How to restore bookmarks bar

after an update on September 01, 2011 Bookmarks disappeared even though View->Toolbars->Bookmarks toolbar is checked. Also, it is impossible to add any new webpage to the bar. It just does not appear on the top.
I wonder how to make the Bookmarks bar visible again.

  • 5.1.3 Restoring bookmarks bar and menu ?

I'm running Safari 5.1.3 on imac on 10.7.3
I just synced my ipad to computer.
On my bookmarks bar on the ipad I had only 2 bookmarks. On the computer I had a whole bunch. Same with bookmarks menu.
After the sync, on my computer, it had deleted all the bookmarks on my bookmarks bar, and only left me the 2 that were on the ipad. Same with bookmarks menu.
Seems to have affected bookmarks bar and menu only. Rest of bookmarks are OK.
I have an external backup drive and backed up a week ago. But, have never had to restore anything.
What's the procedure to restore the bookmarks bar and menu in Safari, using time machine?
    Thanks.

The only way is to restore from a useful backup, if you have one.
If you sync the iPad to iTunes and use Time Machine regularly, you would likely have the appropriate backup to restore from. In that case:
Restore the iPad backup set from Time Machine from a date before you overwrote the bookmarks. The location of the backup is ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ (you can get to it by pressing Cmd+Shift+G in the Finder and entering this path).
Connect the iPad, run iTunes and restore from the backup.
If you use iCloud Backup, then you can restore from iCloud and choose which date's backup you'd like to restore from. You can check if you're using iCloud Backup by opening the Settings app on the iPad, then going to the iCloud submenu and looking at the status right below "Storage & Backup", where it would say "iCloud Backup is off." (or "iCloud Backup is on.", as the case may be).
In any case, keep in mind that restoring from a backup means you lose all application data changes after the date of the backup.

  • How to lock bookmarks bar/dock

so i have a couple of older relatives that really dont realize the concept of clicking and dragging. My grandmother really just needs facebook on her browser and its listed as a bookmark in the bar in safari, but once in a while she drags the link out of the bar and makes it disappear, which she blames on the grandkids . I would like to know if there is a way to lock out how to add and take out bookmarks as well as dock items. Maybe I create an admin account and her a user account? Suggestions would be great.
Also, my uncle has a similar problem, except he needs the authority to add and take out bookmarks, just not through dragging off of the bar.
    Thanks for the help.

I believe you could use "Parental Controls" (see System Preferences) to lock the Dock icons in place. About the bookmarks I'm not sure. Maybe just set Facebook as the home page in Safari and not even show the bookmark bar ...

  • How arrange Safari Bookmarks Bar

Using Safari 5.1.3. After I add a bookmark to the Bookmarks Bar, in the Show all Bookmarks window I drag it to the position I prefer. But Safari immediately and automatically moves it back to the top of the list (hence to the far left of the items shown on the Bookmarks Bar itself).
How can I keep items in the order I prefer?
I note that I seem to have no difficulty doing this for bookmarks on the Bookmarks Menu.

Might be corrupted Safari preferences ...
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
    Quit, relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash, If not, just move it back to the Preferences folder.
If that didn't help, go to your Safari menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari. Select  the top 5 boxes, click Reset.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.
You can also try deleting the Cache.db file from the  ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari folder.
It took Reset Safari to fix this (after trying the other methods you recommended).

"ps: My computer has been slow as dirt since I installed Mavericks. And Word 2008 doesn't work with it"
Many older computers will slow dramatically when saddlerd with a newer OS. My practice has been to only "upgrade" when I need something only the newer OS supports. This keeps my older wraps running and the confusion factor down...
If your system is truly "slower than dirt", maybe you need a (new or used) Mac Pro!

  • How to restore bookmarks prior to crash

Mazilla crashed yesterday. The bookmarks are no there. When I try to restore, the only dates available are 9/21 and 9/22. I need the back up from 9/20, or earlier

Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs on each start of Firefox.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there.
you can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
There would normally 10 JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder.<br />
If you have less then check that Firefox didn't create a new profile at some time.

  • How to restore bookmarks after fully uninstalling?

Hello, I accidentally fully uninstalled my firefox and cleared all the settings but I forgot to backup my bookmarks. Can I recover my bookmarks? I need them cause lots of important materials for my work was bookmarked there. Any kind of help will be greatly appreciated. And I used Iobit Uninstaller in advanced mode to uninstall firefox. Please help.

Best is to first find and undelete the previous profile folder and then undelete the bookmarkbackups folder in it with the JSON backups (bookmarks-####-##-##.json)
If you can recover an uncorrupted JSON back then you can use it to restore the bookmarks.

  • I don't have a history option in bookmarks bar... So I cannot delete visited sites from address bar...how do I restore this ?, I don't have a history option in bookmarks bar... So I cannot delete visited sites from address bar...how do I restore this ?

I don't have a history option in bookmarks bar... So I cannot delete visited sites from address bar...how do I restore this ?, I don't have a history option in bookmarks bar... So I cannot delete visited sites from address bar...how do I restore this ?

The history option is the little clock icon at the bottom of the Bookmarks menu - the icon in the center between the open book and the eye glasses icons. You don't have that? Try closing Safari and see if the history option comes back
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
You can also clear the history in Settings>Safari>Clear History.

  • How do I restore "Daily" to bookmark bar

I am pretty spastic with a mouse, started with a keyboard on DOS & even tho it has been awhile since I started using a mouse, I often do something with it that causes me pain.....and this time I did somethiing, 2 clicks or moved it while clicking, but instead of opening "daily", I sent it packing. I'd like it back. I started a new folder in Show All Bookmarks, but I can't seem to place it on my Bookmark Bar. How do I accomplish that? (& I will be more careful with the mouse).
    Thanks for your help.   Linda

There's a specific folder for the bookmarks bar. Presuming you're using Safari, it's called the Favorites Bar. Just add your bookmark to that folder, e.g.:
