How to restore mac air late 2010 to its factory settings?

To restore the Late 2010 MacBook Air to factory settings:
1. Insert the OS X thumb drive that came with your computer, hold the Option (Alt) key while your computer is starting and choose your USB drive.
2. Choose your language, and go to Utilities menu > Disk Utility.
3. Select "Macintosh HD" on the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk. This will delete everything that it's in the hard drive.
4. Close Disk Utility and reinstall Mac OS X. Remember to install the iLife applications from the thumb drive after installing OS X

    Hi Jeannette,
If you have the newest MacBook Air then you would have received a USB "thumb drive" with the OS installation media on it. You'd want to plug that into one of your available USB ports and run the installer. If your MacBook Air is a generation or two old then it would have come with DVD installation media. You'd need an external DVD drive (USB) or to configure Disc Sharing with another computer (Mac or PC).

    Hi, Mommacat26.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This usually means that a required component is missing.  Start with completely uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below.  Once this is done, download and install iTunes.

If you receive any errors when uninstalling any components of iTunes, try the steps in the article below for each component that gives you an error.

If the issue persists, try installing the Apple Mobile Device Support driver.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows XP or Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

  • The keyboard /mouse unresponsive in yosemite on my Mac Air Late 2010

How do I fix the problem of lack of responsiveness with my keyboard/mouse after installing yosemite on my late 2010 Mac Air?  Losing typing ability in mid sentence!!

If the following doesn't work, then there is a server error.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • New mac air late 2010?

Hello .I just got my 13.3 macbook air today. Is this the late 2010 model, If not how would i find out. Also there is a very slight small scuff on the top of the mac near the apple logo.It does not bother me because its so small and not noticeable unless you look real hard and close but my question is did i get a new Macbook air or a one that has been returned and repackaged .What happens to the Macbook airs that are returned during the 14 day period that are working perfect but are returned because the person who bought it does not like it.Are they repackaged and sold as new or are they considered refurbs. How can i tell if anyone else had my macbook air before me .It was sealed but the tiny scuff makes me wonder .So does the batter health. It states it has had 2 cycles.Thank you in advance for your help.

Not by Apple. Opened items can be sold as opened items, but then that is patently obvious to the buyer who usually receives a discount. Returned items are generally returned to Apple because the vendor doesn't really know if it is working properly. Apple does their thing then when enough are available will start offering them as refurbs. So a refurb might just be a repackaged unit that was returned in perfect working order. Or it may be a truly defective unit with a new motherboard installed.
But once a unit is opened in the store (e.g., demo) or returned in an opened box it cannot be resold as new. That is a consumer law. However, if a buyer returns a unit within 14 days unopened per the warranty then the unit is still new and sealed and may be resold as such.
Thank you Very much for your awnser.I Guess that tiny Scuff is an slight imperfection or maybe made during assembly. Its so small and not even noticeable .I guess i'm just being picky.Have a great Holiday

  • If I restore my iPod 4th generation to its factory settings, will iOS 6 still be installed?

I mistakenly updated my iPod to iOS 6 and I wanted to restore it hoping it would downgrade back to iOS 5. Soo if I restore my iPod 4th genartion, will iOS 6 still be installed?

No, it would not revert to iOS 5. Restoring only means removing your personal settings, apps and other things. it would not downgrade the iOS version.

  • How the **** do I restore my grandaughter's ipod touch to factory settings? Please help. I have tried the itunes thing and it just goes in circles!!

I had the same problem a few days ago - just let it keep circling as it will eventually stop.  Make sure it's plugged into the computer and walk away.  Check on it periodically and do whatever the stupid thing says to do.  I think mine "circled" about 5 times before it finally worked. . .

Read and follow the Bootcamp Installation instructions that you were offered to view when you ran Bootcamp Assistant.
Run Bootcamp Assistant again and select the option to download the Bootcamp Support software. Follow the instructions. Then boot into Windows and install the Windows Support software you downloaded and saved.

  • Help, how to downgrade my macbook air late 2010 from os x yosemite to snow leopard

A very good friend just updated my Macbook Air late 2010 (OS Snow Leopard) to OS X Yosemite. Now my Macbook air is messed up. No sound. Left shift key not working.and so forth. I am wondering if I can return it back to my previous OS?
How to return it to my previous OS? Please help me. No need to back up anything, as everything is in my dropbox.

    1. Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Select Disk Utility from the main menu. Click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. When formatting finishes quit DU. Select Reinstall Lion from the main menu and click on the Continue button.

  • Battery issues with MAC Book Air (late 2010)

Since I updated my MAC Book Air (late 2010) to the latest OS X 10.6.8. the battery is empty after 2.5 hours. Before it worked for approx. 6 hours. Whats your experience?

I have been having the same issues as well. I downloaded Coconut battery to see the status of my battery, but it just clocks down very quickly still. I have disabled flash on Safari as well, and still I am charging my machine 2-3 times a day during the day.

Is the apple tv on the latest firmware? and also make sure it is on (white light is on). I know that sounds stupid, but it will go to sleep if you let it sit long enough and i have seen many cases where you cannot acces it via airplay if it is asleep.

  • MacBook Air Late 2010 and Apple Hardware Test

I just bought a second hand MacBook Air Late 2010, 13 inches, 2.13 Core 2Duo. Everything works great, system re-installed after erasing the HD ( Mountain Lion) Internet recovery works great, all is ok.
The only thing that I can't work out how to get is AHT. I tried holding down D at the start but nothing. Holdind down D and Alt takes me to the Internet Recovery harware test, but when I try to run it, it comes out that the machine is not supported. I read that to be able to use it, I needed to dowload a firmware update. And so I did. But when I tried to install it it came out that it was not going to work on my system ( bare in mind that I can access and use Internet Recovery)
    What Am I doing wrong?
I'm not too bothered about being able to use  AHT at the moment, but there will be time when I will need to.
All the help will be appreciated.

It has to be available. It is the only way to restore that system back to as shipped from factory specs and reinstall the ilife apps. In your situation since you have another mac and a valid license for mountain lion and you have a air of a newer model year that can use the internet recovery system you were able to install a version of os x. But if you didn't have a license and that air was just one revision prior to that model year you would be stuck with a computer and no working os on it or no valid os on it.
Basically when anyone is selling an mac computer that computer should be wiped and the original os x version reinstalled. To do that on system older then late 2011, or some of the early 2011 models, you need the original apple supplied reinstall media. Whether that is dvds or a usb thumb drive. Otherwise the seller is selling pirated software and the buyer has no way of updating or upgrading that mac computer.
