How to replace media files to pre-existing FCP, retain edits?

Here's the gist: I accidentally imported footage from 2 tapes as DV instead of HDV. I didn't notice this until the project was more or less done, but I need it to be HDV.
Basically I have 2 files set up as a multiclip that toggles between each other. I figured once I re-captured the new HDV footage and designated the same IN points as the previous DV footage, my EDL in the Final Cut project would sync. This is not happening.
My theory is that I didn't set any IN\OUT points prior to capturing the video, so my time code is not aligning.
Can anyone think of what to try so I don't have to re-edit the entire project from scratch?

You can use regular ATA drives in the G4 (I have 4 in my mirror drive door G4 for a total of 820gb).
I wouldn't use Media Manager in this case. Just do a simple drag/copy from one to the other, copying the MOST important files first. Remember, you can always recapture or rerender so those file may be sacrificed if you're running out of time.
Try to set up the exact same folder structure on the new drive - it may help FCP reconnect the media quicker, especially if you get another Firewire drive and give it the same name as the old one (once you disconnect the old one).
If FCP does have a problem reconnecting, check the box where is ask to "Reconnect Manually" then navigate to the new file. When you reconnect the first one, click the box that says "Connect all offline files in relative path" (or something close to that) and FCP should be able to find the remaining files on its own.

  • How to add a file to an existing package programmatically in Acrobat 8?

    Hello
Is it possible to add a file to an existing package programmatically in Acrobat 8? (embed a pdf file in a pdf package programmatically); If so, how should I do it?
    Thanks in advance,

Finally, I found out how to add a file to an existing package programmatically by using JavaScript (function: app.execMenuItem("AddFileAttachment")). Thanks for your help Ironsenth. However, I need to specify the file to attach programmatically and I can't figure out how to do it.
Could you let me know where I can find this information (what document to read)? Is there any parameters for the 'AddFileAttachment' method?
    Thanks in advance,

  • How do I find and include pre-existing music files on my PC?

I'm new to iTunes and believe that I should be able to find and include pre-existing music files on my PC?
I've found out how to show the menu bar but I can't see how to do the above except file/folder by file/folder.

    Hello there, LeighCenturion.
The following Knowledge Base article provides instruction on how to add content from your computer to iTunes:
Adding music and other content to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1473#2
    Specifically:
Adding content on your computer to iTunes
iTunes helps you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats. You can also add video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format to iTunes. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.
    Open iTunes
From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
    MacAdd to Library
    Windows
    Add File to Library
    Add Folder to Library
Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add
If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • How to replace event file AND replace edits in timeline

Is it possible to replace a video/file in an event, and in turn replace what it was used for in the timeline? For example, if I used some footage from an event and I cut i up 3 times in a project and added transitions and effects, is it possible to replace the file in the event with a new file (same length) and have the same cuts/transitions/effects applied to the new file in the timeline?
I hope my question is clear. I've been trying to do this in the original media folder but with no luck.
    Thanks!

hit cmd-c in the Project to copy the clip('s settings)
select the new clip in the Event
drag on old clip, select one of the replace-options
select replaced clip, cmd-alt-v, apply effects/colors/…
I would NEVER dare to 'fumble' with the internal file-structure of a data-base (=FCPX)
Yeah I've learned that the hard way. I'll probably never do that again. Anyways, I didn't think about copying the clips settings. That definently works. I guess what I was looking for (or dreaming of) was some kind of automatic way. In After Effects and I believe premiere, you can right-click on a file in the "Event" folder and it will replace it the project as well automatically. I don't think anything like this exists for FCP however. I'm pretty sure the only way would to wait for apple to add something like this, or create some kind of script/plugin/automater. Any ideas?

  • How to isolate media files in Applications from video uploaders within FMS

    Hello,
We have linux-centos with FMS 3.5.2, apache is on another server.
We host media files within applications folders.
The media files are uploaded via ssh by different users, each one populating her own my_app/streams.
    the problem:
We do not want the users to be able to see/download one another files while connected via ssh.
This is difficult because of the user/group needed by FMS.
We tried several hours changing groups/users without finding a solution.
Either FMS cannot stream or a user can see/download elsewhere than in her my_app/stream
(to explain a bit better, I hope, a view of a situation where it does stream, but also leave media files accessible to useradm2)
    FMS is run by fmsuser:fmsgrp
    user1 uid:gid is usr1adm:fmsgrp
    user2 usi:gig is usr2adm:fmsgrp

VOD changes won't help him, he said outside the applications
folder. According to adobe any new vod folders must be in the
applications folder, hence virtually worthless for most purposes. A
better question may be, how do you specify a folder on a different
local hard drive. I wish adobe wouldn't make it so complicated, it
should be a really simple matter.

