Precisely because there are so many variables, resetting everything to default values will seldom be the right thing to do.
You can, of course, achieve such a default resetting by trashing Photoshop preferences as follows:
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here.
Mac OS
Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If  you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.

  • How to inforce specific color settings in InDesign CS4 js

    Hi, I need to set specific color settings when creating a pdf from InDesign in Java script (not as a preset). What I found in previous discutions is:
    #target InDesign
    app.ColorSettings.cmsSettings="MyColorSettings";
    ( in the Forum
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1108248#1108248),
    which just somewhat make sence to me.
    I saved my MyColorSettings.csf file in color settings folder, but I am not sure how to tell the script to access it, and I am not sure that that's the only
    reason why the lines abouve don't work.
    Thank you for your help.
    Yulia

    Yulia, everything wrong in your script: first of all, setting cmsSettings and cmsSettingsPath at the same time makes no sense — this is the same as choosing a setting in Color Settings dialog and then clicking the Load button and selecting another setting — the second cancels the first. So, you need to set only cmsSettingsPath property. If you take a look at this property in OMV, you'll see that it requires File not String, as you are trying to set.
    I would use the following code:
    var myPath = "/Volumes/SPACE/Prepress/Export settings/InDesign CS4/ShowPDFoptions_CS4.jsx";
    var myFile = new File (myPath);
    if (myFile.exists) {
        app.colorSettings.cmsSettingsPath = myFile;
    else {
        alert("File \""+ myPath + "\" can't be found.");
    You don't mention if you use Mac OS or Windows, or both at your work.
    On Mac volume name should be prepended with "/Volumes":
    /Volumes/Remote/dir/file
    On Windows, to access a remote volume, use a uniform naming convention path name of the form
    //servername/sharename.
    Or, if you have a mapped network drive:
    /Z/foldername/foldername/filename
    Where Z is a letter corresponding to your drive.
    To find out the path to a file, you can also use the following script:
    myFilePath = File.openDialog("Locate the file");
    $.writeln(decodeURI (myFilePath));
    It writes the path of the chosen file to console

  • Odd desktop/display bug - how to reset user display settings?

    Greetings all,
    I woke up yesterday morning to a puzzling problem with my G5. I logged in and started working - and I needed to use the windows remote desktop client to shell into a machine at work. I noticed that the fonts looked sort of funny (randomly quished) so I logged out and then back in. Then I noticed that the problem was not in the RDC display, but in the display of my mac.
    This is sort of hard to describe w/out actually seeing it, but here goes...
    When I move my mouse across the desktop (or what ever apps I have open) and the mouse pointer moves across and invisible (yet perceptible) line on my screen real estate, my background, icons, parts of displayed apps and fonts "shift". This causes fonts in the affected are to get messed up and causes general display irritation. That's the best way I can describe it, it's sort of a "you have to see it" problem. I will also note that this problem did not arise after an update or a software install or weird crash. Just another day.
    So first I tried messing with my display settings (change resolution, color profiles, setting the background to a solid color, turning off screen saver). Rebooting. Nothing. Still there.
    So next I log into another account (the root account). Ah ha! No display problems! Tried creating another user-level account. No problems there either. Now we're getting somewhere - it's something that is effecting my main user account and not a problem with my monitor, video card or OS. That's good.
    So since then I've tried:
    - Grooming the disc that my home directory lives on with DiskWarrior.
    - Repaired permissions.
    - Deleting the contents of home/Library/Fonts in case it's some funky font rendering issue causing this.
    - Deleted the contents of home/Library/Preferences/MicroSoft to get any of its potential badness out of my life.
    - Scanning with FontDoctor looking for bad fonts.
    - Deleted my desktop and finder plist files.
    - General maintenance and cache cleaning (including the MS font cache) with Onyx.
    - Booting to Safe Mode.
    Nothing. The display problem persists afflicting that one user account. All other accounts (root, and a second user-level account residing on the same disc) are free of these problems even though they are all using the same display settings (monitor, resolution, color profiles, etc). And as already noted, this problem was not "brought on" by anything like an update, installation, preferences modification or fatal seeming crash of an app.
    So, my question to all you good people is: what am I missing, what might be causing this and what else can be scrubbed from that account (cache, plist files, etc etc) that might be harboring and causing this display bug? I would really rather solve this problem than go through the very very arduous task of moving all of my stuff to another account (an option, but a very unattractive one).
    I was not a mac user during the OS 9 days, but I remember my co-workers doing the "rebuilding the desktop" dance. I realize that this is no longer an issue, but I guess I'm looking for something like that. I need to remove any and everything from my user account that has anything to do with display and font rendering since it's obviously some setting lurking in that account causing the issue.
    I googled and searched the forums for this yesterday but could not come up with anything like it and all of the maintenance tasks I tried have not worked.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Monte
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi.
    What kind of G5 do you have? An iMac or a PowerMac?
    A PowerMac.
    If you own a PowerMac, you'd better take a look (o
    try with another one) at the DVI cable connecting the
    display.
    I did check my connections, but also, why would a faulty DVI cable only cause problems with a single user account and none of the others?
    If you want to reset the display settings, start in
    Safe Mode, and trash these files:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist
    /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.a
    pple.windowserver.some_number.plist
    If I were at home now, I would try and report back. But I'm not. I'll definitely give it a try as soon as I can. Thanks for the pointer!
    Cheers,

