How to reset a network/network card

Hi folks, i have an old wallstreet g3 running os 10.2.8.
I tried to change some network settings with a utility called Cocktail but it went south and now my built in network card won't work anymore.
Is there any way of resetting the hardware so the card gets his default settings back ?
I tried re-installing the OS but the problem remains.
Thanks.

Prodigy,
I believe the issue is strictly software, not hardware, as long as the Ethernet card has not failed. These third-party utilities can sometimes do more harm than good and other than running the maintenance scripts and emptying caches, I would do nothing else with them unless you are having serious software problems.
You mentioned re-installing the software...did you erase the HD and install an all-new OSX, or perform an archive & install? If the latter, try this procedure: Create a new user account:
- open System Preferences > Accounts and create a new user and name it Test;
- log out/log in to the Test account;
- go to your System Prefs > Network and set up the network with the correct settings.
If you have your Internet connection back, the original problem lies in your Home (user) account. I would log out/log in to your Home account, go to System Prefs > Network and establish a New Location using your settings...see if it will work.
You can try the last suggestion first, but you do want establish whether the problem lies in your Home account or is in fact a system-wide problem.

I told my wireless network to forget two airport expresses 1 1st gen, 1 2nd gen so that I could rename them.  Now the network does not see them even when plugged in about 10 feet away from the airport extreme base station.  The network does recognize a totally new 2nd gen express.  Does "forget" mean forever?  How to reset?

The network does recognize a totally new 2nd gen express.
Then, it sounds like you have already reset the 2nd Gen Express, and now you need to set it up again, like you did the first time. Only, this time, assign the device name that you want to the AirPort Express.
Do NOT use the name that Apple suggests.....which will be something goofy like........Sueswimsf's Red Apple AirPort Express
    Assign a simple name.....something like     2ndGenExpress

  • How to reset network settings

Hello, I cant figure out how to reset my network settings on my macbook pro
I'm doing this because recently, in an effort to make my wireless work better (just bought a new router and it works great) I added an internet proxy to my network preferences (I'm ignorant to what a proxy actually is) and ever since then facebook and espn do not work on my browser. This is the message it displays on Google Chrome:
Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to facebook.com
    Try reloading: facebook.com
    Additional suggestions:
Access a cached copy of facebook.com
    Go to facebook.co
On Safari all it says is that it cannot connect to the surver. After some proding on chrome, it told me that I should unselect any proxy's that were selected so this is what hinted to me that the reason I couldn't access these sites had something to do with the proxy meddling I did earlier. Even after unchecking all proxy settings it still doesn't work. PLEASE HELP!!!

Ok It looks like it reset the settings on the network however I'm running into the same problem with the websites I'm trying to access. Do you know how to fix this?

Try going to system preferences on the Apple menu,>start up disk.select mac osx hd restart.  If you can't get there, hold theoption key when you power up, this will open the start up manager, select the mac osx hd. click the arrow under i and it should boot to the internal drive.  If you don't the password, you will need the install disks to change it.

  • How can I get my network printer to print in color?

I have a Dell 3110cn color printer on my network. Since I did the Maverick update the printer will no longer print in color only b&w. It's using a generic printer driver. I had no problems before the update. It's a great workhorse printer. How can I get this connected properly?

Bruce777 solved this for me, thank you Bruce! My printer now works perfectly on my new wifi network!
Bruce's  instructions, for anyone else having the same issue:
    - delete any previously set up printers
    - scrub old hp software and update software to get the hp 2.8 drivers
    - remove the usb cable from the printer if you have one connected
    - reset the printer network to hpsetup (hold down the power button and press network button 2x and then cancel 3x, release power button.)
    - print out the wireless network test report (hold down the network button and press the update button 2x). verify the network name / ssid is hsetup
    - got to sys prefs > network and change the mac wireless network to hpsetup
    - go to the sys pref > print scan
    - add the HP 8000 printer
    - click on the options and supplies button and click on the Show Printer Webpage
    - click on the networking tab > wireless in the left pane > start network wizard and change the network from hpsetup to your network
    - finish (this page may freeze up.  close the browser)
    - go back to the sys prefs and change the wireless network back to your networt
    - go to the printer and print out the wireless network test report (press network button and update button 2x).  Check that the SSID is your network
    - go to sys prefs > print scan > select your printer > options & supplies > show printer webpage > network info (check ssid and compare to wireless network test report)
    - try printing something to your printer.  It might take a little time the first print.

