How to Restore iCal from Time Machine

Dont now why all my events for next month and future are erase. I want to recover the last time machine back up but dont now how. Can some one bring me the step by step indications?

I'm restoring my partially missing calendar entries from a general Time Machine backup, following FerdII's steps. Just to be helpful, I'll answer the questions about the gear icon and the home folder.
The "Actions" menu (with a Gear icon) appears in any Finder window when you choose Show Toolbar from the View menu. You need to set the Finder window to Show Toolbar before you enter the Time Machine to locate and restore your calendar files -- that will allow you to get at the Actions menu when you're in Time Machine.
@Helicopterdcr -- the Home folder is where the files associated with your User identity are located. In a Finder window, with Show Toolbar set, you'll see your Home folder in the left navigation bar -- it appears under Places and has a house icon. The path to the Calendar folder starts at your Home folder.

  • How to restore files from Time Machine after Clean Install of Mavericks

How to restore files from Time Machine after Clean Install of Mavericks. I know the data is there but seems unaccessable because I may have changed the Computer or Owner name. Is there any way to fix that now?

    Hi Linc,
my back-up data is managed by Time Machine; the actual data is on a second internal Hard Drive with a capacity of 1TB - not partitioned. I am using Time Machine and have access to all data backed up since Mavericks Clean Install but not the data prior to this date.
When I open the 1TB drive in Finder I can see a folder "Backups.backupdb/Sigi's Mac Pro/ followed by many folders of backup dates going back to 2010-09-20-103441 and up to 2014-02-07-142414 all followed with folder Macintosh HD.  February 7th  2014 was the date of the clean install.
These Backups are followed by backup date folder 2014-02-08-075554 with a subfolder of MacPro-320GB (this is the name I assigned to my Boot Drive during formatting; I suspect I should have assigned the same name as before ie. Macintosh HD) and 2014-02-11 with a subfolder Macintosh HD, these are the ones I get access to by way of Time Machine > Restore.
Weird thing is on Febr 11 when I relised my possible mistake and renamed the Bootdrive back to what it was initially ie. Macintosh HD despite this I have access to all backup data since the Clean Install in both folders MacPro-320GB as well as Macintosh HD but not to any data prior to the Clean Install.
Is there something that Time Machine knows and prevents access or is it simply a matter of renaming the subfolder 2014-02-08-07554/MacPro-320GB to ........./Macintosh HD?
I like to restore selectively and not everything - It was hard work reinstalling apps that were supposed to be the troublemakers (ref my discussion on Maverick problems) but I now need to get onto data specific to some of these apps as well as other data I may have missed. Long story? Yes and sorry.

  • How can I restore iCal from time machine

Hi can I restore the data from iCal from time machine?

    The data is in ~/Library/Calendars
The folders have gibberish names; you can't tell which folder is which calendar, so you probably need to restore the entire folder.
But if you have your Calendars synched via iCloud, there may not be anything there, since iCloud is where the "real" data resides.

  • Restoring iCal from Time Machine

I accidently deleted my calendars from iCal and then my blank iCal synced to mobileme and my iPhone so I lost everything. When I try to restore my iCal from Time Machine, it initially shows all my calendars when I open iCal, then it syncs to mobileme and I get a blank iCal again.
    Here's what I do:
    1. Quit iCal.
    2. Delete Calendar folder from Home>Library.
    3. Restore Calendar folder from Time Machine using the gear icon and "Restore to ..."
Then when I open iCal it restores perfectly, then syncs to mobileme and erases again.
After talking to an apple tech, he suggested going into iCal's preferences and deleting the mac.com and trying the above steps again. That doesn't work. I even tried going into System Preferences>MobileMe>Sync>Advanced>Reset Sync Data to replace info on mobileme with sync info from my computer. That didn't work either.
What step am I missing to restore my iCal from Time Machine?

    kanagashi,
You are welcome...thanks for your kind comments.
I'm still having sync issues with MobileMe though, the "On My Mac" calendars aren't syncing to MobileMe.
The "On My Mac" calendars will not sync to MobileMe. Did you complete Roger's checklist under the "Reconnect to the internet. Your MobileMe calendars will disappear as before. Now carry out the following process with each of the 'On My Mac' calendars:" paragraph?
Syncing should be possible after carrying out those steps.

