How to reset PMU in Digital Audio G4?

Are there any procedures required other than powering down, disconnecting all leads, opening the case and pressing the PMU button (located on mobo with "S1" marked next to it ) ??
I can not find any tech articles on resetting the PMU on a Digital Audio G4 Power Mac despite doing numerous searches.
Thanks

Hello Murray and Thomas,
On my dual HD, dual boot DA, I had a similar problem following an unsuccessful attempt to install a flashed PC Geforce 3 video card.
Wouldn't boot in OSX at all, would boot in OS9 only if I unplugged the OSX(10.3) HD and set the startup disk from the OS9 install CD.
Reset the pmu, no help; repaired permissions, no help; ran disk first aid - DFA said fine; ran Disk Warrior - DW said fine; I could see all drives - I just couldn't boot. All I got was the Apple prohibitory sign - the "No Parking" sign.
Solution was tu reinstall OSX. Install went smoothly and have had no problems since.

  • How to reset the Reader Digital Book.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There are two different types of reset procedures you can do on your Reader Digital Book - soft and hard.
    Soft Reset
IMPORTANT: A soft reset can be performed anytime and will resolve most issues.
Locate the reset button access hole. It is labeled RESET and, depending on your model, can be found on the back or bottom of your Reader device.
PRS 500 NOTE: On the PRS-500 model, you must remove the soft cover to locate the rest button access hole.
Using a thin object such as a paper clip or stylus (included with touch models), press the RESET button.
The screen will not change after pressing the RESET button. You must now slide the POWER switch or press the POWER button (PRST1 only) to turn on the Reader device again.
    Hard Reset
WARNING: There is a risk of data loss. After doing a hard reset, you will need to restore your content. Your purchased books can be restored from your account at the Reader store.
    IMPORTANT:
You should only do a hard reset if necessary and as the last step for troubleshooting.
After you do a hard reset, your Reader device will need to be authorized again from your Reader store account.

  • AES Digital Audio input to a Dual G5

I need to input SDI digital video and AES digital audio into a Dual G5 Mac. I see that BlackMagic will do the digital video part for in and out but it seems to only output digital audio. How can I get AES digital audio into the Mac. Any suggestions would be great.
    Thanks

look for a used AJA I/O. firewire connect to your mac SD only supports embedded or AES.
The HD cards do both SD and HD the kona3 has a control panel that you tell it what you want, or FCP tells it what to do. once again embedded or AES. For analog you'll need an A>D D>A converter
Note that although the audio comes in embedded it is still a separate and editable element. also saves on wiring instead of AES 110ohm wire plus video it all comes down 1 wire. of course that means diddley if you're coming from an audio only device

  • How to connect a APExpress to a digital audio console

I have a Yamaha M7CL digital audio console that has an Ethernet connection. I want to control the desk wirelessly using the APExpress. I know how to do it with a Linksys or Netgear router. With those I need to plucg into one of the 4 LAN ports. Not the WAN. And it works great. Since the APEx has only one port (LAN or WAN?) How can I make it work. The console has Network settings that can be changed but I think my issue is that the port on the APE is looking for internet. I'm not interested in using this set up to surf the web I only trying to connect the 2 and wirelessly connect with my laptop. With all the different settings I have no idea where to begin. Can anyone give me a clue. Thanks.

Hello steviee7. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
In order for the AirPort Express Base Station's (AX) Ethernet port to perform as a "LAN" port so that the Yamaha can access the network/Internet, it would need to be reconfigured as one of the following:
For both the 802.11b/g and 802.11n versions of the AX:
o As as relay or remote base station in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS).
    For the 802.11n version only:
o As an extender of a wireless network created by another 802.11n AirPort or Time Capsule.
o As a wireless Ethernet bridge (ProxySTA).

  • How do i monitor/output digital/analogue audio while editing?

