an SCCM
    problem.
My main goal is to get the updates into the server and for it so show as complient!
I'll check back through the even logs again.  Are they any SCCM logs that show patches failing to install and why?
    Thanks again,
    Bonemister

  • Window OS deployment through SCCM 2012 R2

Hi all.  I am trying to deploy Window OS by using SCCM2012 R2.  Here is our server setup: SCCM2012 R2 server is in our data center, running SCCM2012 R2 (no other role on this server) in a different subnet, VLAN; while client PC is in our office,
also in its own subnet and VLAN.  We've got 2 DHCP server and domain controller, both role installed on one server; one located in the datacenter where SCCM2012R2 server is located, and another one located in the office.  I've done the following:
The OS image has been captured
Operating system package has been created
A task sequence has been created
    A collection created
All necessary deployments have been completed
    Network account has been created
However, during the PXE boot on the client PC, it respond with the error:
    PXE-E53: No boot filename received
    PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.
If the SCCM2012 server is located in the same subnet and location, then I guess this should work (with DHCP option 60, etc.).  However, since the server and the client were in different location, VLAN, and subnet, I am wondering what else I need to
configure to successfully deploy OS through SCCM2012 R2.  In our layer 3 switch, I can see it have the "ip helper-address" entry pointing to our DHCP server at the data center, I am wondering if I add another "ip helper-address" that
points to the SCCM2012 R2 server would make any differences.  Any suggestion is welcomed.  Thank you.

Ok, I can confirmed I need to add my SCCM2012 server IP address as a ip helper IP to our layer 3 switch configuration, which act as the default gateway in our office.  I haven't try out the DHCP option, so not sure if that work, but ip helper is what
I need to solve my PXE boot issue.  Once I done the ip helper command, I am able to complete the PXE boot on the client machine, and enter the task sequence.  Now I am having a different problem.  After the WIM file had been downloaded and installed,
task sequence now responded with error "0x80000045" and auto restarted the machine.  More oddly, Windows start up fine and I am able to login, but I am pretty sure rest of the task sequence haven't been completed, because it should join the machine to
the domain, which it haven't done so.  I will open another question for this issue.  Thanks guys for pointing me to the correct direction.

  • How do I install required plug-in jre-1_5_0_11-windows-i586.xpi

I'm trying to use Mozilla Firefox 3.6.15 with the Web Version of QPASA 4.0.0.80a, an MQSeries monitoring tool. When I point to the QPASA URL, I'm prompted to install a plugin. However, when I try to install it, Firefox looks for http://javadl-esd.sun.com/update/1.5.0/jre-1_5_0_11-windows-i586.xpi, but says it can't install it because the Install script was not found (-204).
When I google jre-1_5_0_11-windows-i586.xpi, I find it's actually located at http://java.sun.com/update/1.5.0/jre-1_5_0_11-windows-i586.xpi. However, even when I paste this location into the Firefox url window, Firefox STILL insists on looking for it in http://javadl-esd.sun.com/update/1.5.0/jre-1_5_0_11-windows-i586.xpi and fails.
How can I get Firefox to look for this file in the correct location?

That xpi package looks like an installer for Java 1.5.0-11, that is from 2006 - 5 years ago. You really don't want to install Java 1.5.0-11 because it won't work with Firefox 3.6+ versions, which need Java 1.6.0-12 or higher with the Second Generation Plugin.
The file I got from both of those URL's is the same (right-click the link and use Save Link As... so Firefox doesn't try to install it and fail - then open it with 7-Zip to examine the internal files). That XPI package is too old for recent versions of Firefox, it has an install.js file that was used by Firefox 1.5 and prior versions. Firefox 2.0 and newer use an install.rdf file.

  • J2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586.exe  Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtim

    I am using Netscape 6.2.1, Windows 98
    I download Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.4.1_01
    * Download j2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586.exe .
    Filesize = 8,015,928 bytes.
When I looked in the directory the file was listed as
    j2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586
    7,829KB
Does the file downloaded size discrepency have significance?
Double clicking on the file activated the process:
    "After the InstallShield Wizard
    Setup Status
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_01 Setup is performing the requested operations."
After that function appered to finish with a 100% complete, I received the following error:
    "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C:\PROGRAM FILES\JAVA\J2RE1.4.1_01\LIB\UNPACK.EXE
    abnormal program termination
    OK"
Note, I may have installed Visual C++ in the past but have never used it. Does this error imply there are some missing links to Visual C++ that have confused and caused an error?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    [email protected]

    Hi, crlare,
    The official file size
    8,015,928 bytes
    = (8,015,928 / 1024) kilobytes, since 1 kbyte = 1024 bytes
    = 7828.0546875 kbytes
= 7829 kbytes after rounding up
Therefore your downloaded file seems to have the correct size. To make a better check,
    1. right click on your downloaded file;
    2. select Properties;
    3. check the size in bytes in brackets against the official size in bytes; the "bytes used" is the actual space allocated to store the data.
The Visual C++ runtime error is caused by a faulty installation of the Java bundle, which could have arisen due to interference by other applications that are open during the installation of the Java bundle. e.g. Interference by virus protection software running in the background. This error has also been known to occur in the installations of other programs.
To fix the problem, uninstall the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) you have installed, and reinstall it with all non-critical applications closed:
    1. Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs, select Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_01 (or something similar), click on the Add/Remove button to uninstall the JRE.
    3. Reboot your system.
    4. Close all non-critical applications, including background running programs such as antivirus programs and Microsoft Task Scheduler. This can be checked/done by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del, selecting each item except Explorer (and Systray), and clicking End Task for each.
    5. Reinstall the JRE.
    6. Reboot your system.
    Hope this helps.

