How to restore audio video sync in media file

I captured some clips from my Mini-DV Panasonic PV-GS320. Some clips were in sync but a couple were off. I unlinked audio and video and slid the video later by about 20 frames and it sounded fine. But I need a media source file that I can edit from.
Is there a way to modify the media file or generate a new media file that is in sync? If I export a new movie is there a specific format I should use?
I recorded 12 bit audio and imported it at 32 KHz.

Could the bad ones have been shot at 16bit ?
No. I recorded them all together in one session. All I did was hit the record button on and off. When I tried to capture the entire 30 minute session it crash at the end when doing some audio processing. So I captured it in 3 clips. The middle clip was in sync and the beginning and end clips were not.
I actually have two questions:
1) How can I fix the sync in the broken clips? I have recaptured the clips and get the same out of sync result.
2) How can I avoid this problem in the future?
I have recorded and captured several movies using the same gear and SW and never had this problem before.

  • 'Source play' and 'audio-video sync' problems with PE8 on fast WIN7 64 bit computer

I am transferring Hi8 videos, about 2 hours long, to my WIN7 64 bit computer with PE8.  [Dell Mobile Precision M4400 Computer Workstation (Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 500GB/4GB); NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB] I seem to have several problems:
First, after importing the file (.avi), I get a message about ‘dropped frames.’
Secondly, when I try to play the video in the source monitor, the audio plays but the video doesn’t; it only shows the first frame [this is after waiting until the video is ?recognized? ]   I can use the shift-arrow key and see that the video is there.
Thirdly, I can play the .avi file in other players, e.g., avidemux or PE pro CS5 on another computer.  There, I see that the audio and video are not in sync; the audio can be up to 300 ms ahead of the video (as determined using avidemux).
    Questions:
    1.  Why doesn’t the source monitor play the video? Is this a problem with PE8 (latest update as of 3 March 2011) on aWIN7 64 bit computer (intel duo core. 3 GHz).
    2. Is the audio-video sync problem the result of the ‘dropped frames?’ How can PE8 correct this? Avoid this? Or, is it coincidence?

"I think you're telling me you're using a backwards compatible Digital8  camcorder to capture your video as DV-AVIs. Is that right?" YES
"Are you using  Premiere Elements to do this capturing?" YES, AS ABOVE PE8
"Go to the File menu and select Properties. It should show a standard DV codec being used for your video and audio."
WMP v12 is dumb. Under properties, media, it says 'video.'  However, avidemux gave me the information state above: video -- Codec 4CC: dvsd, frame rate: 29.971 fps; audio -- codec: PCM, channels: Stereo, frequency: 48 kHz.
    So, back to the Questions:

  • Audio/Video sync drift in Premiere CS5.5, but not in CS6

I have a QuickTime file with the following specs:
    Video: H.264, 854x480, 29.99fps
    Audio: AAC, 44100 Hz
When I open the file in QT player, or in Adobe Premiere CS6, there is no issue with Audio/Video sync.
However, when I import the file in Premiere CS 5.5, there is a drift in the Audio/Video sync.
Is there something I can do in Premiere CS 5.5 to avoid or fix the drift?
    Thanks.

I had a similar problem and these are the steps I took to fix it.
First I deleted the files in "Adobe Premiere Pro Preview Files" for the project in question. I reopened Premiere and it appeared that deleting those files didn't seem to do anything as everything in the project looked the same.
I then disconnected the drive with the footage on it and opened Premiere. When it asked where the footage was, I told it to Offline All. I then went into Preferences > Media and hit Clean for the Media Cache Database. This had to be done because it only cleans the cache for files that are no longer connected with the project (as noted above). I closed and reopened the project, selected everything in the Project window, right clicked and chose Relink Media. I located one file and it relinked the rest automatically.
Now, finally, Premiere is re-conforming all the audio. Hooray!

  • Regular problem with video playback & audio video sync

So, I am regularly having two problems (I wonder whether they are connected) that I cannot solve and am hoping someone can tell me if I am out of luck or if I need to do something or add something.
For example, because it happened again today. These are details about the file stuff:
    Type:AVI
    Bit Rate:133kbps
    Dimensions:624x352
    Audio format: LameMP3
    Frame rate: 23 frames/second
    Data Rate: 1131 kbps
    Video Sample Size: 12 bit
    Video Compression: XVID
First Problem: If I play the file - I use Media Player Classic - it plays fine. Open it in Windows Media Player and it plays fine. Try to edit it in Premiere and the file loaded into Premiere is filled with what I believe are called audio video sync problems, so I have to constantly unlink audio and video and adjust it. It loads and does not need to conform.
I have the same problem on my laptop(Windows XP Home) and desktop (XP Pro), the desktop with twice the RAM. I have the K-lite Mega codec pack installed. I would call myself a beginner when it comes to video editing. I understand generally what codecs are but I am not capable to making any tweaks to the K-lite Mega codec pack (if I should have) so it is setup as installed.
Second Problem: The video in the playback box never plays back normally. I have tried adjusting the playback settings: have changed the aspect ratio between the software and harware option and adjusted between the three desktop display options. Occasionally it is "ok" but most of the time not and never just normal.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thank you.

I tried this already and then we had a blackout so going to try again and hope it goes through before a second one...lol
    Hello:
Thank you Robert J. Johnston, the_wine_snob, Paul_LS and SteveGrisetti for your help so far.
So this is where I am at now:
Files all seem to be of the same type, so I will just say "the file" for the one I am working with right now.
Loaded file into VirtualDub.  I like that program.  Well done, whoever made it.  Did some basic cutting of unwanted stuff.  Saved as AVI.  Saved both a Direct Stream Copy and a Full Processing Copy.
Opened the FP copy in Premiere Elements and it plays without audio sync problems that I can see. Have edited it some so far and still no problems.
Before I do any more editing work, I decided to save it (SHARE) in different formats to see what happens.
Goal: Looking for no audio sync problems.  Best quality I can get with a 1GB file size limit.
Saved as DV-AVI:  plays fine.  no audio sync probelms.  love the video quality.  2.95GB, so too big
Saved as Flash:  Do not see any audio sync problems.  Do NOT like the quality (flips back and forth between clear and all pixely (is that a word).  32 MG
Saved as Mpeg: Media Player won't play it (thought Media Player with KL Mega Codec played everything?) (It loads it but doesn't play?); Quicktime won't play it.  Windows Media Player just did.  Do not see any audio sync problems.  Like the video quality. 631 MB.
Saved as Windows Media: Do not "think" there are any audio sync problems; if there are, they are very subtle.  Not crazy about video quality.  Better than flash video option though still flickers between two types of qaulity (if that makes sense) . 52MB
Any suggestions as to what I should do at this point to meet my stated goal.  I assume [share]ing is what I should do?  Is there any exporting or any other options I do not know about.  Without your help I figure I will Share to MPEG?  Not sure why Media Player won't play it and Windows Media Player will?
Any thoughts on the best choice for me?  Thanks for your help.

  • Audio/Video sync program for Power PC G5

Greetings to ALL,  I am attempting to determine if there is a audio/video sync program for my PPC G5 running 10.5.8?
Suggestions would be great because if I cannot locate a program I am at the end of the road for this little project.
Working with a Nikon D7000 and RODE Pro Mic and looking to get the Tascam DR 100MkII recorder if I can figure out how to get things to jell.
    Thank You, pc

Even if syncing directly is not practical, iTunes can manage audio files, has many organization features for audio, such as playlists and folders of playlist, and tags that can be applied to multiple audio and video files are supported by it.   MPEG4Streamclip offfers a variety of conversion tools that are available for PowerPC for video and will bring videos to work with iTunes.  H.264 MPEG4s are the best for iTunes.
And http://www.lemkesoft.com/ GraphicConverter lets you browse Finder folders, which you can tag by month, and year, and even time, in a hierarchy that makes sure you don't do any duplication.   Since the Nikon D7000 does write to standard SD cards, you just need a Mac OS X 10.5 supporting SD card reader.  Many SansDisk readers supports it.

