How to reset paths (NOT missing photos)

I have created a new folder with all my photos. Within it are individual folders named by year (2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009...).
I have several old catalogs with photos pointing to different files on several external HDs.  I want to relink them nice and neatly so that they all point to the photos on my newly created folder on a dedicated external HD.
How can I relink all the photos? I've searched all over the internet but the only information that I can find are those related to "missing photos and question marks in the corner (and not just "resetting paths" as in Expression Media/iView).   I have attempted to FORCE the question mark and relink it that way but Lightroom will not find nearby files. It only finds photos taken on the same day.
There must be some easy way like in Expression Media/iView to simply reset the path, i.e., manually relink in big batches (all photos in one folder).
I'd be so grateful for any insight and solutions anybody could offer me.

You've a couple of routes - for individual images, or for folders.
With individual images, it depends on the image being missing. If it has a little question mark or exclamation mark in the corner in grid view, click the missing file marker and point to where the photo is now located. Ensure "Find Nearby" is ticked, and press OK. LR will read the filenames of other missing files and try to find them too. This route is no use if the image is not missing.
With folders, you can right click any folder. You get a question mark if the folder is missing, and right click - "Find Missing Folder". If the folder is not missing, the context menu is "Update Folder Location". In each case you can now point to the new folder location.
To make it easy on yourself, right click a parent folder and update its location. Its child folders will then be updated too.
Does that help?

  • How to back-up notes and photos to computer?

    Hello everyone!
I have been having issues with my iPod for a while now. I installed an update which crashed my iTunes completely and wiped my music - annoying.
Since then I have been in contact with Apple who have advised me to restore my iPod as I have a few bugs causing duplicated artwork only visible on my iPod and missing artwork that again shows on my iTunes but doesn't appear on my iPod.
I set up an iCloud account however none of my notes seem to sync to it. When my iPod backs up in iTunes I have set it to back up to the computer as iCloud isn't storing anything despite the notes, mail, calendars etc. all being turned on.
My first question is) where is the backup located on the computer, in the sense that when I restore the iPod, how do I relocate everything
Second question) will my notes, calendar dates and photos all be backed up?
Thank you in advance for any replies, I really appreciate it!

    Hi Drew!
    Thanks for your reply.
I'm using iTunes with the PC - Windows 7 to be precise.
It's just a worry when restoring your iPod, I don't want to lose all my photos and notes, but then again I find it frustrating how iTunes updates cause mine to crash on occasion taking all my music with it.
When I sign in to iCloud (just created the account the other day) I have no notes or photos on my account?
Sync is different to backup, but iTunes does them both at the same time.
You can backup the device to iCloud but still have no notes visible in iCloud.
Personally I would backup to iCloud, then connect to iTunes & backup to iTunes. In iTunes preferences select devices & right click to create an 'archive' of the backup. That will mean that backup is preserved when you next backup, otherwise the old backup is overwritten on next iTunes sync. You can also reveal the backup via a right click, however it is pointless since the files are not easily readable.
Having an iCloud & iTunes backup should help if the device loses it's files for whatever reason. NOTE: you can only use one backup type, but iCloud backups should remain on the server when you swap to iTunes backups.
This may be different on Windows, so you will need to follow the info in the links IIaass posted.

  • How come I can not delete photos in iPhoto?

Why can I not delete photos in the iPad or iPhone.  A few photos allow it but most don't.  Also, how to copy a photo to photo stream

you can't delete photos that were synced to an IOS devic- apple imposed limitation, you can not delete photos from photostream - thanks again apple, maybe by IOS 6 we will be able to manage our own photos & videos!
the work around i found if you want to transfer a photo or two at a time (emailing to yourself) is to batch upload photos using an app called "droptoroll" works great and is free, but no video support. puts the photos into the camera roll folder so you may delete them as you want! sorry no help for photostream management - hear in the future apple will allow deletion of individual photos from the stream. Again another oversite by apple photostream does not support videos, mobile me did though

  • IOS 6, factory reset and the missing photos - where are they now?

