  • How to repair/open damaged .nef files on mac?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place...
I am using my sisters Apple refurb Mac Air, OSX 10.8.4
    Camera is a Nikon D3100
There are around 3000 pictures. Basically I made the mistake of using a crappy card reader to open my files on her computer. A zeikos one. Periodically, it would eject itself, and eventually it corrupted all 3000, some jpg pics included. I ran applexsoft SD Card Recovery and managed to recover all 3000 pictures after a couple of tries. I could see the pictures on the preview, with the watermark, and they went into the recovered file folder. I checked the file sizes and most average between 10-15 mb. Now they wont open in preview or iPhoto, saying it is unrecognizable or damaged, and does the same for the .jpgs. I have opened .nef pictures on her computer before. It's been a while since I have had a mac so I am a little fuzzy on what is supported or not. What I am wondering is:
If the preview on the recovery tool shows the pictures, is it likely that these files are salvageable?
How can I view them and what program is best?
Most of these pictures are not valuable, I only need a select number, so if I can't get all of them, would it be possible to select only the ones that I need with a particular program?
If they are indeed damaged, how can I repair them?
I've downloaded something called Stellar Mac Photo Recovery, but I don't want to run anything until I get some info...
I can't keep too much data on here, so the smallest effective program would be best...
To clarify, the pictures are currently on the laptop, not the SD card. Though they're still technically on the SD card, I am asking for help to repair the files on the computer.
Please help... I wish I could have backed these up periodically, and usually I download the most important pictures to my iPad and upload them to an img host, but I lost my iPad card reader. I'd really appreciate any help! Thank you (:

Only if you export them in the correct format.
If you just save them they will be in the Apple format which will not work on the PC.

  • How to repair a damaged jpg file in iphoto Library

I hace some damaged jpegs in my iphoto Library which i want to repair. I've used stellar software but no results.
does anyone know a really good tool to repair jpegs?

You 're wright, i didn't provide you details how the matter occurred and what kind of damage there is.
So i give you the link of another discussion i've opened to look at.
    Mac Pro 3.1 os 10.8.5
iphoto 11 problem with showing up some photos
In your other post, you indicated that
"The whole matter occurred after disk defragmentation with Tech Tools pro 7 or Drive Genius 3, I don't remember which of them i used to the disk that iLibrary exists … Also disk warrior reports that "Detected that the resource header is damaged and cannot be repaired!" "
The jpeg repair tool you were using can sometimes recover a photo file if several pixels are missing. Typically the photo is recovered with some black portions corresponding to those missing pixels, probably not optimal but better than nothing.
Unfortunately, your mention of "defragmentation" in connection with the corrupted files is alarming to me. Files on a computer are not stored in one single place, they are typically stored in pieces all over the physical disk. The file catalog provides a map that the computer uses to put these pieces back together when you, say, view a photo. Defragmentation is almost never required for a modern Mac, and if one exercises a defragmentation tool on a system that has a few small directory or catalog problems (caused maybe by a computer freeze or a forced restart), those can become magnified as all the myriad file pieces are moved around ("defragmentation" tries to unify as many of those pieces as possible by physically moving them around on the disk). Which is why making an archive backup is always necessary before defragmentation -- but disk defragmentation is not needed anymore with modern operating systems, I wonder why you would use such a tool as the benefits are small or nonexistent but the potential to greatly magnify a small issue into a big problem is significant.
Well, that's history now, but you can perhaps try a few of the other jpeg fixing tools that are commercially available. Also, try opening the problem jpegs with some other programs, such as Adobe Photoshop or other software. I fear that your corrupted jpegs are really a symptom of more systemic directory or disk problems. I would (a) back up everything securely [two backups is extra safe], and then (b) run your Apple hardware test suite to test your hardware as a failing hard disk and/or memory can lead to such unfixable file corruption, and if (b) shows everything is ok, then (c) run Disk Warrior to try to detect and repair whatever directory corruption exists. The jpegs may not be fixable, they may be missing essential file components, sort of like losing the first 20 pages and last 20 pages of a 200 page novel plus getting the chapters out of order and losing the chapter numbers, you might never be able to figure out the story in the novel if those pages cannot be found and the right chapter order cannot be determined.

Its screen is broken as it was fall doun from my hand.
I need to repair its screen. I live at Pohang-South Korea.
    Kindly help me.

