How to replicate easy photo view/editing of Windows?

I switched a few months ago from a Windows XP machine to a Mac Air running Lion. I've searched for the answers to these questions but they are too general to search for here or in the App Store, so I'll try submitting a big question.
On my Windows XP laptop, I could insert my camera's SD card, quickly view each photo in a preview pane, rename it quickly in the same window and delete from the same window. This allows you to quickly go through many versions of the same photo, rename the one you want to keep and delete the rest. When finished, you only need to drop and drag the ones you want to keep into whatever folder you want.
There isn't an easy option with OSX, is there? I want to view and rename them while on the SD card, then transport them where I want. Loading into iPhoto is clunky and I'm losing track of where the different versions are. Opening them in Preview doesn't allow me to quickly and easily rename and delete them (though you can toggle back and forth and eventually do this). Any ideas?

While the procedure dsimagry has described will work it is not the safest way to do this.
Think about it, you have your images on the SD card from the camera they exist no where else. Now you'tre going to go in and start renaming and deleting images from the card, the chance for making a mistake that will delete an image you can;t get back is huge.
If you do this you should at least do your self the favor of copying the SD card to a folder on your HD before messing with it. Once you done and are sure you didn;t delete the wrong images you can delete the folder (if you have space issues) but you should really be thinking about backups for the images.
While you may find iPhoto (or Aperture) clunky at first these apps are design to be Digital Asset Managers (DAM's) and take care of a lot of this low level grunt work for you. If you have iPhoto installed (and you should if you have a new Mac that came with Lion) take some time to play around with it. You'll find it to be a great help managing your image files.
There is also a specific group here for iPhoto (and Aperture also). Lots of good people willing to help you get setup.

Yes - the windows camera wizard should open : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . Or they can be manually copied from the iPad as it will appear as a 'camera' in windows explorer (in a similar way to how a memory card in a card reader would).

I loaded a number of photos off my camera and am now struggling to move them into different folders. I am unable to drag and drop, or copy and paste them into the new folders I have created and am getting more and more fedup!

If you are still experiencing this issue, I would suggest doing a clean install of Windows. When I viewed the specifications for your system, I see it shipped with Windows 7. If you do a system recovery, it will take you back to the original OS. Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7) . You have an option during the recovery process to backup all your data, therefore you would not loose anything. Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7). Here are the steps to follow before upgrading to Windows 8.1. Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Please let me know the outcome.

How to lock icloud photo folder on my windows 7

i recently have purchased an iphone 6 and am loving it. Ive set up my icloud account and realized it is nice having my photos automatically uploaded to my icloud photo folder on my pc. I am just wondering if there is any way i can put a password or lock this folder because i share my pc with my younger siblings and can have personal photos that i want to keep private. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I had already done that before giving him the phone. I left iTunes Match on it because in my mind, he would have access to his music and more. I guess he did not like the clutter form having the entire music to have to browse through.
In any case, I fixed the problem by doing a factory reset and restore from backup.
I should not need to do that .. but that got rid of the iTunes Match from the device.

How can I transfer photos from an old Windows phone to an iPhone without a PC/Mac?

My mother has used a Windows phone for the last three years and has just upgraded to an iPhone. She doesn't have a PC or Mac. I have tried using MS OneDrive, which automatically uploads pictures taken with the Windows phone, similar to the iCloud Photo Library. However, using the iOS app to access those pictures, they have been shrunk down to a tiny fraction of their original size. They are unusable, a blurry, pixilated mess. And you can only save one at a time to the iPhone camera roll. Is there any other way to do this? I obviously want the full size photos to be copied over to the iPhone, en masse.

I was going to suggest Dropbox but apparently they announced a Windows Phone app in November and it isn't out yet. Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone. It sounds like you are trying to import photos from your iPhone, but the AutoPlay dialogue box doesn't automatically appear.
You may need to enable AutoPlay on your computer:
Connect your iOS device to the computer. If the AutoPlay window appears, click "Import Pictures and Videos using Windows", then skip to step 4. If the "Import Pictures and Video" dialog appears, skip to step 4.
Note: If the AutoPlay dialog box does not automatically open, you may need to enable the behavior.

