How to reset battery status in menu bar?

After upgrading to 10.5.5 I experienced sudden loss of performance with both of my batteries.
Overnight the battery yielded only 45 min, and the recharge time was usually about 40 min as well.
As a result of frustration, I decided to crack open the case of 1 battery and connect a 12V 20W bulb to fully discharge the battery.
Possibly as a result of the deep discharge, the battery took 6 hrs to recharge, and now yields approx 3-4 hrs of power.
HERE IS THE PROBLEM. The battery status in the menu bar does not seem to reflect the battery's newly found performance.
It keeps says "40 min." left, and when it runs out of minutes, it displays: "Calculating ... remaining"
The same odd behaviour occurs when charging the battery. It says: "35 min" to full charge, and when it runs out of minutes it displays: "Battery finishing charging"
MOREOVER, yesterday, the low level power indicator appeared, but the computer kept working for another 1.5 hrs before going to sleep.
Finally the System profiler shows this information
Battery Information:
Battery Installed: Yes
First low level warning: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 1661
Remaining Capacity (mAh): 1361
Amperage (mA): -1203
Voltage (mV): 11441
Cycle Count: 71
After the deep discharge, the Full Charge capacity jumped form 640 to 1661.
That's good, isn't it?
But how can I reset the battery status in the menu bar to reflect the actual performance of the
battery? Or did the deep discharge damage something?
Regards

I talked to Apple repeatedly and they refused to replace the battery in spite of the many good arguments I brought forward. Their only argument is that the battery is old (was shipped in 2006)
I even requested them to ask their own technicians whether
it is normal for a battery with only 71 cycles to discharge so soon.
My request was declined.

  • Wifi status in menu bar

I am running Yosemite. I have a good wifi connection. But the wifi status in the menu bar is showing the no-connection icon -- a grey fan with an x.
The drop down menu shows a check mark against the wifi network to which I am attached but below that there is a line which says "Wi-Fi: Not Configured."
    How do I fix this?

Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network in the list.
Note: If AirPort isn’t in the list, click Add at the bottom of the list, choose AirPort from the Interface pop-up menu, give the AirPort service a name, and then click Create.
Select the "Show AirPort status in menu bar" checkbox.
Try checking and unchecking a few times maybe reboot in between

MagicMenu, but it may no longer work.
Auto-hide the dock and menubar on a per-app basis .

  • How do I delete items from menu bar  that are not part of the OS

How do I delete items from menu bar  that are not part of the OS

Perhaps you could be more specific, as it is a little difficult to answer your question without any details.  I can give you some general ideas though.
On my machine there are a few applications that have installed items into the menu bar - I'm assuming you are talking about the icons on the right hand side of the top bar. To remove those items, I would generally need to uninstall the program that created them. To do this varies a little from application to application.
Also, sometimes an application will have preferences that allow you choose if you want to display the item in the menu bar.
So, my general advice would be that you need to identify the application that placed the item there, and remove it from your computer.  If there is an uninstall program for that application, I would run that in the first instance.
If you don't actually wish to uninstall the application, you may need to click on the item or run the application and see if there is a setting to not show the menu bar item.
    Hope that helps.

  • How to see battery status while playing a game

Some games seem to close off menu bars and everything else.
My daughter plays the sims 3 and sometimes uses battery power, but she always panics that the mac will just shut down due to lack of battery power.
How does she see what the power is at while playing the game?
Its normally just in the menu bar, but like i say this game overrides all that info until the game has been quit.
    Thanks.

  • Status in Menu Bar - not showing and can't be selected

I have just found that none of the Apple Preference Panes will permit their status to be shown in the Menu Bar - whilst none Apple Preference Panes do.
At first I thought it was just Time Machine. I noticed the Time Machine icon swirling around in a finder window and went to click on its Menu Bar icon to see how much data it was backing up (hence how long it was going to take) but it wasn't there. When I went into Time Machine's Preference Pane and ticked the box, the tick appeared for a fraction of a second and disappeared.
After a restart it returned but now I have noticed that none of the Apple Preference Panes which I have tried allow their status to be shown:
Time Machine, Spaces, Displays, Sound, Bluetooth, Airport - not even the Clock!
Has anybody any idea why this might be, please?

It occurred to me that this might be a permissions problem - I had repaired permissions using TechTool Pro a few days ago and that may have caused this - who knows!
Anyway, I'm just re-repairing permissions using Disk Utility. It says 'Estimated Time: 3 hours' which considering previous permissions repair seems a long time - maybe that is an indication of the problem.
I'll post again in 3 hours!

  • Mobile Me status in menu bar

Does anyone know how to remove the Mobile Me status indicator from the menu bar? I don't use Mobile Me and prefer not to see extra clutter.

Assuming you mean the 'sync status' for Mobile Me? That's the only thing I have.
Open System Preferences, select Mobile Me and then the Sync tab. At the bottom there's a 'Show status in the menu bar' option.