    Hi @imobl,
You sound like an Apple support guy who hasn't been able to answer my questions.
To respond to some of the points you made,
    - I did not ignore Ocean20's suggestion. If you has read my post, you would have known that I took my phone to the apple service centre where they tried this restore on THEIR machines. I am assuming that Apple guys know how not to block iTunes. So I actually do not understand your point about me trying the hosts file changes on my machine. Do you not believe that apple tested this issue with the correct settings?
    - you also give a flawed logic of why the issue is a hardware issue. You mentioned that If I thought that the issue was with the software, i should try a restore and getting it to work. The problem is that my error (23), and many others comes up when the restore fails. And you would be astonished to know that not all errors are hardware errors. Sometimes even software errors prevent restores. Funnily enough Apple itself mention that 'in rare cases, error 23 could be hardware related'.
    - all Apple has done so far is replicate the issue. I don not know how anyone can conclude that the issue is a hardware issue.
And by the way, I am not certain that this is a software bug. Again if you read my Posts, you will notice I only want a confirmation,/proof that the issue is hardware related as they mention..
Please refrain do. Responding if there is nothing to add.

Your best option would be to sell yours and buy a used, unscratched model. A case replacement by apple is going to cost a small fortune.

  • Repairing a damaged G5 Power Mac

Just yesterday I attempted to boot up my Power Mac, but recieved no startup "chime" and no apple emblem on my monitor. In fact, the computer didn't seem to boot at all. The power supply seemed to be working fine; everything looked like it was running normally inside the machine. Firguring it might be an issue with the motherboard, I scouted on some forums and figured out that if you open the computer case and press onto the bottom bank of RAM near the heat sink, you can get the thing to boot. It worked perfectly, but I know this is merely a short-term solution to the larger problem. How would I go about repairing this? I figure it's either an issue with the ram itself or with the motherboard, but have no way of telling because I can't even get the heat sink out.
In short, can anyone tell me A) How to disassemble the Power Mac and
                                             B) how to repair the damage on either the RAM or the motherboard.

No, the RAM was not loose, otherwise the Mac would boot every time without problems. I believe there is damage to the mother board where the RAM is. When you apply pressure to the area these things tend to right themselves. Every time I want the machine to boot at all I am forced to push on the bottom RAM slot.

  • How to repair damaged DBX file of outlook express?

I am currently having 4 GB data available in inbox.dbx. But there is one problem with that. I am not able to see my mails as header corrupt the dbx files. This is very annoying. I tried many things to solve the problem from my side but it was not helpful
to me. So I am leaving the question over here so that I can get the response from you people that what should I do to repair the damaged DBX file of outlook express. Thank you so much in advance for reading and replying to this thread.

The manual solution starts with finding or locating the corrupted DBX file(s). You need to start the Registry
Editor to find the location where Outlook Express stores its files. Follow the steps given below to know how to do this:
Press Win+R to open the Run window.
    Type regedit into
    it and press enter.
The Registry Editor window will be opened. In the left hand side pane, expand the folders in
    this manner:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Identities > XYZ > Software > Microsoft > Outlook
    Express > 5.0
Now in the right hand side pane, locate the Store Root settings from the list and double-click
    it.
The path will be shown where Outlook Express stores its files. Copy the full path from there.
Once you have copied the path, you need to move the mailbox file(s). Follow the steps given below to know
    how to do this:
First of all close the Outlook Express program if it is opened.
Now paste the path (copied earlier) on your Windows directory and press enter.
You can copy or move all the files from this location to a new location. After that, delete all the files from the
original location if you have copied them.
In the third step, you need to import the DBX file(s) into Outlook Express. It would be easy for Outlook
Express to import the file(s) without causing any trouble. Follow the steps given below to know how to do this:
Start Outlook Express on your system.
Click on File menu > Import.
    The Outlook Express Import window
will be opened. Select the Outlook Express version in the list from which you want to import the emails. If you are unsure with that, you can select Outlook Express 6. Click on Next.
Now click on Browse to select the directory where the files are saved. This is the very same
directory in which you have moved the files from original location earlier. Click on Next.
Select the items you want to import. For example: you can import All folders or the Selected
    folders. Click on Next.
Now start your Outlook Express and check your mailbox folders again.

  • How to Repair Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2013 once the update rollup or service pack is installed?

