How To Resore iweb Site?

The hard drive in my ibook crashed and needed to be replaced. I used backup on .mac and did a full back up and I have the folder with my iweb site backed up. My problem is, how do I get it back into iweb? My site works fine when I go to it on the web, but I can't get it to come up in iweb so that I can edit it. Does anyone know how I can restore it back into iweb?
Thanks, Ken
I-Book G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over.
Did you backup your Home folder from before? You might luck out and still have your domain.sites file.

  • How to transfer iWeb site to another Mac in Lion

Does anyone know how I can move my iWeb site from my Macbook Pro to my iMac.  I've transfered the files, but iWeb doesn't see the data.  I've copied the data to the iWeb folder in my User Library thinking that would help as I've read others have done in Snow Leopard.  This doesn't seem to work in Lion.  thanks for the help.  I'm using iLife 11

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • How to create iWEB site from OLD iWEB site? (Hosted)

Okay, so the domain is corrupt.
I have the site hosted and downloaded it via FTP, wondering two things, well one really, is there a way to rebuild the site since I have all the folders, assets, html pages, and images? If so, how?
I suppose I can rebuild it page by page but want to change the theme and since I have the folders, was wondering if there was a way I can take the downloaded pages and somehow drag them to iWEB or some other MAC WEB program.
Please advise, also, any other cool programs for iWEB or web design similar to Pulp Motion, Banner Zest, and how to make a site use flash without flash?
Am also curious what else there is out there so the site doesn't look so iWeb and have the ability to change the fonts on say, WELCOME< ABOUT, HOME, and also use flash.
Have used dream weaver, not to inspiring albeit the standard.
    Thanks

If you decide to rebuild with iWeb Chapter 2.3 of this iWeb FAQ site has tips on using some of the published files in the reconstruction of the site.

  • How to move iWeb site with missing Domain.sites file

I've been asked to host a friend's iWeb site now that MobileMe is no longer an option.  The problem is that the MacBook it was created with is long gone and the only original files remaining are the image files for the site. No Domain.sites file.  They are also not sure which version of iWeb was used, if that even matters.  Initially I was thinking we could just access the existing site using ftp and go from there - upload the site to my hosting account and use Dreamweaver to maintain it, but everything I've read seems to point to 'Not gonna happen that way'.
Is there a way to transfer an existing iWeb site hosted on MobileMe to a new hosting account and be able to work on it with another editor, all the while not having the original Domain.sites(2) file?
    Thanks much,
    Mark

Quite a few people are moving to other drag and drop style editors like Sandvox and RapidWeaver although they aren't really any better - just more expensive.
I advise people not to use iWeb for new sites and just to keep it going to update existing ones until they are defunct or rebuilt some other way.
I quit using iWeb about a year ago due to the fact that it, and similar apps, can't create responsive designs for mobile devices although I did figure out a stop gap design for iPhones...

Is it possible/ easy to import the iweb domain file

    deeper knowledge of go live?
You can't use the iWeb Domain file with anything but iWeb.
You can probably edit published iWeb sites with GoLive and modify and save them. Whether that would make your site more acceptable to IE I have no idea. I don't think GoLive is a simple program. You can probably download a trial from Adobe and play with it and ask questions on the Adobe forums.

  • How are non iWeb sites able to use non "web-safe fonts?

I know there is a list of "x" number of "web-safe fonts" that we should stick to. However, we all see incredible fonts all over the internet on non iWeb sites.
What is it that makes the non-safe fonts work for them. Is there anything we can do to make those fun fonts work for us? I don't have specific examples (sorry). . .just looking for a general answer
    Thanks,

The type of file compression to use for web pages is dictated by the number of colors required. Since graphics slow down a web site, your mission is to get the best overall appearance, with the smallest file sizes. The most popular forms of graphic compression are .gif and .jpg
.gif files are limited to 256 colors which work very well for non-photo types of graphics (logo's, etc) and .gif also supports transparency, where you can actually make a graphic appear to be 'cut-out' against a different color background. Gradients do not work well with .gif files.
.jpg files are more suitable for photo's due to the thousands or even millions of shades of colors in skin tones, vegetation, whatever. Jpg's do not support transparency or animation.
Photoshop Elements would be a very good program to pick as an overall web and photo retouching program. The "Save For Web" feature is sweet. You can even continue to use iPhoto to manage your photo library and choose a program like Photoshop as an 'External Editor' to actually work on the pictures.
Adobe Illustrator is probably not where you want to start. There is a learning curve to work with shapes (vectors) instead of actual dots on a page, and it's native format is not compatible with any web browsers. It's really not suitable for photo's at all. It is very powerful when working with commercial graphics that need to be sharp at all sizes, but probably more than you want to deal with.

