How to restore BIOS Presario CQ56?

Laptop: Presario CQ56 (CQ56-172SR), Windows 7.
Problem: while updating the BIOS the laptop crashed (freeze). Before the update was BIOS version F.07, updated to version F.15. Update file downloaded from the official site.  Update file was run under Windows 7. The laptop was working all night and not switched off. Update was not completed. The laptop was turned off by disconnecting the battery.
Now the laptop is switched on but the screen is black. Burning power LED. When connecting USB flash drive, LED lights at regular intervals.
Tell me, please, how I can restore the BIOS?
Sorry for the quality of the English language :-)

Hi
There are 3 different ways to recover an earlier version of the BIOS
1)   From HP_Tools Partition
Whenever you upgrade the BIOS on your notebook, a copy of the previous version is stored in the HP TOOLS partition of your hard disk drive.
Plug the notebook into an AC adapter.
Press the Power button while holding the Windows key and the B key.
The emergency recovery feature replaces the BIOS with the last known good version. The computer reboots automatically when the process is completed successfully.
Note: If the HP_Tools partition has been deleted by customer then the above process will be inaccessible or the system will hang if the above process is tried.
2)   From UEFI Environment Menu
Press the Power Button and then tap the Esc key to enter the UEFI environment menu.  In the menu you should see a BIOS management option. Select it and then select Rollback to Previous BIOS and hit enter.
3)   Recovering the BIOS using an External Storage Device
If the HP_TOOLS volume on your HDD has been deleted, a USB key with an HP_TOOLS volume can be used as an alternative. The key can be created manually or by using the HP UEFI BIOS Update SoftPAQ or the new HP UEFI Support Environment SoftPAQ and selecting the Create a USB key option. The USB key does not have to be bootable. However, this assumes the boot block is not corrupted in which case a repair is required.
To recover the BIOS on your notebook using the USB key:
Plug the notebook into an AC adapter.
Insert the USB key with HP_Tools installed into an available USB port.
Press the Power button while holding the Windows key and the B key.
The emergency recovery feature replaces the BIOS with the version on the USB key. The computer reboots automatically when the process is completed successfully.
You are now able to boot into the BIOS screens or Windows operating system per usual after recovering the BIOS.
Let us know how it goes!

    Hello everyone,
a few days go I've tried to disable HPET in the advanced BIOS mode in a "unlocked BIOS" (i needed an unlocked BIOS for use SSD in AHCI mode); after saving BIOS settings and after reboot, I've only a blank screen.
Always seems to be power on but nothing happen...only blank screen.
I've tried to release AC, battery and CMOS battery but nothing change.
There's a way to restore BIOS(usb, cd, other)?
I've read CTRL+Home (where is "Home" button?....I've to use Fn button or 7 on Numeric Pad?) or CTRL+Start(Windows flag) on pressing power button but nothing happen.
    Can you help me?
Thank you very much in advance
P.S. sorry for my bad english

    MSI has answered me:
"There is no recovery BIOS procedure" then I've to send my notebook to MSI assistence.

  • How to restore BIOS on Equium A300D-16C?

How I can restore or recovery my BIOS because I update it with wrong BIOS so my laptop cant open , post , boot only black screen with power on , plug charger in light indicator.

Usually its not possible to update the notebooks BIOS using wrong or not compatible BIOS.
    Why?
Because Toshiba releases the BIOS win based version and this BIOS version has to be flashed from running system. In case you would try to start the update using wrong BIOS version, the update process would be interrupted.
However, try the tips posted in other thread. In case this would not work for you, I assume that you will need a professional assistance from Toshiba authorized service provider.

  • Recovery Manager could not restore Presario CQ56 & system won't boot, gives error BOOTMGR is missing

There were no changes made to the computer, prior to the restore the computer would boot up, however, it would freeze after the system was up and running. Restarting the computer did not help and when I tried to restore it to an earlier point it said that it was unable to complete the restore. I then tried to the factory reset, however, it gave me an error message: "Recovery Manager could not restore your computer using the factory image. Please contact HP support. Error code: 0xe0ef0003. Hello crossurmind.
What sorts of issues led up to the computer originally not booting? Were you getting a lot of blue screen errors?
The two items you posted from the error log seem to indicate that it is having trouble reading the hard drive and possibly the memory. After trying the restore it seems that it failed causing the boot section of the install to "not be found."
I think you should begin by using the built in tests for the hard drive and memory located in the BIOS. Follow this document to perform the hard drive test. All you'll have to do is repeat the process and select "memory" in order to perform the memory test. Make sure to post the result of both of these tests.
I will await the results; have a great day!

