How to repartition mac mini lion server 10.7.5.

Purchased Mac Mini Server OS X 10.6 in 2010.  Upgraded to OS X 10.7.5 Server Lion.  This was my first time purchasing any kind of server.  On setup I split the hard drive in half and didn't realize my mistake until the first half of the hard drive (about 500 GB) became full over the years.  The second half (about 500 GB) is empty.  I currenty have a time capsule making back ups.
How can I combine both halfs togther to tap into the unused 500 GB?

Iwas able to fix this issue by going to the Audio Midi setup paneal and changing to 48K bit rate.Works fine now....

  • How do I connect a pc to mac mini lion server?

Have recently purchased a mac mini lion server and have had no problem connecting macs in a small office. However, I can't for the life of me figure out how to connect the 2 PC's in our office...
I am not an IT person - doing this with complete ignorance!
    Any help much appreciated.
PS. I have enabled SMB on server, but still can't see the server on PC networks

    Hi frustrated,
    (I know what you mean...)
In any case, let me attempt to help you...
First of all, on the Lion Server machine (let's say this machine is named MyLionServer), open the Server app, click on File Sharing, and add the mount point you want to share.  Let's call this mount point Drobo (just in case you have a Drobo attached to your Lion Server), but it could be any folder or disk attached to your Lion Server machine or on your local network.  Edit the mount point share (highlight Drobo and click on pencil icon), and add the users (click + button and add the usernames) you wish to access the Drobo share, and how they access it (read only, read/write, etc.).  Also make sure to check the "Share with Windows clients (SMB)" button.  Click done and wait for the Server app to restart all of the file sharing servers.
Now for the Windows PC (I have just tested this myself on a PC running Windows XP Pro):
Click the "start" buttom, click "My Network Places".  In the My Network Places panel, click on the "Add a network place" button.  This brings up the "Add Network Place Wizard", highlight the "Choose another network location" and click "Next>".  In the Internet or network address box, add the following: "\\MyLionServer\Drobo" (yes, I know the slashes are backwards from what you normally use in the MacOS - also, the name Windows wants may have only the first character capitalized, as in "\\Mylionserver\Drobo"), then click the "Next>" botton, then click the "Finish" button.  The first time you perform this for the first share on your Lion Server, a window opens and asks for a username and password.  Enter one of the usernames and passwords that you gave read/write access to in the File Sharing panel for the Drobo mount point on your Lion Server.  This brings up a \\Mylionserver\Drobo window on your PC that is mounted to your Lion Server's Drobo.
    Hope this helps,
    Switon
P.S. As I said, I tried this out on my own PC as I was typing the instructions into this reply, and the above works for me.  But I did it on Windows XP Pro on a 6 year old PC laptop, and all machines and Windows OSes are different, so it will probably require you to do something slightly different from what I described above unless you just happen to be using Windows XP also.  Good luck.

  • Just bought a Mac Mini lion server how do i make a lion backup?

Just bought a Mac Mini lion server how do i make a backup disk for lion?

I believe you will need a USB drive and can download and  install something called Lion Recovery Disk Assistant from below.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1433
Also read the article from below which I believe will encourage your desire to do the backup.

  • ICloud for pages app not working on network users having home folder on Mac Mini Lion server

Does anyone know how to make iCloud for pages work on network users having home folder on server, having home folder on local Client iCloud for Pages works fine but when home folder is on Server iCloud for Pages app does not work. My Clients are Running Mountain Lion 10.8.2, my Server is a Mac Mini Lion Server.

    Hi Tim,
No fix yet, my home folders reside on a thunderbolt external hard drive, I also tested having home folders on default server HD and no changes, I called Apple Support a while ago, they replicated the issue, it just does not work on network users, they did not say when will it be fix.
The version of Pages I am using is from the Apple Store.

  • LDAP and NFS mounts/setup OSX Lion iMac with Mac Mini Lion Server

    Hello all,
I have a local account on my iMac (Lion), and I also have a Mac Mini (Lion Server) and I want to use LDAP and NFS to mount the /Users directory, but am having trouble.
We have a comination of Linux (Ubuntu), Windows 7 and Macs on this network using LDAP and NFS, except the windows computers.
We have created users in workgroup management on the server, and we have it working on a few Macs already, but I wasnt there to see that process.
Is there a way to keep my local account separate, and still have NFS access to /Users on the server and LDAP for authentification?
    Thanks,
    -Matt

It would make a great server. Bonus over Apple TV for example is that you have access via both wired ethernet and wireless. Plus if you load tools from XBMC, Firecore and others you have a significant media server. Cost is right too.
Many people are doing this - google mac mini media server or other for more info.
Total downside to any windows based system - dealing with constant anti-virus, major security hassels, lack of true media integration and PITA to update, etc.
You should be aware that Lion Server is not ready for prime time - it stil has significant issues if you are migrating from SNL 10.6.8. If you buy an apple fresh Lion Server mac mini you should have no problems.
    You'll probably be pleased.