  • Install fails j2re-1_4_2_01-windows-i586.exe

I'm also having this problem with j2sdk-1_4_2_01-windows-i586.exe. The install starts ok, but I ghen get "Failed to extract file Dll_.ini" from the binary table. the 1.3 runtime installs fine, but it looks like the installer changed with 1.4

I finally got this running, but it doesn't make a lot of sense. I took a look at: http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.asp?pcode=ALL&articleid=Q105416&source=support_central&product=wind
I wasn't willing to make all the security changes it suggested, but tried a couple of them which didn't work and I restored the original permissions. I noticed that most if not all gave permissions to local admins, but not domain admins. That gave me the idea of trying log on to the local machine. I did that and both the jre and jdk installed without a hitch. I can't explain why this worked as this machine and my office machine are virtually the same and I built most of both networks. I log on to both machines with my domain userid. The office machine worked the first time. I will be taking a look at the installshield article again to compare the settings on both machines.
Bottom line, try logging in on the local machine and installing.

  • J2sdk-1_4_1-windows-i586.exe corrupted (cannot unpack)

    I cannot install j2sdk 1.4.1.
First I downloaded it from http://java.sun.com/webapps/download/DisplayLinks
"You have chosen to download Java(TM) 2 SDK, Standard Edition 1.4.1
    Download j2sdk-1_4_1-windows-i586.exe .
    Filesize = 37,724,482 bytes."
    to
    c:\Downloads\j2sdk-1_4_1-windows-i586.exe 37,724,482 bytes
    Correct number of bytes.
Double-clicking on this file brings up a dialog with title
"Java 2 SDK - InstallShield Wizard"
with a progress bar labelled "Reading contents of package..."
The progress bar reaches 100% and then starts from 0 again. Shortly after, the dialog is replaced with an error dialog stating:
"The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity, and try again."
This is the third time that I have tried to install the Java 2 SDK and each time I have had the same result. Each time the downloaded file has had the correct number of bytes. There are many posts here describing the same problem, but I have not seen one that has a universal solution.
It seems to me that the problem is to do with the installation environment:
    Operating system: Windows 95 Copyright 1981 1996
Pentium MMX 166 MHz, 64 MB RAM, 3GB unused disk space
    J2SDK-1_4_1-WINDOWS-I586.EXE Dependencies:

    KERNEL32.DLL 4.0.0.1111
    LZ32.DLL 4.0.0.950
    SHELL32. DLL 4.0.0.1111
    USER32. DLL 4.0.0.950
I have 2 versions of InstallShield installed. I think that the problem is with my operating system or my InstallShield installations. Anyone know the solution?

Window 95 is not supported for this version and you are at the ragged edge as far as processor speed.
This is the beginning of the installation instructions that are on the download page:
    "System Requirements
The JavaTM 2 SDK is supported on Microsoft Windows 98 (1st or 2nd edition), Windows NT 4.0 with with Service Pack 5 or later, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2 or later, running on Intel hardware. In non-English locales, the only edition of Microsoft Windows 2000 tested with this release is the Professional edition.
Note -- Trying to install the Java 2 SDK on a non-supported version of Microsoft Windows or on a machine that doesn't have a sufficiently up-to-date Service Pack will cause the installer to generate this warning: "We recommend that you do not install this Java(TM) Platform for the following reasons: This Java(TM) Platform does not support the operating system or operating-system service pack on this machine."
A Pentium 166MHz or faster processor with at least 32 megabytes of physical RAM is required to run graphically based applications. Forty-eight megabytes of RAM is recommended for applets running within a browser using the Java Plug-in product. Running with less memory may cause disk swapping which has a severe effect on performance. Very large programs may require more RAM for adequate performance.
You should have 120 megabytes of free disk space before attempting to install the Java 2 SDK software."

  • DDE Server Window: QuicktimePlayer.exe - Application Error

    Good evening,
I bought an Iphone 4. BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have to install Itunes and Quicktime. Unfortunately, after the complete installation I have this error message... DDE Server Window: QuicktimePlayer.exe - Application Error
I tried to uninstall everything, no result. I tried to change session, the 2 other administrators have the same error message. I cannot run any Apple application (Quicktime, Itunes, Safary).
My computer technician told me that is is a Windows problem and I have to reformat and start everything over.... How can I avoid this??? Please help.

Strange. You see DDE errors associated with Safari every now and then (when opening email links), but it's very odd to see them feature as part of start-up errors for iTunes, Safari and QuickTime.
Let's try a few measures relating to fixing Windows operating system problems that don't involve a complete windows reinstall.
First, check to see that your Microsoft .NET framework is up-to-date and functioning properly, as per:
[iTunes for Windows: "iTunes was not installed properly. Please reinstall iTunes" message|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3074]
Does that help with the start-up errors?
If not, perhaps try an sfc /scannow as per:
    http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html
    Does that help at all?

How to merge partitions in Windows Server 2008 quickly and effectively?

    Hi,
In Windows systems we can only extend a partition to unallocated space behind it - so if we have 2 consistent partitions, we can only delete the second one and extend the first one.
If the 2 partitions are on 2 different disks, you can also create a spanned volume - you will still need to delete the second partition and convert both disks to dynamic disk to create the spanned volume.
