You can insert your CS3 install DVD, and it should give you an option to repair the install.

I am unable to re-activate CS3 after a hard drive crash, despite complete re-installation of the software.
I have: MacBook Pro 2008, OSX 10.6.8, CS3 Master Collection.
I had a hard drive crash and had to restore from Time Machine. On previous occasions when that happened, I have been able to re-open and activate CS3 with no problem. This time I got "we are unable to activate Adobe CS3 MC" message, error code 159:18. I contacted Adobe by Chat, they recommended uninstalling and then re-installing CS3 from my original disks or http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs3-product-downloads.html
. I did that, but I got the exact same message and error code. After that, Adobe Chat could not help and pointed me here.
CS3 has worked fine for six years on this same laptop, even after several HDD crashes and restores from Time Machine. It does not appear to be simply a Time Machine-caused error. (Furthermore, if I startup my laptop from a cloned bootable backup external drive, CS3 still opens.)
Could it be a hard disk problem, the same one that has caused previous crashes?

do not use time machine to install adobe programs.
uninstall everything installed using time machine, clean (Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6) and then properly install using the installation files.

I did a backup and restore of a site collection in 2010. Now subsites are unavailable with access denied error messages. How do correct this? I've done preliminary searchin for powershell commands but I'm not finding anything quickly...

If you can’t login it, please grant the full control in application policy of the application in Admin site.

How to reset OSB domain from EM point of view?

Hi folks,
Since I set up a OSB domain in EM on a client host for the very first time, the administrative server changed (actually moved inside firewall and hence changed its name, consequently I re-installed OSB on it from scratch). Now EM on the client host cannot locate the administrative server, and thus thinks the domain id down. When I try to edit hosts list using EM on the client host (Setup>Hosts), the link directs to the client host itself (like https://client001.example.com/?tab=2&mode=3). As the client host obviously runs no administrative part, the page does not exist.
On the other hand, when asked about OSB devices (Setup>Devices), EM correctly connects to the new administrative server name, and shows the correct answer. Same, obtool running on the client host can connect to the new administrative server and fetch settings from it (e.g. lshosts correctly displays the hosts in the domain).
Seems that the old administrative server name exists only within EM settings. I believe the best thing to do is to re-create OSB domain (from the EM point of view) with the new administrative server in it. How can I do that?

Yesterday I messed with Terminal, not having a clue as to what it is or how to use it. Some users said that it was possible to save all your screenshots in various formats, such as jpg. The directions given were to paste the following line into a Terminal window and press enter: defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg;killall SystemUIServer
So I opened Terminal and was somehow able to add that line to the same page, after what was already there. It worked okay for screenshots, but now I'm having glitches in copying and pasting things from Safari to Word.
Could you please help me delete my change or reset my Terminal?

What glitches are you having? Nothing there should effect copying and pasting between apps so this mayt be a coincidence.
Have you tried rebooting since? I would shutdown the machine and then reboot and se if the problem clears. If not you will need to be more specific in your problem description.

I get audiobooks through audible.com. When playback is stopped a bookmark is saved. When playback is resumed it is possible to advance or rewind from this point. However, when an audiobook has played through to the end (sometimes accidentally) the book mark is at the very end so that the file does not actually begin to play at all! This makes it impossible to rewind it. The only way I have found to do this is when the iPod is conncected to iTunes where there is a slider associated with the file which can be adjusted. How can a bookmark at the very end of an audiobook file be reset when the iPod is not connected to anything?

It's possible to do in Captivate 3 by using some JavaScript code. Some have also reported that it works with Captivate 4 but I have not yet tested it myself.

How to reset bios after no-post from aggressive manual memory timings

I had my comp working fine with spd settings but I tried to set my Mushkin black label 3200 2-2-2 RAM to 2-2-2-6 and got a no-post after. I'm running bios ver. 1.4. I tried to short the jbat1 jumper to clear the cmos--i did it for 5 minutes, and set it back to the default jumper position, but i still got no-post... how can i reset the bios?

Try unpluging the mains and removing the battery ,then use the jumper
If it still wont work try a single stick of PC2100 (or any other type of memory you have to hand) to get into the BIOS and change your settings back

I have been using CS3 for a few years, and just a couple of weeks ago the InDesign program was having troubles, so I uninstalled the programs, and tried to reinstall from disc, but there are error messages and will not reinstall. Run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) to be sure CS3 is really gone, then run MSconfig and turn off all the unnecessary startup programs and services, especially ant-virus and malware scanners, instant messengers, browser helpers and toolbars (but leave Bonjour running if it's in the list) and reboot. If you see a message about running in diagnostic mode on reboot, cancel MSconfig, then run the installer (and using the normnally disabled Administrator account won't hurt, either). After installation you can run MSconfig again and return to normal startup.

As I no longer require CS3 on my Mac after upgrading to CS4 and waiting for the required plugins to be available I have successfully uninstalled CS3 using the Adobe CS3 Creative Suite uninstaller.
NOTE: please make a copy of the 'Adobe Unit Types.osax' found Macintosh HD/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax
At home did this without making a backup of the 'Adobe Unit Types.osax', so when I launched Photoshop CS4 it suffered from the "Error: "One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder.."
At work I did this with making a copy of 'Adobe Unit Types.osax', place it back after the uninstall of CS3... and presto so far so good.

I've been messing around with Leopard Server over the last few months, and as part of that, swupdate server in that as well.
I made the mistake of pointing my laptop at it, which is Snow Leopard 10.6.0 - only to later find that Leopard 10.5 server can't server 10.6 updates as it doesn't catalog correctly.
So, I've backed out my changes to the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist file using defaults.
The system version (/Library/Preferences) file now reads:
grolsch:~ wrkadmin$ defaults read /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
LastAttemptDate = "2009-11-13 22:19:25 +0000";
LastResultCode = 100;
The user version (~/Library/Preferences) reads:
grolsch:~ wrkadmin$ defaults read com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
WebKitDefaultFontSize = 11;
WebKitStandardFont = "Lucida Grande";
So, I've removed all the references to my attempted swupdate server, by ensuring no references of "CatalogURL" exist in either file.
I've also quadrouple checked that there's no managed settings enforced from Workgroup Manager as part of Open Directory on the same Leopard server, and there's definitely nothing enabled.
I've rebooted several times, I've restored the original plist file from before I made the changes to point to my local swupdate server, and I've even deleted the ** com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist file. To no avail.
Everytime I launch Software Update on my laptop, it's still pointing to the internal server, and it says the local server isn't responding.
I've done this backout on Leopard (10.5) machines with NO problem, but on Snow Leopard, it appears that the software update server is possibly held somewhere else, but I'm jiggered if I can find it.
Can anyone point out the schoolboy error that I've missed somewhere please??

Make sure you're not bound to any directory server first. In 10.6 this would be accessed via the Accounts Preferences Pane > Login Options > Network Account Server > Join > Remove any LDAP Server entry. For 10.5 you use Directory Utility in /Applications/Utilities. For 10.4 use Directory Access in /Applications/Utilities. Next launch Terminal and issue these commands
sudo -s
Provide the local admin password when prompted. If you've not set a password set one in the Account Preferences Pane. You won't see the password being typed in Terminal as there's no echo. Follow this with these commands:
rm -R -v /Library/Managed\ Preferences
rm -R -v /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
reboot now
On successful reboot and login you should be OK?
