I have received an .sio file of a Logic project that uses MIDI instruments I do not own.
How can I replace these with the built-in EX-24 sampler?

Check, if you have a volume automation set on the software instrument track.
If the track volume automation curve is enabled, the volume slider for the track will move with the automation curve.
Click the automation curves disclosure triangle in the track header and disable the volume automation. -
Has anyone used reMIDI as a plug-in for Garageband ('08)? The program allows MIDI instruments to be strummed or arpegiated. I have a trial version, but can't get it to work in Garageband. Wonder how to set it up.

Because there are so many variables involved in this type of setup, it is not possible to provide a step by step guide that will work for everyone with all devices.
It is possible that a setup guide exists for the the WD drive and AirPort Extreme, but you will have to go looking for it on the Internet. Even if you find one, it may not be tailored to your specific situation or needs.
Sometimes, you can do everything right....at least according to someone's article or "how to" guide, and things still will not work correctly.
In situations like this, when you really don't know what to do, you need to enlist the aid of an IT pro, who will know what to do based on your particular products and unique circumstances. Sometimes....they won't be able to get things working either due to particular circumstances.
But, before you do this, I would strongly recommend that you use a Static IP address for your Internet connection with your ISP. If you do not have this now, contact them to ask them if they offer this type of connection. Expect to pay more for this type of service, of course. -

I can see midi instruments in playback but can't hear them. How?
I have a Macbook Pro and I'm using Logic express for the first time.
I am recording guitar tracks and playing them back using an M-Audio firewire 410.
However when I try to do anything with a midi instrument I can't hear it at all. I'm seeing the notes that i hit on the keyboard appear in the track and I can see the light bumping up and down in time to the notes.
Yet at no point will ANY of the audio emerge for the midi instruments.
This all works fine with Garage band and Reason and the LE 7.2.3 download has been installed.
Any idea where I'm going wrong.I am having the same problem or a similar problem. I'm running Logic Express 7.2.3. on an 800MHz PowerPC G4, using Mac OS X version 10.4.9. I've gone into Logic Pro > Preferences > Audio and the Core Audio Tab is checked "Enabled." I've entered notes as midi data on track 18 (Polysynth) and can see them on the score screen, and when I press "play" the verticle line moves across the notes but I hear nothing through the speakers attached to the computer. I've also tried the Caps Lock Keyboard and never get any sound through the speakers no matter which Audio Instrument I select. The only sound I've ever obtained from the program has been the clicks when the record button is pressed. I have been searching the manuel and Orren Morton's LOGIC PRO 7 POWER! but have found nothing that works. Any assistance that anyone can give will be appreciated.

How do I keep my Patch names for my external Midi instruments when starting
Whenever I start a new project all the names in the different banks are just numbers.
I use a JV-2080 with expansion cards which represent close to 2000 patch names in 11 banks.
(I have some other Midi instruments too with their banks)
I have a "basic setup" project where all the patches for all the instruments are loaded, and until I know a better way, I always start with that "basic setup" and then modify it and "save as" a new project.
Is that the only way? or is there a way to automatically load all the patch names in the Multi Instrument window?
I find it very annoying that I cannot start a project from scratch, without having to copy and paste hundreds of patch names.
I read somewhere in the manual that "initializing" the banks in the Multi Instrument Window, occupies extra memory. I find this comment very strange because the text file containing all my patch names is only 24kB just a drop in the bucket.
Or am i missing something?The whole point of autoload temapltes is you setup a Logic song to contain all the stuff you need, environment configuration, patch names, track assignments and so on, so whenever you load Logic or start a new song, all your stuff is instantly there.
Think of it like a real studio - when you start a new song, you don't unpack all your gear from boxes, put them on shelves, and wire them up etc before you start - that stuff is all done once beforehand. You just turn them on, and go.
Same with Logic - it loads your startup template with all your stuff in it, so you can immediately just start doing music, with no futzing necessary. -

Hi. I am trying to record multiple midi instruments simultaneously into Logic Pro 9 through a MOTU USB Fas Lane so that it is similar to recording a live band.
Essentially:
Track 1: Midi Keyboard - Motu Fast Lane Input A - Logic Pro - Software Instrument (Absynth)
Track 2: Midi Drum Kit - Motu Fast Lane Input B - Logic Pro - Software Instrument (Battery)
Neither Midi device can be set to a separate channel.
I would have thought this was a really common application (recoding from multiple live midi sources like a band would normally do) yet it seems unnecessarily complicated.
I gather what I would have to do involves:
1) Going into the Environment.
2) Creating a Physical Input
3) Creating a Sequencer Input
4) Placing a transofrmer between the Physical Input and the Sequencer Input
Where to go ffrom there I have not got a clue!
Any help would be appreciated.
Incidentally I would also like to record two audio tracks at the same time as the midi track, but hoepfully that does not complicate things further.