  • How to restore audio in iOS 8 (beta 5) after requesting mic access?

I posted this question over on StackOverflow before realizing that the AIR team might be working on a fix: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25168882/air4-how-to-restore-audio-in-ios-8-beta-5-afte r-requesting-mic-access
In a nutshell, requesting microphone input in iOS 8 will terminate all audio if it's done AFTER a sound has already been played, but not if it occurs before (sample code is in SO post).
Apps were tested using an iPad 3 the Flex 4.6.0 SDK with AIR 4.0, and with AIR 14.0 - the same behaviour was exhibited.
This poses serious problems for our apps, which are already released and being updated for iOS 8, so please let me know if this is a known issue, and if not, whether you're able to confirm from your side.
    Thanks!

Yes, exactly the same flow on our side - interesting to know that it's FLV as well.
My problem remains, though: in iOS 8, if I play a sound (via MP3, SWF, etc) and then check the mic, all further sound in the application stops indefinitely until I close/reopen the app. Since we need to record audio at various times in the app, this will cause a major problem for our users!
I've added a bug in the hopes that someone can verify the problem: Bug#3801262 - Requesting microphone access in iOS 8 (beta 5) terminates all further audio
    Thanks!

  • Satellite A80: How to restore audio and video codecs?

How can I restore the audio and video codecs which are installed by default on my Satellite A80 with XP Home edition?
I removed them in safe mode because of a problem with the Pinnacle Codec installed by Pinnacle Studio 10.
Now I need to set the standard audio en video codecs back.
I already downloaded the codec package from Microsoft Mediaplayer and have sound en video again in Media Player.
Unfortunately I still don't have sound in Toshiba Diagnose Program when testing Midi and Wave sound.
System restore came up with the message that restore was not possible because no changes had been made.
    Message was edited by: roel

Have investigated in the forum and found this different codecs:
    -Zsunami Filter Pack: (3.9.9)
    - Nimo Codec Pack: (5.0 Final)
    - ACE Mega CoDeC Pack: (5.93)
    - Codec Pack Elisoft: (13.505)
    - K-Lite Codec Pack: (2.2) Full
    - SLD Codec Pack: (1.5 Pro)
    - All in One: (5.0.6.1)
    - The Codecs: (1.1 full)
Well, if the system restore does't work try to install one or several codecs from this list.
Have found it in this posting:

  • IDVD 08 audio/video sync drift toward end of DVD movie - fix/workaround?

Anyone know how I can fix this issue? It's driving me crazy.
I've just spent a few evenings in iMovie 08, editing together the video of my son's birth. All looked & amazingly good in iMovie. The "Large" .m4v file output by iMovie - Shared with the Media Browser - plays perfectly in Quicktime too.
However, after adding that shared movie to iDVD 08, and burning a DVD, I noticed that the audio sync drifts toward the end of the Movie when plated back. At the start of the DVD all seems well, but by the end of the ~1hr 20 minute movie the audio is unbearably out of sync with the video. Completely unwatchable.
After a little Googling I came across some reports that iDVD might not deal well with video that's been recorded with 12-bit audio. I've confirmed that my camcorder is (was!) set to 12-bit rather than 16-bit (the default, I'm sure). So if that's the problem I'm hosed... it's not like I can get a retake on that footage
Is there a reasonable workaround for this issue? I'm obviously unable to re-take the video (or the other 10 hours of DV video tape I've yet to use in an iMovie project). Ideally I'd like Apple to release a patch for this. Shouldn't it be possible for iDVD to account for audio that was originally recorded in 12-bit... even if it's just a checkbox you have to select to tip it off?
Then again, perhaps this is totally unrelated to the 12-bit issue, and this is just a run of the mill bug?
As I said... iMovie generates a MPEG4 video file of the Movie that looks/sounds perfect, so it seems this sync issue's being created somewhere in iDVD as it's rendering the audio/video to burn to the DVD...
    Thanks in advance.