I installed IOS6 then did a factory reset on my ipad, and afterwards all photos bar the seven in the photostream disappeared. They're still in the device somewhere as they're still taking up space under the 'Usage' section.
Anyone know how to recover them, or delete them entirely to free up that memory for other things? (All are backed up elsewhere so deletion is not a problem).

Have you been using your phone as recommended?  If so, you've been importing photos in your camera roll onto your computer for safe keeping.  Just as you would with a standalone digital camera.  Your photos would then reside safely on your computer for archival.
While camera roll photos ARE part of the backup, not everything always goes smoothly as you've seen, which is why the recommendation to import photos as soon as possible to your computer.
If you have a recent backup of your iPhone, you can restore and hopefully many of your photos will be on this backup.  Any photos or data added to your phone since this last backup are, of course, gone forever.

You can change the email address you use as your apple ID. this doesn't mean you have to delete the old email address as email.
When you delete an email from your device, it is only removed from the device, it does not delete your emails or the email account.

  • How to reset OSS Notes with Question mark status in SPAU

    Hi,
We are doing SPAU adjustments. In that under Note we have many OSS notes with status "Question Mark". We ran SAPRUPGM again. But still we have this question mark.
We realized some of the notes are not applicable and want to reset. But when I select the note and reset, it gives a pop up to confirm the reset. I select "reset" there. But instead of reseting it gives me a popup asking to download the OSS note. If I cancel it it goes back to the initial SPAU screen. Nothing done. If I okay it it tries downloading the note.
    How to solve this situation?
Can you also tell me if it is okay to leave the notes without resetting.
    Regards,

Appreciate the reply.  I of course did try to re-execute SAPRUPGM.  In background, it runs for 2 seconds and produces no log or spool.  When I run on-line, and un-tick the box for output log file, the resulting list shows these messages for the gree question mark notes.   These notes are no longer visible in SNOTE. Basically I'm stuck - with the green question mark, I don't know how to get rid of these Notes in SPAU.

  • How do I re-link missing photos

I recently had to rebuild my iMAC OS X 10.9.4  and I restored lightroom 5.5 from the Adobe download. I tried to restore the catalog and photos to their original location using my Time Machine backup.  When I open Lightroom I see the photos but they come up as missing.  How do I re-link the original photo to the catalog?  I am looking for a bulk method as I have over 2000 to relink.

Go to your Folders panel (LH side of Library). Do the folders have question marks on them?
If so, right click on the folder name and choose Find Missing Folder…
Point Lightroom to the correct folder.
All subfolders should be found at the same time and the images within relinked.
Depending upon your folder structure this can be one click on a top-level folder (if you have one) or many clicks on many like-level folders.

  • HT4236 how do i move (not delete) photos from my iphone to my mac?

I have way too many photos on my iPhone, but I don't want to lose them.  The help articles aren't exactly clear, but can anyone help me figure out how to move photos off my iPhone 5 and onto my Mac?  I know it's rudimentary, but I really appreciate your help!

Connect and select iPhone in Mac iPhoto sidebar under DEVICES, select photos then click Import Selected button.

  • How do I find my hidden/missing photos?

On my iPhone4 my Camera Roll is showing 925 photos, which I have recently backed up to my computer. However iTunes shows I have 2103 photos using 4.47 gb. On my phone under settings>general>usage>photos & camera it shows that I have used 4.6 gb. And on my phone under settings>general>about>photos it shows 2,065.
This is my 2nd iPhone, which replaced the 1st iPhone4 when it had a problem and stopped working.  I am missing a whole lot of pictures, and so the over 2000 number makes sense.  I just don't know how to find the hidden/missing photos.
Can anyone help me with this?

I think your numbers add up --- as follows:
iTunes says you have 2.103 photos.  I claim they consist of:
925 photos on your Camera Roll
178 photos in your Photo Library
1,000 photos in your Photo Stream
    2,103 total photos
If you're having trouble finding the Photo Stream photos, maybe this will help:

  • I still need help. i am technically challanged.  i up graded my phonr to a 5 s.  i backed up my phone on icloud.  i cAn not get my notes or photos.   it looks like the icloud email address is wrong. how can i change it or get my missing items

I need help. I am not good with technology. I upgraded phone today to 5 s I am missing notes and photos  it looks like the cloud address is not correct. Any suggestions

Have you forgotten your password? - if so, you have a problem if the email address has gone dead.
If you know your password, go to the iTunes Store, click on Account. log in and you can change the associated email address.
If you don't know your password, and have no email address, you are going to have problems because it's difficult to see how Apple are going to identify you as the authorised owner of the account. Contact iTunes Support: go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'. You will see a link to either 'Express Lane', which will guide you eventually to some contact options, or you may see a link to email them.

