How to repurchase lion?

I want to completely restore my whole Macbook White 2010. Which i bought second hand from eBay which came with Lion, Applications, upgraded RAM and GB. I have had it for a month, but it has been playing up slightly... I tried to downgrade to Snow Leopard using his Macbook Pro 13' disks which wouldn't work do to the version difference. I do have a restore disk on the Macbook which i can restore the MacHD on Disk Utility. However, i want a completely restored Macbook. Like new.
It says i have already got Lion installed, which i have. However, i need to purchase it again so it is under my Apple ID and i can do a recovery of it using the re-install Lion option. Obviously, it won't let me buy it again due to it being already installed. I am not sure if the re-seller is installing Lion and App's on his laptops wrong or not. I contacted him and he made me send it back, so he could install it all again.
I am wondering, how can i re-install Lion completely with no USB, Disks or not having it bought by my Apple ID. I would rather not to buy the USB do to the price tag and waiting for it. Is there anyway to purchase it digitally, as i already have it installed so it won't let me.
Thanks.

You can use the gray disks to reinstall Snow Leopard the way it came from the factory. This assuming the seller included the original bundled gray disks, which they should have. Boot to disk one. As soon as you have the chance, launch Disk Utility and erase the hard drive. Then install Snow Leopard, using the defaults.
It says i have already got Lion installed, which i have.
What do you have? Did you purchase Lion from Apple yourself, or was it just already on the MacBook? If the only way you have Lion is that it was already on the laptop when you received it, then no, you haven't purchased Lion, and the seller illegally installed it.

By that, then I would assume I was correct that Lion came illegally with the Mac. Once you have restored the Mac to Snow Leopard, then you will be able to legally purchase Lion for $29 through the App Store. It will want to automatically install once the download is complete. Don't let it. Cancel the install and first copy the installer (in the Applications folder) to a DVD, flash drive, external hard drive, etc. Then you'll have a standing copy of your purchased software available.

  • How to get Lion off my computer and go back to Snow Leopard???

How do I get rid of Lion and go back to Snow Leopard PERMANENTLY?
    I am not techno.
I need simple instructions with plain descriptions. I do not have any discs. The iMac came with Snow Leopard and I loaded NOTHING.
I should never have bought  Lion. It is awful.
Please someone tell me how to get Lion off my computer and go back to Snow Leopard.

Can I use time machine to restart the machine before the fateful day when I bought and installed Lion?
Yes, if you have a pre-Lion backup, but you need an installation disc.
Is there anything else I can do?  more RAM?
I don't know how much RAM you have. It must be at least 2 GB, or Lion wouldn't have installed. If that's all you have, you might get better performance by adding more. But from your description, I doubt that your problem is due entirely, if at all, to a lack of RAM. If you want to troubleshoot the problem, it will take some patience and effort, and you'll need to be in a calm frame of mind.

  • How will mountain lion affect my office for mac 201111

How will mountain Lion affect my office for Mac 2011

I have been using Office for Mac 2011 for almost a year now and the issue started immediately after doing the upgrade.
When I start Outlook I can see that it takes 1 minute plus to set up the identity.
When it finally runs it is very slow and no fun to use. It seems that Outlook is using very few resources when I look at the activity monitor.
Overall it seems that my IMac has become slower than before upgrading to 10.8.
I do not have support with MSFT anymore and I do hope that somebody does report this issue to MSFT.
To me it seems to be very clear a result of the upgrade.
    Hope that helps.

  • How to uninstall lion

Is there anything official from APPLE on how to uninstall LION ?  My Macbook shuts down if I try startup from a Snow Leapard disc.  Can I just drag the entire image from my iMAC to an erased Macbook ?

Thanks for the info.  Here's what I did by copying my iMAC image (SL) onto my Lionized Laptop:  Connected firewire from my Laptop to my 27 inch iMAC, put the laptop in Target Disk Mode (Startup Disk System Preferences), booted the iMAC and used Disk Utility to ERASE and Restore the Laptop with my iMAC image.

    how to uninstall lion 10.7.4

To add to Frank's post .... Or you can boot from the install disks that came with your system, use Disk Utilities to erase the Lion volume and reinstall your prior OS. This assumes you want to remove Lion completely. Back up your system prior to doing this.

  • How to remove lion

Hi just to add myself to the growing number of not so happy people who have upgraded or should i say stepped back in time with os lion. wont bother listing all the probs too many. and i have wasted too much of my time trying to resolve the unresolvable basically the reason why i moved from microsoft to mac was because of crap systems. im afraid lion falls into this catagory less than six months ago i took the leap to mac and was blown away by everything in a good way but since downloading lion dark days are back. long hours waiting for downloads that took mere minutes yesterday take forever today and when its finished bingo the mac tells me i have no memory left and cant open the file and off it pops to crash yet again. ( i have over 800GB spare )  also when i go to apps store to write a review it tells me i cant because i havent purchased it strange but hey not surprised really. anyway thats my little rant anybody tell me how to uninstall lion and go back to snowleopard many thanks

cheesedoff from uk, two pieces of sincere advice:
    1. Don't upgrade to Lion.
    2. Don't come to these discussions looking for help unless you're a programmer. The Dilberts here delight in abusing Apple customers.
    Have at it you Dilberts!

  • How to reinstall Lion from new MBP?

Hi guys. I just bought an Early 2011 MBP with OS X Lion pre-installed. I just want to ask how to reinstall Lion? Just in case I want to reinstall the OS. Thanks! If you could post different ways of doing it, the better.

OS X Lion includes a new feature called Lion Recovery that includes all of the tools you need to reinstall Lion, repair your disk, and even restore from a Time Machine backup without the need for optical discs.