How do I add photos to a tabbed window?

If I add a tabbed window using the "Widgets" tab, I will want to place multiple photos within any of the tabbed windows I created. HOWEVER, I am unable to find a way to upload/add photos to any of the tabbed windows.
Typically, I should be able to find a way to "Import" a photo or image into each tabbed window. However, I am not seeing that option anywhere? I have hovered my mouse over the blue circled arrows and NOTHING shows up that allows me to import or upload an image.
Can someone please help me.

Are you referring to the Tabbed Panels widget in Muse Widget Library?
If yes, you may just use the place option to add an image within any panel.
From the File menu, select Place; and then click anywhere inside the panel to add the image.

How to find the photos in iphone on windows

I just got my iphone 3G last week, i have been taking pics with my iphone, but the problem i have is that I couldnt find the pics i took either in itune or my pictures, can anyone help??

It seems that iTunes is only usefull for syncing photos FROM your pc to the iPhone and will not download the photos taken on the iPhone to your PC.
I found that I could use the microsoft camera and photo wizard to download the photos from the iPhone to the PC. It treats the iPhone as a digital camera.
I have noticed some 'bad behavior'. The iphone reuses numerical photo names so you will end up with multiple photos with the same "name". It would be better if the iPhone would continually increment the name and allow a prefix, like iP-xxxxx.jpg to avoid duplicates.
Once you use the camera wizard to download the photos to the pc, you can arrange them into folders and sync them back to the iPhone with iTunes. Folders will become "Albums" on the iPhone.
I found that orientation information seems to get lost in the process, and portrait photos tken on the iPhone get screwed up.

In Windows Explorer or FileManager, go to the disc that shows up when you connect your iPhone.
See if there is a folder called DCIM.

Photo viewer not showing updated folders

Hi,
I am syncing with a Windows PC. I noticed that after adding photographs to a folder in My Pictures the new photographs don't show up on screen when I select Photos / Folder Name. It has the original photographs in there, but not the new ones ones.
Looking at the Photos page in iTunes I notice that the folder has 19 photographs. Only three show up in the cycle when I choose that folder.
I notice that the missing photographs do show up on the photo screen saver.
Apart from stopping syncing photos and adding them again any idea how to fix this?

You can try the following steps:
1. Go to Start, type folder options into the Search box and then press Enter.
2. On the View tab, uncheck "Always show icons, never thumbnails".
3. Click Apply and then click OK.
4. Go to Start, type folder options into the Search box and then press Enter.
5. On the View tab, check "Always show icons, never thumbnails".
6. Click Apply and then click OK.

PSE 9 cant load photos in edit

I installed Photoshop Elements 9, on my MacBook, but I can not open edit or move photos to edit. When I click on the button next to FIX the program seems to be attempting to install something, but when it completes the cycle I don't have access to editing tools other than the tools to edit in organize. How do I get photos into Edit?

Use of the tools is pretty much the same in all versions of the program.
"Edit" is a menu item in Photoshop Elements Editor. Don't you see this?

To view your library on another computer on the same network, you could use "Sharing". Set the iPhoto Preferences to share your entire library or selected albums:

iPhoto Libraries cannot be synched between computers. If you want to have the libraries on both computers identical, you need to use the same library on both machines. Store your iPhoto library on an external disk (formatted MacOS X Extended (Journaled) and plug the disk into the mac you are currently working with. Don't put the library onto a network drive - that will be a very sow access and may corrupt your photo library.
To add new photos/events to iPhoto your other mac you can use the Photo Stream.
Finally, how do all of these photos with edits, etc relate to what I see on my iPad 3rd generation and iPhone 5?
You can only sync one iPhoto library with each OS device. If you sync a device alternately with each computer using iTunes Photo sync, the albums synced from the other photo library will be replaced by the new sync.
