How to restart airport extreme via SNMP, with snmpwalk for example ? I can get a lot of information from base station with snmpwalk and airport-mib but still mystery what to poke when I want reboot base station over network.

You are likely forgetting a step.
Open AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon
Click Edit in the small window that appears
Now click the Base Station menu.....top of the screen....not the Base Station "tab" in the center of the screen
Click Restart

How to restart base station from airport utility? I used to be able to do it remotely
I currently use a Mac Pro 10.8.4 and have a time machine for wireless 6.3 (630.34). Sometimes I cannot connect to the internet and use network preferences to diagnose the issue. This results in being told to restart the wireless. The airport utility includes the drop down option of restarting but is not clickable so I can't choose it.
With my prior macbook and same time capsule, etc  if i had problems connecting to the internet I would run network diagnostics to help out. This included clicking on the airport utility ---> base station --> restart. This worked most of the time.
Bottom line, is there something I am missing in not being able to restart the wi-fi remotely? ]
    Thanks in advance

  • Trying to connect an XBOX 360 to my airport base station via  ethernet cabl

    Hello,
I have the older snow airport base station and was trying to connect my xbox 360 to it via an ethernet port. There are only 2 ethernet ports on the snow base station. one is being used by the cable coming from my dsl modem. the other free port i tried plugging into my xbox 360 to no avail. the xbox cant get an ip address. the open ethernet port on the base station is labeled with the circle logo. the one being used by my dsl modem has the two outer pointing arrows. I turned off the airport to my macbook and tried to connect my macbook to that port my xbox was in and it would not connect to the net either. Is it possible, i have the ports backwards. my wireless internet for all 3 mac computers works fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
    Thanks!!!
    Vinny

Yes, you have the ports connected backwards.
The WAN port is labelled with the "circle of dots" icon, and must be connected to your DSL modem.
The LAN port is labelled with the "double-headed arrow" icon, and that is where you connect ethernet cabled devices on your LAN.
See Apple's article AirPort Base Station: About the WAN and LAN Ports
What is surprising is that you haven't previously run into all sorts of problems with your existing setup. Once you cable things properly, you will likely have to power down your DSL modem and Base Station for a while (sometimes just an instant, sometimes overnight). After waiting, plug the modem into power and wait a minute. Then plug the base station into power and wait for it to restart.

  • Associated stations via SNMP on 1100.

I've managed to retrieve the MAC address, Client Device Type and AID for each associated station on the Aironet 1100 using the cDot11ClientConfigInfoTable.
However, despite dumping the whole MIB from iso.org down, I can not find the StationName, IPv4 address or VLAN ID for each association.
This information does show up in the web-based interface so it must be modelled somewhere. Anyone know if it is available via SNMP? If so, where?
(Note the Aironet 1100 is IOS-based so the AWCVX MIBS are not supported.)
    Thanks in advance
    Dave

    Thanks for replying.
Unfortunately the dot1dTpFdbTable (which contains dot1dTpFdbStatus you mentioned) is completely empty even though there are clients currently associated.
It makes sense to me that the forwarding table for a transparent bridge would contain an entry for each associated client. Maybe this is a bug in the IOS version I'm running: 12.2(8)JA. This is listed as an 'early deployment release' but I've no idea when the next release is due.
The associated clients are all using VLANs so I tried dumping the Q-BRIDGE MIB too but without success.

  • How many airport base station can you have at one time?

I currently have a abse and a abs dual ethernet. My set up is the cable is connected to the abse sending out g. The abs is daisy chain and sending out b. My c2d machine is communicating with the abse using g and my old G4 is communicating with the abs using b. I am doing this because I do not want the abse to communicate at b. When I go out to get the new n abse will I be able to add on to this or will I be or am I already wasting time and money. I just do not want any abs to downgrade to b. Any ideas or suggestions will be great.

If you add the new AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) to your current configuration, you can set it up so that you have three separate (b/g/n) wireless networks. Each would have it's own Network Name (SSID) and set to only operate at their own specific 802.11 standard. To work the Base Station connected to the Internet source would be set up as a router, and the others in "bridge" mode.
Now, if you attempt to connect a non-n wireless client to the "n" network, it will degrade the performance a bit, but not down to either "g" or "b" level. This would be true of the "g" network as well.

  • How to discover lwapp hostname via snmp virtual WLC

    Hi there,
we recently installed a virtual WLC and configured some LWAPP access points. I want to monitor the status of the WLC and also of the access points. Using the airespace mib or lwap-ap mib I can monitor operational status and the number of associated clients. The only problem I have at the moment is that I can't recover the hostname, mac address or ip address to identify the access point. Does anybody knows which mib or oid to use to identify the access point?

  • How to selct base station to connect

I have an Airport TC connected to the internet in the office.
I have an older Airport Extreme in the Family room with some non-wireless equipment plugged in.
I have an iMac (802.11n) that sits between them, but closer to the Extreme.
I also have a Airport Express to extend the network to the front of the house.
I want the iMac to connect directly to the TC instead of going through the Extreme.
Is it possible or will it connect to the Extreme because it's a stronger signal?
    Regards,
    Brett

Unfortunately, Apple does not provide a means for Macs to designate which device to which they connect. The iMac will always connect to what it feels is the strongest signal.

  • How to get this Airport Extreme base station to produce a wireless network?

I had this Airport Extreme base station working fine at the house that I moved from a couple of days ago.
After my house move, however, it seems that the AE base station isn't producing a wireless network. My wireless laptop isn't detecting a wireless network. Also, the left hand side light on the AE base station is not lit.
The AE base station was softly cushioned during house the move.
    Regarding configuration:
My non-wireless iMac (running 10.3.9) connects to the AE base station via an ethernet cable.
Before my house-move, I regularly connected wirelessly via the AE base station from a couple of wireless-equipped laptop computers.
I was using AE software version 5.6. (In desperation, I have just updated to version 5.7 - but that hasn't improved or changed situation.)
At the new house, I found that I had to reset the AE base station back to factory settings before I could successfully connect to the internet through the AE base station from the (non-wireless) iMac.
Since resetting the AE base station at the new house, I can also print via a USB printer that's plugged into the AE base station.
I just cannot pick up any sign of a wireless network from the AE base station.
G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Problem started while I had Airport Extreme software v5.6. No improvement/change after v5.7 update.

Sorry for my delay in closing this issue.
I got the wireless network running again - though I'm not sure which of a "litany" of separate actions (which I gleaned from dialogs in several similar postings for similar issues to mine) was the solution. I suspect it was one of the following two actions, which have stuck in memory:
    1) I relocated a nearby cordless phone cradle/charger/base-station from alongside the Airport Extreme base station to about seven feet (two meters) away. However, the cordless phone is about eight years old, and I believe its radio frequency is far out of the range that I have read (in similar postings) can interfere with the Airport Extreme base station.
    2) I re-set the Airport Extreme base station, (a) by depressing the tiny reset button at the rear of the base station for more than 5 seconds (until the led started blinking), (b) from Utilities/AirPort Admin Utility/Configure/Restart. However, I had reset the Airport Extreme base station those ways previously without that restoring the wireless network. Also, I didn't record the sequence of the multiple resets and the configurations at the times of the resets.

  • Airport Extreme Base Station to Express via Ethernet?

I have both a new Extreme (n) and Express (n) and am trying to set up a network between two buildings. I have been successful with the wireless network, yet the wireless signal between buildings is not strong enough for streaming video. The current configuration is the Extreme in one building connected to the cable modem. This is where the strongest signal is found. The express is in the main house and the signal is much weaker.
My question: If I run an ethernet wire from one building to the next, can I connect these two Airport devices via ethernet to strengthen the signal? How would I configure this in the Airport Utility?
I made an attempt to plug the ethernet into both and the Utility stopped seeing either device and I lost the internet connection.
I may not understand the way these devices communicate with each other. If anyone can point me in the direction of a solution I would be grateful. My goal is to have a signal strength strong enough to stream Netflix videos in the house with the Express. I am thinking that if the Express is wired to the base station via ethernet then the wireless signal from the Express would be sufficient to stream wirelessly to a new Macbook... Possible?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

A couple of questions. First, at AirPort>Wireless>Wireless Mode should the selection be "Join a wireless network" or "Off"? I currently have Join a the wireless network selected.
For both base stations, Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network.
When I am at Internet>Internet Connection the screen is muted, which means I can't change anything. The two items on the page say "Connect Using: Wireless Network" and " "Connection Sharing: Off (Bridge Mode)" - as you mentioned. This is correct, right?
For both AirPorts, Connect Using = Ethernet; For the AEBSn, Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address; For the AXn, Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
The Extreme (connected to modem) and Express (ethernet cable will connect to port on Extreme) have different names. And each is configured to participate in the same network.
    Both would be correct.

