  • How can I resize a photo in iPhoto without cropping it?

I am taking pictures on my iphone 4s and using iphoto to edit them on macbook pro.  I need to upload these photos at a size much smaller than what i am able to take with my phone.  The only way I see to adjust the size of a photo in iphoto is to crop it.  How can I resize without cropping?
    Thank you

It's an option in the Export menu.
File -> Export and under the Size option you can choose the maximum you prefer. Export that and upload from the desktop.

  • How do I resize photos in iPhoto using automator, I haven't been able to do

Hi all, was in Sydney and took over 200 pics there 8.0 megapixels each. it takes forever to send them via ichat and would like to downsize them to 5.1 or 5.0. how do i go about getting them all downsized?
    Thanks all

I'm guessing you don't intend to suddenly drop over 200 photos into an iChat session.
I think you might as well scale them down instead of re-compress them. Just decide how you want to use them. For example, if they will be used for your desktop background, then scale them down to the screen resolution. You can find those numbers in System Preferences in Displays. Actually, that's probably a good size overall. Though, keep in mind your screen size is probably widescreen, so you'll want to try it out with an image to decide whether to go with the height or width while keeping the proportion constant.
As for using iPhoto, if you have .Mac then you can share them pretty easily by photocasting them. You wouldn't really have to worry about scaling them down, however, it does offer you option to reduce the size when they are photocasted. I believe this keeps them the same size on your computer, but uploads them at the reduced size, so it'll be quicker to upload them and download by others while you keep the same quality on your computer. Just create an album and put a few photos in there that you want to share. Or select some photos and drag and drop them into the left side of albums until you see an outline around the whole left side, then a new album will be created when you drop them.
I suppose you could share all 200 or so photos, but since you mentioned iChat it sounds like you just want to share one or two at a time and say "Hey, look at this one!". Instead, you can say "Hey, have you seen my Sydney photocast lately? Did you see the last couple of pictures I added?". You can change the photos in the album or just keep adding more and it'll appear to automatically update on everybody else's computers, too. Though, I think it's nicer when they have iPhoto to subscribe to the photocast instead of using an RSS viewer, since they can do anything they want with the photo when they have it in iPhoto, such as making it their desktop background, emailing it, have it as part of a slideshow, send an iCard (with .Mac), order prints or a photo book, etc.
Of course, you could also send some of them to iWeb (which will offer to downsize them for you, about 800x600 for the largest I think), send them to Mail to email (which offers to three different size/quality levels while telling the total MB), and so forth all from iPhoto. In fact, if you actually dropped the pics into a new email message, Mail will have an option at the bottom of the message window to resize them in the same way before sending them.
When you send some photos to iWeb, you can choose to have a single page of photos or to have them added to a blog. You might do the latter with a few of the photos if you'd like to add a special description, since each photo will be given it's own page in the blog.
As Mike said, you can also simply have them scaled down by exporting them from iPhoto, available in the File menu once you've selected the photos. Though, you'd probably interact with them with the Finder at that point, such as drag and drop into a video chat in iChat or adding them to emails. You could re-import them to iPhoto and then decide whether to keep both copies, the higher quality originals or the scaled down versions. I believe iPhoto won't make you decide, so you'll have both in different rolls and can keep them separate or delete one set or the other.

How do I resize a picture in my iPhoto library to 100 pixels?

You do this on export from iPhoto.
File -> export and note the Size option. You can decide the pixel dimensions there.

  • How do I resize a photo in iphoto and keep it in iphoto library

So in windows I can resize a photo and leave it where it is.  Why can't I do this in iphoto?

So in windows I can resize a photo and leave it where it is.  Why can't I do this in iphoto?
iPhoto - either on your Mac or on IOS devices, is designed as an application with a lossless workflow. All adjustments and edits are guaranteed to be reversible. You will always be able to revert to the original  image. And that would be impossible, if iPhoto allowed you to clandestinely exchange the image file in the place where the photo is stored. iPhoto would not know how to undo the changes you did without using iPhoto to do them. If you do not need a digigal assets management program with a lossless workflow, don't use iPhoto - then you'd be better off with something like Picasa.

  • How to resize photos in iPhoto?

    Hi
I can seem to figure out how to resize my photos so I can send them via email or just make them smaller in general. Any suggestions?

What is your email client? If you use Mail, Eudora, Entourage or AOL then just select the photo you want to email and click on the Mail button. You'll be presented with a menu to choose the size of the file to attach to the email.
If you are using a web based email you'll have to export the files to the Desktop via the File->Export->File Export menu option where you'll be able to set the file size and quality level of the files.
See TD's treatis on file access on ways to access the photos for use outside of iPhoto.

  • Resizing an image in iPhoto - HOW?

iPhoto 09 is a pretty miserable application.
Does anyone know how to simply resize an image - to a specific size - without having to mail or upload it with iPhoto's best guess for the chosen output?

Selecting the CROP and CUSTOM constraint crops the image. I am NOT trying to CROP the image, just make the ENTIRE image smaller.
If you are not trying to Crop the image, why are you selecting Crop?
let's talk about storing and sorting by DIRECTORY. Date, Keyword, Title, Rating, Manual - WHAT? How about directory/folder?
You’re rather missing the entire point of iPhoto. The aim is to organise your Photos quite independent of the location of your files. It’s a key distinction, and if you’re not happy with it then iPhoto is not the app for you.
Once you import the files to iPhoto, forget about them. Use the iPhoto Window and therein you can do everything you need to do with your photos. Then, want to access the files:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • How do you resize the pixel count from 4000  to 1600 in iPhoto

In the Export Dialogue (File -> Export) note the options at Size. This will allow you to specify a maximum length or breadth for the shot.