I've tried most of the options I can think of, and the audio sync drift issue continues on this ~1hr 12 minute iMovie/iDVD 08 project.
A couple of promising ideas tried used QT Pro, to export the audio track from the iMovie generated MPEG-4 file - as a WAV file, resampling to 48kHz and 16-bit... then Adding this back to the video track in the MPEG-4 file (having deleted the original audio track). In another test I also tried the Add to Selection and Scale option. Oddly enough I think the Add to Selection and Scale attempt generated more sync issues than before in the final DVD movie... so I stuck with the MPEG-4 file containing the video track and the added, resampled at 48kHz & 16 bit, WAV audio track.
This was saved as a self contained Movie file, producing a QT .mov file. I moved this .mov file into the iDVD projects directory structure so that it was avalable in iDVD's Media Browser. I then reworked the iDVD project to use this QT large.mov file, instead of the original iMovie large.m4v file.
As a reminder... the original large.m4v file has the following properties:
    29.97 FPS H.264 Decoder, 960 x 540, Millions
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz
    0:01:12:07.16 duration
The resampled and saved QT MOV file has the following properties:
    29.97 FPS H.264 Decoder, 960 x 540, Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
    0:01:12:07.16 duration
BOTH versions of this Movie file play flawlessly within QT Pro... there's no audio sync drift evident toward the end of the movie unless I use iDVD 08 to burn either movie file to a Physical DVD (or DVD Disk Image). In both cases the resultant DVD Movie exhibits significant audio sync drift as the ~1hr 12 minute movie progresses. The sync goes out by ~ <= 1 second based on a rough visual assessment.
I've not yet tried to burn either the original iMovie produced MPEG-4 video file or my QT Pro tweaked audio track .MOV file version to a DVD on my PC...
... But I have used an application called Burn (referenced in this earlier/archived iDVD sync drift forum post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1332100 by user F Shippey - http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/) to take the QT Pro tweaked .mov file version of the original MPEG-4 file and burn it to a DVD...
    Results:
The Burn app burnt DVD plays with NO audio sync issues!... Even though it was generated from the same audio tweaked (48kHz/16-bit resampled) QT Pro .mov file.
However, whenever I burn a DVD using iDVD 08 the audio sync gradually drifts. It matters not whether I use the original iMovie 08 generated MPEG-4 movie file, or the QT Pro version of that file with the resampled audio track (the same one that works fine with Burn).
It sure looks to me like iDVD has a problem... Again, refer to http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1332100 for someone else who seems to have run into similar challenges.
    Am I overlooking something?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Audio-Video sync

New to the video world (I'm a sound guy) so please excuse the rank ignorance. I'm a newbie editor working on a project I had to capture using "Non-Controllable Device". The audio and video are a bit out of sync (there was no time-code on the footage... and no, I didn't shoot it), and I'm trying to get them in sync.
I've dropped a master clip into the timeline, made it independent, unlinked the audio and lined it up (more or less), then merged back into the browser.
When I view the clip in the viewer it's in-sync. All well and good. But when I create a subclip, the audio is back out of sync - i.e. it takes the footage straight out of the media file with the original sync issues.
What am I doing wrong, and how can I possibly get this audio and video in sync? I have 3 main files, each about an hour long, that I'm trying to cut down into subclips so that I can work with them, but I want the audio and video in sync before I do this, or I'm going to have a nightmare on my hands.
    What do I do?
    Thanks, Ian

Agreed, it does most likely have to do with latency. Even when you get that figured out, sync will still be a little funky on an LCD screen. But we all get used to that.
The test is simple: send audio through computer outputs. If it is in sync there, or reasonably so, then the footage is fine and you just saved yourself from messing it up.
Now go back to the external monitoring and try to figure out how far off the sync is. If you want to get real tech-weenie, one way is to point a camera at the thing playing unmistakable sync, like 2-pops. Import that and step through the frames to see how far off the sync is and which way.
Under Final Cut Pro / System Settings / Playback Offset is a tiny little box called "Frame Offset". I think that may be able to help you out, but suggest reading up on it first.
And unlike double-system sound, there's really no way a video operator can be responsible for sync being off. Video and audio are recorded at the same time, on the same ribbon of rust.
Followup: your Halo interface probably also has ways of dealing with latency issues. If it does I would suggest fiddling there first.

