How to respond to Verison sharing my private calls with the government?

Numerous news accounts on Broadcast television, cable news, the radio, and newspapers are reporting that Verizon releases ALL my Verizon business activity--phone call information and content, emails sent through Verizon Wireless Broadband, etc.--with the federal government as "Standard Operating Procedure".  I have a philosophical problem with supporting Soviet Union-style totalitarianism that spits in the face of Democracy, the United States Constitution, and everything that makes America a Great Nation.  Please provide me with the instructions I need to change my service to a non-Verizon service provider.

It gets worse...I just had my phone service interrupted and could not make an outgoing call until I made an immediate payment. There was a large roaming usage (above normal) and I had text and voice mail asking to call. When I called the prompts took me to an automated version of "pay me now or you cannot use your phone". I continued to push prompts until a real person came on, who then proceeded to want my payment then and there. My bill is and was not due, nor overdue and has never been such for 30 years! I do international travel and from time to time some countries have extremely high roaming  charges and I knew that going in. I would have paid promptly when the paper bill came in just as I have always done. Besides, my app is available for me to monitor usage, which I do...but Verizon has taken it upon themselves to take care of me and cut off my outgoing call capability before I "stiff" them....I guess that is their basis for changing the game without notifying their loyal customers. In the meantime what if I had to call 911 or some other emergency service. I would have had to pay first! This is the type of  "control" to the extent which our forefathers must have had that sparked the American Revolution.