  • In iPhoto how do I stop files from auto resizing as they import? I don't want my files reduced to 72. The option to choose size on the export menu not suitable for up sizing, as you can't restore the quality removed?

in iPhoto how do I stop files from auto resizing as they import? I don't want my files reduced to 72. The option to choose size on the export menu not suitable for up sizing, as you can't restore the quality removed.

Short answer: They are not resizing, there is no quality lost. The dpi is only set when you decide what size you're printing at
Longer answer:  Dpi means nothing in the digital world of your computer. There are no "inches" to have "dots per..." Size is measured in pixels. That's the same on your camera. It doesn't take 10 x 8 or 6 x 4 shots. It takes shots measured in megapixels. For instance 4,000 x 3,000 is a 12 megapixel camera.
Using that example, that shot from that camera has 12 million pixels. So that's how many "Dots" there are. To decide the ratio of dots per inch, you now need to decide the "inches" part. And that's printing. Print at 10 x 8 and the dpi will be 4,000/10 or about 400 dpi. At 6 x 4 then it's 4,000/6 or 660 dpi. Work the other way: Print at 300 dpi and the resulting image will be about 13 inches on the longer side.
So, your photo as a fixed number of pixels. Changing the dimensions of the print will vary the dpi, changing the dpi will vary the dimensions of the print.

  • How do you resize photos on a page of a book created in iPhoto '09?

How do you resize photos on a page of a book created in iPhoto '09? I can zoom in or out, but I can't figure out how to make a photo smaller. Is this just because I am working in a Contemporary book format, using a 2 photos per page layout? I'd like to work with maximum flexibility, like starting from the blank template in iWeb, where I can add any number of photos, text, and change all the sizes. Is this possible? Thanks.

How do you resize photos on a page of a book created in iPhoto '09? I can zoom in or out, but I can't figure out how to make a photo smaller.
You resize the photo by clicking on it and zooming
You can not resize the photo frame
Is this just because I am working in a Contemporary book format, using a 2 photos per page layout?
No they all work the same - see Liz Castro's page - http://www.lizcastro.com/iphotobookthemes/ - for a detailed description of iPhoto '08 layouts - all of those carry forward to iPhoto '09 plus there are new ones that she has not documented yet
I'd like to work with maximum flexibility, like starting from the blank template in iWeb, where I can add any number of photos, text, and change all the sizes. Is this possible?
Not in iWeb but you can do pages in any page layout program (word, pagemaker, pages, etc) and print to PDF using the send PDF to iPhoto option to create a totally custom page - see Old Toad's tutorial #19 - http://web.mac.com/toad.hall/OldToadsTutorials/No._19.html - for directions

  • How can I resize image in iPhoto?

Question just like the topic states. Also when editing an image; contrast/brightness etc - how can I make sure that the original stays intact?

It depends on what you want to do with the photo. If you're resizing for printing just go into the Edit mode and crop using the appropriate Constrain selection. iPhoto will automatically save a copy of the original file so you can Revert to Original any time you'd like. If you want to resize for emailing just click on the Mail button and you'll be given the opportunity to select the size you want to sen with the email. The original is not changed in any way.
Any edit of a photo, crop, brightness, redeye, etc., will cause iPhoto to save a copy of the original file as I stated above.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

  • How do I resize/change resolution of photos from iPhoto when used in iWeb

I am shooting with a 7.1 Mega Pixel Canon to get enough quality to crop and print high quality pictures of my baby daughter and her adventures in the world.
I have a website up made with iWeb, but when I select the photos in iPhoto and go Share / Sent to iWeb / photo page - I get a nice layout of the photos but at full resolution when the thumbnails are selected or the slide show is run. Although nice and sharp, this is a pain for anyone looking at the site even with high speed access.
There must be some way to resize photos, but I have yet to figure that out with iPhoto, let alone iWeb. And as one photo at a time is a pain, there must also be a way to rescale a whole selection of photos that I want to use for a page - say her Disneyworld trip. I can't be the first person to run into this, but I have not found anything out there to point me in the right direction.
Ideally I wold like to create a resized set from the originals - so I can still print and crop in high qulity. I also am not really sure what resolution would be best or easy viewing and download - that's probably subjective. 1200x800 comes to mind but I am open to suggestions.
Perhaps resize is not the right term - changing resolution is probably more accurate, but there too I have not found an answer.
    Appreciate the help and suggestions.

    dan28088,
Tried your site on two different browsers, using highspeed broadband; the site is, indeed, extaordinarily slow. We can dissect the thing down to the last file, but it won't change anything, as far as I can see. If it were me, I would host the site on another server. The .Mac servers are just plain slow, period. I think that is the primary problem here. Just my opinion, others may disagree.
I created a new site this past weekend for a new project, and published it to .Mac. It contains a lot of jpeg files in slideshows (along with the usual png suspects!) . After reviewing it a few times, and not being satisfied with page-load speeds, I published to a folder and uploaded the site to space on 1&1 WebHosting.
The page-load speeds TRIPLED. That's right...3X as fast page-load speeds. Even large, linked to files, 3MB+, load within a reasonable amount of time. (seconds)
I still will keep a .Mac subscription, as I like and use all of the other features of the iDisk. But for serious website hosting, I think you will be better 'served' with a remote host. Your money with .Mac is certainly not wasted; the syncing services and other features of iDisk space that integrate with your local files are well worth the yearly fee. Again, only one user's opinion, based on experience.

  • How do I resize a photo in iPhoto to downsize it

If I can downsize the photos in iPhoto, then I can save a batch of them on the FlashDrive. I don't see a method for downsizing or resizing them.

I am used to using Photoshop to reduce the pixels and image size. Does Iphoto have this option or just large, small etc. If the latter does anybody know what the image size is for small? I need to reduce a series of photos to 120x100 to fit into a website.