  • Anyone know how to publish iWeb site to .mac groups?

    Hi all
This is my first message here... So... Be patient plz
I'm afraid that I know the answer, but I hope that someone can tell me(us) more...
Is it true that it is NOT possible to publish a site from iWeb to a .mac group?
    Why this feature is missing???
I've heard that this was present in iWeb 07. Is it true?
Anyone knows if it will be available in a future patch??
sigh, I've just buyed a .mac accounts to publish project for private groups... :(((
Thanks to all for support. Excuse me for my bad English

    It's Sad.
Groups are, in my opinion, the best feature of .mac account.
Project, club, private site of people... great things.
It's why I have payed for this account.
But if you can't use the integration of mac to build up information
it's very useless and to me it doesn't appear too professional
from apple to cut off this feature.
My fault, I haven't seen this particular information.
    Anyway thanks for the information
I hope apple will reintegrate this feature

  • HOW TO SEE iWEB SITE PAGES FROM MULTIPLE COMPUTERS

Is there any way I can sync my iWEB so that the pages so that what I start at work can be finished on my home computer?

Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html
files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is
    stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb
    folder.
Actually, now with iWeb having been updated a couple times.... you can have your Domain.sites file anywhere on your harddrive. I am working on several websites, none of which go to dotMac. I set up a project folder for each client, and his/her Domain.sites file is in that folder. All folders are kept in a WIPs folder, (Work In Progress), on my desktop.

  • Cannot modify iWeb site on different computer

Followed instructions on how to modify iWeb site on a different computer (went into the library->application support->iWeb and copied the "domain" file to the different computer. Opened iWeb = generic site instead of site we created. Double-clicked filename in list = box popped up asking me if I wanted to create a new domain or open an existing one, although it would not let me select the newly copied file from the list (grayed out).
    Any solutions?

I haven't a second computer, but I have multiple users on my computer. They are all me, but my mac doesn't know that.
I copied a domain file to another user account.
As the other user, i double-clicked it to open the file, I could publish (to a folder) but I couldn't save the changes.
It simply is a matter of permissions.
Select the domain file in the Finder and type Cmd-I(nfo). In the info panel change the owner of the file.
    But that is not enough.
The content of the file still has the previous owner's permission set.
Control-Click/Right-click the domain file and choose 'Show package content'.
Display the opended folder in list view and expand all folders. Do that by typing Cmd-A (Select all) and then press Cmd-rightarrow key to expnad the folders.
Do select all again and repeat expand, until the file count stays the same.
Do select all again and type Cmd-Alt-I(nfo) (Alt is also known as Option).
Change the owner to the current user and select read/write from the menu.
The domain file is now yours.

  • How do I stop my iWeb site folder name from showing in the URL?

I have looked through the forum but cannot find exactly what I need.
I am sure there is a way to stop this from happening but I do not want my iWeb site name to show in the URL. Anyone else had this problem that can spread some light on the situation?
Here is how it is showing:

I want to to just be www.ilovehopetown.com and then the page name.

Two options you could try are naming your site the same as the default folder used by your sever (e.g. public_http or whatever) or forwarding www.myname.com to www.myname.com/sitename

  • How to edit the same iWeb site on 2 different Macs?

How can I edit the same iWeb site on 2 different Macs? I know we create a folder with the files, but when copying that to Mac2, iWeb on Mac2 doesn't see that folder - I can't see what the linkage is between the app's interface and the folder of site files....

