How to restore a remote site after a crash?

I have read the site management FAQ and it mentions to restore your files you can go to your remote site and load back to your local site.
Could anyone offer some help to my situation?
I suffered a hard drive failure, I'm running windows xp, dwcs4 and the site is hosted. I have reinstalled windows and dw. The site was created as per all the tutorials and I managed to save a copy of the site folder but not as per the saving instructions in the FAQ. I just have a root folder with all the pages in.
Could someone point me to a tutorial or how to?
Thanks in advance
Jim

You lost me here. Not sure what you mean.
Create a new site definition for local and remote sites, connect to your remote site then click Get. That's all you need to do.

  • How to Restore E-Business Suite after Server Crash?

    Hi Hussein Sawwan,
I have a question that will be useful to other members of the community. How do I restore Oracle E-Business Suite R12 after physically loosing the server that hosts the ERP instance?
    I have 2 scenarios here:
1-Existing cold backups of the DbTier and AppsTier are available
I have been doing a full backup of the Apps and Inst folders once a week on an external drive.
I have been copying the DB folder (Data + DBMS_ORACLE_HOME) after shutting down the database cleanly once a week on an external drive. Noting that, here the database is in NOARCHIVELOG mode.
2-Existing Hot backups of the Database are available and I have a backup of the Apps and Inst folders (AppsTier)
The database is in archivelog here. I have been doing a full hot backup of the database once a week, an Incremental backup everyday, and a full backup of the archivelogs once a week. All of this to an external drive. The Apps and Inst folders are backed up once a week to an external drive.
Let say something bad happens and we completely loose the physical server. How can I do to restore and recover my Oracle E-Business Suite R12 to a new server?
I know I will have to Install the same OS on the new server, but what happens after that?
    Thanks in advance,
    Clamarion.

I believe the easiest approach would be:
    - Install the same OS on the new servers
    - Install OS pre-req software and packages for your EBS instance
    - Restore from cold backup (if the crash happened directly after this backup and you haven't lost any data)
    OR,
    - Restore from hot backup (if the crash happened after your cold backup and you have data that wasn't part of the cold backup)
I assume that no changes to the hostname, domainname, IP Address, port numbers, directory structure, ..etc is taking place in this restore.
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • How to restore views and procedures after drop user command?

How to restore views and procedures after drop user command?
We have 817 EE on NT and one developer created a lot of procedures, functions and vews. DB was not backuped and archived and export has not been done - our fault and we understand it. Sorry for this.
Ok, now the story: another developer dropped this db user and we lost everything: procedures, functions and vews. The new user with trhe same name was created and new schema was imported in this user, but all old objects are lost. We don't have export and backup and archive log files.
Question: may we can restore this lost stuff from some other sources. We are looking for lost codes, not data. May be we can use redo logs or shared pool or any other things. Any idea will be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Victor
    [email protected]

The switch has occurred after user was dropped, the data has been overwritten and there is be no way to use redo log files.
I would like to explore another opportunity. Is possible to use Shared Pool or any Data Dictionary internal information to restore texts of the lost SQL and PL/SQL scripts executed in this DB before user was dropped? Not too many scripts are executed in this DB and the lost ones may still be in stack. I remember that Shared Pool (cash) should keep last executed scripts in order to improve performance. They probably are kept in some special format. Can we restore these scripts? Of course they also might be pushed out by Import that had been done after user was dropped.
    Thanks for your help,
    Victor

Firefox 18.0.1 running on Windows 7
When Firefox crashes, the next time it opens it tries to restore the previous session. I do not want Firefox to restore the previous session after a crash. How do I prevent Firefox from restoring the previous session after a crash?
    Please note:
1- My home page is set to "blank page"
2- I have configured Firefox to NOT remember my browsing history, download history, form fields and passwords.
3- Even in Safe Mode (i.e., with all add-ons disabled), Firefox STILL restores the previous session after a crash.

hello Bulldogger, please try the following in order to switch off sessionrestore completely: enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preferences named '''browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo''' and '''browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo'''. double-click on those entries and change both of their values to '''0'''.

  • How to access a remote site in dreamweaver

This might seem like a simple question, but i just downloaded DW as a trial, and want to try it out before buying. Now I've done the remote site set up and tested and it says it can connect to my remote site. But I want to now go to the site, log in, and make some changes to the web site pages which are stored there. None of the stuff is stored on my home PC. It's all at the remote site. So how do I edit it? How do I even log in? DW seems intended to work on files on your home PC, and then publish them to a remote site. My problem is it's all ON the remote site.

