Even if you could open Disk Utility you can't reformat a disk while you are booted from it. You will have to use the install CD. I currently use a Mac Pro 10.8.4 and have a time machine for wireless 6.3 (630.34). Sometimes I cannot connect to the internet and use network preferences to diagnose the issue. This results in being told to restart the wireless. The airport utility includes the drop down option of restarting but is not clickable so I can't choose it.
With my prior macbook and same time capsule, etc if i had problems connecting to the internet I would run network diagnostics to help out. This included clicking on the airport utility ---> base station --> restart. This worked most of the time.
Bottom line, is there something I am missing in not being able to restart the wi-fi remotely? ]

You are likely forgetting a step.
Open AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon
Click Edit in the small window that appears
Now click the Base Station menu.....top of the screen....not the Base Station "tab" in the center of the screen
Click Restart

"In iTunes, I signed out of the store. I exited itunes and restarted it, logged back into the store (with my apple id), then I pulled down the iTunes menu in the menu bar and selected Check for updates.
At this point it said that iTunes 11.1 was available and I'm downloading now " Quoted from a fellow user.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying? Have you gained access to your mac, but getting pop-ups about your old password? If you have access, you could always copy important files and reinstall OS X from scratch. Also you could use the Mac as an external hard drive if you have another Mac doing the same. Those are probably the easiests ways. If it was easy to just go ahead and change passwords as so, security would be an issue. How is your computer locked? Is it a filevault password, or how much do you have access?

One thing to check: when shutting down or restarting, there is a checkbox in the shutdown/restart dialog which asks whether you want currently open applications to open at startup.

When Firefox crashes and I restart my Mac, it automatically restores the pages I had open before the crash. I don't want it to restore sessions. How can I disable that?

When Firefox gets hung up, I do a force quit. Then when I restart my Mac, it tries to restore all the sessions I had open before the crash. It doesn't crash often but every time it crashes, it does the automatic session restoration. The crash happens when I haven't shut down my computer for a day or two; it's like Firefox just gets tired and needs to be refreshed. It doesn't seem to matter what windows I had open. I have a MacBook Pro 10.6.8.

We close all applications before we power down the system. There is nothing open before we turn it off yet the same boxes open when we turn it back on.