  • How much does it cost to get a webcam installed on a presario CQ56-219wm from HP?

Just Purchased a Presario CQ56-219wm, thought it had a webcam installed, obviously it doesn't ; fooled like many others. How do I get one installed from HP and how much does it cost? Where do you send the computer and how long does it take? Estimates coming from San Antonio, TX. Thanks

    Hi ezpowell,
This laptop doesn't come with a webcam as a hardware item on the specifications.  Did you see in the computer specifications that this laptop had a webcam installed?

  • Bios password started showing up on a presario cq56 -219wm laptop

I am working on a Presario CQ56-219wm which suddenly started asking for a bios pasword (Enter Administrator Password).  If I hit enter 3 times, it give me the code of 82026917.  I know this is a motherboard fault causing this, can some one please give me the code to get into this so I can reset the password in bios?  Appreciate any one's help in advance.

Alright I am working on the same exact laptop (Compaq Presario CQ56-219WM) and I am also trying to get into the BIOS and it is saying the same thing (Enter Administrator Password) I don't have a password set up on this and I am the only administrator. After 3 times of guessing it then says (System Disabled 53546280) What do I do?

  • Bios update fail on Z97 Gaming 7, how to restore?

    Hey all,
Today i decided to reinstall my gaming pc and i also wanted to update the Bios, i was on version 1.4 or 1.5 before i believe.
I downloaded the latest bios for the gaming 7 from the MSI website, bios version 1.8.
When i flashed the bios from the USB stick i got some error, didnt write it down, i pushed a key and the installation continued.
After the flash the pc wanted to reboot and i realised the flash failed, my pc turned on for about 1 sec and off again, so it kept looping like that.
After reading the manual i booted my pc in Bios B (wich still is original i never used it) through the flip switch and my machiene booted up again.
According to the manual i had to make a bootable usb stick and copy the new bios to is to reflash the (failed) A bios.
I made the bootable USB stick with Freecom and copyed the new 1.8 bios to the root of the stick, after powering on my pc in Bios B and booted from the USB stick i switched the switch back to Bios A.
I did everything according to the manual but i get the error that the ROMID isnt compatible with existing ROMID and i think its because of the failed flash in bios A.
Tried flashing Bios 1.8 and 1.6 to make sure 1.8 isnt broken, see attached picture.
What can i do to restore Bios A again so i can safely try to update one of the 2 biosses to the newest version ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Rgds,
    Martijn

A.) Download >>this<< bios archive and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the >>MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< .
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
F.) Boot to the USB from working bios B.
G.) Once it booted successfully switch to bios A without powering down or rebooting
H.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash bios A with desired version

the run in test and memory test fails along with everything else i test

    Hi @nellyb1991 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your Compaq Presario CQ56 Notebook and Windows 7 reinstall. You must use a disk that is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit as that is what came with your system. Here is a link on changing the boot order to use the CD/DVD to boot.
Have you tried F11 on startup and using the HP Recovery Manager?
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Upgrade CPU presario CQ56-219WM

    Hi, I'm considering buying a Presario CQ56-219WM with a Celeron 900 cpu.
According to Intel's website it has the same socket and family as several Core2 duo CPU's that I have sitting in my inventory. The celeron is a single core 2.2ghz, and I'd like to use one of the following Core2 duo.
    T7100    1.8ghz
    T7300    2.0ghz
    T7500    2.2ghz
    T7700    2.4ghz
I really don't think I'd find the machine usable with the celeron, but should do quite nicely once I drop in one of my CPUs, I just don't want any surprises, like a soldered cpu, or a bios that doesn't allow cpu swap, or any similar unforseen issue.
    Your guidence is much appriciated.
    TuuS

Definitely a significant performance improvement. I inherited the laptop with a bad hard drive. After putting a new 7200rpm drive in it and reloading W7 I didn't do much with it with the Celeron 900 processor but it would not even play a 480p Youtube video without stuttering and frame freezes. If you ran Taskmgr the processor was flat out at 100% just trying to pull that off. I had the T7100 sitting around and figured I'd see how hard it was to try it in the laptop. It took me about 45min to get it disassembled and the new processor in it. It runs YT 720p videos just fine now without any interruption and Taskmgr shows 39-50% proc utilization. I find the YT test is a good one because it does a decent job of working the hardware and that's what most folks do with their laptop anyway. It's not Core i7 but it will work just fine for the family member that needed a laptop.

