How to restore individual files from a TM backup after a clean install?

Hi to all,
my teenage daughter's Mac Mini (running OSX 10.8) was cluttered with all sorts of stuff, even unwanted and inappropriate popup windows when using Safari, and more. So I made a final TM backup. Then I did a clean install of Mavericks.
Now, I wanted to bring back individual files and folders from that TM backup, BUT...
going to Migration Assistant, I realized that it would overwrite the clean install and bring back the clutter. This is no option.
going to TM, I realized I wasn't able to select any of the snapshots from the timeline
going to the external drive containing the TM backup with Finder, all folders within her "old" user.folder showed a small red stop-sign, which I learned is an issue with permissions. I wasn't able to restore manually.
What to do now?
I know I could restore the cluttered state and copy folders and files manually to an external drive, make another clean install of Mavericks, then copy manually from that external drive. This seems a lot of time and work to me.
Is there an easier way?

When I go back to the backup it does not let me go back to the previous backupprobably because the last backup was Lion and I am on Mt. Lion now. don't what to do another backup if that is going to mess up the old one. I can access it though by just going to it. If it backed up the lock file, then Lightroom was open when Time Machine ran, and the backup therefore may be corrupted. You could try restoring that backup (without overwriting your week ago version) and see if it'll open. If it does, you're off and running. What methods have you tried?

What is the table you want to restore?
Using export/import is supported with Oracle Apps database (for full database exp/imp, and certain schemas like custom ones). For the Apps schema, I believe it is not supported due to object dependencies and integrity constraints.

That's so STUPID!
iCloud syncs my contacts, calendars and reminders, but i have to setup all the rest of the settings manually! I have 7 email accounts, mix of gmail, hotrmail, yahoo, 2 exchange, others, etc. lots of personalized settings, Apps that i need to download again and arrange in folders like before, ......big hassle!!!

[SOLVED] How to Restore Folders/Files from a Hard Drive

I broke my system today; it won't boot into any run level. Rather than try to fix it, I'd like to just pull off the 4 or 5 MB of files that are on the hard drive. The partition they are in was formatted XFS. I have the 2008.06 ArchLive CD - is it possible to access files from the hard drive after booting with an ArchLive CD? If so, I could just scp them to an external server. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You should be able to mount the partition once you've loaded up the live CD. Just figure out which one it is by using
fdisk -l
then mount it to /mnt or wherever you want it.
As for moving/saving them, I'm not entirely sure how to get them onto an external server. You might have to mount another partition in order to install any apps that you need to connect to an external server, but wait for someone who really knows to answer before you try it. If you're only talking about 4 or 5 MB, I would just mount a USB stick and dump them on there.

hi Apple store today reinstalled OS as system was not operating well. Was told I could restore emails, files etc from time machine.
So far all I,ve been able to fnd is some jpg,
How do i reinstate email iphoto and itunes individually
if i just reinstal the whole image will end up with the same problem

you can do it but it has to be done in two steps. first, make a TM backup. to speed things up just choose 'backup now" from the TM menu. next, do a full system restore by booting from the leopard install dvd. once the system is restored log out of your current account and log into another admin account. create one using system preferences->accounts. then go to the folder /users at the top level of the drive and restore the home directory of your main user from the most recent TM backup available. then log into your main account and all your recent data will be there.

How to restore data files from a purchased app that isn't working

I recently had to reset my iPad after an ios7 problem with hyperlinks. The reset fixed the hyperlink problem but now I can't open excel or word files created in a purchased application, productivity suite. When I click on the file, it starts to open then switches back to the app icon. Tried deleting and reinstalling the app and now all the files are gone from my iPad. I backed up my iPad to my desktop before deleting the app but can't figure out how to restore just the files I need.

Find the location of iTunes Media folder from Advanced tab in iTunes' Preferences on your computer. Then copy the music from the Norton backup to the iTunes Media folder on the computer.

How to restore many files from trashcan?

I unintentionally deleted thousands of files from "all files".
They are now in my trashcan. I want to restore them but can only restore a few at a time. This is frustrating and time-consuming.
Does anyone know an efficient way to restore them all in one go?

I have a TM backup (on a QNAP NAS), from a Snow Leopard Mac Book Pro that I no longer have. I now have a 2011 iMac with Lion pre-installed on it.
How can I access the Time Machine backup from the Snow Leopard MBP to restore some files?
When I look at the TM backups on my QNAP web gui, I can see the backups, but the TM on my Lion iMac doesn't see the SL backup. I can't even see where you would tell the Time Machine software to use a different backup source to restore from. TM preferences pane is pretty plain jane.