  • How to restore iCal using Time Machine with Lion OS

Just got off the phone with Apple Support.  With Lion, your User/Library/Calendar file is now hidden.  Here is how to find it in order to restore data to your iCal.
    Close iCal
    Open FINDER
Use “GO” button located across top
Hit and hold the OPTION key on your keyboard
You’ll see LIBRARY appear in the list  (this is a hidden file you cannot see otherwise)
    Select LIBRARY
    Select CALENDAR
(you can see all the .calendar files under this item)
    Open/Enter TIME MACHINE
Go to day/time you want to restore back to
Highlight the CALENDAR file (which can now be seen by virtue of your efforts above)
    Select RESTORE from Time Machine
Open iCal to view the updated data.

    Hello,
I've got a dumb question - I've tried this a number of times.  You have given the clearest directions that I've read so far.  However, after trying a number of different dates, it still will not populate.  Most of my calendar entries were done with an iPhone, then synced via iCloud to laptop.  Would that prevent them from being synced to the Time Machine?  I'm at a loss (in more ways than one).
Either way, thanks for the help.

  • Restore iCal from Time Machine - (Lion)

Should be easy - but not for me.
I fell into the trap - upgraded iPad, then synced with the MacPro and somehow some of my bookings got deleted.
(At this stage, I found out how to backup iCal from within the app).
Should be no problem - I meticulously ensure everything is backed up with Time Machine - so no problem at all - but I was forgetting.
For some obscure reason, there's a little (secret?) application of the Option Key required to reveal the Library folder in 'Go'. I cannot seem to replicate this when in Time Machine, so my question is, how do I access my Time Machine backup of iCal so that I can restore it?
    Andy

You have two library folders: one is at the top level (when you open your hard drive) and the other is in your user directory (when you click on your account name in the Users folder). You want the latter.

  • How to restore ical with time machine

I have (some how) lost all of my appointments in my "Work Calendar" within iCal except for one entry (which is strangs).
I have been trying to restore from Time Machine, but, the user interface for iCal through Time Machine is "not easy" to figure out or to use.
I am unable to open the iCal folder as I can do with other ones to restore the data.
How can I do this - I have never been able to do this restore in iCal & Contacts.
Please can any one help me?

Another factor that may be relevant is that I seen iCal appear and disappear from the MobileMe list of things to synch.  It's out of view 99% of the time.
If you are talking about something you see in System Preferences>MobileMe then it's not relevant - iCal does not in fact sync, it reads the calendars directly from the server (though there is by default a cached local copy) and as I said the settings in that prefs pane are nothing to do with iCal any more.
iCal is controlled in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts& Calendars and you should check that your MobileMe login details are correctly entered there - please see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4758
As to the process I detailed, in the first set of numbered instructions, please make sure that when you have exported your MobileMe calendars you import them back into a calendar listed under 'On My Mac' - these cannot be deleted by MobileMe and from your description it sounds as if you may not have done this. Given your problems, I would suggest choosing new name sfor the calendars, at least temporarily.
Then when you reconnect to the internet it should not be possible for MobileMe to delete the calendars and you can proceed with the next steps.

  • Restore iCal from Time Machine Backup

How do I restore iCal from a Time Machine backup?
I read that I was could restore from the following folder: ~/Library/Application Support/iCal
But this folder doesn't exist on my system.
    Any ideas?

    From home folder: library/calendars.
Then get this update. A senior tech at Apple today had me get this more comprehensive update and it restored all my calendar entries which were totally gone. I restored the calendars folder then did the update. Problem fixed. You need this update anyway.