  • How do I change the network password without a base station?

I do not have an airport base station. My roommate has a PC connected to a router via ethernet and I created a wireless network on the same router via airport. Now I've hopelessly forgotten the password and I can't figure out how to reset it or change it or whatever! Can anyone help me, please? I've searched the forums and have only found answers for those folks with the fancy airport base stations.

    Hi,
The WLAN password could only be change on the router page you found and in order to get there, you need the administrator password.
If you never modify it, you could give a try by entering "Administrator" and leaving password blank which is usually the factory setting. If this not work, it will be necessary to reset your router to its factory setting.
I personnally do not know the Belkin routers. But here is the link to get your router manual:

    Hey there Luba_kalstad,
It sounds like you are unable to join your network and cannot see it in the Wi-Fi list in Settings. I would try the troubleshooting outlined in this article named:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398
Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your Wi-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
And this section down toward the bottom if needed:
Unable to locate a Wi-Fi network
Verify that the network is available by tapping Settings > Wi-Fi and choosing from the available networks.Note: It may take a few seconds for the Wi-Fi network name to appear.
Move closer to your wireless router (access point) and attempt to locate the Wi-Fi network.
If you do not see the network you would like to join, you may be attempting to connect to a hidden network. Learn how to join a hidden network.
Supported Wi-Fi configurations vary by iOS device model. Find out which standards your device supports3.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • I hit Forget Network and now cannot get back onto my wireless home network. All of my other computers and iphones are fine.  How do I get the network back?  It shows in my list of networks but when I use the password and try to join it says not connected.

See if the iPad will accept the password after you restart it. It's worth a try.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
You could also try a reset as well.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • In Order to Configure TCP/IP, You Must Install and Enable a Network Adapter Card

I get this message when I try to TCP/IP settings in any network card.
"In Order to Configure TCP/IP, You Must Install and Enable a Network Adapter Card"
    What I have tried:
    1. Removed card, did not click on "Remove driver". Then re-scanned in device manager. This usually leads to the network card showing up with a yellow exclamation mark, and I can not get it work again (have to use system restore).
    2. Removed card, deinstalled driver, re-installed driver.
    3. Rebooted a thousand times.
    4. Used the Lenovo drivers.
    5. Used the Intel drivers.
Doesn't matter what I do, I'm stuck with yellow exclamation marks in the end for the LAN and WLAN card, with not hope to repair them.
Driver version for the Intel 82579LM is 12.9.15.0
Driver version for the centrino advanced-n 6205 is 15.10.4.2
I'd really like some help on how to fix this so I'm able to configure my network manually.

For clarity, as your machine MTM number lists it with another type of WLAN adapter, and apparently, therein lies your problem.

  • How to uninstall and reinstall network drivers on a Samsung 580?

Hi. During the summer, I got a new laptop. It was all fine and dandy when I was at home, using a dial up connection, but when I went to school, I immediately had problems. Neither the cable connection nor the wireless worked. I've got the wireless to work (only the IPV4 connectivity though, IPV6 does not have connectivity), but cable still isn't workinng. I know it's not the cable cord or jack in the wall because I'm typing this from my old laptop. I made a  thread on the Windows 7 forum here that provides a further detailed report of the issue as well as some diagnostic stuff (the ipconfig/all thing and whatnot).
I'm thinking maybe the problem will fix itself if I reinstall the driver - since I might have monkeyed around with something and made it worse.
I'm asking how to do that. The driver is a Marvell Yukon 88E8059 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller and I have a samsung 580. I made backup discs when I first got the computer and I just want to remove and add one driver. If that doesn't work, then I guess I'll have to do a clean wipe (again, steps please?) unless anyone can offer any further advice.

The information asked for above would really help. Since you don't have a copy of just the network chipset/card driver, please go to the manufactuer's website and download the driver manually. This will overwrite the old driver. However, again, it doesn't sound like this is the problem - still, having the most current drivers is always advisable.

  • HT5569 how do I erase a network

I do have (and find) the desired network and I know the password.  However, I do get the message "unable to join the network".  So my plan is to erase all the data of this existing network on my iPad and try it again.  How can I erase "selected networks" without reseting the iPad to "factory default"?  Any suggestions?

Try the "Reset Network Settings" option in Settings -> General -> Reset
