How to resoved if "your iphone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable"?
i was about to update my iphone 3GS to itunes. For some reason i removed my phone while updating.
afterwards when i was about to open it first will appear the language selection then country or region
then Choose network last "activitating your phone" after that the message will appear that "your iphone could not be activated beacause activation server is not available " same in wi-fi and itunes.
If you tried again after an interval and same message appeared =>
Your iPhone was unlocked unofficially. Update has locked it again to the Original Carrier. Insert their SIM to proceed ahead.

i live in iran. this 3gs was a gift from america .. it contains NOTHING. i can do nothing with it. it cannot be updated cuz the version is low. i dunno what t do please help.Possible causes:
1. Your antivirus is blocking access to gs.apple.com.
2. Your phone is jailbroken.
3. Your computer has been used at some time in the past to jaibreak some iOS device (not necessarily the phone with the problem), and its network database was corrupted by the hacking software that was used.
4. Apple's activation servers are down (very rare, and never for more than an hour or so).
5. The phone was reported stolen. If it was it can never be activated again.
For 1. try disabling your antivirus.
For 2. & 3. you need to go somewhere other than an apple forum for help. Although you can try deleting lines containing gs.apple.com from your "hosts" file on your computer. -

I just did a DFU restore and tried to activate the new phone again over WiFi and it's worked now.
To be completely sure whether it was the DFU restore or not I've just tried to activate the old phone (also a 4S, exactly the same model) whilst plugged into iTunes.
That failed.
So I tried again with the old non-DFU'd 4S over WiFi without the cable (to remove itunes/computer/internal networking from the equation) and that also failed.
I'd say it's fair to assume that the DFU at least helped in this case - I also noticed that the graphics when you're selecting the language/location were slightly different (showed a world map) after the DFU. -

I've tried to intall ios 7 but on the activation part on the phone i keep getting a message saying 'your iphone could not be activated becayse rge activation server cannot be researched. However when i plug my phone into the computer itunes has an error message saying 'We could not complete your itunes store request. The network connection was rese. unfortunately no, a million people are attempting to update their phones right now, and thus activate them. Patience will have to suffice.
For the future, I would recommend not updating essential work devices on the launch day -
2 errors: "Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable" and the sim says "searching" while iTunes says there is "No Sim installed" - but of course, there is! Any help please??

Thank you for the note - I have seen similar replies on other posting errors and I see how that could make sense. The thing is, my iPhone is not jailbroken - it is from an authorized distributor. However, when I told them about the "no service" problem on the sim, they were unable to assist. Then my phone messaged that an itunes restore was required - so I did that, several times, to the error message now noted on my post. I wonder if there is some other way to over-write this message? Thanks very much. -

i bought an iphone 3g but not in a shop and when i turn it on it tells me your iphone could not be activated because the activation server is unavailable what can i do to just have it working legit ?? , please anyone that could help me out
Generally, that means the phone has been jailbroken (hacked). You can try restoring it as new using iTunes. Beyond that, there's really nothing we can advise as jailbroken phones can't be supported on these forums.

I previosly had some issues with my iphone because i got it second hand from my auntie in america and when i restored it, it got locked to my mum took it to get unlocked and im pretty sure they did it unoficialy. So a few days ago i tried to upgrade it and now my iPhone says 'your iPhone could not be activated because the server is currently unavailible...' and when i go on itunes it says i have no sim card in it but i do (an o2 but then i got an AT&T one and it still says that) what should i do? (and please dont say buy a new one or there's nothing you can do)
Your phone is locked to a carrier (most likely to AT&T). Updating the iOS usually removes the unlock (hacked one) and the phone gets locked to the carrier it was originally locked to. Contact your carrier (AT&T) who is solely authorized to unlock the phone.

Where exactly did you get this phone?
Do you have a SIM in the phone?
There are 2 primary causes for this.
Either you don't have a SIM in the phone, which is REQUIRED to activate it, or the phone was hacked to unlock it. -
