My phone keeps saying it has bout 13 security holes and maybe some viruses

Do you have a security app like one of the following that could be generating that message?

If not, that could be some advertising from a website that you should not trust, or a bad app you installed. Probably a good idea to install one of the security apps (but probably only one to avoid bogging down with overlapping functionality).

WRT55AG - Denial Of Service / security hole, and other issues

Im using a V2 of the WRT55AG using 1.79 firmware.
I suffered many perplexing issues when connected directly to my cable modem.
1 It would lock up and no data transversed it
2 Its web interface would no longer exist
3 Some types of data would be blocked
4 It would stop doing DHCP
5 Ping times to it from the LAN side would increase in 1 minute intervals for hours or until power cycled
6 Data rates would slow randomly.
These problems would occur separately and in combinations. They would occur randomly but some issues would occur daily.
Left alone the router would 100% lock up in a matter of days. This occurred 100% of the time.
Rebooting was a daily and sometimes hourly ritual.
After reading in many forums of the known issues with this router I purchased a BEFSR41 as replacement.
ALL of my problem were gone. This of course isolated the issues I was having to the WRT55AG.
I then hooked up the WRT55AG _after_ the BEFSR41.
The problems with the WRT55AG disappeared. Completely. It suddenly worked for weeks perfectly.
I then tried setting the BEFSR41's DMZ to the IP of the WRT55AG exposing the WRT55AG to the net directly.
The issues returned.
So the WRT55AG is crashing and suffering from various problems because of some hostile internet packets. Effectively it suffers major security issues and a denial of service from something that is present from the internet. I did not isolate what ports+packets were causing the DOS condition.
Im sure the WRT55AG has some code that is vulnerable to attack because it crashes when exposed to the net. This is a serious issue.
This is a sad state of affairs. I paid good money for the router. Its too late to get my money back. I would settle for a 802.11A WAP.
I want a *FIX* for the obvious security hole that could expose anyone on the LAN side of the wrt55AG router to attack if the router/firewall is compromised. I want my WRT55AG to work as intended or at least as well as the BEFSR41 I own.
I also feel if the source code was still open, then these problems would not exist. At the very least, some other 3rd party version of firmware would be available that would work in the router and any issue would get prompt attention and a quick solution from a open source team. The decision by Linksys to move away from open source firmware will erode the quality of the brand by making products less reliable.
WHEN will a new version of the firmware be available for the WRT55AG ?
If not how do I go about returning a well documented defectively engineered product for a product that works ?

I would like to see a update to fix the various issues with this router. When will this be available ?

If this product is considered End Of Life, I would like to get confirmation that no future firmware update will occur.
As this product was defective out of the box and has never been fixed, I would like a replacement product please. My serial number is # MDJ106802225

Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.

How to extend secure network and guest network.

Sorry if this has been covered but I couldn't find it.
I have an Airport Extreme running the 7.6.3 firmware. Once Comcast gets their act together it will be running off a static IP. I want to wirelessly extend my guest WiFi and my secure WiFi. What do I need to get this done? Do I need to get an Express for each network? Or can another Extreme repeat both networks? Eventually I hope we will have Cat5 running to the repeater's location but that could be a long way off.

I cannot get the web page to open when I do a search on the SMC8014, but it appears that this is a modem/router or gateway type of device.....which will not allow the Guest Network feature to be enabled on the AirPort Extreme.
I did find this, which confirms that the SMC is a modem/router or gateway....not what you want.

The solution is to find out from SMC or your Internet Service Provider whether or not the 8014 can be configured to operate in "Bridge Mode".....which would then allow you to configure the AirPort Extreme to operate as the main router on the network. This would allow the Guest Network option on the AirPort Extreme to be enabled correctly.
Or better yet.....ask your ISP for a simple modem.......not a modem/router or gateway type of device.
So assuming this is all compatable (or I get compatable equipment), I can extend both networks with 1 express or 1 extreme?

How to repair corrupt drive [and transfer to ssd]

I have an early 2009 tower. Doing maintenance, I've discovered that my Macintosh HD is corrupt (disk uitility verify tool). I am instructed to hit "repair disk," but that is not possible (greyed out). What do I do to recover my disk? I've begun backups already.
I want to fix this as painlessly as possible (I have myriad programs installed that I don't want to install again:CS5, Maya, Final Cut Pro, etc). Also, I just ordered a 120gb ssd that I want to put my startup files and applications on [to be installed in optical bay 2].
Finally, in adition to the terabyte drive the Macintosh Hd resides on (the corrupt startup disk), there is a terabyte backup drive in bay two if that helps. (I am backing up my most vital files on that as well as an external).
Main Point: My goal is to transistion to the ssd as smoothly as possible even though my main HD is corrupted.

If your main Hard Drive is corrupt, you should try to repair it, as described above.
But it is not smart to use it as the basis for your new Boot Drive. If there are ANY problems, the first recommendation will be, "re-install Mac OS X and all your Applications."
When I got my SSD, the outside of the box said, " Cloning Utilities included." Inside the box, the readme said, "NO Cloning Utilities included, and not only that, if you clone onto it, we tear up your warranty." So caution is urged concerning cloning. That also suggests a new Install would be better.

Can you confirm a security hole in file sharing?

I have found a very annoying security hole, and I wonder if it is unique to my setup. I have my mini set up with file sharing turned on. It has 5 accounts, one administrator, rest ordinary users. My login for the administrative user on my laptop is the same as on the mini. I have not turned on "Back to my Mac."
From my laptop I navigate to the mini using either (a) the network panel in finder, (b) the local IP (afp://192.168.0.xxx), or the global IP (afp://64.xxx.xxx.xxx). (My router is set up to forward the appropriate ports to the mini's local IP). I mount the administrative user's home directory under apple file sharing. Now I have full access to these files. I DO NOT SAVE THE PASSWORD IN KEYCHAIN. All this is as it should be.
Now I eject the administrator disk.
From now on (until I reboot my laptop), I can mount that same disk without a password!
Can someone confirm?

Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
      left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
        the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
      the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
            because it is three times faster than wireless.

Task: Trying to modify a GPO so that specific users who logon to Remote Desktop Servers will have a lower Internet security level for Internet Explorer.
We have two Windows Server 2008 Domain Controllers, when I access the GPO using the Group Policy Management Console and Editor on either of the two Domain Controllers, then navigate to User Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Internet Explorer
Maintenance > Security > Security Zones and Content Ratings, the available "Modify Settings" buttons are both disabled.
I've read through several forum posts relating to this and the closest solution mentioned was to turn off IE ESC for Administrators on both Domain Controllers. I've done this and it nothing has changed as a result. Is there a way enable the "Modify Settings"
buttons, or is there another way to achieve the task mentioned at the top of this post?