  • InDesign CC always resets desktop color settings on new start

    This is very annoying: InDesign CC still is not able to save the color settings I choose for the desktop (palettes, workspace background). Everytime I restart InDesign I have to manually set these things again. Since CC came out, I have been hoping that one of the updates would finally fix this.
    I am using a multi-monitor workspace, InDesign CC (9.1. ) on a mac pro. I had the problem under OSX 10.8.X and now still under OSX 10.9.1.

    I am having the same problem. The workspace will not save. Every time I open the program, it has reverted to some other configuration. Very frustrating.
    I am using a single monitor workspace, InDesign CC (9.2) on a Windows 7 64-bit machine.

  • How to reset to default settings for safari 4.1.3

    Need a bit of help here... for some reason I'm not getting use of Safari 4.1.3, not able to open sites, the Open location function in pull down menu is greyed out and no bar for typing in sites I want to browse. I think I just may have to reset Safari to default settings, but not sure how... Opening up Preferences is no help.

    Hi..
    I hate to say this but v10.4.11 with Safari 4.1.3 is really outdated. You may have problems loading websites for that reason alone and lack of security. Apple has not updated Safari for Tiger for years.
    But try a reset.
    From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari
    Select the following:
    Clear history
    Reset Top Sites
    Remove all webpage preview images
    Empty the cache
    Clear the Downloads window
    Remove all cookies
    Remove all website icons
    Click Reset
    Quit and relaunch Safari. See if that made a difference.
    I have an iBook G4 running v10.4 with Safari 4.1.3 and more often than not, websites won't load. Or I'll see the, "your browser is not supported', dialog.
    You might want to consider a new Mac at some point.

  • Resetting print color settings

    Hopefully someone can help me on this one. Everytime i try to print a photo using iPhoto, the dark areas print BLUE. The same photo prints fine in Photoshop.
    I've changed all the ink cartridges (Canon PIXMA MP500) so its not low ink.
    Is there a way to reset color output settings in iPhoto? I'm burning through the expensive photo paper!!!
    thanks.

    Have you run a nozzle check with the printer? Something similar like that happened to me. It was a plugged nozzle.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • [SOLVED] How to reset system font settings