I just switched to the mac pro and am learning FCP. Now i am forced to monitor audio output through my headphones. I want to tie the audio into my studio monitors and also be able to send optical audio in to the mac pro from my main mixer, a Mackie 1404. Do i need a DAC(Benchmark), a optical I/O digital mixer or both or something else? My budget is upt to $1,000, but i would like to spend <$300.
In general, i am trying to figure out how to incorporate analog/digital audio/video in to my new editing system. Before this i was outputting analog video/audio in real time with a Velocity I/O card. I am now, obviously, converting to a new way of outputting my finished product and how to edit and work with the new Mac Pro.
I guess i could also consider using the firewire also, right? I haven't worked with a firewire based audio hardware unit, so any info on that appreciated as well.
Also, is the line out in the back of the Mac Pro mono or stereo? I appear to be getting a mono feed while monitoring clips i've shot.
While researching i might list here some things i have come across. Opinions on these appreciated:

  • Upgrading from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8  on my G4 Power Mac Digital audio-is it worth it and how do i find the 10.5.8

Hey Gang.   How's it been going?  I still have the same G4 Digital Audio which came used but with a clean OS, which I managed to up
grade to reach the 10.4.11.  Its works great and I love it.  I can only imagine using a real Mac Pro 2012.  The software is legacy and It will not support the QuarkExpress9 for example.  So what if I found and upgraded to the 10.5.8 or the max OS my G4 can handle?  Is it worth it?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Depends what part of 10.5 you think you need, but 10.5 does not support Classic Apps, requires 3 times the resources & space, is expensive, & slower than Tiger/10.4 even on a G5 Quad with 10 GB of RAM.
    I have run 10.5.8 on a DA/450 MHz/1GB, & it is possible.
    Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
        *  Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    minimum system requirements
        * 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
    Classic/OS9 Apps no longer supported.
Trouble is Apple no longer sells it, check eBay & such for the Retail version, not the Gray Discs...
    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=mac+os+x+leopard+retail+10.5
There are workarounds if the 867MHz CPU is the only hangup...

Digital audio input via mini jack/toslink from ADA converter, monitored via USB audio output to amplifier... is this do-able? I know digital audio input should be okay but how do I monitor it, apart from using the internal speakers?

You can output audio thru HDMI, with appropriate adapter.
You can use additional cheap external usb audio for monitoring.

  • How to use the Digital Audio in & out RCA jacks a6010n

On the lower right of the back of my Pavillion a6010n desktop, above the mouse and keboard connections and below the monitor connection are two RCA jacks labeled Digital Audio in and out.  The top one has an orange insulator and is labeled "out", and the lower one has a black insulator and is labeled "in".  I have been unable to find any information about these or how to use them.  Can anyone please tell me or direct me to information about this?  I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit and have added a Sound Blaster Audigy sound card which is cheap but has a better S/N ratio.  In Control Panel --> Sound the digital output for the sound card is listed but there is nothing about the Digital Audio jacks I would like to be able to use.  Thank you all.

Yes there is. I suggest trolling these boards for the 3rd party remote solutions that will free you to use the remote in ANY application like Winamp, Notepad, Windows Media Player, etc.
    Just my two opinionated cents...

  • GS60 digital audio - how is this used?

I have a GS60 and I would like to use the digital audio output to connect to a receiver.  This laptop has 2 audio jacks:
    - Microphone engraving, 3.5mm jack with mini toslink capability
    - Headphone engraving, 3.5mm jack, electrical only
I found some bad info saying to use a mini toslink cable to get digital OUT, but that seems to be for digital IN.  In the realtek control program, connecting the mini toslink cable to the microphone jack shows the microphone becoming connected and it is not possible to switch it to S/PDIF.  Connecting a regular electrical plug to the headphone jack does allow me to select from 3 options: Headphone out, Speaker out and S/PDIF.  Selecting S/PDIF I think might be what I'm supposed to do, but I tried this and had no luck with a 3.5mm <-> RCA cable.  It shows up as being connected in windows and I can see sound being sent to it (the green bars in control panel properties) though no sound from the receiver.
Has anyone gotten digital output from the realtek codec on this laptop, and if so how did you do it?  I'm not talking about using the HDMI port or an additional USB sound card - I'm trying to use the built in realtek codec, with either an optical or electrical cable.
    Thanks,
    Laszlo

