How to restore iphone from an old back up not listed?

Hello,
I've read all through this forumn but still can't quite work out my problem - which is probably simple for peeps with apple smarts...
i backed up my iphone last week on my laptop in anticipation of updating to iSO5.0.1.
so today I updated to 5.0.1 on my home desktop, and could have sworn i backed up correctly, but it didn't so it restored to a year ago, it had -50 error now that i think about it.
i thought its still okay as i knew i had a recent backup on my laptop. When i connected my iphone, it synced and apparently backed it up. now cant seem to work out how to restore to an older back up - it only list the one today.
can someone tell me how i can restore to a back up that is not listed (only todays is) as i really want my contacts and calendar back?
any help would be greatly appreciate,
jackie

i need to restore it from an earlier back up... is this possible???
It isn't an issue if you still have the backup, either on your computer or in the iCloud. You cannot restore to a backup that you have deleted.

  • How to restore iphone from an older back up

I have just upgraded my iphone 4s to IOS7. somehow my back up was not picked up properly after the installation.
I still have the old back up in the folder C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup.
How can i restore my iphone from this back as the option is not coming on the itunes version 11.1.0.126. i need my messages, contacts and pictures as they have all been lost.
    Please assist

Restore the device again, when prompted to restore as new or from backup select from backup.  iTunes will then prompt with the available backup options to restore from.
Sounds like you may have elected to not use the device as designed.
Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.  If this had been done it would be a simply matter of syncing the back.
Relying on an iPhone for sole storage of pictures/videos is extremely unintelligent.  Like with all digital cameras, pictures/videos taken with the device should be copied off the device to a computer regularly to ensure they are not permanently lost in the event the device is lost/stolen or simply fails.

How can I restore iPhone from iCloud backup with out resetting my iPhone

The only way to restore an iCloud backup is to start by erasing the phone.   Go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Conent and Settings, go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup.

  • How to restore iPhone from a backed up backup

A customer of mine recently had her iPhone fail and has just received a replacement. During setting it up it seems she overwrote her previous backup and lost all her data. How that is even possible boggles the mind but luckily I had insisted on a previous occasion that she invest in some online backup. Happily this allowed me to retrieve a previous backup folder that does contain all her stuff. Now I can access all that stuff via iPhone backup extractor so I know it is a valid backup set that contains everything she needs  BUT naturally she would prefer to have it all restored to her phone.
Sadly this old backup is not visible to iTunes and iTunes does not give us the option of restoring from another folder or a previous backup.
I tried replacing the contents of the current backup folder with the contents of the older one and restoring but that didn't work. The backup seemed to restore OK but none of the old stuff was copied back. Interestingly a new folder with a new UUID was created in there (unfortunately I didn't have time to try overwriting that folder).
So the question is: how can I restore this backup?
    Best regards,
    Roger

  • Restoring iPhone from an iTunes backed up on an External Harddrive

I deleted all of my old "restore iphone" devices not realizing that I was deleted my current one as well. I am having trouble locating Mobilsync in my MacHD and in my external HD where everything is backed up. I used the scripts you put in the terminal and etc etc but still no luck in being able to find MobileSync.
So heres my question. How can I restore my itunes that is backed up on my external so when I connect my iphone I can just restore it from one of the previously restored iphone.
Idealy I would like to just find mobilesync on my MacHD since that would have my most recent backed up iphone data. however, ill take an older backed up file from my external seeing how i have nothing on my iphone right now..
Another thing is that I dont care about pictures or music. I just need all my contacts back and dates saved in my calender.
I have not backed anything up onto iCloud.
    Thank you,
    P

The Mobilesync files are in a hidden folder in your user folder. In the "Go" Finder menu, select "Go To Folder..." and in the resulting text field type
    /Users/yourusername/Library
and click "Go". This will open your hidden Library file. In the "Applications Support" folder you will find the Mobilesync files.  Open up the same folder in your backup and drag & drop the files into the current Mobilesync folder. That will restore your backed up backup files. Then start iTunes and hopefully they will show up.
    Good luck.

  • How to restore iPhone from previous backup

Hi all, I'm really hoping someone can help me.  I tried updating the OS for my iphone thru iTunes.  It backed up my phone,
then tried to do a restore (said time left was 19 hours - this lasted for about 7 hours before I unplugged the phone from computer).
I have located the last backup I would to be restored to my phone but when I plug my phone in to the computer and try to do a
'restore backup' it says the phone does not have any backups.  iTunes does not recognize the last back up, how do I get it to recognize
it?  I have lost everything off the phone and now it looks like a new phone to iTunes.  HELP someone please!!  Thank you!

When you activated and setup your new 5S, you should've had the option to restore from your backup.
If you have no data on your 5S - then go to settings - general - reset - erase all contents and settings - this will wipie your phone clean as new.  Go thru the setup and you'll see restore from backup or set up as new, choose the icloud backup.

