How to repair a disk without installation CD

Hey everyone,
My macbook has been acting up and has been spitting out CDs/DVDs lately... I checked my disk and it said:
This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with anpther disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk.
Only there's one problem... I don't know where my installation CD is. I also have Snow Leopard if that helps.
Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

Does single user mode work?  (cmd-s at startup)
If it will boot that far, try:  fsck -fy
You really need that installation CD... just in case you need to reinstall. : )

I don't have the installation disk.  Is there a way to repair the disk without the installation disk?  I'm running mac os X 10.6.4.
Also, I'm very new to mac OS so please keep any answers/help simple for me.  Thanks.

If you have a TM backup on an external drive, restart the computer and hold down the option key. You will get a selection of drives. The TM drive has a recovery drive also. I think it will be listed as Mac OSX. Select it and try booting from it. Your internal drive might be bad and not allowing you to start from that recovery drive.

  • How to clear macbook pro without installation disc

Recently purchased new Macbook.  I now need to delete all content on old Macbook Pro, before selling for parts.  I cannot find the original installation disc.  How do I reset to manufacturers settings and delete all personal content?
    OS X 10.6.8

You could connect the old MBP to the new one in target disk mode. That will mount the old drive on the desktop of the new computer. You can then erase the drive using Disk Utility. Applications / Utilities / Disk Utility.
TDM requires the computers to be connected. So you will need an appropriate cable and even an adapter. Which ones will depend on the ports on the computers. The following web page gives the basic info. You can google for other pages for more instructions.
OS X Mavericks: Transfer files between two computers using target disk mode
I must point out that you can buy a copy of OS 10.6 DVD for $20. Which might be less than the cost of the cables, and who ever buys your Mac would appreciate the OS dvd.

    hello all,
i set up an 7.20 SAP Installation Server with PL4. It worked fine last month, no changes were made, but now, if i start NWSapSetupAdmin.exe nothing happens. What possibilities do i have to repair the server or to see which part causes trouble?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
Check log file 'NwSapSetupAdmin.log' in folder C:\Program Files\SAP\SapSetup\LOGs. If log file is not created, check Windows Event Viewer (System events).
    Hope that helps.

  • How to repair a DTP without continuing procrss chain

    Hi Experts,
A DTP failed  within a procrss chain. The subsequent steps of chain are already processed, because it runs
in case of failure and success of DTP. Now I would like to repair DTP without triggering processed steps again.
    Please help.
    Regards & Thanks in Advance
    Joe

as of the moment the dtp with the same request id gets green the process chain will continue... even if you execute again from the workbench, without deleting from the cube, it will. you'll get a pop up asking to delete or repair the last failed request; if you choose repair, it will reprocess the same request and the process chain will continue, although you didn't even open the process chain

  • How to repair hard disk on lion

I opened disk utility and verified permissions.
Then i tried verifying the hard drive and it said it was corrupt and needed repair. i tried booting from external hard drive and then repairing but it said it could't unmount the disk.
i restarted from my macbook(not the external) with the shift key down and tried repairing from there. it said there was something wrong in the catalog and 287 should be 288..and the hard drive was corrupt..but i couldn't repair it from there.
    now what?
I started this whole thing because my computer was acting funny at start up..

I found this from looking in lion corrupted my hard disk and found this answer. It worked for me!!
I had a corrupt HD after installing lion. Repair disk said to boot from startup disk. I have no startup disk because OSX lion is a downloaded install...But wait...Apple in ther infinite wisdom created a boot disk partition on your HD. Do this:
    1) Reboot the Computer and hold down the option key.
    2) Select the Boot drive as your start-up disk. The system will boot and give you a menu of options.
    3) Run Disk utility.
    4) Repair disk. (My corrupted drive was repaired)
    5) reboot.
Voila..All is well with the world. Hope this helps.

  • How to upgrade system disk without reinstalling?

Here's what I want to do: Buy a nice large new HD, copy my current system disk onto the new one, and then use the new one instead. I don't want to reinstall -- just do an image copy. However, I want the new disk to be larger. What is the most foolproof way of doing this?
Can I boot off a CD, mount the system disk read-only, use disk copy to copy the system disk over to the new disk (even though the new disk is larger)?
I'm sure the answer to this question is on this forum somewhere, but I looked and could not find it.
    Thanks much for suggestions.
    dm

There's a couple of ways to do this. Assuming you want to add the HD to an internal slot, hook it up, following the instructions in your Setting up Manual (find it at http://search.info.apple.com/?search=Go&lr=lang_en&kword=&type=kmanual&newstype= &q=g5%20setting%20up), launch Disk Utility, select the HD, erase and format it for Mac OS Extended, selecting Options->zero out data, and quit Disk Utility. Once the HD's erased and formatted, do one of these:
    1. Launch Disk Utility, click on the restore tab, drag the current disk into the source window, the new HD into the destination window, and click Restore. This requires that the new HD is physically larger than the old HD.
    2. Use Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper!, etc. and make a bootable clone/backup of the current HD onto the new HD. This requires that the new HD is larger than the Used size of the old HD.

  • How to rebuild OS, without installation disk(s)?

I recently purchased a Mac Pro.  It did not come with a restore installation disk.  If I needed to rebuild my OS, how do I do it without installation disks?

Restart with the Option key held down and use the preloaded recovery partition. If that becomes unavailable, the computer will download a new one from Apple's servers.

  • Repair Disk without CD (Snow Leopard)?

    Hi everyone!
My good ol' macbook has been running a bit slow lately so I went to Disk Utility and selected to verify the disk.  I was then informed that it was corrupt and I need to repair the disk, but I need my OSX installation to do it since I've been traveling and no longer have access.
    So, I have several questions:
    1.  Is there a way to repair the disk without the CD or do I just need to go buy another one?
    2.  How do I actually go about repairing the disk when I get the CD (if I absolutely need one)?
    3.  Do I need to be sure that I have everything backed up on my external harddrive before I do this?  I have time machine going frequently already, but I just want to be sure if the time machine back up is enough or if I have to do a manual copy & paste backup.
Also, I'm running OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).  My macbook is a 2007 model (still kicking! Just when I think of getting another one she proves me wrong) and I don't think I can go up to Lion... or at least not Mountain Lion for sure.
    Thanks!

    1. Yes, there is. Restart the computer with the Shift key held down to quietly run a disk repair utility.
    2. Restart from the CD and open the Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    3. Create a bootable clone on a second external drive. The Time Machine backup won't itself help if the internal drive gets erased and there isn't a second bootable system available.
