Hi Theo,
HDD is fest mounted on your machine and it is not easy to change it. First of all you must to remove keyboard, then display and top cover too. If you want to do it yourself be careful. If you make something wrong it can be very expensive.
It is not easy to say what the limit of HDD is but I am pretty sure that you can use 10GB without any problems. Try to contact Toshiba Service Partner. Maybe they can give you some precise information.

How to boot up from new harddrive install

I'm about to replace my harddrive before it crashes. My question is, can I copy my existing HD data onto the new harddrive before installing it? I have a firewire case I can use for this process. I have a freeware copy of Superduper I can use.
I have replaced my HD once before, but it was after my drive crashed so I had to do a new install of OS X and then replace all apps one-by-one. I'm hoping to avoid this by replacing the drive early this time, and it would be great if a cloned copy of my contents put onto the new drive before install could allow me to boot up and operate normally. Thanks!

Sure. Put the new drive in the FW enclosure and prep the drive:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select the new hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
7. Repeat Steps 4-6 for each volume created if more than one.
Next, clone your old system to the new drive:

1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
2. Select the external drive's volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
5. Select the the external drive's volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
6. Select the startup volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
8. Select the destination drive on the Desktop and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. At the bottom in the Ownership and Permissions section be sure the box labeled "Ignore Permissions on this Volume" is unchecked. Verify the settings for Ownership and Permissions as follows: Owner=system with read/write; Group=admin with read/write; Other with read-only. If they are not correct then reset them.
Upon completion of cloning open the Startup Disk preference, select the icon for the external drive, then click on the Restart button. If all goes well your computer should start up from the external drive. Now shut down and swap drives.

Last Friday apparently one of my raid drives started failing.
As I mentioned on this forum I started getting continous beeping.
I was finally able to get the raid working at a degraded level. I ordered a replacement hard drive which is arriving today.
(In the meantime I made twice daily backups of my work.....)
Below was the message I got from the browser based raid software:

At one point when I did the checked the browser interface I saw the message Failed and Degraded
As I said, I was able to work over the weekend on the degraded system.
This morning I got the beeping again and did the rescue and now I am running a "full raid" without the notice that one raid was "Free".
In any case, the new hard drive is arriving today.
What steps should I take to incorporate the new drive into the raid system.
I have one OS drive
and 4 tb raid drives.   One needs to be replaced with the new one that I am getting today.

Please tell me how to read the serial number from an individual drive rather easily, without un-installing them:
If you select the proper drive to change out, you only need to remove one drive and look at its serial number...
Step 1: Identify bad drive serial number using Areca's tools
Step 2: Turn off the computer
Step 3: Remove what you think is the bad drive based on following your numbered cable method, marked hot-swap bays, whatever
Step 4: Verify that the serial number matches the "bad drive" serial number from step 1; if it does great, proceed; if it does not match, go back to step 3
Step 5: Change out the CORRECT drive - that's the bottom line for this whole procedure

Connecting your external harddrive to your Mac, use the Finder to browse to it
Find your iTunes folder on the ext HDD and double-click on iTunes Library.itl

How can I know my iPhone 5 are broken or just normal?

1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

I wound up solving, or at least working around my problem. Selecting "Custom Install", instead of Upgrade, took me to a dialog box where Installer could format the Bootcamp drive from scratch. Installation then proceeded as expected. Unfortunately this cost me my partition, but that was better than being stuck in this Upgrade Catch-22. Note that formatting and partitioning this drive within the Boot Camp assistant did not solve my problem.