    Hello,
I am going through the following Technet article:
Repair Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2013 (

The repair option asks for the original CRM DVD media location. The problem is that how the repair procedure knows about the service packs or update rollup files location?
My concern is that the repair procedure replaced the update DLLs (or other files installed by CRM service pack installer) by the RTM files in the original setup DVD.
Is there any special consideration for repairing Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2013 once the Service Pack or Update Rollup is installed?

  • How to repair projects that get a "TickTime.cpp-290" error after opening a specific project.

This is a guide to repair projects that get a "TickTime.cpp-290" error after opening a specific project.
    Prerequisites:
Project repair tool (download link below)
    WinRAR or any file archiver
    Damaged project file
As an example, let's say the name of my damaged project is 'test.prproj'
    Steps:
    1. Download the project repair tool here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3fyja0ws7l5gkbt/pp-repair-0.1.35.zip?dl=0
    2. Rename your project file extension from 'test.prproj' to 'test.zip' (a warning appears saying the file might become unusable. Do not be concerned about the warning. Click OK and move to the next step.)
    3. Extract the contents of 'test.zip' to a location on your computer. (Right click on the file and select ‘Extract files’ > Choose a location > Click OK).
    4. Go to the extracted location. Note the file 'test' has no extension.
    5. Rename the file, 'test.prproj'.
    6. Launch the project repair tool, and then select the file 'test.prproj' (the one that we renamed in the last step).
    7. Deselect all the check-boxes in the project repair tool.
    8. Click the Repair button.
    9. After a few seconds you see a message saying 'Success'.
    10. Open the repaired file in Premiere Pro and then reset the workspace. Choose Window > Workspace > Reset Current Workspace.
    11. Click the Save button to reduce the project size.
    12. Your project is now repaired.
NOTE: If a file containing letters such as ã, å, ê, í, ú don’t repair, rename the file to something that doesn't contain these letters.

    Hi Rameez,
first of all thanks a bunch for the tool - it saved our neck this morning on a tight deadline.
One minor note: I did get a message that the (already uncompressed + renamed) file is not uncompressed until I ran the tool as Administrator so you might want to add that to the FAQ entry...
Other than that I'm very much interested in what triggers this bug so we can potentially prevent it.
    Background:
Specs: Windows 8.1, German locale (ie comma is decimal symbol), Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 installed in English
My colleague who ran into the TickTime.cpp-290 error remembers having created a new workspace while working on the project. That seems to have triggered the issue as we haven't had any trouble on other projects yet. It also got saved into the project file:
    <MZ.Project.WorkspaceName>Bearbeitung</MZ.Project.WorkspaceName>
Any autosaves after he added the workspace were corrupted as well while the ones dating back to earlier still open fine.
I'd like to mention that Premiere did import previous (German language) workspaces - dating back until CS5. Not sure if that comes into play.
On the other hand, the debug log looks like there only is an issue with the decimal symbol:
    10:08:06: Input: C:/temp/trouble/uncompressed/final.prproj
    10:08:06: Path: C:/temp/trouble/uncompressed Basename: final Extension:prproj
    10:08:06: 19852-> from: <PlaybackSpeed>0,069148936170212769</PlaybackSpeed>
    10:08:06: 19852-> to:   <PlaybackSpeed>0.069148936170212769</PlaybackSpeed>
    10:08:06: 23970-> from: <PlaybackSpeed>0,0062741915889604422</PlaybackSpeed>
    10:08:06: 23970-> to:   <PlaybackSpeed>0.0062741915889604422</PlaybackSpeed>
I really need to make sure that this is no general problem with German locales as we have multiple users on this kind of config and can't afford projects breaking.
Or do we "just" need to watch out to get rid of the old workspaces? I'm a little puzzled to be honest.
Maybe it helps to mention that we are on CC Enterprise
    Best regards,
    Mike

  • Damaged Project : "Encapsulate or Repair" ?

Yesterday I received the dreaded 'damaged project' error message that I've read so much about...
Luckily I was able to restore the project using an earlier version (in song backups). I did attempt to repair the project prior to this using the "repair" option (which clearly doesn't work - it just duplicated all my tracks & messed up all my sample references). I presume the "encapsulate" option is just a report summary, but correct me if I'm wrong - has anyone tried this option or had any success with the "repair" option, or is it simply quicker (& better) to rebuild a project from an earlier version?

What causes a project to become damaged? It seems unique to Logic 8 (I've not experienced this with earlier versions of Logic or any other sequencer)... Time is money on any commercial session, so I'm keen to avoid it in the future.
