How to Reset Mavericks Server

Just curious as to how to Reset Mavericks Server like it is being launched for the first time.

Move the Server application to the Trash. Delete the following items (some may not exist), reboot, then put back Server and launch it:
/var/db/.ServerSetupDone
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.serverd.plist
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.servermgrd.plist
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.apple.serverd
/Library/Server

  • How to reset MS server admin password

    Dear all,
I am from RHEL and is new to solaris. I did not change my messaging server admin password. But he one I used before does not work now. How can I reset admin password? I can login amconsole.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jay,
I broswed this forum and found it looks like a common
issue -- admin password does not work suddenly for
some reason even if you did not change anything when
you use commadmin. But I still can logon Sun ONE
Server Console using the same password. Why does this
password not work with commadmin? When I tried to use
    commadmin, I got
Invalid value for login ID: admin
    Invalid value for login password
    Invalid value for login domain:
I checked the LDAP access log and found the server is
responding to admin during BIND. Responding, how?
    My domain is right,
thus the only trouble maker is password.
I also tried to use amadmin/password (they work with
amconsole), but it does not work either. As you
mentioned, it should work, too. How to make them
    work?
Can you please help me further, Jay?you need to start looking more critically at the ldap logs. It's possible that you have more than one "admin" account, and that's confusing DA.

    I apprieate you very much.

  • How to get Mavericks server that is connected to a UPS to restart automatically after a power outage.

This is driving me crazy. Is there anyone running Mavericks as a mission critical server on Backup Power Supplies that has a way to get the servers to restart automatically after a power outage. The UPS vendors all have software for Windows, but not Macs, and the setting in System Preferences, doesn't work with the UPS's Iv'e tried (2 different APC models (Smart and Back-UPs), one Triplite (Smart) and one CyberPower, (all claiming to be Mac compatible))

APC do apparently still do a command-line daemon (PowerChute Network Shutdown) which monitors over the network the UPS and will cleanly shutdown the Mac. For lower-end UPS devices these are typically connected via a USB cable and the built-in Apple System Preferences let you control the options - if it is a model supported. There is however a big limitation of using a USB connection which is that you can only connect a single computer to a UPS via USB and of course most companies have multiple servers.
It maybe that what is happening even if you use APC's software is the following -
    Power failure detected by UPS
    Signal sent to Mac
    Computer does a clean shutdown
    Power restored
UPS has no way to tell Mac because it is shutdown and Mac does not support 'Wake on LAN' if fully shutdown
The Mac does have an option to 'Startup automatically after a power failure'. However this might only take place if the Mac is not cleanly shutdown, it could be that if the Mac is cleanly shutdown it does not count this as a power failure. If this is correct then there is nothing that can be done as users to resolve this, the only way it could be resolved would be if Apple provided a way for a tool like APCs software to both do a clean shutdown and set a flag as this being due to a power failure so that when the Mac does detect the power being restored it triggers the Mac in to booting.
In the dim and distant past when Macs used ADB to connect keyboards and mice the ADB interface did support an external power-on signal. This does not exist for USB.
Personally I have regarded the APC software (PowerChute Network Shutdown 3.0.1) to be so badly supported and so old as to be too risky to use. It lists 10.7 and 10.8 but not 10.9 and uses Java 1.6 which itself is unsupported. There is a third-party tool you might want to look at called NUT (Network Ups Tools) see http://www.networkupstools.org
NUT is free and lets you do clever things like -
Connect a single computer via serial or USB to the UPS
Act as a 'server' over the network to other computers sharing the UPS
When power failure is detected the NUT 'server' sends a signal to the NUT 'clients' so all of them know that there is a power failure and can do their own clean shutdowns
This gets round only being able to connect a single computer via USB.

  • How to Reset Windows 2008/R2 Domain Administrator Password

How to Reset Windows Server 2008/R2 Domain Administrator password if forgot or lost it?
It is annoying and bad to forget a Windows Server 2008/r2 Domain administrator login password. It is troublesome unless you have that Windows Server 2008/r2 password reset disk. We can still find several tricks to reset Windows Server Domain password but they require a mass of operations and waste a lot of time. For example, you can reset Windows Server 2008/R2 domain administrator password with an installation disk but it requires you to type a mass of command line. So today I want to share everyone an omnipotent method to reset Windows Server 2008/R2 Domain/local administrator password. You need the following 3 things.
    An accessible PC.
    A USB/CD/DVD flash drive.
The Windows password reset tool Daossoft Windows Password Rescuer.
Then it requires 4 steps as below:
Step 1: Download and install Daossoft Windows Password Rescuer into that accessible computer.
Step 2: Burn it to the flash drive.
Step 3: Boot your Windows Server computer from the flash drive.
Step 4: Follow its instruction and click “Reset Password” button to reset your Windows 2008/R2 Domain/Local administrator password.
More details in this video: Windows Server 2008 R2 Password Reset - Reset Domain or Local Password.

