How to restore a SharePoint server on a development machine - how it was after a fresh installation

Hi
I have installed SharePoint server on my machine.  The thing is, I have created some custom web parts and made some modification to the sites, how do I restore back the sharepoint server to how it was when I first installed it.

Hello,
Simple way is, uninstall all custom WSP's which you have created. Then if you made any change at UI level in site then go to site settings page-->click on reset to site definition. This will remove all your work and provide your fresh site as it was earlier.
Let me know if i am missing something or misunderstood you

  • How do I restore my 27" mid-2011 iMac EXACTLY the way it was after hard disk replacement?

    Hi all.
Recently received an email from Apple saying that the 1TB Seagate hard drive in my 27" mid-2011 iMac is apt to fail anytime. Apparently they used some bad hard drives in the mid-2011 27" iMacs which are problematic so they're offering me a free replacement to a brand new hard drive. I'll be sending in my iMac for the replacement sometime in the next few days.
In preparation for it, I've backed up my entire system using Time Machine into an external harddrive. The backup is up to date & includes all system files. I've also made a Lion install disk on an 8GB USB flash/pen drive using Carbon Copy Cloner.
My question is: When I get my iMac back after the hard disk replacement, will I be able to restore my iMac to EXACTLY the way it was before the replacement using the Time Machine backup & the Lion install disk that I've prepared? When I mean EXACTLY, I do mean EXACTLY, e.g I don't have to re-install all the programs I have, my settings for the programs I have will stay intact, everything is where it should be etc...i.e EXACTLY the way my iMac is right now.
If yes, how do I do it? I've read Pondini's guide: http://pondini.org/TM/14.html
However it is less than clear on certain points, e.g in my case, which one do I have to use to restore my system to the way it was...the Time Machine backups I have on the external HDD or the Lion install disk that I made using Carbon Copy Cloner? And how do I go about doing the restore?
I'd appreciate any & all help given. Thanks in advance!

baltwo: Thanks for your input! I didn't think of wiping the old HDD before sending it in for the replacement..all those sensitive user data! One question: What's a FWHD?
Already answered. Just note that FW is much faster than USB. See http://help.bombich.com/kb/troubleshooting/how-long-should-the-clone-or-backup-t ake for details.
I already have CCC installed so I'll probably try it out. Are the steps outline here the one that I should do to restore the CCC clone when I get my Mac with the new HDD back? See: http://help.bombich.com/kb/overview/restoring-data-from-your-backup#full_volume_ restore
    Yes.
Another question: while I'm booted on the backup/clone, and just after I've wiped the old HDD, how do I reinstall the OS to create a generic user account? Will I have to use a Lion install USB disk?
No. IIRC (if I remember correctly), you can either use a saved Lion installer (hopefully it exists on your backup/clone) or use the Recovery HD. If you have the USB stick w/Lion installer on it, use that.

  • Restoring OS X Server from a Time Machine backup

On this below article on Apple support says:
Important: When restoring, restore from a local Time Machine backup. If you try to restore from a network-based Time Machine backup, not all settings will be restored correctly
Is it means that if i were using Time Capsule it will not be restored correctly??
'All settings' mentioned above is it settings for the OS X or settings in Server App?
    Full article here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5139
    Please enlight me

Is it means that if i were using Time Capsule it will not be restored correctly?
Yes, that's what it means. In my experience, Setup Assistant doesn't properly restore all server data even from a local backup, though perhaps it works for some. You should have at least one mirror (clone) backup of the server as well as Time Machine backups.

  • Which basic services has to be turned on to run the SharePoint after the fresh installation

    Hi,
    Any help?
    Thanks
    srabon

In order to run CA, all you need to do is provision Central Admin (part of creating a new farm) to the server of your choice. It doesn't rely on any other SharePoint services.

    Hi,
I have installed Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 Enterprise Edition on my testing Lab environment (On VM Workstation 10) on Windows Server 2012 with SQL server 2012, I can access all files stored at SharePoint Server from any physical machine, I can share
a single file among different people to work simultaneously, but here i stuck on saving any file from client machine to directly on SharePoint Server, Attached is the snap shot, whenever I try to save any file directly It says Path Does Not Exist, If I drag
and drop any file directly to SharePoint I do not see any error message.
I read from different posts that I need to Enable Desktop Experience Feature on Server 2012, which I installed but no positive result gained :(

How to Restore a SharePoint 2010 Sitecollection from Prod to Pre-Prod?
The patching levels are different from each environment.
    Tools installation is same.
Note: Suggest me to restore a site from site template without content.
If you have any better approach please tell me.
    Many Thanks,
    Madhu

    Hi Madhu,
It isn't possible (out of the box) to restore a production to a development site without the content.
If you're happy with restoring the content, it's quite easy to backup a SharePoint farm and then restore only a site (form the farm backup) to a development farm.
Have a look at these forum posts for more info (in the first link, I gave an example script):

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you get an error when you restore a site collection from a different server in SharePoint 2010.
I recommend that you can try to click the “KB2536599” for SharePoint 2010 version 14.0.0.6106 to download the patch from the following links and install the patch in your environment.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/moss_it/archive/2011/08/15/lista-di-versioni-di-sharepoint-server-2010-o-sharepoint-foundation-2010-wss-4-0.aspx
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2536599
After the installation, you need to run the Configuration Wizard. Later you should be able to restore this site collection successfully.

