How to restore my iTunes Mediathek?

Under "iTunes for Windows" I can export (save) my Mediathek by "Mediathek > export Mediathek" with the filename "Mediathek.xml" onto an external drive. However, how can I restore my Mediathek using this file? In the menulists I can't find a pertinent import-function? Thanks for any help in advance.
Hans M

Hi Hans, the xml file is only for 3rd party support. It is not much more than a list of your media files, but not the files themselves.
If you have damaged the database you can restore a recent entry from your equivalent of the Previous iTunes Libraries folder.
Ideally you should backup your entire iTunes folder so that you restore any part of it that is needed on demand. See this User Tip.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Can anyone tell me how to restore my itunes library and playlists? After I downloaded mountain lion my library is missing and my devices can be synced to only one library ...the missing one

can anyone tell me how to restore my itunes library and playlists? After I downloaded mountain lion my library is missing and my devices can be synced to only one library ...the missing one

That .itl file actually is the library -- at least the critical part of it although the library is actually many files and folders.
Try starting iTunes and immediately hold down the option key.  When it asks, guide it to the .itl file.
It's really hard to say without being able to poke around your computer.  Upgrading should not delete the old library, but still it happens to the very, very few which is why we make backups before updating.  If the old library file is gone then so are your playlists.  You can always see if the following is of any use:

    Restore to what?
An iCloud backup can be restored without iTunes. This restoration is only done in the new iPad setup procedure. To get into the setup procedure on an iPad you must be able to use Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
If you want to "restore as new" and get fresh iOS software then, as far as I know, this can only be done with iTunes.

  • How to restore my iTunes when my hard drive has ben stolen?

All my datas (music and videos) were stored on the external hard drive? This has been stolen.  No back up copies made... How Can I restore the datas which i purchased at iStore?
    Thank You

If they are on your iPad then you should be able to copy your iTunes purchases back via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases if you are on iTunes 11 on your computer) - for music etc from other sources (e.g. CDs) then see half-way down this user-tip for some programs that can copy them back from a device.
You might also be able to re-download some/all of your purchases via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes (re-downloading) - but what types of content that you can re-download varies by country (and audiobooks and ringtones can't currently be re-downloaded in any country), and whether they are still in the store. And if you still have the 'pointers' to them in your iTunes library (i.e. where you click on them to play them on your iTunes) then you will need to delete them - otherwise iTunes will see them and assume that you still have them somewhere and they will show as already downloaded in that Purchased link.

  • How to restore an Itunes Library?

I lost my original Itunes library after a computer crash. Although I saved my purchased music on my Itunes account, I never backed up the library on an external drive besides what exists on my Nano. I have since seen that there is a way to transfer songs from the Nano to a new library. I now have the means to do so thanks to a hand-me-down laptop from my sister. I uninstalled her pre-existing Itunes library, and then I followed up by reinstalling Itunes.
The problem is the "new" library. My unistall/reinstall ploy was unsuccessful. My sister's Itunes library remains on this computer. I have always been under the impression that my online account would be able to restore my purchased music upon signing into my personal account.
Therefore, this is the question(s). How do I rid myself of this library that is not mine? How do I restore what is under my online account/Nano to this "new" computer location?

"I have always been under the impression that my online account would be able to restore my purchased music upon signing into my personal account."
This is incorrect. itunes does not keep your library stored on their servers. You buy ONE download only. it is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your purchases ( and everything else on your computer). Your music will only be where you put it.
"How do I rid myself of this library that is not mine?"
Just create a new library: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
Or go into itunes and delete everything.
" How do I restore what is under my online account/Nano to this "new" computer location?"
You don't restore from "online". There is no "online" to restore from.
You can transfer itunes purchases from your Nano: File>Transfer Purchases
Make sure you are signed in/authorized for your account on the computer.

