How to replicate full database in 10g

Hi,
We have 9i database but soon we will be migrating to 10gR2. I want to see are there any other options in 10g to replicate full database other than data guard. I want to use that replicated database when ever primary database is not available due to network or other issues.
Thanks!

I'm not sure I follow. A database is either in ARCHIVELOG mode or it isn't. That's not a table-level setting. Are you saying that you do unlogged operations into a subset of tables on a regular basis?
If so, does that mean that this is a data warehouse/ data mart and not an OLTP system? Could you rebuild the standby once a day, say, after the batch load and fail over to that point-in-time system? Or are there ongoing transactions that need to be replicated?

    Venu,
My recommendation to you is that collect statistics for the schemas which are required. Using dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats. Also, collect system statistics to boos cbo to get produce more optimized execution plans.
Leave apart sys (dictionary table) statistics.
Read oracle performance tuning guide for more on how to collect system stastitics and pros and cons of it, try to do it on test or uat env. first, before going on production.

  • How to Extract CREATE DATABASE for 10g?

I've seen utilities that will re-create the full 'CREATE DATABASE' syntax for a 8i or 9i database. I'd like to do the same thing for 10g that understands the features of 10g like SYSAUX and other new features. I looked at DBMS_METADATA but it doesn't really cover the CREATE DATABASE syntax.
Has any seen a routine to extract CREATE DATABASE syntax for a 10g database?

  • How to monitor various databases using 10g OEM

I have Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g Databases. How can I configure Oracle 10g OEM to monitor all these databases. In Oracle 9i OEM it was easy. But I didn't find the method to add it in 10g OEM? Can we access the 10g OEM only through browser?
    Regards

If you are installing Database and you choose to use Database Control, it is a different thing from Grid Control. Database Control comes with its one agent which is different from Grid Control's management agent.
If you install a database on different host and you do not have Grid control, you can use the database control for that database for that host. If you have grid control, then you can install the Management Agent separately on that new host to manage the new database as a Grid Control target.

The best is to stop using paleolithic backup techniques and use RMAN with Block Change Tracking.

  • How i recover my database

    Dear All
My database crash but luckly i have logical and phsical backup of my data base and i try my level best but i did not get good result, so plz let me know, how i recover my database(Oracle 10g, OS:window xp), means even i attach my tablespaces also
    thsnks in advance
    Regards,

10g means what? Please provide a full and complete version number.
What do you mean by logical and physical backup ... be very specific and clear. For example don't say "export" indicate whether it was made with exp or datapump and how you were logged on and the parameters used when it was created.
What do you mean by "crash." Again be very specific and clear.
We can do more harm by guessing your situation whereas we can help if we know what actually happened.

  • Export full database

How does export full database work in data-pump .Does it also exports system and sysaux tablespaces or only all schema data and related metadata.

DataPump is a logical export, so it works with DB objects - schemas, tables, views, etc.
So when you perform full export - then all info from sys/system and other users is exported to the dump

    Hi,
Can you please guide me on how to enable full text search in UCM after I have installed it. My database is Oracle 10g. It would be great if you could guide me through the steps since I am very new to this product.

    Hi
Are you sure that your indexer is finishing without any errors? Check activeindex.hda under \search directory to see what is the variable set for activeindex variable? If Oracle Text is the indexer search enabled then the variable activeindex should either OTS1 or OTS2. If anything else then you have indexer problems that is not indexing documents.
Check the CS log file to see if indexer errors are shown there. If yes, then put it over here so that we can analyse it.
    Hope it helps

exp full database from 8i and import it in 10g. You can exp only particular schemas, it really depends, what kind of data you need, how much data You need to import and so on. But exp/imp is the answer how to get data into new database.

  • How to create database in 10g xe

How to create database in 10g xe? could you please direct me to which documentation in 10g xe website? is it possible to create the db from the web console? if so, how? I can't seem to find a way to do it? Thanks

You cannot: there can only be one XE database per host and it's created when you install Oracle XE.

  • How to determine who performed the last full database dump before cumulative dump

    Hello,
ASE 15.7 SP100 allows cumulative backups, and if cumulative dump is tried before a full dump, ASE shows this error:
You cannot execute an incremental dump before a full database dump.
From my experiments, it seems that it does not matter how the full dump is performed (by native isql, or by a 3rd party API). As long as a full dump is done on a database, ASE seems to be keeping track of all the changed pages since the last full dump. So this means that you can perform a full dump using a 3rd party API, and then on isql, if you run a cumulative dump command, the cumulative dump succeeds, which is based on the last full dump by another library!
So, my question is: is there any way to programmatically determine how (by native isql or 3rd party) the last full backup was performed? I believe $SYBASE_HOME/ASE-15_0/dumphist contains this info, but it requires 'enable dump history' to be set first, and I am looking for a solution which does not involve checking a disk file.
    Thanks,
    Ali

    Dear Mr Razib,
I have not explored the feature but ASE autiding might provide you the possibility to access information on past database dumps via SQL.
Apart from that - I am not aware of an SQL interface to the dumphist file (would be nice to have, I agree)
Enabling dump history is definitley highly recommended  (in my opinion) .
There is yet another feature which might help you to prevent an DBA from dumping databases and transactions to various locations.
When you create a DUMP CONFIGURATION and additionally set parameter
            enforce dump configuration
ASE will prevent normal (free style) DUMP commands but enforce the use of an existing dump configuration. The mechanism is not fool proof (nothing prevents from creating yet another dump configuration on the fly) - but at least something.
    With kind regards
    Tilman Model-Bosch

Oracle 10g is obsolete.  Oracle 11g is already at terminal release.
Have you installed the Oracle rdbms software?
Installing Oracle and Building the Database
If you are going to be a professional DBA, you need to learn to
    1) read the documentation
    2) wean yourself from dependence on pictures and GUIs.
    3) read the documentation
    =================================================
Learning how to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career.  To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
    Go to  docs.oracle.com.
Locate the link for your Oracle product and version, and click on it.
You are now at the entire documentation set for your selected Oracle product and version.
    BOOKMARK THAT LOCATION
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab (for 10.x) or the "Master Book List" link (for 11.x) you will find the complete documentation library.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what kind of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what kind of information is available there.
Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
Do the same with the Utilities manual.
You don't have to read the above in depth.  They are reference manuals.  Just get familiar with what is there to be referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
    - *Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual*.
    - Take a look in your alert log.  One of the first things listed at startup is the initialization parms with non-default values. Read up on each one of them (listed in your alert log) in the Reference Manual.
    - Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
    - *When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again*.
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.