    HI All,
    In my efforts to get decent looking fonts, I have somehow ended up with a system where the fonts are always sub-optimal no matter what I do.   I installed DejaVu-ttf and also the Infinality font set.
    I'm not sure how Infinality is supposed to work, but the impression I got from reading instructions is that it is a drop-in replacement of the system fonts, but now that I have mucked with things too much I'm not sure I'm seeing the best result I can get.
    Is there a way to just reset my KDE font config to the default (hopefully without resetting my entire desktop)?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Thank you Boohomil,
    I set up the .Xresources with the code you included, but even if I xrdb it directly, I cannot see the xft stuff in the output of env.  Not sure what's wrong with that.
    However, I set up everything else the way you recommended and things are looking a bit better.   I actually have messed with the KDE font settings, but following cfr's advice, I just set everything to Liberation as in the xml code.
    For some reason the fonts look much better when I run Gnome than KDE, which bothers me immensely.  I moved to Arch because I want to learn to have control of everything, but it looks like I'm kind of stuck on the fonts!   No worries, I'll keep chipping away at it as I have time.
    Thanks a lot,
    Chris
    bohoomil wrote:
    First of all, I'm not sure what your KDE font settings look like. I believe you've left everything as is, so open your control panel and duplicate the values from /etc/fonts/conf.d/10-base-rendering.conf in the appropriate section. This should include hintstyle=slight, antialias=true, subpixel order=rgb, dpi=96. You may try using hintstyle=full if necessary.
    Next, check your xft settings. You should see the following:
    $ env | grep Xft
    Xft.antialias: 1
    Xft.autohint: 0
    Xft.dpi: 96
    Xft.hinting: 1
    Xft.hintstyle: hintfull
    Xft.lcdfilter: lcddefault
    Xft.rgba: rgb
    If the output is different, put the values above to your .Xresources file and make sure it gets loaded with your desktop. This should basically duplicate the values you have already set in your KDE control panel.
    Next, check if your fontconfig settings are loaded properly. Simply run 'env | grep INFINALITY' and if you get a list of entries starting with INFINALITY_FT_, then everything is OK.
    Finally, try changing your default fonts. DejaVu is fine as a backup family, but using it as a base one is not a good idea. If you have access to Win 7/8 fonts, use them. If not, check Liberation, ChromesOS or Droid families. Install them all and set the defaults in $HOME/.config/fontconfig/conf.d/65-latin.conf:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">
    <fontconfig>
    <!-- ## serif ## -->
    <alias>
    <family>serif</family>
    <prefer>
    <family>Liberation Serif</family>
    </prefer>
    </alias>
    <!-- ## sans-serif ## -->
    <alias>
    <family>sans-serif</family>
    <prefer>
    <family>Liberation Sans</family>
    </prefer>
    </alias>
    <!-- ## monospace ## -->
    <alias>
    <family>monospace</family>
    <prefer>
    <family>Liberation Mono</family>
    </prefer>
    </alias>
    </fontconfig>
    If you are going to use Windows fonts and don't want to change anything, you don't need this file. By the way, you can find it along with other examples in the infinality-bundle documentation.

  • I have a used 4 or 4s, I am not sure but the phone shuts down at any time. I do not have any idea on how to reset or change settings. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    I think I just need a hard reboot to clean out all the junk on this phone. Without any manuals or any real useful info online from apple on older phones this is my only real outlet.

    Try to set it back to factory settings, explained in this article:

    To find out more about your phone check these articles as well:

  • How to source .Xdefaults' color settings from other config files?

    I'd like to reuse the colors I've setup in my .Xdefaults in other config files, I'm not sure if I could somehow source these from other scripts, or if I should centralize them another way...
    Any pointers ?
    cheers

    I don't have a clue but have you checked the archwiki?
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xdefaults
    sure...
    Knute wrote:Though, in partial answer to your question, I would suggest that perhaps, those programs that use the terminal color notations could be affected by *colorX (where X is a number between 0 and 15).
    Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be working...
    Knute wrote:The other option, is to maybe set theose colors up in a different script that just exports the names, and then use those variables?
    Gues that's what I'll do...

  • Does anyone know how to reset to factory settings?

    I bought my mac used and was told by the seller to take my mac to apple to have them restore it. I bought snow leopard but my mac will not install it. I am thinking that if I go back to factory settings everything will work again on here. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    Call Apple to get replacement DVDs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
    Then, follow these steps:
    1. Insert the Mac OS X disc and hold the C key while your computer is starting.
    2. Select the language, go to Utilities menu > Disk Utility, choose your hard disk at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the drive.
    3. Close Disk Utility and reinstall Mac OS X.
    After doing that, open  > Software Update, and install the most recent version. Finally, you should be able to upgrade to Snow Leopard, only if you are using 10.4 or 10.5. To check the Mac OS X version, open  > About this Mac

  • How to reset network settings

    Hello, I cant figure out how to reset my network settings on my macbook pro
    I'm doing this because recently, in an effort to make my wireless work better (just bought a new router and it works great) I added an internet proxy to my network preferences (I'm ignorant to what a proxy actually is) and ever since then facebook and espn do not work on my browser. This is the message it displays on Google Chrome:
    Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to facebook.com
    Try reloading: facebook.com
    Additional suggestions:
    Access a cached copy of facebook.com
    Go to facebook.co
    On Safari all it says is that it cannot connect to the surver. After some proding on chrome, it told me that I should unselect any proxy's that were selected so this is what hinted to me that the reason I couldn't access these sites had something to do with the proxy meddling I did earlier. Even after unchecking all proxy settings it still doesn't work. PLEASE HELP!!!

    Ok It looks like it reset the settings on the network however I'm running into the same problem with the websites I'm trying to access. Do you know how to fix this?