I made a song using exclusively the Logic Studio's midi instruments.
I would like to save the project as wav file, having all instruments as editable wavs.
My problem is...
I saved the song going through the next steps: File > Export > All Tracks As Audio Files...
and each instrument was saved as an individual wav.
How should I proceed to have all instruments as wav files in the same project [not individually] saved?

What do you mean, (not individually)? You say you want to have all instruments as editable WAV's. That doesn't compute...
Every track has to be exported as audio (which you already did). They will be saved as audio files, which you then have to reimport onto the correct positions, being the same position as the (MIDI) regions they were exported from. -
Noticed that the SoCal midi stick clicks were replayed to another instrument. the program asked to download additional content. after doing so the program repeatedly asks to perform the same task. a continual loop after download is complete. Also notice other midi instruments being replaced. Buggy, this software be!

Route midi instrument to a track insert
Hey guys,
I just purchased native instruments the finger and it sounds really fun.
I have a synth instrument and i put the finger as an insert on that track.
I then create a midi track but I dont see how its possible in the known universe of the logic interface to link that midi instrument to a track insert...
The thing about the finger is that its ran by keys and knobs so simply automating params will not work.
Any help would be good.

My midi is a yahama keyboard and I am able to create beats and make songs through the sounds of the logic instruments. I'm having trouble since I don't know how to get the midi instrument sounds recorded onto logic pro. I can record the notes from the keyboard but I just can't get the instrumental sound from it. Also I was wondering how you are able to rip a song apart. I know how to put the song file into logic, but I dont know how to take for an example: the lyrics, away from the beat, or the drums, etc. Somebody please help, this would be very much appreciated. Thank You.If you want the actual sounds of your yamaha to be recorded into logic, you need to connect its audio output to your audio interface so that the sound from the keyboard can come into logic and be monitored and/or recorded. do a search on external instruments in your pdf manual for more info.
as for 'ripping a song apart', you can't do that with any software, hardware or magic wand. the only way to get the individual tracks of a song as separate tracks is to get them from the original multitrack recording. if you are a remixer and a record label asks you to do a remix and gives you the parts, then you're in luck. or you might find something on the internet (probably not legal so beware)..
there is one karaoke-style phase trick you can do to reduce the volume or sometimes eliminate the vocal (and anything else that is precisely in the centre of the stereo image) but this is a gimmicky thing, it won't achieve what you are after. -
How to Replace an 11" Air Display Cable??

I recently bought an 11" Mid 2011 Air for a great deal. The issue is the old Display Cable, which the guy called the LCD Ribbon (I'm assuming it's the same thing) is suspected as being broken because there are lines going up and down the screen for a few inches mid screen. Anyone know of any instructions on how to replace that, or can anyone help me with instructions?
Is that a difficult replace?

Plugins on external MIDI instruments?
is it possible to use plugins on external midi instruments? and if so, how? cant find anything in the manual (although i do not doubt it is in there).
i guessed i could create an audio track, route the inputs from the inputs to which my instrument is connected to on my interface, and insert plugins on the audio track. but im not getting any signal on the audio track, even though the instrument plays fine and i can see it appearing on the relevant inputs on my interface (anyway this was just a guess, that could be the completely wrong thing to do).
i hope that makes sense. thanks in advance.Set up your midi instruments using a logic "external" instrument. Select it from the instrument list, set in/out assignments and midi channel. Then the sounds will appear on channel strips like an internal instrument allowing full use of all the mixer elements.

You can try using Workflows for automatically replacing NULLs with any specific value.
What you can do is: Create a workflow and set trigger action as Record Import, Record Create and Record Update. So, that whenever any change will occur in the repository; that workflow will trigger.
Now create an assignment expression for replacing NULLs with any specific value and use that assignment expression in your workflow by using Assign Step in workflow.
For exiting records, you will have to replace NULLs manually using the process given by Preethi else you can export those records in an Excel spreadsheet which have NULLs and then replace all NULLs with any string value and then reimport those records in your MDM repository.
