How to reset a macbook

Hi I'd like to factory reset my macbook because I bought it from someone else its just that I don't have the cd. I bought the computer with Word, Excel and Powerpoint on it (meaning that I don't have the disk or the number) and want to keep it so is there a way to do that? I mean like send the program to another mac then back to mine once its been resetted or burn a disk with the program on it and once its been resetted install again. And how do you reset it? Thank you so much

You're not going to like this but you don't own those applications. It's against the user agreement for the seller to have sold you the computer with those applications on it. Also the seller should have included the original install disc in the sale. At this point you need to purchase an install disc from Apple, I'd suggest Snow leopard OS X 10.6 http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
And after you've erased the hard drive and reinstalled the OS you should purchase the appropriate version of Office.

Click here and follow the instructions. If the computer originally shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, when you reach step 5, insert its original disk, restart with the C key held down, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and install a fresh OS.

  • How to reset my macbook to factory setting

I need to reset my macbook back the factory setting and clean it out.  How do it do this?

What to do before selling or giving away your Mac is one way. Another is:
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

how to reset macbook pro to factory setting?

To restore your computer to factory settings:
    1. Hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting to start into OS X Recovery, and open Disk Utility.
    2. Select "Macintosh HD" in the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.
    3. Close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
After reinstalling OS X, you will have to reinstall your iLife applications. If your Mac came with DVDs, just insert the Applications disc and install them. If your Mac didn't come with DVDs, open App Store > Purchases, and download the iLife applications

  • How to reset my macbook pro late 2011

I have a late 2011 macbook pro that i installed mountain lion when i got it, it orginally had snow leopard. I have the iLife CD and the Mac OS X install DVD but when i put the cd in it says "You cant use this version of the application "install Mac OS X" with this verion of OS X. you have "Install Mac OS X" 23.1.1. If anyone knows what i have to do to reset my macbook pro to factory settings please tell me. I would like a answer ASAP.

In that case, you don't have a Late 2011 MacBook Pro, as they came with Lion, not with Snow Leopard. This message appears because you are trying to reinstall Snow Leopard while you are running Lion or a newer Mac OS X version.
To restore the MacBook Pro to factory settings:
    1. Make a backup of your files.
    2. Insert the Mac OS X disc and hold the C key while your Mac is starting to start up from the disc.
    3. Go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar) > Disk Utility, and erase the drive > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html If you are going to sell the Mac, consider using a secure erase option.
    4. Close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
    5. Insert the Applications disc and install iLife apps.
    6. Open  > Software Update, and install the most recent version.
If you are going to sell the Mac, ignore the steps 5 and 6, and turn off the Mac when the installation is completed.

  • How to reset my macbook air 2012?

hi,, my name is jovito ,,i have this macbook air 2012,, and i planning to buy the new version,, and my friend want to buy my 2012 air.. but before he buy this air,, he wants me to reset it first.. and i dont kmow how to.. please help.. thank you...

Before you sell or give away your computer, in addition to the steps mentioned in this support article, take these steps:
Run the Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics. The buyer will do this (or he should), and you don't want to be surprised by the results.
Reset the PRAM and the SMC, which might contain personal information.
If you set a firmware password, remove it by running Firmware Password Utility in Recovery mode.
If you activated FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, turn it off.
If you use Boot Camp, the partition must be deleted
If you created any other data partitions on the internal drive, remove them in Disk Utility.
Erase the data partition(s) with the option to zero out data. An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You can't legally or practically transfer any software downloaded from the Mac App Store to the new owner of the machine, even if it was free. That includes OS X, so if you upgraded to OS X 10.7 or later, you must reinstall  the original OS, either from the installation media, if applicable, or by booting into Internet Recovery (option-command-R at the startup chime.) If you installed from discs or a read-only USB key, deliver those to the new owner.
The new owner will have to repurchase the software, if need be, under his or her Apple ID. If you ever updated the bundled iLife applications (Garage Band, iMovie, and iPhoto) through the App Store, you can't transfer them either.
Remove the machine from your list of registered products. If it's still covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, transfer the coverage to the new owner by following the instructions in the AppleCare Terms and Conditions (under the heading "Transfer of Plan.")

  • How to reset my macbook pro

I'm running out of space on my macbook, & i really just wanna start over on it. but, how can i reset it?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First, make a backup of your data. Then, open  > About this Mac, and check the Mac OS X version.
If the version is 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6:
Insert the Mac OS X DVD and press C key while your Mac is starting.
Go to Utilities menu > Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the disk.
Close Disk Utility and install Mac OS X.
If the version is 10.7 or 10.8:
Press Command and R keys while your Mac is starting and open Disk Utility.
Select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the disk.
Close Disk Utility and install OS X. Your Mac has to download OS X from Apple, so it will take more time than reinstalling from a DVD

  • HOW TO RESET MY MACBOOK PRO MD976 AS I WANT TO DELETE ALL DATA FROM MACBOOK

how do i reset macbook pro MD976 to factory setting ? , cause i want to sell it .

Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
Step One - Back up your data:
           A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
           B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
              1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
              2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
              3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
                  side.
              4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
                  sure to opt for that.
Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
                   startup drive.
Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
              1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
              3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
              4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
              5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See What to do with iCloud before selling your computer.
Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
         A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
              1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
              2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
              3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              4. Install OS X.
              5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
              6. Shutdown the computer.
         B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
it is three times faster than wireless.
              1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
                  Utilities window appears.
              2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
              3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
              4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
              6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
              7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
              8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
*If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.

  • How to reset a macbook without the cd ?

I have a macbook (2009) and I need to reset it all to sell it. How can I do it without the apple CD ? thanks.

Unless it originally shipped with Lion, that's not possible without purchasing a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD(which won't install iLife) or phoning Apple Support and ordering replacements.
