The hinge section of my smart cover has separated from the leather portion. Anyone know of an easy home repair? Nothing damaged and just separated...

just tried shoe goo with binder clips to hold it while drying. looks like it'll work and if it doesn't I'll give the super glue a try. (regular electrical or black duct tapes in small pieces won't hold at all)

I bought a new iPad recently with a Smart Cover. I find the Smart Cover very good for typing, at the low angle. The angle is very nice, it feels very comfortable and it allows fast typing. But then what is called the FaceTime/Video angle seems way too steep for me, like 80 degrees. I need to be like 3 meters away, at least, to watch a movie correctly or to be captured by the FaceTime camera. I'm rather tall but still, I don't really get it. I thought for the first couple of days that I was folding the cover in a wrong way but it seems not.
Am I the only one to experience this issue? Or is there another way of folding the cover to get a correct angle? I haven't tried another Smart Cover but I would doubt that mine is faulty. But if it is how the Smart Cover is designed, I'm surprised that Apple went with that, I mean, I can't see the use of this angle, if you need to be so far away from the iPad. I actually bought one (and the Smart Cover) to use it as a support for books/tutorials when I'm coding on my Mac, and I'm finding that I can't find a place for the iPad with the cover on my desk because it ends up to be too steep anywhere I place it...

My experience is the same as yours (and everyone else's, I suppose.)
Other than the various ways you can fold it, Smart Cover is not adjustable.
This link shows what Smart Cover can do.
You have already found the best workaround for Smart Cover: reposition yourself, the iPad, or both so the camera view shows what you want in the picture.
You decide the best location for your iPad while you capture video. Because iPad connects wirelessly, you need not worry about dangling cables.

You need to go into your settings>general then turn on the iPad Cover Lock / Unlock.

How do I turn off the time? The lock screen appears each time I open the smart cover.

No matter which app I'm in, when I open the smart cover, the lock screen with the time shows. This is on an iPad Air
On my iPad Mini, it goes right to the app and skips the lock screen.
It's sure nicer not to be reminded what time it is in the middle of the night--and not have the brighter lock screen flashed!

Appreciate the reply. The settings are identical, so that's not it! I do not use the pass code lock, in any event. The behavior I'm describing is, in fact, turns out to be unrelated to the lock settings!
It depends upon whether an alert has occurred after the last time you closed the cover! In iOS 7, that will show the lock/unlock screen with the alert when you next open the cover. In iOS 6, more properly, it will show the alert over the screen you were last looking at--no lock screen at all.
On our iPad Mini, iOS 6, we do not use the calendar, so no alerts, and we never see the lock screen or its glaring time (count me among those who would rather not know it's 3am when I decide to read in the middle of the night!) On the Air, we return to where we left off if there hasn't been an alert--but to the lock screen if there has been one!
Truly wish that Apple would give us options as to displaying the time or not--on the lock screen and on the status bar!

Probably not because the iPhone warranty is NOT international, but is country specific, so if you purchased it in the US, then it will have to go back to the US for repair.
You can try and take it into a store in Hong Kong and see if they will help you, but if it is a US phone, then they have every right to refuse due to warranty cover and they also have different models if your phone needs replacing and they won't be able to give you the same model if the phone came to from the US and this is why warranty cover for the iPhone is country specific and NOT international.
You can try, but you might be out of luck and if so, then there is nothing you can do except send the phone to any relatives that you have living in the US and see if they will take it to an Apple store in the US to get it repaired for you. Otherwise you'll have to get it repaired on your next trip to the US.
This is exactly why you should have thought very long and hard before purchasing a US iPhone and having exactly this situation where you can get nothing done about repairing the phone due to country specific warranty.
The only other thing that you can do of course, is to buy a new iPhone from Hong Kong and then you will have no problem with warranty cover.

Accidental damage isn't covered by the warranty (unless you are in the US and have AppleCare+ which I think covers 2 cases of damage for an excess). I don't know what country that you are in, but in the US the price for repair (i.e. replacement) for the iPad 3 is (from here) $299, and here in the UK (from here) £256.44 . Are you need to an Apple store that you could go into ?

I have scratch marks from the smart cover(polyurethane)

I got this APPLE iPad2 early Febuary 2012 & now it's April. I took the smart cover off only twice. When I took it off today a piece of metal came off. Also the smart cover left a 2 marks on the side of the ipad & there's a dent on the magnetic strip on the smart cover. I do not have protection for this ipad. I, i think I had the same problem as you ... I had a big scratch on the bottom of my iPad .. So I called apple and they set me an appointment at the apple store... At the apple store They did persist but they finally changed my iPad and my smart cover for new one ... I hope it helped you ...

Depends on so many factors. What angle the iPad lands at. What surface it is dropped onto. The exact force applied to the screen on impact.
You could drop a dozen iPads onto a floor identically, and they'd all suffer different damage ranging from none to catastrophic.
Due to its design the Smart Cover is more effective at protecting the screen from being struck or scratched by objects hitting the screen.
If you are considering dropping your iPad from chest height (or any height for that matter), I'd recommend not doing so.

I love the Smart Cover. It fits the way I work and I love the instant on/off and the always available screen protection. I wouldn't use my iPad without it.
I got a Cover Buddy for the back, because I wanted the back to be less slippery when I'm using the iPad in the classroom, teaching. I picked this back cover because it's VERY lightweight, easy to get on or off and, protects the corners, has accurate cutouts for the ports, and (in the colors) has a rubberized surface:

I have a Built NY "hoody" slip on case with a hard internal shell that I use when I'm in the field and I can put the iPad with the Smart Cover and the Cover Buddy inside this . But for everyday use, the Smart Cover with the Cover Buddy is a terrific combination.

I'd take it into my local APple store and have them look at it. There may be something wrong inside your device.

The setting for iPad cover lock/unlock is in settings > general for iPad 2.
The iPad 2 and new iPad if both are using iOS 5.x or later the setting exist in settings > general.
So, if you worked at an apple store I think you should have known that the setting exist.
You are right, a hard reset (force restart) should only be used if iOS device is unresponsive or apps crashing...etc.
But, a simple restart helps as well.
