How to rerun the setup assistant after it has already run
Here's the deal. I have searched but can't find an answer to this problem.
I'm selling a MacBook Pro with 10.5.6. I zeroed the drive and did a clean install. I created an admin account and completed all of the software updates. The MBP is now clean as a whistle and ready to roll. A nice touch would be for the Welcome video and setup assistant to run just like a brand new Mac for this newbie Mac user.
How can I make it happen?
I know I can reinstall and leave it at that but then the new guy is going to have to sit through all of the software updates.

yes he will, and that would be for the best. it's possible to do what you want but it will leave the admin account you made on the mac. that would really freak the buyer and I wouldn't want to do it to anybody. as a buyer I would not trust a computer sold to me in that condition.
just do an erase and install, restart when prompted to and as soon as the setup assistant shows up quit it using command+q and shut down.

Now that I have the space theonly way I can turn cloud backups on again is to run the setup assistant. Well the assistant only will run when you upgrade or program a new phone which neither apply to me. You have to go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings. This will completely erase the phone. Then go through the setup screens again and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup and follow the prompts.
Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger as it restores the backup. -
Aperture is asking to upgrade library every time I open the application, even after it has already been upgraded. I just ran the update and it is still not fixed. What can I do??? My plug are asking me to re-register them too. This is annoying. Please help!!!!!
How do you try to start the repair dialogue? By starting Aperture or by opening the Library?
If you not already have tried it with directly opening the library:
reveal your Aperture Library in the Finder
Whilst holding down Command(⌘)- option (⌥) double click on the Aperture Library.
Select "repair library" from the dialogue.
What about Frank Caggiano's questions above?
It would be really helpful to know, how many libraries you have, and if this problem is restricted to one of them. -

Settings, general, reset, erase all contenet and settings, then you will restore from icloud.

Can't get past setup assistant after installing leopard...
i am having trouble getting past the setup assistant after installing leopard on my other computer which is a 1.25 ghz G4 desktop. Everything seems to be going fine then the setup assistant comes up and i go through the exercise of filling it out and at the end it says click on done and then you can use the computer. unfortunately it goes right back into the setup assistant like i had never gone there before. it is in some kind of loop. would it be wise to reinstall leopard? if so, does it know that it was installed already and rewrite over the first install? or is there something else i may try. i tried resetting the PRAM and some other things recommended but nothing seems to work. any help will be appreciated.

I can imagine how frustrating this must be for you. It sounds like you went for the (default) Upgrade option.
Okay, how about trying this:
1. With the *OS X 10.5 Install Disk 1* still in the bay, Restart your computer. Without access to menus, you'll have to use the power switch to turn it off. +[Alternatively, if you do have access to menus, select the Restart command (in the Apple menu) — always the preferred method.]+
2. If you're using the power switch method, here, wait about 10 - 15 seconds then depress the power switch again for about 5 full seconds (or until you hear the computer come back to life). +[Alternatively, if you had selected the Restart command in Step 1, the computer will start up again on its own.]+ *Either way, as the computer starts up, press and keep pressing, the Mouse until the disk ejects.* By the way, if you're using a Mighty Mouse with a left and right option, press down on the left side only. Hopefully this will get you out of the loop caused by your Install DVD remaining in the drive.
Finally, to be fair to you, I must tell you that there's a more suitable Forum for your particular kind of problem, viz., *Installation and Setup* (http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1219) I recommend you check out the questions/answers in that Forum in case your question has already been asked and answered.
PS. If you do re-post your question in that Forum, don't forget to mention whether or not you internal hard disk has been backed up.

I bought an iPhone 5 at Best Buy, and they started the setup assistant process. Now I can't go back and start over so I can sync my phone to my iTunes account. I have an old iPhone 3GS and didn't use the iCloud. I backed up to my computer. And now I can't reset my iPhone 5 to sync to my iTunes.
Help.I purchased a iPhone 5, and after completing a backup of my old iPhone 3GS, I in error selected Set Up as a New iPhone in the Setup Assistant.
I connected to iTunes and did a Restore iPhone, which set the iPhone5 back to factory defaults, and I was able to restart the Setup Assistant, and following the apple support instructions, restored from my 3GS backup and synced with my iTunes account. The Restore kept my phone number intact.
I was worried that I would lose the setup of my phone number that was done in the store, but everything worked perfectly. -
The guy at the verizon store programmed my phone before I got the chance to restore my apps, etc. from icloud- therefore i did not get to go through the setup assistant.. How do i get my apps and app data back on my phone w/o having to go through and re-
To restore from an iCloud backup you have to erase the phone and start over. To do this, go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, then go through the setup assistant again and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup. There is no other way to do this.
Be sure you phone is connected to wifi and your charger as this is likely to take some time to finish. -
How do I start the Setup Assistant???
Okay, so I upgraded to Leopard, but the Setup Assistant got stuck on the "connecting" page during registration and stayed like that for an hour. I had no choice but to cancel and disconnected -- and that froze for another 20 minutes. So, I closed the assistant and rebooted... and now I don't know how to load it up again. Can anyone fill me in on where to find the assistant or how to get it to pop back up again?

Everything seems to be running smoothly, except for the fact that I can only connect my iMac and MacBook via wireless and not over ethernet cables, but I'll worry about that later. What irks me to no end is that I can't set any preferences for the folders in the dock. On the iMac I can view them as STACK or FOLDER. Right now they're set to stack and there are no other options. I find the stack ugly and prefer folders. When I hold down, I only get:
Sort by > Name/Date/Kind/etc
View as > Automatic/Fan/Grid
Remove From Dock
Show In Finder
Open "[folder name]"
On the iMac I have a plethora of options. Any idea why this would be?? I feel like I've gone insane with no valid explanation. I can't even reinstall. Now it says I have no room left -- which makes no sense at all. -

i downloaded lion but lost the setup assistant. please help me recover the setup assistant. i do not know where/how to find/enter information in the terminal as was suggested.
Launch the Terminal application; e.g., by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search. Copy or drag -- do not type -- the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
sudo rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. Confirm.
Reboot. The Setup Assistant will launch. -

Thanks for the question, and great question by the way. If you have a device that has already been setup, you can erase it to return to the iOS Setup Assistant:
If you've already set up your device, you can erase all current content to go through the iOS Setup Assistant again. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Do this only if you already have a backup, because this step will remove all current content from your device.

Ater installing Lion, the setup assistant froze and I had to force quit. Now I cannot open it. What can I do?
See if the Recovery HD was installed.
Hold ⌘R on Boot, and if it works, select Reinstall OS X Lion -

Your post sounds very familiar to me,
The setup assistant appears on the iPad screen after you erase it in Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings, after you have wiped the iPad, then the setup assistant guides you through the iPad setup.
But you must erase the device first.