  • How to restore orignal iTune skin for 10.4 version

when iCloud is unleashed later this year, you will be able to upload your entire library (including CD rips, etc.) to it - at a fee, of course
    iTunes Match
If you want all the benefits of iTunes in the Cloud for music you haven’t purchased from iTunes, iTunes Match is the perfect solution. It lets you store your entire collection, including music you’ve ripped from CDs or purchased somewhere other than iTunes. For just $24.99 a year.2
Here’s how it works: iTunes determines which songs in your collection are available in the iTunes Store. Any music with a match is automatically added to your iCloud library for you to listen to anytime, on any device. Since there are more than 18 million songs in the iTunes Store, most of your music is probably already in iCloud. All you have to upload is what iTunes can’t match. Which is much faster than starting from scratch. And all the music iTunes matches plays back at 256-Kbps iTunes Plus quality — even if your original copy was of lower quality.

  • How to restore my iTunes library

Normally when I change PCs, upgrade restore the OS, etc. I have just copied my itunes music folder to an external hard drive.  Normally when I install iTunes on the new system I just go to edit->preferences->advanced and then change the folder from the default location to the location on my backup hard drive and all my music instantly appears.  This time I get nothing.
    What do I do?
I am hesitant to just reimport the songs because I think it will take forever (I have a LOT of music) and I dont want double copies created of the files.  Furthermore I want to keep the itunes library on the secondary hard drive because I dont have enough space on my primary.
    Thanks.

I'm no expert, but I also just got a new computer.  All my music was on the iphone, but not in my library and I couldn't figure out a way to transfer.  However, I was lucky in that I could still get to my old computer and I copied the iTunes folder in music over to my new computer and everything worked great!
I called iTunes support and was told this is the only way to do it - especially for any music you had in your library that was not purchased through the store: ie CDs I loaded.
Good luck and hopefully you can get to your old computer.

  • Anyone know how to restore the itunes created playlists?

In a fit of stupidity, I deleted the itunes created playlists(purchased music, recently played, etc.). I was just wondering if anyone knew how to get those back on my source list, and also on my ipod mini. I tried to go the smart playlist route, but there is no criteria for recently played or purchased music. Any help would be greatly appreciated:)
    Thanks
    Dell Dimension 3000   Windows XP

"I tried to go the smart playlist route, but there is no criteria for recently played or purchased music"
    Sure there is....
    For 'Recently Played', you can:
    1) 'Last Played' 'is in the last' xx days/weeks/months OR
    2) Uncheck the 'Match' condition and check the 'Limit' condition to however many songs/GBs/hours selected by 'most recently played'
    For Purchased Music:
    Match 'Kind' contains 'Protected'
Recreate the Smart Playlists yourself. Name them anything you desire.

  • How to restore non iTunes data after an iCloud restore

    Hi all
My iPod Touch 4th gen had screen issues so was replaced via the Genius Bar with a new device. Prior to this I had done a backup to iCloud and also sync'ed with iTunes.
When I turned on the new device I selected to restore from iCloud backup and this seemed to work fine - I have all my apps, Camera roll photos and iTunes purchased music. However I dont have any of my non-iTunes music or photos. I was told I got these back simply by sync'ing the new device with iTunes.
When I plug the new device (now restored from iCloud) into my computer (a windows PC), iTunes starts up and the iPod Touch appears in the device list..... but that is as far as it gets. There is no sync and when you click on the device in iTunes nothing happens - in the main window where you would have seen the iPod data stats .etc, all I see is the word "iPod" in the centre.
Can anyone shed any light on this, is there something I need to do to get iTunes to properly recognise this newly restored device??
    Thanks
    lobsta

  • How to restore deleted iTunes equalizer presets?

I am using iTunes 12 on Windows 8.1 64 bit.
A few years ago, I deleted all the iTunes equalizer presets and made a bunch of custom presets. Despite several upgrades to iTunes, my custom presets have persisted (good on ya Apple). However, I'd like to delete these custom presets and restore the defaults. Is there an easy way to do this without completely erasing my library?

For uscsparticus, there's a question for you:
If is saved from iCloud, you'll be able to get back or not?

  • How to restore my itunes after clean Leopard install

    Hi!
I made a complete backup of my MAC hard drive before doing a completely clean install of leopard.
can someone tell me what I need to do (and where to go) to get the data off the backup image to make itunes work like before?
    thanks!

Copy the entire iTunes folder including music to the new location.
Click on the iTunes icon to start it, then immediately press an hold the Option key.
iTunes will ask to Create new library or Choose existing library. Select Choose existing library and select the library in the folder you just moved.
You will not need to set the iTunes prefs -> Advanced.