The answer is Domain.sites (extension hidden by default). You'll find this on the Mac you used to create the site at Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/iWeb. Copy that file to removable media and drag it to the same location on the other Mac. Launch iWeb and you'll see the site structure in the Site Organizer.
Once you keep the Domain package in sync between the two machines everything will work smoothly no matter which you use. There's a neat tip here which may help in this respect, but you use whatever strategy you prefer:

  • How can I transfer JUST ONE IWeb site to another computer?

I am new to making IWeb sites and am now making them for
other people. I have about 10 sites in my IWeb folder and need to
be able to give a person's site to them.
I need to be able to transfer JUST ONE site to another computer.
Right now, I am only able to transfer ALL the sites I have made to
another mac and then, it wipes out all their sites! How can I prevent
the ultimate wipe out of all their iweb sites yet give them JUST ONE
    of mine?
    thank you in advance,
    Beth http://www.yourzensite.com

First, read Wyodor's post about changing the publishing settings HERE.
You can create the extra folders in Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb or, as I do, in a folder named iWeb in the Home folder.
Create a folder for each website, give it a suitable name and paste the Domain.sites2 file with all the websites into each.
Open each one in turn, double click the Domain.sites2 file to launch it in iWeb, delete all the sites except the one whose name is the same as the folder name, save and quit.
Now you can launch any site individually in iWeb and sent a copy of the appropriate folder to the client.

  • How do you hyperlink a rollover to another page from within your iweb site?

Ive made a bunch of rollovers for my iweb navigation bar. If youve created a rollover you know you have to link the images to a image hosting site. here as you would just normally drag and drop a image from your desk top. Because of the way iweb works, if you are using images from a image hosting sit, you can no longer adjust the characteristics of the images i.e. colors, size, and in this case the hyperlink. More specifically you cant change the hyperlink to a page within the iweb site.
So the problem im trying to figure out is how to link the rollover to a page within my iweb site.
now you can actually change the hyperlink of the rollover. however you must do this by adjusting the html within the snippet of the rollover. The problem i found is that iweb doesnt creat sub domains for each page. a entire iweb site with multible pages uses only one domain which is the homepage. so i cant just type a subdomain of another page into the snippet hyperlink because the subdomain doesnt exist.
here is the link to my site. youll notice i did figure out a work around with the "contact us" button but its a huge pain in the butt. i had to create a new domain and a new site then attach the referal index.html to that new domain. todo this for every single button is very difficult.
    http://springgardenranch.tk
so i guess the bigger question is, is there a easier way to do this?
perhaps if there was a way to create a subdomains like springgardenranch.tk/contactus withing iweb for each page. but i dont even know if thats possible.
    thanks for you help.

Because of the way iweb works, if you are using images from a image hosting sit, you can no longer adjust the characteristics of the images i.e. colors, size, and in this case the hyperlink.
Then use  your own images. Then you can create them the way you want.
    Here's how I do it :
    http://cafenoir.atspace.com/Hover/
And here's the menu in an iWeb page :
    http://cafenoir.atspace.com/HNBF/
And here you can learn how to do it. Follow the links to the How-To pages.
    http://cafenoir.atspace.com/
You may have to learn HTML. CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, DOM and how iweb creates its webpages.

  • How do I fix an error "4652747.png" when publishing my iWeb site to iMac?

Every time I try to publish my iWeb site to .Mac I get an error message that says there's an error in " ...files/ca4652747.png." I know this is an image file, but when i search for it on my hard drive it shows a blank image. I've tried deleting the file from the hard drive but when I re-publish, a second file "c00ff001c.png" on a different web page shows the same error. I can't figure out how to fix these errors. It publishes to a folder, or so it says, but i don't know how to check that. I am supposed to publish the entire site at the end of this week and have all the work done but can't get past this point. Can anyone help me? I'm a new mac user and this is my first shot at web design, so I've probably missed something obvious, but would appreciate any help.

    k, try this:
backup your domain file! delete the one in the folder BUT HAVE A COPY OF IT SOMEWHERE ELSE. Then open iWeb, create something save it and publish it!
now go to your backuped file, make one more backup!!!!
move one of the backuped files into the Users/username/bblablabla folder and open iWeb. try publish all and see if it works!
    max
