How to replace over cast sky (no pixels) using Photoshop 8?

New to Photoshop 8 for Mac OSX. Image has a severely over cast sky. Essentially no pixels. Attempted to use smart brush or quick fix using info shown on Adobe TV. The blank sky area was selected properly but the color ( blue sky 1) failed to be added. These tools seem to work only when there are some pixels (color ) in the selected area. I did successfully use the quick fix feature on an image that had some pixels within the selected sky area. Having the capability to easily add blue sky to a severely overcast sky will be necessary to upgrade fron PSE6 to PSE6.

I am not an expert re this tool, having had occasion to use it just a couple of times.
Be sure that in the tool's option bar, "inverse" is not checked if you want to work on the subject
I did an experiment, opening up a new blank file, transparent. I could not lay down any color with the tool.
The same obtains when you go to Enhance>adjust color>replace color. If the layer is all black or white (i.e.no color), then it will not work.
My take on this is that some pixels have to be present for functionality.

how can I measure selected area of pixels using photoshop elements 12?

    Show the 'information' panel F8).
In the middle horizontal section, select 'pixels' on the left drop-down menu.
Use the rectangular marquee tool to select your area: the dimensions in pixels of the rectangle is shown under 'dimensions' on the right.
I think there are other ways to measure a line segment, but you could use the above measure by adjusting the rectangular marquee tools to both extremities of the segment,
    - use the move tool to rotate the rectangle so that the diagonal measuring the segment is horizontal,
    - move the rectangle to the left, and check validate, which creates another rectangle including the first one
    - read the pixel dimension (L:) in the info panel like above.

    Hi
awk it's not best for this job.
For replace charecter - generaly use tr or sed
    Example on awk:
    awk -F<old_char> ' { for (i=1; i<NF ;i++ ) printf ( "%s<new_char>", $i ); print $NF }' <file>
    #Replace "e" on "a" in /etc/hosts
    awk -Fe ' { for (i=1; i<NF ;i++ ) printf ( "%sa", $i ); print $NF }' /etc/hosts
    Regards.
    PS. Same on *tr"
    cat file | tr "e" "a"

  • How to replace a sub vi that is used in many main VIs with another sub vi under a different file name without repeating the replace vi operation?

    Hello,
I am converting a LV5.1.1 llb to LV7.1 that contains serial sub VIs ("Serial Port Read.vi", "Serial Port Write.vi", and "Bytes at Serial Port.vi") that need to be replaced with the newer VISA serial sub VIs ("VISA Read.vi", "VISA Write.vi", and "VISA Bytes at Serial Port.vi").  The older serial sub VIs are used on many different main VIs under the same llb, and I want to be able to replace all the older serial sub VIs with the equivalent VISA sub VIs in LV7.1 without repeating the same replace VI task on each main VI.  Please advise if it can be done in LV7.1 and how?
Thank you so much for your help,
    Valen

If you have the old serial VIs in the llb, make a copy of it and delete them. Then, when you open the top level VI in 7.1, LabVIEW should replace them with compatibility VIs of the same name but using VISA.

  • How do I straighten images using Photoshop CS2?

Can someone please tell me how I straighten images like horizons and buildings using Photoshop CS2?
I run the software under Windows XP
    Thank you.

What I do is press Ctrl-T which activates Free Transform. I press Ctrl-" which turns on the grid. I can then rotate the file to correct a drooping horizon, or I can Right-Click on the image to activate the contextual menu, and select Skew. In that mode, I can grab a corner and drag it up or down, right or left, to shift or tilt the image.
Another way to level horizons is to use the Measure tool and from the menu, <Image>, <Rotate Canvas>, <Arbitrary>. You use the Measure tool to draw a line from one part of the horizon to another. When you click Arbitrary you'll get a little dialog. Click <OK> and the image rotates. You'll need to deal with cropping next since your image no longer fills the corners.

  • I need to create an accessible pdf anyone know how? im using photoshop cs4

I need to create a PDF that will be used by a screen reader... i.e Jaws but dont know how to, can anyone help?

Don't use Photoshop. Accessibility means sensibly formatted paragraph text, links, comments and metadata that can be interpreted by the reader engine and other accessibility aides, none of which PS will care for as it is primarily concerned with retaining the appearance.

  • How to replace hard drive and transfer everything over?

I've looked everywhere but am unable to find a definitive guide on how to do this.
Currently I have an early 2011 MBP that came with Snow Leopard and upgraded to Lion later. It has an HDD and I want to replace it with an SSD and transfer everything over to the SSD. Considering Lion created a Recovery partition (and there is also an EFI partition), I'm confused on how to do this the best way to basically copy my current hard drive to the new SSD.
The best I've figured out is to connect the SSD with a SATA-USB cable, use the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant ( http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1433 ) to create a Recovery partition on the new SSD, then, booting into Recovery, install Lion on the new SSD, and then use Migration Assistant to transfer all my files over.
Is there a simpler or better-explained way to basically copy my current hard drive over to a new SSD and then remove the HDD and use the SSD?

How to replace or upgrade a drive in a laptop
Step One: Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Step Two: Remove the old drive and install the new drive.  Place the old drive in an external USB enclosure.  You can buy one at OWC who is also a good vendor for drives.
Step Three: Boot from the external drive.  Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears.  Select the icon for the external drive then click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Step Four: New Hard Drive Preparation
    1.  Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your new hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Step Five: Clone the old drive to the new drive
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new internal drive. Source means the old external drive.
Step Six: Open the Startup Disk preferences and select the new internal volume.  Click on the Restart button.  You should boot from the new drive.  Eject the external drive and disconnect it from the computer.

  • How to replace StepTypes over a hole SequnceFile

    Hi,
I have to update a StepType in some SequenceFiles.
Lets say there is type "User1" and it should be replaced with type "User2"
I found no suitable Teststand solution.
I opened the .seq file with Visual Studio and did a serach and replace over the hole file.
This is working well but i have to use VS !
Is anybody there knowing to solve this in TS ?

    Go to Solution.

    Hi Juergen,
Can you not use the Find and Replace in the Edit Menu
there is and option the replace all instances.
Apply Replacements in Types to Type Instances—Enable this option if you want the Replace operation to update all instances of a type when a Replace is done on the value of a type property. Normally, changes to the value of a type property do not affect existing instances of a type.