  • How to restore iphone from backup?

I recently updated to 4.1 but lost all my contacts... how can I restore them from my itunes backup? thanks

Maybe, unless there is a problem with your iPhone's backup and it sounds like there is a problem with it or you wouldn't have lost any contacts.
Although contacts are included with your iPhone's backup, contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book application on your computer and should be available on your computer with or without an iPhone or any cell phone. Not a good idea to depend on your cell phone alone for this data, which can be lost or stolen.
To restore your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup, select Restore under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. When prompted to update your iPhone's backup, as the first step after selecting Restore, decline this prompt.
Go to iTunes > Preferences. Under the Devices tab, how many backups are shown? If more than one, what is the date and time shown for each backup? If there is more than one backup, you may not want to select the current backup - select a previous backup when restoring your iPhone with iTunes. After the firmware is re-installed, you will be prompted to restore from the backup, which is the default selection. If there is more than one backup available, the most recent backup will be selected by default. If more than one backup is available, you can select from another or previous backup.

  • How to restore iPhone from backup, not working right

Hello, today I updated my iPhone to the latest version (6.1.2?) and after it was finished, or not finished, it came up on my PC saying it could not be updated and had to be restored for some reason. So, I restored it, knowing my phone backs up everytime I sync it. It last restored at 4 o clock today, before I updated it. So, I went to restore from backup, it started, ran for about a minute, then popped up saying it could not be restored from backup because the backup could not be found on my computer. I see the backup very clearly on my iTunes, it's there. Now it shows up like a new iPhone and it's wiped out. I had very important documents on my notes, plus text messages I needed, and this isn't working. I'm livid about this, please help.

please help, I accidentally empty my iPhoto trash bin, and i do not have backup, how do i restore my photos ?(go back in 2 weeks)....and i did not have iCloud. Please help, thanks.

Look in the system trash - with iPhoto '11 when you empty the iPhoto trash the photos go to the system trash
If you have emptied both then you need professional data recovery or a program like file salvage

  • How to restore iphone from a certain backup file?

This is for a iphone 4s.
I have located the backup files on my PC, which is under some geberrish file name in my hard drive. I have two backup files, one from 1 week ago, one from this week. How can I choose to restore from the file that I backed up a week ago?
I tried plugging the phone in and go through itunes, but itune only gave me the option to restore from the backup file from this week (which is no good because the new backup file has nothing in it for some reason, 0MB of file ).
    PLEASE HELP!! THANK YOU!!

I think when you elect to restore in itunes it asks you which backup you want to use if you connect your phone to itunes and right click (for PC) then clcik restore you might get to choose

  • Restoring Contacts from an old back up on time machine

My son wiped my contacts by backing up his iPhone using the same apple id. Now all my devices and iCloud backups seem to have his contacts list and mine has disappeared.
I should have older version on my time machine but can't seem to access it. any advice?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can't access to backups. If you want to access to their data, you have to restore that backup on a device

  • How to restore Ipad from previous backup that is not the restore list?

I did a firmware update for Ipad from 5.1.1 to 6.1
I backup my Ipad before I did it at 4.46am
Then I restore my Ipad so it will install IOS 6.1
However I accidentally set it up as new device with a differrent name (default suggested by itune which is "AL's Ipad")
Then I try to select my previous backup called "Ipad 3"
But I cant see "Ipad 3" from my restore list.
So can I restore my "Ipad 3" backup?

If you went through the process of restoring your iCloud backup, then tapped Show Older Backups when asked which backup to restore to and the backup you're looking for isn't listed, there's no way to recover it.  You could check to see if you have an older backup on your computer that would have the data you're looking for by opening iTunes and going to Setting>Devices and checking the Backups list.

  • How can i restore my iPhone from an older back-up?

    Hi there,
Recently, my iPhone 4 was restored by Apple. When I plugged my iPhone in to iTunes it automatically synced and did a back-up. It then restored my phone with the apps and music that were on my phone at the time of the last back-up, however not with the contacts or photos.
Is there any possible way to restore my iPhone with the photos and contacts that were on my phone at the time of the last back-up? Is there a way to restore your iPhone from an older back-up (not the latest one)? Please help!! PLEASE!!

    Hi AnaMusic,
Thanks for your reply. I don't really understand your answer though. I plugged my iPhone into iTunes with the intention of restoring from my latest back-up as I have lost all my photos and contacts on my phone. However, when I plugged it in it automatically did a sync and a back-up. Now when I click restore from back-up it just restores to what I have on my iPhone now, because that was the latest back-up (it did it automatically). Do you understand what I mean?
What I am wondering is whether or not I am able to restore my contacts and photos from my last iTunes back-up (before today's one)?
    Thanks.
P.S - My photos and contacts did not save to Address Book and iPhoto if that helps.
