How to restore mail account from time machine

Hi there,
I would like to restore all my accounts and mails from the time machine. Unfortunately it doesn't seem that either Mail or time machine give this option.
Is this possible?
Thanks in advance

  • HT201250 How to restore email accounts from time machine backup?

I'm attempting to recover email accounts that were lost in a clean install.  I have opened mail, launched time machine and accessed the latest backup.  I selected restore.  It appears that all of the archived mail on my mac was recovered, but not the accounts (there are three.)  Do I have to recreate the accounts manually or is there a way to restore them?

My Macbook Pro hard drive crashed, and I want to restore my backed-up mail files from Time Capsule onto my Desktop Mac (iMac 27").  When I try to restore by opening Time Capsule with Mail already open, I can only see the current mail files on the iMac (not the backed up files on the MacBook Pro), even when I point to the MacBook Pro backup file.

  • How to restore iPhoto pictures from time machine

Knowing this:  " When using iPhoto ’11 (version 9.2 or later) and Time Machine with OS X Lion 10.7.2 (or later), iPhoto no longer has the Browse Backups option. This means that instead of restoring specific photos within your iPhoto Library, you must restore your entire iPhoto Library."
I need to restore from the July 2012 backup iPhoto library a few photos, no more than 50, I guess I need some guidance on how to prevent my current iPhoto library to be overwritten with the contents of an old library, thus erasing all of the pictures I have taken since, that's 2 years ago.
Should I create a *new* iPhoto library, and restore it with the contents from the time machine? I suppose that once the *new*  has been restored then I can pick up the pictures and export these to my current library.
I need to be cautious as to how I can do this, I do not want to loose the thousands of pictures I have in my current library and would appreciate if what I intend to do will bring the results I want to have.
    Thanks

When you restore the library, use the "Restore to" function and not the "Restore". This will let you select a different folder, or if you do not have enough disk space, restore to a different disk. Then open the restored library by double clicking it and export the photos you need to restore.
Double click your current library to switch back to your current library and import the restored photos.

Others have reported that problem. Post that question in the Time Machine forum as it may be more TM related that iPhoto.

  • How to Restore iTune Liberaries from Time Machine

My MacBook Pro needs to replace.  I have Time Machine backup from the old one.  What folders do I need to restore from Time Machine to the new MacBook Pro to restore my iTune Liveraries.  Both my iPhone 4 and iPad are synced to my MacBook Pro.

Bring the Contacts window forward, then enter Time Machine and scroll back to a snapshot that includes the contacts you want to restore. Select the contacts and click the Restore button in the lower right corner of the screen.
If you don't have a Time Machine backup, but your contacts are all on iCloud and haven't been overwritten, then you can recover them by following the instructions on this page. Double-click the downloaded file to import it into Contacts. This procedure won't work if you've synced an empty Contacts database to iCloud.

  • How to Restore System Preferences From Time Machine

    Hi,
Is there any way to restore past system preferences using Time Machine (such as desktop photo, trackpad settings, screensaver, etc.)? I would like to revert to some of these past settings without restoring my whole system from the backup disk & DVD.
    Thanks in advance!

You can do that, but you have to figure out which preferences you want, and what file(s) they're in. And there are about a zillion of them!
Most user-level preferences you set via System Preferences are in one big file:
    *<home folder>/Library/Preferences/com.apple/systempreferences.plist*
but a few are in separate files, such as:
    *<home folder>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.screensaver.plist*
System-level preferences, such as Time Machine's preferences, are in separate files in the top-level Library folder:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist
or one of several files in the sub-folder:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguraton
Other preferences, such as all your Mail accounts, rules, etc., are in separate files at the user level, such as:
    *<home folder>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist*

  • How to restore email-Account with Time-Machine

    Hi,
I realized to my surprise that all my email accounts except the icloud one are gone from mail, after I restarted my mac. I do not know why this happened, crash or something ... - I only know that I only see my icloud account in the inbox.
I read the discussions about restoring mails with TM but what I wanted to avoid is to setup my 5 emails accounts manually again. I want to have them restored via TM (as I already have local copies after them emails in the inboxes I do not really care abouut the mails agains..) . I do not want to setup all the different acount settings again and again.
So the question is: Where are those account informations kept in TM? Can I restore them with mail open or do I ahve to close the mail app on my iMac and then simply restore a certain file/folder with TM (I hope it is such easy ...)
    Thanks for support!
    Christoph

The account settings are stored in ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Accounts.plist
So try again with Time Machine.
Browse to the MailData Folder, open Time Machine (click  in the toolbar
and select Enter Time Machine) the go back to a time before the Accounts.plist file was changed and click Restore.

  • How to restore a backup from time machine in 10.6.8

I am running 10.6.8 on my MacPro (early 2008). I have 4 internal hard drives. The main boot drive has 10.6.8 and the secondary drive with a system has Lion. I cannot completely upgrade to Lion on my main drive until all my software is compatible.
My main boot drive started acting like it's in slow motion 2 days ago. No matter what I do (DiskWarrior, Disk Utility, zap PRAM, fix permissions) nothing seems to help. Every mouse click or movement gives me the dreaded spinnin wheel and it hangs for about 5 min and then does what it's supposed to do. I have logged into a new account w/ no special 3rd party apps or utilities and it still does the same thing. Hard drive diagnostics say my hard drive is ok. I have tried reinstalling the 10.6.8 combo update but that hangs after a few minutes of  starting. I am stymied.
I thought about restoring a Time Machine backup from 1 day before this happened, but before I attempt a full disk backup, need to ask what to do so as not lose everything.
I assume I must boot up from another disk or hard drive, correct? Can I simply select all the system folders and apps folder or do you think I should do a complete restore?
    Thanks.

Could be a failing drive, could be Lion when you boot doing something
Disconnect all other drives etc., except the 10.6.8 boot drive, lets flush everything.
hold Shift upon booting, this is Safe mode and fixes things, reboot
    then SMC reset, PRAM reset

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26871.html
Run all of OnyX checks, maintainance and cleaning then reboot at the end

If you have AppleJack already installed hold command S at startup of 10.6.8 and Applejack AUTO and press enter.
    http://applejack.sourceforge.net/
This mega cocktail will do plenty to rebuild everything and may catch your issue.
If your still having problems I would try to isolate it, if it occurs only if your connected to the Internet, or after the machine has booted Lion etc.
Narrow it down. It might be failing sectors on the drive, this has been known to cause beachballs as the hardware is trying to read from failing sectors, once it gets the information it should be transfering it to a new better sector and mapping off the bad one.
You can expidite this process when you fresh install, by erasing the entire drive (or Free space only) with Zero function in Disk Utility before laying large amounts of data on the drive. (like a OS or partition)
    Good Luck

  • New HDD - how to restore iTunes library from Time Machine

Installed a new HDD in my MacBook Pro, would now like to restore my iTunes library on the computer.
Searched & saw a post about "needing to use the Time Machine interface to restore the entire library".
What is this interface they are referring to and how do I find it?
I open Time Machine in preferences and see there is an "options" button, and you can add items to the restore window ... I'm hoping there is a document somewhere that details if this is the correct place to restore an iTunes library, if so, what files/directories need to be added for restore, etc...
What's the process to restore an iTunes library from a Time Capsule backup?

    Please do not double-post.

So, I backed up my Macbook pro today but I am not able to restore my files/music etc from the time machine, they're locked and when I click on the folder it gives me this message "The folder “Documents” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents." My applications were restored with no problem but its just the music and files