  • Can't show status in menu bar

I recently acquired a lime clamshell iBook. It's running OS 10.4 and has lots of memory (576MB). Using the System Preferences screens, I have tried to show the AirPort status (via Network) and the Battery Life (via Energy Saver) in the menu bar but neither of these options display anything. In fact the "Show battery life" box doesn't stay checked. Should this work on my old iBook or is there something wrong?
I also find that the clicker works intermittantly. I have a mouse which works fine for for true laptop work I'd like to have a reliable clicker. Can this be fixed at a reasonable cost? I need to buy a new battery as the current one won't hold a charge and I thought I could access the clicker from the battery case.
Other than those problems, it's a great portable abeit a bit heavy but hopefully that means more robust. Thanks for help from anyone who remembers these clamshell iBooks.

Thanks "bund" for the suggestion re the intermittant clicker. Do those two Torx T8 screws also allow for removal of the clicker? I might want to get it out and clean it as well.
As for the lack of icons in the Menu Bar, I can't seem to get anything showing up there, not even the time. Only the Spotlight icon is there. When in the Finder, there seems to be lots of room - about half the bar is empty. There has to be some other reason for not being able to display status (or the date/time) in the Menu Bar.
Anyone who has one of these classic iBooks have that problem? All suggestions welcome.

  • How can I turn on the menu bar for veiw, help, bookmarks?

I have lost the menu bar and status bar on my Firefox. How do I turn it back on?

Firefox 3.6+ versions have a feature to allow the user to hide the Menu bar.
Hit the '''Alt''' key to temporarily show the Menu bar, then open View > Toolbars and select Menu bar, so it has a check-mark. <br />
The F10 can also be used on most PC's to temporarily reveal the Menu bar.

  • Battery Icon in Menu Bar

Last night while I was away from my MacBook, my cat decided to take a nap in his favourite spot: the nice, warm keyboard. When I came back he had made considerable changes not only to the windows I had open and the messages I'd sent to my iChat buddies, he'd managed to change what is displayed in my menu bar. Most significantly, my battery life icon is no longer there. I know there has to be a very simple way to get it back, but I can't find it.
    Any advice?

    Hello kpoehlmann,
Head to *System Preferences -> Energy Saver*. Then click on the "Show Options" button and then the Options tab. Lastly, make sure there is a tick mark next to "Show battery status in the icon bar."
    Hope this helps.

  • Battery indicator on menu bar keeps disappearing...

Everytime I go into preferences and check show battery status for some reason when I reboot the icon in the menu bar disappears.
Is anyone else having this problem?
    Any solutions?

    12 Powerbook 133   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Not sure if this will work or not, but it's worth a try. Go into Users>yourusername>Library>Preferences and move the com.apple.menuextra.battery.plist file to your desktop, or somewhere you can get to it if you need to put it back. Don't copy, the purpose is to take it out of that Preferences folder. Now, open up system preferences, check the display in menu bar option, restart, and hope for the best.
No, it's not possible that doing this will somehow render your computer useless. I just did it on mine to make sure. Somtimes those preference files just need to be rebuilt.

  • How do I get banner & Spry Menu Bar to appear on every page?

    Hi,
I am a new user of Dreamweaver CS6 an a relatively new user to website development in general.
I just followed along through Davide Powers "Creating your first website" tutorial series and found it to be very helpful.  I made it through all six parts and managed to get the Check Magazine sample website up and running.  I now want to use what I learned to creat my own site, and I am stuck already.
The tutorial does a great job of explaining how to setup a Spry Menu Bar to use for navigation.  The tutorial, however, only shows how to put this Spry Menu Bar on the main index.html page.  For my actual site, I would like my navigation bar (and my banner) to appear on every one of my pages.
Can anyone here tell me where I can find instructions on the best way to do this?
My navigation requirements are very simple.  I just want a common banner with navigation buttons to appear at the top of every one of my pages.  The Spry Menu Bar that was created in the tutorial would work great for me assuming I can find a relatively simple way to get it (along with my banner) to appear at the top of every one of my pages.
If it is very complicated to get it to appear on every page (or would require a large time investment in learning advanced techniques), then I would consider passing on the Spry Menu Bar and trying to setup my navigation in a simpler (if more old-fashioned) way.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

If a small, 4-5 page site,  make a prototype page with all your columns, headers, footers, menus, etc...  and go to  File > SaveAs index.html,  and then File > SaveAs > page1.html,  and then File > SaveAs page2.html, etc...
Or you can save your prototype page as a Dreamweaver Template (.dwt file).  Add editable regions for stuff that will change from page to page.  Everything outside editable regions is common to all site pages. Then use your Template to spawn site pages.  File > New > Page from Template, index.html, page1.html, page2.html, etc....    DW Templates are nice site management tool.  But before you use them, read all you can about them in F1 Help as they can be a little tricky to master.
Last but not least, look at Server-Side Includes. They're a huge time saving feature. I use them on every site I build.

  • How can you create a spry menu bar with no background colour?

How can you create the first level of a spry menu bar to have no colour? I have a coloured background right now and the colour matches when you load the site in Internet explorer but does not match in Firefox. Any suggestions are welcomed on how to fix this.
    Thanks!

    Here is the site:

I am learning with code, (obviously) so any feedback would be nice. I use dreamweaver CS4, but when I originally designed the site it was in a much older version of dreamweaver. I wonder if that could also be a cause. (besides human error)
    Thanks again,