Thank you for the reply.  I have seen those instructions but maybe GS60 is different?
The optical mini-toslink cable goes into the _microphone_ jack, the one closer to the USB port.  I think this is an input because I don't see a red light in the optical cable.  Plugging in either an electrical or optical cable into the microphone jack does not trigger the pop up in the Realtek program.
The headphone jack, the one closer to the user, will not accept a mini-toslink cable.  It's a different type of jack and the cable does not physically fit.  Plugging something into this one does present options between Headphone out, Speakers out and S/PDIF out.  I have tried to use this as an electrical digital out, by using a 3.5mm -> 2x RCA cable and connecting that to the digital input on my receiver, but I got no sound that way.
    So basically:
Mic jack - accepts mini toslink or regular 3.5mm electrical plug.  Does not let me switch the role of the jack.
Headphone jack - accepts only 3.5mm electrical plug.  Lets me switch to S/PDIF but doesn't seem to do anything.
Any ideas?  Could this be a mistake in the driver/software that can be hacked around somehow?  Am I doing it wrong?
    Thanks!

  • How to get the Mac Mini Digital Audio output at 192kHz?

I have a mid 2011 Mac Mini (and love it). According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4806, "The headphone / line output port accommodates digital optical audio output, analog audio output with a 24-bit, 44.1-192 kHz D/A converter, digital audio output up to 24-bit stereo and 44.1-192 kHz sampling rate and supporting encoded digital audio output (AC3 and DTS)."
So there is digital audio output to 192 kHz but how do you configure it to work? Using the Audio Midi Setup Utility, I can set the sample rate to 96000 Hz -- but it won't go higher to 192kHz. Anyone know how to do this?

That is in some ways confusing.  For the analog output, the
internal DAC can support 24 bit/192Khz audio data.  It does
require an application that has the capability of playing back
    such material.
The TOSLINK optical standard does not support this data rate.
It has nothing to do with the Mini, it is the standard itself.  The
TOSLINK optical spec is 96 kHz, 24 bit stereo (uncompressed).
The mini will however support multichannel, 24 bit, 192 kHz
(uncompressed) via the HDMI interface.  Also, again,
the playback software needs to support it.
Just as a final note, unless the source material has the
higher sample rate format, there is no benifit to outputing
at the higher sample rate, especially if the source some
lossy comporessed format (mp3, aac, Dollby and DTS
    non-HD formats).

  • Digital audio output - how?

I am new to Macs and the owner of a mini. I'm about to replace my stereo amp with an AV receiver so that I can use the mini as a media centre with a home theatre system. I want an AV receiver with a digital input as the mini has a combined analogue & digital output. My question is what type of digital lead to I need, are they standard and how do I tell the mini to provide a digital signal to the combined output socket rather than an analogue one? Or is it clever enough to work out what type of cable is attached?
    Thanks in advance
    Paul

I have my Mini connected to my A/v receiver using a digital TOSLINK to mini TOSLINK cable. It should have a mini jack connector on one end for the mini and a squareish connector on the other end for the receiver. The audio output jack on the Mac Mini can output both analog audio and digital. The digital input on my receiver uses a ADAT lightpipe connection on the other end, that looks like a square. These are standard cables and should not be that expensive. Here's an example of the type of cable:
    http://www.amazon.com/6ft-Toslink-Mini-Cable/dp/B000FMXKC8
You will also need to make some setting adjustments in you sound control panel and in the DVD player to select the correct digital audio output format. Good luck.

  • How to add SPDIF/ digital audio to HP Pavilion dv4??

Is this possible with having to get the HP Dock?? I don't need any of the connections on the HP Dock except for the SPDIF/ digital audio one. Is there another type of adapter I can purchase? Thanks.

I understand you want to know how to use your dolby audio.
Have you tried installing the newest audio driver found here?  The driver includes the dolby software and the IDT audio control panel should have separate adjustments available for Dolby.  With the driver installed, try opening the IDT audio control panel and verify if that functionality is present.