  • How to install Lion OSX on new SSD without install disc

    TL;DR
I need a way to install Lion on a new SSD without an install disc, and how to format it without a Mac.
Hello, just yesterday I opened up my MBP 13" Mid-2010 running 10.7.(4/5) (Not sure which it is, but I think it is 10.7.5) and the first thing I saw was Skype tring to sign in. It looked fine, untill I took a second look and I heard a strange clicking noise coming from my computer. The Sykpe signin page said "Disc I/O error" or something like that. I instantly knew there was something wrong with my hard drive. Tried rebooting, grey screen, strange clicking noise like most people with hard drive failure. I was devistated. It has worked minutes ago, then my brother gets off, I open it up,and the hard drive has failed. After I got over the initial shock, I googled "hard drive replacement" after searching for a while, I noticed most sites just showed how to UPGRADE your hard drive, cloning it and all. Well, heres my main problem. I had no time to clone. Luckily, I had started backup up a month ago, and all my data is safe on my external hard drive, but this is only a time machine backup. No OS. Now, most people can just put in their install disk and voila! But, I, sadly, do not have my install disk. No idea where it went, I just don't have it. So, I was wondering if there was any possible way to make a bootable USB or disk without having acsess to a Mac, or having to buy a disc. I bought Lion, and I'm hoping that there is a way to download this and put it on a USB, then boot my computer from it. Now, my second problem is formatting. I have no idea how to format my SSD, let alone without a Mac. If there is some way to format an SSD so that it will work with a MacBook Pro, that would be great.on a PC
IMPORTANT: No, I don't have ANY install discs, the only one I had, for Snow Leopard, is gone. And no, I don't have access to ANY Macs to format the SSD. Finally, I would really love to be able to do this all cost-free, as I have already purchased the Lion, and dont feel like buying a disc for it again.

    Yes. See below:
    Drive Erase for Lion/Mountain Lion
    1.  Wait until the Main Menu appears. This could take quite some time because you are doing all of this over an Internet connection. You should use Ethernet if possible. It's much faster than wireless. Select Disk Utility from the Main Menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select the SSD main entry (mfgr.'s ID and size.) Click on the Partition tab in DU's main window. Select One partition from the dropdown menu under Partition Scheme.
    3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
After the above has completed quit DU and return to the Main Menu. Click on the Install/Reinstall OS X option then click on the Continue button.
You should be all set if there are no glitches.

  • How to set Lion built-in FTP Server auto run off

    Hello all.
I set FTP Server by using Rumpus Server application.
But Lion's built-in FTP Server is running on the front.
So if I try to connect my FTP Server out of my LAN, I can only connect to the built-in FTP Server despite I wanted to connect Rumpus FTP Server.
It can be solved by unload the built-in FTP Server(using sudo -s launchctl unload...) but every after rebooting I should set it because it is set to run automatically in every booting.
How can I set the auto run off?

well, the ftp server (=ftpd) takes account info from the user list for your mac. so, go to the system settings on your mac, then to users, and then just add another user with a password of your choice (tap on the little plus-sign to add a user!). this will then be a valid user for your ftp server after you restart your ftp server.
the other thing you want to do, about the home directory, is called chroot. you can set the home directory of a specific ftp-user to be another directory then the standard. for this, there are configuration directives in the configuration file in /private/etc/ftpd.conf which you have to edit by hand. so make sure what you do there.
you should read this before editing the file, this will give you a better understanding of what to put there: https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/darwin/reference/manpages/ man8/tnftpd.8.html

  • How to install Lion on a standalone MBP

I gave my daughter a MBP and the Hard drive died.  She has no other Mac's to use.  But does have access to PC's
I am planning to ship her a new HD from OWC but I have no idea how she can install the operating system.
    Any thoughts out there?
I am not opposed to buying a new copy of Lion for her
    Dunc

Apple sells Lion on a USB thumb drive for $69 http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD256Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY She would have to erase and format the drive to use it.
Or you can create a bootable DVD of Lion http://macs.about.com/od/macoperatingsystems/qt/Create-A-Bootable-Copy-Of-Os-X-L ion.htm

  • Any ideas on how I install Lion on a new hard drive

Any ideas on how I might install Lion on a new hard drive when I purchased the OS online from Apple prior to my hard drive failing?       I don't have a disk.

when you install your new drive, what happens? it should boot into internet recovery and you setup from there.
    does it not do that?
here is an article about how to force internet recover http://www.cultofmac.com/106669/force-lion-to-start-internet-recovery-on-your-20 11-or-later-mac-os-x-tips/
here is apple literature about the recovery partition (if you had a hard drive) http://www.apple.com/osx/recovery/
here is a do it yourself downloader that makes a usb stick the recovery disk. If you have data on the usb drive I would back it up, as this will erase everything else on the thumb drive. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1433

  • How to get Lion to recognize my SSD?

I have a new iMac with both a 250GB solid-state disk and a 2TB hard disk. When I tried to replicate my Powerbook  on the iMac, Migration Assistant just looked at the SSD and said there wasn't enough room, not realizing there was a 2TB disk as well. So I migrated my applications and settings to the SSD and then did a straight copy (using the Powerbook as a target disk for the iMac) of my Documents folder. But now I'm having problems (such as an empty desktop, which is the subject of my other post this morning). I now think I know why: Lion says my startup disk is the 2TB hard disk. When I go to Startup Disk system settings, Lion doesn't recognize the existence of the SSD. So two questions:
    1. How do I tell Lion there's an SSD?
    2. Failing that, is there any to tell Migration assistant to use the 2TB hard disk for everything, not the SSD (because, sigh, Migration Assistant doesn't recognize the existence of the 2TB hard disk)?

If I were you, I would open a service request with Apple regarding this problem. You are permitted 90 days of free tech support for new Macs, if I recall correctly, so why not use it?