  • Can I use Mac Mini Lion server and Time Machine 2Tb together?

I have TM already and am looking to add a Mac Mini running O XS server soon. I use TM to back up my iMac and MacBook Pro laptop at present. My existing setup also includes a PC running windows which is backed up by an HP media smart server. I want to replace the PC with a Macmini running parallels and windows 7 to run my windows program's and want the TM to back this up also.  I would like the MM server to run my iTunes library to all Apple devices and need to access the files stored on the MM server from my iPad. Is this solution workable?

The only differences between the current Mac Mini Server
and the other Mini versions is that it has the quad core i7,
comes with dual drives, and has the "Server app" installed.
So, you could install Lion by itself as the server software
is now a seperate "app" in Lion as opposed to being an
    integral part of the OS.
BTW, what is the problem you are having?
I am running a 2011 Mini Server as a desktop and simply
just did not enable any of the server features when I first
set up and have not had any issues using it as a desktop.

  • Mac Mini/Lion Server/Airport Extreme Won't Sleep...?

I am at a loss with this one.  I have a Mid-2011 Mac Mini running OS X 10.7.4 Server (11E53) connected via gigabit ethernet to an Airport Extreme.  This computer will not sleep on its own using the system sleep timer.
If anyone has any ideas that may help, I'm all ears!  The Mac Mini should sleep as intended and the Airport Extreme router should wake it if network resources are requested via a Magic Packet.  This same Airport Extreme does wake the other computers on the network just fine when they are configured to Wake on Lan (womp 1 in the pmset -g output, below).
The server is configured to offer the following services: file sharing, Time Machine and screen sharing.
The power saver settings on the Mac Mini are configured to sleep in 45 minutes, turn the screen off in 1 minute and wake for network access is enabled.  The output of pmset -g is below for reference:
    Active Profiles:
    AC Power                   -1*
    Currently in use:
    hibernatemode      0
    disksleep          10
    womp               1
    networkoversleep   0
    sleep              45
    powerbutton        1
    ttyskeepawake      1
    hibernatefile      /var/vm/sleepimage
    autorestart        1
    panicrestart       15
    displaysleep       1
If the Mac Mini is manually placed in sleep mode, via the Apple Menu or the button on the Login Screen for example, then it will sleep just fine. While the Mac Mini is sleeping, it will wake properly when the shared resources are accessed via another Mac on the network. For example, if the Macbook Pro tries to begin a Time Machine backup using the Time Machine Server on the Mac Mini, it will wake just fine and the backup will complete with no issues. The Mac Mini will not sleep again using the system sleep timer and must be manually put into sleep mode.
There is one printer (Canon MP560) installed on the Mac Mini, connected via USB, not shared on the network and no print jobs stuck in the print que.
I tried using the PleaseSleep software but that causes problems when the Mac Mini is used via Screen Sharing.  When the Mac Mini is controlled remotely via Screen Sharing, PleaseSleep waits about a minute into the session and forces sleep mode, cutting the session short prematurely. This is unacceptable.
Also, there are no assertions that would prevent system idle sleep using the system sleep timer, as seen in the pmset -g assertions output below:
    6/20/12 4:51:02 PM EDT
    Assertion status system-wide:

I Have the same issue with pleasesleep.
No ARD Session without sleep ;-)
My stup is a little bit different to yours.
My MacMini act as an HTPC for Plex and it dosent sleep as well.
I guess it has something to to with External USB HDDs or in your case printers or USB Hubs or etc. etc.
    I found a AppleScript called Nacrolepsy 2.0
It dosent work probebly right now but I hope It could be a solution in the near future.
    Take a look at

  • New Mac Mini Lion Server (mid 2011) and memory type

    Hi,
I found an unclear advice about memory upgrade.
    The manuals says
"Memory modules for your Mac mini must meet the following specifications:
-Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (SO-DIMM) format
    -1333 MHz, PC3-10600E, DDR3 compliant (also called DDR3 1333)
    -Unbuffered and unregistered"
I opened the box and found inside a Samsung chip labelled "... PC3-10600S-11-B2"
Is the PC3-10600E type the same as PC3-10600S?