    Hi Nancy,
No, I'm not getting those selections under the file menu. What I've done is go to server, manage servers, and set up a remote server. When I test it it says "dreamweaver connected to your web server succesfully". So I assume that the remote server, at least, is set up properly. I didn't set up a "local site" however. Perhaps that could be it? But those choices are not on the drop-down box, even grayed out. If I click on "open" the box goes to my PC for choices. On the left side it has" My recent documents, desktop, my documents, my network (which doesn't lead anywhere)

  • How to best restore lost User Accounts after server crash?

Our late 2005 G5 froze sometime overnight in the middle of a Time Machine backup.  We had to do a hard reboot the next morning.
When OS X Server 10.5.8 came back up, none of our users could log in including our administrator accounts.  Unable to log in as root, we used the utility on the installation disc to reset the root password.  We were able to log in as root to see that our data and server disks still were intact and navigable.  However, we could not see any user accounts defined.  We then were able to log in as Server Administrator.  Same thing.
We are unfamiliar with restoring anything from Time Machine backups other than user files.  Is there a way to restore user accounts from Time Machine and how?
More info: we tried restoring some system files and the library folder but no luck.  Not sure how to go about restoring Keychain if that got corrupted...We had about 10 accounts defined before the crash.

  • How to restore using increment backup after full backup restore in RMAN?

    Hi All,
We have a files of full backup of database after turning on the Archive log.
And after that, daily incremental backup is taken.
Now, i want to restore the the database into a new machine using both files of full and incremental backups. Can anybody give me script for restore of full backup and after that restore of incremental backup?
    Thanks,
    Praveen.

    Praveen,
    >>
In my case, i have 2 sets of backups. One is full backup and other is incremental backup. In order to keep the restored database upto date, i need to restore the full backup and then restore incremental backup. Now, i got any idea how to restore using full backup. My doubt is how to update the restored database with incremental backup also?
    >>
Restore always looks for level 0 backup, not the incremental backups.
Incremental backups comes in picture during recovery.
During Recovery, Oracle looks for incremental backups, if exists, it will do the recovery with the incremental backups, if no incremental backups available, then, it will look for archived logs.
Therefore, incremental backups never used during restore, they are used only during the recovery.

  • How can I change remote site definition without breaking all of the links?

I've created a website and put it here http://home.comcast.net/~alpsf/index.html to test it during construction.  Now when I change the remote site definition on the local site in DW, all of the links are broken.  I now suspect the problem is that I made it site root-relative, and DW inserted /~alpsf/ in all of the links.  Is there a way to fix this?
    Thanks very much.

You can do a find and replace to change the links globally. Make sure you do a complete backup of the site prior to doing this incase you don't do it correctly. Let me stress that again, backup your entire site incase you need to restore. If you have created a "new site" and this will not be part of the /~alpsf site, then you will need to define a new site and copy all the files into that folder (I am guessing this is the case). I would copy the files outside of Dreamweaver. You could do this without touching the files in the ~alpsf directory. There are a lot of variable here as I don't know exactly what you are doing.
On the file menu select window/results-select search. (this is done if the search window is not open).
Find in: Entire Current Local Site
    Search: Source Code
    Find: "/~alpsf/
    Replace:"/
That should do it, but this is a very tricky thing. I wouldn't have a problem doing this as long as I have everything backed up.
    Jim
Edited:You might have to go into your css, spry files and any others that has links to do the same (this time only select Find in: Current document once the document is open). Once that is done, delete the whole remote site and upload the changes once you check that everything is completed.

  • How do I tell my browser how to find my remote site on cafe_townsend tutorial

Worked through the tutorial in Dreamweaver 8 and everything peachy. Browser fired up everytime I hit f12. Then I got to the part where I put my local files to the remote site and now my browser can't find the URL. There are some instructions about localhost:5800 for coldfusion but not sure what it means. I know about that tab, but the problem is that the iPod carries those preferences with it from computer to computer. I do want it to automatically update when plugged into my iBook, but I don't want it to when I plug it into the old G4. Right now my iPod is linked to two different libraries when it should only be to one. I know I can work around this by changing the preferences every time I decide to plug my iPod from one computer to the other, but it seems a little unnecessary—like there should be an easy way to just stop the synching altogether on my old computer...

