how to restore macbook pro 10.7.2 to original settings .. step by step.. in the disk utility what to erase?

If the computer came with OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard installed,
you have to erase the drive and install OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
You can buy 10.6 Snow Leopard disc from Apple Store for 20 dollars;
Apple Store: 1-800-692-7753.
Best.

To restore the Late 2010 MacBook Air to factory settings:
    1. Insert the OS X thumb drive that came with your computer, hold the Option (Alt) key while your computer is starting and choose your USB drive.
    2. Choose your language, and go to Utilities menu > Disk Utility.
    3. Select "Macintosh HD" on the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk. This will delete everything that it's in the hard drive.
    4. Close Disk Utility and reinstall Mac OS X. Remember to install the iLife applications from the thumb drive after installing OS X

  • Macbook pro will not restart. goes straight to disk utility

I was logging in and the MBP would not boot up without correctly. Came up to a Disk Utility recovery screen. Have gone through all the options from permissions repair to disk repair to reinstalling the OSX Lion (and it updated directly form apple site). The weird part is that much of the functions work, just incredibly slow. The dock is missing and won't come up. The system profiler after it runs, acts like there are no applications on the machine. It will ID and provide inof about the system, the disk, the CD/DVD drive, bluetooth, etc., but when "applications" is selected, it returns "no info"...this all sounds like a disk problem but I have much information on the disk I can't loose...HELP! After several tries I have managed to get it to the point of at least booting up off the HD and not just the CD. However, after putting in user password it just spins the color swirl for a very long time and then goes to the same grey desktop...

Because you haven't made a TM backup in a month, this presents a lot of problems, likely the easiest is to use another Mac and Firewire Target Disk Mode (Firefire 800/400 cable and adapter if needed) to get the latest copy of your files off the machine.
If the TimeMachine backup has 10.7.2 on it, you can boot from the TM drive that has Lion Recovery and use Disk Utility there to erase the drive and restore the TM image with, then boot and update your files from the other Mac.

You can also hold command and r keys and boot into Lion Recovery on the internal boot drive and attempt repairs there and a TM restore.

  • How to restore macbook pro?

I want to reset my macbook pro to change its keyboard settings. But i just want to know how to change the forward/backward,play/pause and volume keys to normal because they will not work now.
    HELP!!!!

Do you know what model you have (i.e, "late 2011" or "8,2")? You need to call Apple at 1-800-MYAPPLE and order the installation disc(s) that shipped with your unique model. Then you can boot from the install disc, reformat the hard drive, and install everything just as it was when it was new.
    Good luck,

  • How to prepare macbook pro 13" 2011 for sale without any disks?

I am selling my MacBook Pro and would like to know how to completely erase all my information from the laptop? So the the person purchasing can open it like if they barely bought it.

Depending what information is on your hard drive, you may want to take out the hard drive and smash it with a sledge hammer. Just because information is deleted, doesnt mean its gone. The computer just treats the space as empty and will write over it when it needs the space. Informations can still be recoverable even when it is written over. Poeple make their livings off of buying computers or hard drives people sell, digging through the hard drive and finding old information, and using it. They could find your passwords, credit card numbers, social security number, anything that you put on there. So be careful what has been on hard drives when you sell them.

  • How do I reboot my Macbook Pro back to its original factory settings on all fronts

I am finishing college and want to wipe my Macbook Clean, delete everything and start over, any one have some helping solutions?

Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • I was resetting my macbook pro 17 (early 2009) to factory settings but does not restore due to a problem with the restore disk. Please advice me on what to do next.

I was resetting my macbookpro 17 (early 2009) to factory settings but was indicating problems on the restore disk.  I erased my macintosh hd drive so the hd is empty.  What do I do next?

Get an external drive and make a clone of your internal, erase the internal, set it for 1 partition (OSX Journaled) and restore the clone.