  • Why Wont Apple Fix AUDIO / VIDEO Sync Issues

This has been a problem for awhile. Thank god there is a application fix but im receiving an iTouch very soon and I'm not sure if the same problem is going to be on that to..
It might be how Quicktime reads .MP4 and .M4V Files but i can play the videos on VLC and Zune Software fine..
I see other people posting this exact same problems. I see no answers... Apple Knows this is an issue. Why wont they fix it.
From what im hearing it is the audio that is going out of sync from the video.
    Now my Final Question is
"Is this just a Software issue for the computers or is it also a Software issue (Assuming that quicktime is the software on these devices) for the iTouch / iPhone ?

well i got my itouch today and it seems that the audio and video sync issues are only on the computer distributions of quicktime and not the hand held device versions

  • Audio Video Sync Message ? ?

    When I capture video from my old Sony DCR-PC110 via a Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 cable from camera to MAC I get the following message after the full capture is complete;
"The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape. This may cause a video and audio of these media files to be out of sync. Make sure the audio sample rate of your capture preset matches the sample rate of your tape."
This happens to some but not all videos captured this way. My easy set up is set as follows:
    Format is NTSC
    Use DV-Video
What causes this message and what do I need to change?

Check out page 89 of the Sony DCR-PC110 manual. There are two recording modes:
12bit and 16bit. 12bit mode (LP) has an audio sampling rate of 32kHz (yuk).
Best practice for miniDV is to record in 16-bit mode (SP), which uses an
    audio sample rate of 48kHz.
FCE's easy setup for DV is 48kHz. So you have to choices to avoid the error.
You can choose to always shoot using the higher quality 16bit mode (best choice).
OR you can change your capture settings so that the capture preset's audio
sample rate is 32kHz. The second option is not as good, but if you have to
capture footage that was recorded at 32kHz, that's your only choice.

  • How to  stream audio/video to real Audio Player

    Hello
I am planning on doing a project on streaming audio/video onto Real Audio Player . I am very new to JMF . I would appreciate some pointers on how to start off. I ahve read the documents but am not able to get started right .
I wanted to know the following :
    1. Isnt the RTP streaming streaming for live audio or video ? If I want to stream something which I have stored in my local machine then how do i do it - do i need to use RTP ?
    2. I undertsand that if i need to stream the audio/video file I need to convert it to a format the Real Audio Player supports. How do i go about that ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks in advance
    Shailaja

JMF doesn't have any support for Real media. Real has gone open source with their Helix Community, so maybe you could find some useful information there: http://www.helixcommunity.org

  • Audio / video sync issue in playback

for every recording i've made, when i play back the archive there is noticable lack of sync between the audio and the person's mouth.   the video seems to lag behind by almost a second.  the good news at least is that the delta is constant.
has anyone else experienced this?  it's happening in any scendario i try, even if i'm just recording myself.
is the LCCS dev team aware of this?  since audio and video streams are recorded separately, is there any way for me to programatically 'nudge' the streams into sync?
it's currently a show stopper, it looks really bad when the sync is so obviously absent.

    finally getting back to this..
i did as you suggested and recorded a video of myself using the recording and playback examples provided with the SDK (the 2.2 newest version btw).
the de-syncing of audio and video is definitely there.  it seems especially bad for longer recordings.  however, an interesting thing i discovered in playback:
    - sometimes, if i drag the playhead somewhere in the recording, pause, and then hit play, video and audio fall into sync.
    - if i start playback from the beginning of the recording, audio/video is always out of sync.
i understand that the video and audio streams are recorded separately and thus played back separately.  my guess is that when those streams are retrieved and playback begins, one starts before/after the other because they're not retrieved at exactly the same time.  it seems some extra work is required to ensure that their playback commences at exactly the same timestamp within each stream.
i can provide my recordings as an example if required.
this is a total showstopper for me.  it renders the entire recording service useless if the playback can't have sync between audio and video.  i would be happy to help with testing this more.  can someone from the LCCS team comment on this issue?
    thanks
    adam