  • How come My Sites can only be created when logged directly onto the Sharepoint Server?

    Hello Community
In Synchronization I populate the container with OU's that contain
Service accounts, user accounts created in the Sharepoint farm and a
domain local group containing a OU with all of the trusted user accounts.
AFter populating the container I perform a User Profile Synchronization.
After the User Profile Synchronization finishes MIISClient shows "success"
including the OU containing the trusted user accounts.
Although I cannot Find all of the trusted users individually in Manage User Profile I
can find them with the peoplepicker when I add them to the web application
and the My Site Host application.
The problem is if I logon directly onto the Sharepoint server with an account created
in the Sharepoint farm I can create a My Site with that account. But if a trusted user
logs onto their computer and tries to create a My Site they get an error stating
    the page can't be displayed.
Even if I click "sign on as a different user" on the trusted user computer
and with a user account that was created in the Sharepoint farm and try to create a
My Site I get the error stating the page can't be displayed.
The reason the page can't be displayed on the trusted users computer is because although
it can access the My Site Host application it cannot access its default.aspx page.
So the question is how come when creating a My Site the My Site Host default.aspx page
cannot be accessed from the trusted user computer but when creating a My Site directly on
the Sharepoint Server the default.aspx page can be accessed and the trusted user and/or the
user account created in the farm can access the default.aspx page and create a My Site?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

What does that mean "trusted user computer"?
How many servers you have in farm?
Are you using a single domain or there are multiple domains involved ?

  • How to detect whether a database was created by Restoring (from SQL Server Enterprise Manager) or by Attaching (from SQL Server Enterprise Manager)

Ours is a SQL Server Express Edition 2008-R2 - Windows Forms based application. We have a backup/restore utility provided with our software which performs some logical checks before restoring a backup to ensure that the backup is functionally valid.
However, our clients often use the SQL Server Enterprise Manager utility to 1) Restore backups or 2) Attach data files (kept aside before formatting) directly. This type of action bypasses all our functional checks and allows the user to restore an invalid
    backup.
We want to detect that a database was restored/attached and may be we will stop the software from loading if such a thing happened. We think that this information (attach/restore) should be available within some table of SQL Server itself but don't know the
    right location/query.
If any change is required in our software to achieve the above, we are ready to do the same too, e.g. may be we need to store some data at some point of time to make the detection happen, please advise.
So, how can we detect that
A database backup was restored using SQL Server Management Utility
(Note: MSDB.Restorehistory may not be a good option as we have often found this table blank for unknown reasons even after backup was restored and just in case user restores the MSDB from MSDB backup or MSDB template due to a data corruption, may be due to
abnormal shutdown of system, then the RestoreHistory table data is gone)
A database was created by attaching a data/log file using SQL Server Management Utility
Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.

    Hi,
For Enterprise edition, we can enable Auditing to audit BACKUP_RESTORE_GROUP in a server audit specification. However, SQL Server audit (fine-grained auditing) feature is not available for the SQL Server Express.
Features Supported by the Editions of SQL Server 2008 R2
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645993(v=sql.105).aspx
When a database is attached, SQL Server ERRORLOG will record “Starting up database 'DBNAME'.”
Using ALTER DATABASE OFFLINE and ONLINE will re-open the database files under the SQL Server, the SQL Server error log also contains the following informational message: “Setting database option ONLINE to ON for database 'DBNAME'.”

  • How to use Digital Signature and PKI in SharePoint Server 2013

    Dear Expert,
My company will plan to use Digital Signature and PKI document in SharEPoint Server 2013.
Can you guide me what's the concept and how to implement and develop?
    Please suggestion.
    BR,

    Hi BR,
Based on your description, my understanding is that you want to use Digital Signature and PKI in SharePoint Server 2013.
You can use digital signatures in forms ,then use these forms in you SharePoint site.
In InfoPath form ,you can change the form to allow signature here: File>Info>Advanced form options >Digital Signatures .You can choose to sign the whole form or a field .
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0ed54d57-d67d-41cd-bd1b-9e5a4be10d0c/use-of-digital-signature-in-sharepoint-2010?forum=sharepointcustomizationprevious
Or you can use any tools such as the ADSS Connector for SharePoint which allows enterprise users to "click and sign" on a document in SharePoint.

While the steps below are fine for Word (and I gather that Excel, Powerpoint have similar steps), what
about Project 2007?  We have Project 2007 SP3, and (a) it doesn't have an Office Button like the core Office 2007 products, and (b) the SharePoint Local Drafts folder isn't listed in the Save options.  Please advise!

    Hi,
You can change the location of your local drafts folder where your files are placed while they are
checked out to you in Office system program: click “Microsoft Office Button”>select “Word Options”>select “Save”>in
Offline editing options for document management server files> in Server drafts location
box, type the location on your hard disk where you want to work with checked-out files, or click
    Browse and find the location.