  • Restoring iCal from Time Machine/Older HD

SO here's the deal. I upgraded my harddrive in my MBP over the weekend. Doubled it size to 500GB joy! What I decided to do once I got a blank copy of Lion on it was to restore just the user info, system settings and "other files" from the Time Machine back up I have (not from the old hard drive). Allowing me to install only the Applications I would really need after all my user info was on the computer and clearing up some more space.
    This worked GREAT!
When I opened my iCal I had duplicate calendars. So, I deleted some of the duplicates. Apparently I deleted the wrong ones, and now ALL my calendars are gone. And before you ask, no, I didn't setup my TimeMachine (I decided to test things out before erasing that backup and start fresh with my new system)
BUT, I still have the old Time Machine backup AND I still have my old/smaller HD hooked up via USB.
My question is, where can I grab the iCal info from (Time Machine or my old HD) or do I need to start the process all over again just to get my calendars back?
    Thanks in advance

New development... I was going to recreate my calendars while I waited and I found that I couldn't name a new calendar the same as one of my deleted calendar... (ie: I couldn't recreate a calendar called "Home") so, by going into preferences and digging around a little I found something strange? Under my default calendars it shows my current list of calendars, but my reminders shows all my OLD (deleted) calendars?? (see images)
SIDE NOTE (I'm only concerned with the top iCloud account

  • Trouble restoring ical from time machine

My iCal has somehow been corrupted.  It shows up to the present month, but when I select the next month (October 2012), the calendar won't change and the name of the month dissapears. Subsequent months also fail to appear.
I thought of attemping to restore an earlier version of my calendar to solve my problem.  After closing iCal (and every other program I had open) I went into Time Machine and selected previous calendar files to be restored by going into Home > Library > Calendars and selecting restore on the entire "Calendar" folder.  After restoring the folder, I opened iCal and it was restored to my earlier calendars and cycled through the months like it normally should.  Within three minutes, though, it reverted to my corrupt calendar(s).
I then deleted the "Calendars" folder from my laptop (Home > Library> Calendars) and once again restored from Time Machine. After restoring the earlier calendars, I unplugged my external hard drive backup before opening iCal.  Again, when I first opened iCal, it worked normally, but within a couple of minutes my corrupt calendar(s) popped up again and iCal once again refused to cycle through future months.
My questions are, am I doing the restore wrong?  Where is iCal restoring the corrupt calendars from after I restored earlier calendars from Time Machine?
    Here are my system specs:
    MacBook Pro 2.8 Ghz Intel
    4 GB Ram
    500 GB Hard Drive
    iCal version 4.0.4
Thank you in advance for any help!

I just had a hard disk crash, and had to do it.  I couldn't figure it out until I called Apple Support, my support guy put me on hold and then told me about Migration Assistant.  I guess they lose so few full disks, they don't include a full disk restore out of the Time Machine interface.  Give me bonus points for remembering that you had the same question and coming back to answer it.
Glad it worked for you.  So nice to have everything back, just like it was when you lost your disk.  I really like the Time Machine.  When you need it, you need it.

  • How to restore OS from time machine to a non-booting Mac HD

My Mac HD has been playing up for some time and today it finally decided to not work at all. This was after I had installed 10.7.3 yesterday. I booted from my OS Leopard CD and installed it on my second HD which is usually used for data storage.  I did try to restore the Mac HD from my Time Machine backup but I kept getting errors and the computer (MacPro early 2008 model - 6gb ram, 300gb HD)  kept rebooting.
So the computer now boots from the second HD and I have repaired the Mac HD and verified it but it still will not boot.  How can I use Time Machine to restore the system to the now non-booting Mac HD?  When I try, it wants to do a backup of the new booting second HD which doesn't have all of my apps, docs etc (which are all on the Mac HD still).
    Thanks

On the second HD, I'm using 10.5.8 (couldn't find my Snow Leopard disk) while the corrupted Mac HD had the latest 10.7.3.  I did try migration assistant but it didn't work, I guess because the 2 operating systems are different.  I will spend time today to try and find my Snow disk and upgrade and then upgrade again to my download version of Lion - on the second HD. When I look at the Mac HD it appears to be intact (that is, all files seem to be there) so I don't know why it can't boot unless on one of my migration attempts, something has gone awry.  I still have Apple Care on the machine and have put in a service request so will see what happens from there.
    Thanks for the help.

You don't get all files you need from Time Machine. Do a reinstallation and updates from you iWork disc or if you bought from AppStore install from AppStore but then you have to uninstall first.

If you have a license for Lightroom, you should be able to reinstall it from an installer disc or re-download it from Adobe after explaining the situation and clarifying the license issues. Either will be simpler than trying to extract and install it from a TM backup of a different Mac, I think. If it's anything like other Adobe products, it has bits and pieces all over the place that you'll have to find and put in their right places on your girlfirend's Mac.