It wasn't difficult to reset the domain password and I think Microsoft's policy of not providing an easy forward way is to create an
illusion of security which is not there. Linux systems that are much more secure that MSFT software allow easy password reset when physical access is there so why not include the same tools in System Repair tools or using F8?
Anyhow, this guide helped me reset the password in 5 minutes. Read the bottom of it to find the scripted / automatic version of the process:

    Regards, Triyambak

When your Windows Server 2008 R2 computer is still accessible, you can reset or change your administrator password with ease by the following steps.
Step 1: Log in your Windows Server 2008 R2 computer through the administrator account.
Step 2: Click on “Start” on the lower left corner of your screen, and hit “Control Panel”, and then doubt-click on "User Account".
Step 3: Choose “Make changes to your user account”, and then click on “Change your password”.
Step 4: Now you will be asked to enter your current password, type in it.
Step 5: Enter your new password and retype it to confirm your new password. You are optional to type in a word or phrase as the hint of the new password. It is highly recommended.
Another tip, Using a password recovery tool to recover WIndows server 2008 administrator password
This is a universal WIndows password recovery method which can fix any Windows system password issue.
    1. Get Windows Password Rescuer and install it on another computer.
    2. Burn password reset disk into USB or CD/DVD device with Windows password recovery.
    3. Boot Windows server from password reset USB or CD disk
    4. Reset forgotten Windows server 2008 local or domain admin password without data loss.
    Detailed steps: http://www.wimware.com/how-to/reset-windows-server-2008-password.html
I also have seen a way that users can use a Windows server 2008 install CD to reset the administrator password, you could search and have a try.

  • How to reset users and groups in Server.app?

Recently after change settings in the Server.app (like turn off/on open directory, delete/add certificates), I got a strange problem:
In the users and groups list, it display all local users and groups (looks like system users and groups, about 100 users and groups, but this is a new server)
I tried reset the server.app by following
    howto reinstall/reinitialize os x server
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT200271?viewlocale=en_US
These users and groups still showing there.
Have you seen this before and how can I completely reset the server.app to factory default so that I can start over the set up?

In theory, that should restore the users.  You can do some surgery if you are really brave.  But the reinstall generally should be enough.
These accounts are in the DSLocal data store.  Basically, this is very similar to the any OS X machine.  Apple keeps a default copy of the Local Database here:
    /System/Library/DirectoryServices/DefaultLocalDB/Default
Should you need to reset a machine to the default local database, you can remove the current database (/var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default) and then copy the default one to the same location.  I would not go this far unless the reinstall was unsuccessful.
To check, you can run this command:
    dscl . list /Users
That will list all the Users in the local DB.   To get a count, pipe to wc
    dscl . list /Users | wc -l
On a Server that I just jumped on, I see 79 users and 111 groups (dscl . list /Groups | wc -l)  But this is a system will man SACL groups so I likely have more than the default.
Hope this continues to help.  Probably more info that you want.

  • How can I set up Mavericks Server on a Test Mac without affecting the production server

I have Mountain Lion server running as on an xserve as our main server, it has developed a few issues particularly related to Profile Manager and Certificates.
So I was going to use the move to Mavericks as an opportunity to have a fresh start.
So I want to set up Mavericks Server on a mac mini temporarily to test it and configure all the services before moving it to the Xserve as the main server.
My question is what is the best way to do this, obviously I can't use the same IP or hostname as the main server if it is connected to the network, and some services can't be set up without a network connection.
So do I give it a new IP and hostnmame for now and then change it later on, my concern is that changing the hostname might cause issues down the line.
So what is the best way to set up a fresh server in preperation as a drop in replacement of the current server?

Ok I got the test server set up fine and cloned it over to a spare partition on the Xserve.
But when I booted into the new partition several things broke.
1st the IP address changed itself despite the fact it is set to Manual, The Alert section of Server.app let me repair this.
Profile Manager no longer worked, the web page just said Profile manager could not be found, was working fine on the test mac
Tried deleting the OD master and resetting Profile Manager but it still didn't work.
    DNS needed repairing and restarting
I decided at that point to abandon it and go back to the test mac where everything is still working.
Any tips for overcoming these issues.
I have thought maybe it would be best to turn off all server services before making the clone and then turn them on one at a time once it has been restored to the new partition on the xserve
Also if the certificates that are created when making an OD master were made on the mac mini does that cause a problem when it has been restored to a different machine, should I leave OD off and just set it up when it is in its final place?

  • How do I add augmented records in Mavericks Server 3?

This article: Mavericks Server Admin: Integrate with existing directory domains clearly indicates that you can "Integrate with augmented records."  I have found instructions on how to import augmented users from Active Directory into 10.6 Server, but I'm using a 10.9 Server and can't figure out how this is done.  Advice please?

You can do that easily from workgroup manager by going to server > new augmented user records,
if you want to add all users choose the group option and search for "domain users" this way you can add all users from specific AD group.

  • How do I uninstall Mavericks Server?

Okay, I wasn't really using my MacBook Pro as a server in the past, but it appears that Apple has added a "helpful" feature to Mavericks Server where, according to "pmset -g",  Server is perpetually preventing the computer from sleeping: "sleep prevented by com.apple serve"
I'm not really using Server on my Mac anymore, so how do I uninstall it under Mavericks? I've searched Apple Support and the rest of the web, and can see plenty of advice out there for Lion and Mountain Lion, but none for Mavericks yet, so I'm wondering if someone has already done this...

I was talking about uninstalling Mavericks Server, not Mavericks. The server is just one app that happens to install a number of other services. But anyway, here's my advice:
If you have a computer that Apple launched on or after Mavericks launched, then you cannot uninstall Mavericks.
If you have an older computer, then the best way to get the old OS back is to restore a backup from before you installed Mavericks. Lacking that, if you made an install DVD of the old OS before running the installer (which is always a good idea), then you can boot that DVD, wipe your drive, and install the older OS. You will lose all your data by wiping the drive, so make a backup of important data first.
If you don't have a backup, or you don't have an older OS install DVD, then consider this to be a learning experience. If Mavericks broke your app, then you'll have to wait for a newer version to come along.

  • How to reset the wiki server (MAC OS X 10.9 with OS X Server App Version 3) with all wiki datas only

    Hi,
I need to reset my Wiki on MAC OS X 10.9 with OS X Server App Version 3, but without reinstalling the whole server app to configure all services.
Does anybody knows how to reset the wiki server (MAC OS X 10.9 with OS X Server App Version 3) with all wiki datas only.
Thanks a lot for your hints

    Hi Linc,
sorry, I haven't saved the System-Logfile before restoring my parallels VM.
But it looks like issues of linking data.
For testing the Server services I have done a reset for a user password and I have deleted the profiles and configuration from Client-Side. One with Mac OS X 10.9.1, one iPad with iOS 6.1.3. But it was not possible to reconfigure/reinstall the Server Profile. Also a manually configuration was odd, because for some services the new password was necessary and for other services the old password. Very strange.
To bring back the services I have rolled back the last snapshot of my parallels VM. Afterwards there was no probleme to reconfigure/reinstall the Profile on Client-Side (OS X 10.9.1 and iOS 6.1.3). Also the manually configuration shows the password for all services are matching with the current configuration.
I'm going to install a further parallels VM with Mac OS X 10.9.1 and Server App 3 from scratch to move the services.
    Greetings

  • How to customize mavericks' mac osx server apache configuration?

I have installed Mac OSX Mavericks Server and I would like to add some features to the Apache Server (gitolite, redmine, etc.) I've started with updating the httpd_server_app.conf file in/Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2 but unfortunately it has been overwritten by the server to its default. Maybe because I've updated something in the UI, or an update occurred... Anyway, I would like to know how can I update the configuration file in a permanent and persistent way, and still benefit the OSX Server UI and/or updates...
I've probably missed the big : "Put your own things here:" label...
PS: By the way, I wish to modify some of the current configuration, not only adding things...

If you scroll down through the standard httpd_server_app.conf file you will eventually find a section full of include options. (Some of which are commented out.)
One of these enabled include options is for /Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2/other/*.conf
The implication of this is that if you put your own httpd.conf file in the 'other' directory then any settings you put in it will be included in your Apache configuration and will not be over-written by Apple's Server.app software.