    Now resolved.......  No further comment

  • Can I install Snow leopard server on the new Mac Mini Lion server?

Hi guys, I purchased a Lion Server and I am wondering if its possible to install Snow Leopard server on it.
I have the Snow Leopard Server install discs and everything , just wondering if there is any thing I should take note of, I personally prefer SLS over Lion.
    What do you guys think?

There's a huge thread on this (client, not server, but same concept) which you can find here.

  • Aperture on Mac mini lion server

Is anyone with problem reinstall aperture on Lion server? When I reinstall (not purchased through app store) aperture, after put in serial the installer just frozen (beach ball). I try many times and restart but doesn't help. And of course I have the Internet connection. Anyone have any idea?

If you were an Elements user you would probably be more than happy with Pixelmator. It's available on the App Store. More info at: www.pixelmator.com
Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with the company.

  • How do I multi-home Lion Server

My Mac-Mini Lion server is using both the wired and wireless connections.  I have two network connections available to  the internet.  However, one is significantly faster than the other.  I want to use the wireless connection for the internet, and the wired connection for local lan traffic.  I should mention that this server is on a combined Active Directory and Open Directory network.  This is the only Mac server and is set up in the Golden Triangle configuration.
What I have done so far:  configured both interfaces with static addresses, pointing at the respective routers.  I should also point out that the slower connection to the internet goes through an authenticated proxy server, so unless that is configured, internet traffic will not work.  The faster internet connection (my wireless connection) does not have that restriction.
I have already turned on the Software Update service for the Mac clients, made a group to update them, and bound the clients to both the Active Directory and Open Directory servers.
The final thing I did was to reorder the network connections in the Network Preference panel, so the wireless connection was at the top of the list.  Until I did that, I could not browse the internet with Safari.
So, have I missed anything which would prevent the Lion Server from downloading Software Updates for the network through the wireless connection, while allowing the client macs to get their updates through the server's wired connection.

I had multiple IP's set on my server, which randomly seemed to switch. It seems like there is an incompatibility still between Server Admin and server.app. Since Apple is pressing developers to test server admin and server.app I am confident those problems will resolve eventually, but for now I have deleted all-but-1 IPv4 and 1 IPv6 address (same interface), the networking interface overview for my server within Server Admin was updated and it looks like it works solid now, this was not by design I presume, so this must be another bug plaguing Lion...
After upgrading Postgres to 9.1.3 and upgrading webmail (upgrade: usr/share/webmail) from www.roundcube.net, making a new site webmail.example.com with the files stored in /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/CustomSitesDefault/webmail/ I made a symbolic link from that 'directory' to the actual built in webmail facility found in /usr/share/webmail by entering the following in terminal.
    ln -s -i /usr/share/webmail/ /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/CustomSitesDefault/webmail/
By doing this it will ask to remove a directory, if you didn't put any important files in there, which I presume you didn't, confirm with the letter y and press enter.
Webmail now works every time the way I want it
    As does profile manager.

  • How to make Mac Mini (Early 2009) sleep in Lion?

After upgrading to Lion, my Mac Mini (Early 2009) stopped going to sleep from the Apple menu or from the keyboard. The problem has persisted with all point releases of Lion. The computer went to sleep with the same peripherals just fine under Snow Leopard.
The display goes to sleep but the computer itself neither suspends nor hibernates. The power light is lit and doesn't pulsate. Measuring how many watts the device draws from the power socket shows that it's not sleeping. It wakes up so quickly that it must be only the display sleeping.
Console log shows nothing when trying to sleep.
Changing the hibernate mode from the default 3 to 25 makes no difference. Running the PleaseSleep app make no difference.
How to put Mac Mini (Early 2009) to sleep (preferably hibernation--not just suspension) under Lion?

    Hello,
Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & the Startup right after that for clues.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • How to reinstall mac os x server on mac mini 2011

    Hi
    i need to help
Can i Reinstall "Mac osx lion server "on my MACMINI 2011

Then you will need to boot to the Recovery HD partition included on the internal drive when Mt Lion was installed. To do that at startup hold down the Command+r keys and that will boot the computer from the recovery HD. Once that starts use Disk Utility to Erase the Macintosh HD partition. Once that finishes exit DU and select Reinstall Mac OS X and Mt Lion will be downloaded from the internet and whenn that finishes downloading the install will start. Have the Apple ID and password you used to originally install Mt Lion. And it is best to Wire the computer to your internet router, Ethernet cable from computer to router. You can use WiFi but if for some reason the WiFi drops out you will have to start over from the beginning with the Mt Lion download.
