How to repair a disc with fsck?

My iMac from 2008 (running Mountain Lion) hung yesterday and i've been unable to boot after that. I had a usb key with Lion on it and booted into it and run the verify disk and repair disc permissions through the disc utility, none of them reported any problems but i still can't boot. I booted into the Lion usb key again and tried to create a backup but that crashed about half way in and said something about an input/output error (it was very generic and didn't say anything about what actually had happened).
Now i'm starting to run out of ideas but i thought i'd try to run fsck.
So i'm running fsck_hfs -fy and i'm getting this output:

Now how do I actually repair it? I thought fsck_hfs would do that? The NO WRITE and read-only hints at that it's well, read-only but then how do i enable read-write?
Any tips?

Yes, but I thought I'd get more options by running it from the command line. Also i prefer running things from the command line whenever I can.
I was booted from a usb stick.
Yes, I'm sure. I double checked in disc utility .
I did manage to boot into OS X on the harddrive yesterday after running fsck a few times in single-user mode but it crashed and now it doesn't show up in the boot menu again.

To use recovery disc is very simply.
Just do the follow:
- Start your notebook and press F12
- When the boot menu is shown put recovery media into optical disc drive
- Choose CD/DVD drive on the list and press ENTER
- Follow the menu on the screen
- There is nothing you can choose or set. Just follow menu steps and confirm with OK
After recovery image installation leave notebook to complete installation.
Please note: recovery procedure will erase whole HDD and all saved data will be deleted. So, before you start installation back up all your important data.

How to repair backup disk with disk utility

My Time Capsule is suddenly telling me
"The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk."
It then goes on to say use Disk Utility to repair it, but how do I do that?
When I start up Disk Utility I cannot see the backup disk anywhere.

I have a MacBook and created a slideshow on IPhoto. I made copies (discs) of the slideshow and they did not come out well...how can I create discs with the same quality as the original?

I created an IPhoto slideshow.... the quality was wonderful on my MacBook and through my projector. I was told to export to my desktop and create copies via IDVD. I did that and the copies are terrible quality. 1. How to I make a copy to look exactly like the original and 2. I do I save as a backup should my Mac crash? Please.... this took a long time to create and I really need help. Thanks!

Trying to repair files recovered with Photorec

Does anyone know how to repair files recovered with photorec. I was able to recover the files after deleting them but now I have an issue of having to link the audio back with the video. Any suggestions

Media is very finicky, and if it has been deleted and recovered, you'd be hard pressed to get it to work properly again.
My suggestion is to recapture from the master tapes, or reimport from the card backups if tapeless.
Please tell me you have the masters...because if you are trying Herculean efforts to recover data, I have the sneaking suspicion that you don't have them.

Is the 10.5.8 Drive also PPC?
Try Verify Disk first if so.
You might be better of trying this...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
/sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

I tried to sync and upload the iOS 5.0 version to my iphone 4 all was well it was processing then it just stopped and Now my actual I phone is frozen. I have turned it off. I have rebooted it several times the I phone itself shows a CD with a music not over it and under it in small letters iTunes with an arrow pointing up wards and a picture of the small end cable on the screen . it will not move change unlock it is frozen into that position.. how do i get the useage of my phone back this is rather daunting wehn all i was trying to do was up load the most recent version upgrade of iOS.. THe phone is NOT jail broken.. all i want to do is have it return back to how it was before i started the updae version process obviously it did not take and now it is locked into plave the screen will not change.. after reboots and shut down when i turn it back on the same screeen appears the cd disc with the music note over it and the arrow pointing upwards and a picture of the small end of the charge cord that fits into the actual compute.. How to repair corrupted xp files with the Toshiba recovery dvd pkg

Hello all, my Satellite a105-s4054 has some corrupted xp os files. Please advise on how to repair only these files using the recovery dvd pks included with my sytem. I would rather not have to do a complete format and install. And it is now obvious which of the individual files listed should be replaced to repair the corrupted files.
Is there way to just replace the corrupted files?

You cannot burn your high resolution video that you can view on your computer to an AVCHD on DVD disc
that will replay through a regular DVD player. But players are marketed under a variety of names with
different support opportunities. One manufacturer may call its product MultiMedia Player, media player, Blu-ray player,
etc.The bottom line is the specifications for each of the players that are candidates for the playback of
the AVCHD format on DVD disc or the format of interest.
If you upload your HD (1920 x 1080) video to YouTube, YouTube converts the video to flash format, but it goes up as the HD video.
But, beware. Look at the YouTube viewing setting when your uploaded video is playing back. The YouTube default is not
HD. It might be 360p, 480p. If you have a 1080p video, then before the YouTube playback, you should be looking
at the video with the YouTube 1080p HD setting for best viewing. That is a YouTube matter.
Best results depend on you
a. setting up the Premiere Elements project preset to match the properties of the source media. That means, if
you have 1080p source, you (manually) or the project (automatically) set the project preset at
NTSC
DSLR
1080p
DSLR [email protected]
or the PAL counterpart, depending on your region need.
b. if you upload your video to YouTube using the Premiere Elements feature, there is a HD preset, but you cannot
customize it.....if you need customization, then you can export your Timeline to a file...in this example

with Presets = MP4 H.264 1920 x 1080p30 or PAL counterpart
and then customize the preset under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of that preset. In increase quality, you might look to increase
the Bitrate under Advanced Button/Video Tab settings - without compromising the file size.
Then you would upload that file to YouTube at the YouTube web site.
All of the above are factors that need looking into in order to determine the why for what you wrote

Try cleaning the lens and see if that will restore functionality to the DVD drive. Use a DVD lens cleaning disk, if you have a can of compressed air, shoot some into the slot or wrap a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth) around a business card and insert it gently inside the slot.
If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and get a free diagnosis from them.

How to create a Contact Sheet with Adobe Photoshop CS5 from a disc with images in different folders

I got a disc with images files (mainly ai and psd files) in different folders and subfolders, how can I create a contact sheet including all the image files in different folders. (It seems that Adobe Bridge can only create a contact sheet by clicking the image files directly but not a folder including the images files)

Use the optional Contact Sheet II plugin which is found in Adobe's Downloads:
1) search for contact sheet in PS CS5 help
2) choose the first result and read carefully about the Photoshop Optional Plug-In Picture Packager
3) follow the instructions to download the zip file and note the location that you download it to.
4) follow the instructions to install the files.
I'm not sure how PS CS5 will handle ai vector image files or if you have to batch convert them to raster images first before using Contact Sheet II. Contact Sheet II allows you to choose a folder and Include All SubFolders as an option so you could create a Contact Sheet folder and copy all of your desired folders into that folder which will become subfolders of the main folder you choose for your contact sheet.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Lion uses Recovery to reinstall OS X. Press Command and R keys when your Mac starts, open Disk Utility, erase the drive and reinstall Lion. The other Mac has probably got its hard disk damaged, so take the Mac to an Apple Store
