  • Restoring itunes after a crash

    Hi, fellow itunes users!
A few months ago,I expierenced some major crashing problems. My computer went down, and I lost ALL of my files and docs, including itunes!
If you have any tips on how to restore it, that would be great!

Help! I think my Dell laptop memory maxed out while playing Holiday playlist, iTunes started skipping, so I closed everything out and powered down. This morning, iTunes came up totally empty, no playlists, nada... I did the restore iTunes library procedure a couple times, no luck either. I do have a remote HD with all music files backed up but don't think I have iTunes library files backed up. I might have prior iTunes library files from several years ago, but I've added tons of music and customized playlists in recent years. I suspect iTunes bonked when memory ceiling was reached, so I relieved the memory space condition. How do I restore my vast playlists? Any help much appreciated at Holiday time..

  • Reward offered for helping me restore ITUNES after a crash

please help. I have looked everywhere on my PC and am using windows XP. It tells me it has been defaulted to a MY MUSIC folder but cannot find that either. Please. If you can help restore my ITUNES I will make it worth your time. I have paypal. thanks. I will be more that happy to reward some one. Am at wits end.

I remember a lot of the songs I had. I did not know the computer had a problem (ITUNES was open at time of crash)and I saw that the screen was blue and had writing on it. I decided to shut it down. After 5 minutes I rebooted and discovered my itunes library had vanished. The logo is still on the desktop but all it says is that itunes cant be found unless you go to default MY MUSIC folder. It wasnt there. Jeff

  • Restoring iTunes after computer crash

One day, I hooked my iPod up to my computer and it told me that a couple hundred songs were not authorized to play on this computer. Then it removed them from my iPod, but left them in iTunes. Those songs were every single purhcase I had ever made on iTunes.
Later that day, my computer started freaking out. I made a copy of that purchased music to CD, and a few minutes later, my computer crashed and burned.
After reinstalling Windows XP Professional, I imported the burned music into iTunes. However, when I hook up iPod to the computer, it tells me that iPod can only sync to one library at a time, and do I want it to erase everything on the iPod (all of my music that wasn't purchased at iTunes) and overwrite it with everything on my current library. I tell it no, because I don't want it to erase everything on the iPod.
So how do I get to it actually "sync" by adding what's on my iPod to my iTunes library, and what's in my iTunes library to my iPod, without having to erase everything on my iPod?

"how do I get to it actually "sync" by adding what's on my iPod to my iTunes library, and what's in my iTunes library to my iPod....."
You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod, the transfer of purchased content has recently been introduced with iTunes 7. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

For more on the new function in iTunes 7 look under under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" which transfers iTMS purchases. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
"....without having to erase everything on my iPod?"
If your iPod is set to update automatically you just need to take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • How to restore iTunes after music files erased

So, I accidentally erased all my music files which were stored on an external hard drive. (Bone headed move, don't ask). Thankfully, all the files were backed up. I restored the external hard drive with all the music files but am not sure what the next move is. Couple of questions:
First, the iTunes application still has all my songs listed. Of course, when I click one, it says it cannot locate the file since, of course, the original file was accidentally deleted. If I simply re-import all the files from my backup harddrive will I have essentially duplicates of every song I have? That is to say 1 file that won't play and one file that will?
Second, should I erase the entire songlist from iTunes and then re-import?
    Third, any other suggestions?
I backed everything up on TimeMachine.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi Jim,
    Thanks for the reply.
Not sure how I would go about restoring the itl file.
The only files I lost were the actual music files. The hard drive with theiTunes application and other itunes files are fine and untouched but since the original files were deleted, iTunes can't locate them. (Unless I point it toward the restored drive one-by-one)
    Does that make sense?
    Thanks,
    John

  • How to restore sys after disk crash

Have HP Pavillion dv9500 laptop with Vista Op System. I had disk crash. Not recoverable. No recovery disks. I have ordered a refurbished exact same disk drive 120GB. How do I reload operating system onto refurbished disk and get system operable?  I have a windows 7 home op system disk and license. Can I install the windows 7 or do I have to find a vista op system? What are the steps required to make laptop operable again?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I don't know the damage of the old HDD therefore can't not say much. Now you've got new HDD, new OS (Windows 7 disc), my suggestion: install Windows 7 to new HDD from scratch and work out how to recover data/files on the old HDD. If no physical damage, you can recover data from it then use it as an external HDD such as put it in an enclosure.
    Happy New Year.

  • How to restore iTunes file

How to restore iTunes when the file is incomplete and does not present all information.

Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not all media formats are available in all countries (see: iTunes in the Cloud, iTunes Match, and iTunes Radio availability by country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085); apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this).  Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones, audiobooks), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple recommends,  "You always back up your iTunes library in the event that a purchased item is no longer available on the iTunes Store," (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519).
You may need to delete the entry completely from the library first before re-downloading or it will think the file is still on your computer.

    Hi
Can anyone please help me with some advice about how to restore my iTunes purchases after my Mac crashed. Its a bit more complicated than it sounds given that I changed my Apple ID about 18months before the crash. All purchases under the current Appled ID have been restored. However, everything that I bought under my first Apple ID has not been restored.  How can i get this fixed?
    Thanks