  • Compaq Presario CQ56-219WM keyboard frequently misses letters when I am typing

When I am typing on my Compaq Presario CQ56-219WM I frequently miss letters and spaces.  I have a USB keyboard plugged in, but the missing letters happens on both the laptop's keyboard and the USB keyboard.  I did not notice this issue happening before I installed a Plugable USB 2.0 Universal Laptop Docking Station.  However, I am a bit baffled since this problem happens even when the docking station is not connected and I am just using the integrated notebook keyboard.
I use Windows 7 Home Premium.
Would someone be able to tell me what to do, if anything, to resolve this issue?  It's really frustrating to have to constantly spell check to try and catch the errors!

Hi MrsJP. Try updating the BIOS in your notebook. Go to this link http://goo.gl/rk8CV and select which version of Windows 7 you are using and click next. It will display all downloads available for your notebook, including the BIOS update.
Here http://goo.gl/wTZr6 is a document that will hopefully answer any questions about finding and updating/installing your BIOS.
Please let me know if this fixes your issue or if you need anything else.

  • Can't see post on a Presario CQ56-219WM while using an external monitor

I can't see any post info on a Presario CQ56-219WM while using an external monitor. The built-in monitor has been broken for some time and I've been using an external monitor via the vga port. Recently I had an issue with Windows and must now perform a system recovery. Whereas the built-in monitor does light up there is no portion that is viewable. It's damaged in a way that has everything totally distorted. I disconnected it hoping that the system would reroute directly to the external but unfortunately it didn't. I'm confident that my tinkering inside the laptop wasn't a factor since prior to disassembly the external monitor was never active until the system booted into Windows, plus I can reconnect the built-in monitor and it still lights up just as it did before.
Is there any known keystrokes to activate the external during post?...other than the F4 key

    Hello Kerdomrikman,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
In regards to your question on known keystrokes to activate external during post, there aren't any. The graphics won't switch to external until after the post.
What you can try, if your able to veiw the BIOS on the external you can run diagnostics from there.
I hope this answers your question. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Presario CQ56 win7x64 printer ports gone

I have a presario cq56 win7 x64 that will not print. The printer ports have disapeared from all loaded printers. I get no error mssages. I have run troubleshooters from microsoft and hp and cannot identify the problem. I have tried to reload the printers, no luck. Please help.

In the Devices and printers window, across the top, there is an option "Print Server Properties". This does list a bunch of printer ports. My printer is listed on a usb port. (I have attempted to connect wirelessly and usb). When I attempt to configure the usb port listed, "an error occured during port configuration. This operation is not supported." The TCP/IP port settings open, and with the exception of the port name/ip address, are all configured the same: Protocol - raw, Raw settings - port number 9100, LPR settings - none, SNMP status Enabled - community name - public, SNMP Device Index - 1
There are six TCP/IP ports listed at this point, I have only one brand new Canon printer (MG5300) to get working.
I found another port on the list; CNBJNP_888717B1A30A Canon BJ Network Port. I cannot view properties, or configure this port.
I have entertained a system restore, but cannot go back far enough to get past the problem. (Wife says end of July)
Thanks so much for your help, I'm lost on this one

  • HP Presario CQ56

I have a HP Presario CQ56.  I am running Windows 7.  I performed a disk cleanup and shut it down.  When I turned my laptop back on the screen shows in clue letters "Boot Device Not Found Please install an operating system on your hard disk. Hard Disk - (3FO)
then in white letters it says F2 System Diagnostics
I don't know what this means and I don't know how to fix it.  I need suggestions.

that means Windows is corrupted and now will not boot.
disk cleanup - did you use the system provided "cleanmgr" or just went about your self and removed bunch of seemingly unnecessary files?
If there are no important data to be saved on the hard drive, the best way to recover the system at this point, is probably the the F11 System Recovery option, Hit f11 during boot up (before you get that failure message).