  • How to restore playlists and ratings after hard drive format

Several people have reported problems restoring paylists and ratings after reformating a hard drive. Here is what worked for me and what did not.
I had to reformat my hard drive. Before doing that I exported my playlists from itunes to another hard drive as an xml file. I also copied the folder with all my songs to another drive. (Also of course had it backed up on DVDs.)Then I copied the itunes library files (see url http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732) to anoher drive.
After reformating my hard drive and installing the lastest verion of ITunes, I copied the actual songs back into a subfolder in my music folder. I then told iTunes to import the subfolder with the actual music. That resulted in a restored library that lacked playlists and ratings.
    Don't do this
I purchased Anapod ($30.00) because its web page said (http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/):
"Anapod CopyGear is an easy-to-use, compact utility for copying music tracks, playlists, podcasts, photos, and videos from your iPod back to your PC."
Well, I did transfer 104 playlists back to my iTunes library through the Anapod backup function. However, the transfer also put more than 20 gigs of duplicate songs into the library. All of the songs listed in the playlists were duplicated in iTunes. I could find no way in Anapod to simply copy the ratings and the playlists. Anapod documentation was outdated. For example the online help pages said that playlists could not be backed up. This was confusing because I had just done that.
"In a future release we will be adding the ability to backup your iPod playlists. This will allow you to generate backup files of your iPod playlists on the computer. These files will not be usable on your computer though. They can only be used to restore playlists at a later time on your iPod (assuming it still carries all the audio files referred to in that playlist)." This text is from url http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/support/tome/tx2pc.php#5.1.2
I sent requests to Anapod for help today, but they have not been answered yet. Docs truly did not seem to help. Would have been good if there was a pdf file rather than just an online help html file that seemed outdated.
    This worked for me:
I ended up having iTunes wipe out the entire library because of all the dups Anapod made. (Made sure that iTunes only wiped out library and did not delete actual songs from hard drive. Then I had iTunes import my subfolder with songs again. That brought me back to where I was before wasting money and much time on Anapod.
After I had my iTunes library up (without ratings and playlists and after finding Anapod did not meet my needs.
    1. I imported the xml file to which I had exported playlists before reformating hard drive. That gave me the playlists back although an error message said some items not copied because the music tracks listed in playlists were not in my iTunes library. --Possibly I deleted songs after playlists were downloaded some time ago to iPod. Importing the xml file is probably not necessary because of what I did below.
    2. Quit iTunes
    3. Because my song ratings were still missing, I then moved the iTunes library files made by the new version of iTunes into a different folder.
    4. Then I put my old version 4 library files into the place where the library files should be.
    5. Then I crossed my fingers and restarted iTunes. It took awhile to start and said it was updating my library files. Now I have back most or all of my playlists and ratings.
If problems develop, I will probably wipe out iTunes library and use Anapod to move everything from my iPod into a folder and tell iTunes to import that folder. That approach might avoid the dups that Anapod makes when restoring playlists to iTunes.
So my message is keep your actual songs backed up somewhere (such as DVD's and anotehr hard drive) and keep a duplicate copy of your library files somewhere not on your hard drive. With these items you should be able to restore iTunes library to its former status.
Sorry for the length of this message. Hope it helps someone.

    The simple version of above:
iTunes Files to Backup (anytime you make additions or changes to the Music or Library that you want to retain)
    1) All music files in their current folder structure (usually located in and under the ‘iTunes Music’ folder)
    2) The Library database file: ‘iTunes Library.itl’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    3) The Library XML file: ‘iTunes Music Library.xml’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    4) Any XML playlist files created for Playlist retention
    5) The two iTunes.pref files (optional)
    -- C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    -- C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref
    6) The XML file of Ratings, Play Counts and Last Played attributes saved from the main Library and created by Otto’s SaveRatings script (also optional, but recommended):
“Download this: http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/SaveRatings.zip . It's a program, just run it like any other program. Run it on the machine where you're copying the info from BEFORE you move the files to the new machine. Click the "Save Ratings" button and it'll create a ratings.xml file. Now when you move the files, move the program and this file as well. Then after you make your new iTunes library, run it again and click the "Restore Ratings" button. Voila, all your information is back in the Library. Well, most of it anyway, it's not perfect. It'll tell you what songs it couldn't figure out though, and there's usually not very many.”

  • How to restore old prefs, etc after clean reinstall of 10.3.9?

Due to a fiasco with Drive Genius I was forced to reformat and reinstall 10.3.9. Luckly, I was bright enough to manually copy over the entire contents of the drive to a firewire drive before I started the drive genius project.
I was able to find directions on how to restore my users which worked perfectly.
I've copied all the apps back. But all the apps were in the main drive rather than in users, so the prefs, registrations etc are, I assume, stored in the old library.
Is there a way to replace the new library with the original to avoid several days work digging out the original packaging to get the serial numbers for re-entering so I can get back to work right away?

The serial #s, etc were in fact in the original main library. I was able to restore the use of all the programs by manually replacing the missing items in each folder in the library. It took over an hour, but I got it all back and saved me from having to rummage through storage boxes for the original documentation to retrieve and re-enter all the info.