  • Can't find my printer from my MacBookPro. Canon MX870 connected via ethernet to my Airport Base station

I have a MacBookPro3,1. My Canon MX870 is connected to my Airport base station via ethernet. It was working fine until two days ago. I restarted my computer, the printer and the airport and router. Reinstalled the driver for the printer and even reset the airport. Best I can tell it's something with my MacBook. My girlfriend was over yestrday and she has a newer MacBookPro and I can find my printer fine on her MacBookPro but I can't find it at all on mine. I'm at a complete loss. Any thoughts or insight would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder if one of the “printing” plists has become corrupted. Find your preferences file in the library under your user name. Scroll down to the series of printer plists starting with “com.apple.print“. There are a series of them, even one specifically for the mx 870. You can delete a plist with relative impunity as they are rebuilt when you restart your MBP. I would delete 1st the one that has 870 in the name, put it in the trash, but don’t empty the trash,  and restart. If that doesn’t solve the problem you can delete others- like the “print add“ plist or print center plist. Restart after each deletion and see if that solves the problem. You can always drag  the deleted plists out of the trash  and put them back where they came from as long as you don’t empty the trash.
    Good Luck!

  • Mac ethernet base station modem/dial up  -- how to say "Connect"?

I'm sure I've read somewhere, possibly in the extreme base station manual, that it's possible to connect a computer to the internet that's connected to the base station via Ethernet using the base station's modem. That is:
mac without AP card > ethernet > extreme base station > modem/dial up > the internet
I've set up the base station using the Setup Assistant using the computer that doesn't have an AP card, so therefore via Ethernet, successfully, setting up the dial up aspect OK: With another Mac that has an AP card, in the AP status menu there's "Connect" and that works. But how can I connect from the Mac without an AP card over Ethernet using the dial up modem? There's nowhere to say "Connect".
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    John

Thanks for that. Yes that does it. I take it there is no Apple software (especially a status menu icon) way to do it then? Not supported by Apple that is. Oh well this is a temperory thing connecting using the modem so not worth worrying about too much I suppose.
    Thanks.
    John.

  • Samsung CLP-300 attached to Airport Express Base Station: Issues

I have found that my Samsung CLP-300 printer, which is connected to my Airport Express Base Station via USB, refuses to print after printing one document. After restarting my Airport Express Base Station, I found that the printer would start printing again, but only one document - afterwards, I required a base station restart before the printer could print again.
Does anybody know how to rid this problem? I would like to be able to print consecutive documents without needing a reboot.

Hi Eric. I've had the same troubles for quite some time. I've had limited success setting the printer up as an IP Printer. Here's a link to another discussion that might help you out. Good luck!

  • Can no longer access airport base station

I can surf the net via airport, but wireless printing has stopped working. I can also no longer configure the base station via the admin utility - just get an error message "an error occured whilst reading the configuration".
any suggestions what i can do to fix this?

First thing to try - pull power to the Airport Express and let it reboot, then restart your Mac.
If you still have problems, I'd next ask if you are using third-party firewall software on your Mac (which in a worse case scenario will block both admin and printer access to your Airport Express).

  • Printer not found on airport extreme base station

Have set up a printer via the USB port on the base station it worked just fine BUT when I switch off the printer and my mac book pro and then restart the printer is no longer avialable / picked up by the base station. I have to restart the base station via the airport utility and then it finds the attached printer. Is this what you have to do?

I've had mine totally not work either upon restart. Basically - I've had two of these basestations lose their usb drives and printers when restarted. Its like they blow a fuse or something.