  • How to retieve media files ?

Dear all, I just updated my Ipad into version 7.0.2 but I lost all photos and other media files after updating, my ipad was stuck in recovery mode (tried to out of recovery mode but didnt work untill I update it) how to retrieve them back, tried some third party software but  didnt work. please help, thanks

First thing, media files are like usual files (binary files to be specific). So, all the methods which are applicable to binary files can be used for media files as well.
    1. upload media files into local drive (ex...from c:\tmp1\movie.mpg to d:\tmp2\movie.mpg)This is very simple file copying, see: [http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/io/bytestreams.html] .
I have used data sink. but i am stuck.. it is not storing..Why you tried data sink? Do you have a processor to transcode the media file into another format ? Is it transcoding that you want to achieve?
    2. for transferring files over n/w, I know how to zip and unzip other files and process those at client side..but i want to know, Is there any special method available for 'media files'?.No (atleast I don't know....)
    @captfoss: I agree with you.
    Thanks!

  • How to get Media File in Context

    Hello Everyone,
I have an application on which i need to store and manage millions of media content (can be audio/visual). As i cannot maintain that much content in the WebContext, so i put the content on the different server.
Now the problem is when someone need to play the media content than that content need to be with in the WebContext other wise the Media Player does not get the URL/Content.
Now As i have put the data on different server, how i get the files in the Cureent Applications web context????
I am out of ideas at the moment. Please suggest something. I am using Struts1.3,JSP,JSTL for the presentation layer and Hibernate for the DB Layer.

You just need a servlet to access the place where the media content is, and stream it back to the client.
http://balusc.blogspot.com/2009/02/fileservlet-supporting-resume-and.html has an example (and links) for a File/Image servlet that does something similar.
You may need to adapt it if you are streaming stuff, but it the theory remains the same.
    cheers,

  • Replacing media files

I use Still Life for doing photo montage work since it really makes workflow quick. It gives you the option of exporting your final movie in QT or DV for further editing in FCP. On one such project, I had forgotten which codec to export in and mistakenly used QT, which requires further rendering in FCP. Since time was of the essence, I did not want to re-export from Still Life into the DV codec, so I finished my project so I could get it to the client.
Now I need to make some edits to a newer version and want to sort this out before going further. One problem with the QT version of these files is that they don't play quite right, there is a stuttering between frames.
What I want to do is replace the QT files with DV files that I have re-exported. I have tried doing a "re-link" to the DV files of the same name, but that does not work quite right. Is there another way to replace the media files with these new ones that are of the same timecode? I have a lot of edits that I made to the FCP project and these files....
    Thanks!

OK, here is what I have tried, with links to pictures I took....
First, made sure I was exporting from Still Life correctly to make sure I had the correct settings (I tried exporting via 720x576 also):
    http://www.lastcut.com/test/problem/1.jpg
Shot 2 is a grab of what the aspect ratio looked like with the original files:
    http://www.lastcut.com/test/problem/2.jpg
Shot 3 is a grab of the item properties for one of these original files:
    http://www.lastcut.com/test/problem/3.jpg
Shot 4 is a grab of what one of the new QT compressed files looks like when I bring it into FCP, substituting it for one of the old files.
    http://www.lastcut.com/test/problem/4.jpg
Shot 5 is a grab of this file's properties:
    http://www.lastcut.com/test/problem/5.jpg
Shot 6 is a grab of my sequence settings, just in case people think I have it setup wrong:
    http://www.lastcut.com/test/problem/6.jpg
Shot 7 is the sequence properties:
    http://www.lastcut.com/test/problem/7.jpg
So, from all that I can tell, all of my settings are correct. I have no idea why PAL is showing up in pixel aspect on any of the clips, original or new. I've never done anything with PAL. As to the last poster, I don't want to resize anything in the motion menu because that will make my video more pixellated.

  • How to replace a file in an archive without extracting?

Hello, I need to open up an archive and replace one file with the other. As archive file is and actual .ipa file (I'm just changing its type), I don't want to extract it and then re-zip it and rename it to .ipa.
It's beyond simpleness on Windows OS, but on a Mac you can only see content of an archive and extract any chosen one, but not replacing it directly.
Maybe there are simple terminal commands to do so?
    Thank you.

    man zip
or see it on the web: https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/DOCUMENTATION/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/ man1/zip.1.html