After synching, I updated to newer version of iTunes. I do not have contacts on my phone - but I have all the messages and photos there still. How do I find my missing contacts?

    Still no success.
My problem, in part, is that I have 2 iphones. I transferred one to another computer that now syncs with iCloud. The other phone I was updating today on my old computer. It was recognised by iTunes, and automatically synched. Then I updated it to a newer version of iTunes, and lost my contacts on that iPhone. I have trawled to Windows Contacts but to no avail.

There is no way to view your photos via iCloud.com. Videos are not uploaded.
Photo Stream merely "pushes" the photos to your other devices.

  • How can I restore to the Browser View of Book, several missing photo's?

Ten photos are missing from the Browser View of the Book. The photos show up in the Photo View and are checked as being used. They also show up in the working screen view of the book. All other photos in the book show up. Why are the 10 missing? How can I restore just those photos and not all photos for that book? What difference would it make in sending that book to the printer?

I'm not sure of your question
Are you saying that when you view the thumbnails of the book at the top or the screen that some pages do not show the photos even though they are in the book below?
If so that is a minor bug in iPhoto '09 - you can ignore it - it is just a display issue -- I forget exactly how but you can force a refresh of the book thumbnails - maybe double clicking on the book page - or maybe on the thumbnail
But in any case your book is fine (you should preview it before sending - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 )

  • How can I restore my old photos after a recovery if not backed up through itunes or icloud

Here's the story. I dropped my phone in a swimming pool. It did not start at first. I layed the phone in a bag of uncooked rice and after 5 days it seemed like it was going to startup again. However something was wrong with teh battery so we ordered a new battery. The phone started up with the new battery but it wanted to go into that recovery mode. I did go through the backup procedure in iTunes and then recovery. The phone is now starting up fine but it is blank from apps and photos like a new phone. I did not have any photos backed up over iCloud before this happened. However shouldn't the photos still be on teh memory card of the phone? I thought the recovery process just resets the phone to factory standard, not deleting my photos. How can I get my old photos out of the phone? They are not in the DCIM when I log on through Windows explorer as well.

What a crappy design. This is where Android is so much better. It seems to me like you have no control over your iPhone. It does whatever Apple has designed it to do without asking you first. On Android you can actually go in see all folders, document files, photo files etc and you have so much more control of everything. Apple s..cks!

  • Problems with "find nearby missing photos", not working like it should in LR4

After I imported photos into LR4 I decided to split the event within the same folder creating 2 subfolders and proceeded to move the files within the finder. Went to LR4 and synchronized the folder but it didn't fix the file location on the missing files. So I tried finding individual files and checked the "Find nearby missing photos" but this doesn't seem to work like it did in LR3, because it won't find any nearby missing files even though they are right there new to each other in the same folder.
I don't want to dremove them and re-import because I have added ratings and I fear I would loose this info if I did that...

Your assumption that you would loose your ratings and develop settings is correct, if you would re-import.
Reimporting is never a good idea.
For the rest you have two alternatives: either you reconnect one image after another, or you undo on OS level what you did in the first place, then execute the move inside LR.
Depending on how many images you moved this could actually be the fastest route out.
"Find nearby missing photos" did not work reliably for me either in LR3. I have never found out when it did and when not, so I have preferred to learn how to perform any such operation inside LR.
Another valid question is why you do not use collections for your desired split , and leave the folders as they were.
According to my prejudice MAC users would not be as conservative in sticking to folder structures as Windows users..;-))
Once you master LR folders could be very unimportant storage buckets, as every angle for organizing your images would be covered by (smart) collections and keywords and other metadata.
    Good luck, Cornelia
