How to restore Vista on old Satellite P300?

Sorry this is a long one.
I bought a new P70 to replace my older P300 which came with Vista and now want to restore it to a clean install for the children to use. The problem is that I had partitioned the drive and had been testing the betta and RC1 versions of Windows 7 before it came out and it also had XP, now I can't get to the recovery drive by holding the 0 key and don't have the option to repair on the advanced boot screen when using the F12 key. I know that the Recovery partition is still there because I saw it when using a disk partitioning tool before making changes and I didn't delete it.
After what I have read I am thinking that the hidden drive (EISA Configuration) that holds the BCD, stored the options for both the 0 key and the F12 key menu. I did make backup disks when I originally got the laptop and the disks checked out fine but when I went to use them they were reported as corrupted so the only other option that I had was images that I made with another program but can't boot from the disk that I made and I assume that it is because of the SATA drivers, Win 7 couldn't boot it either till I injected the drivers, just can't remember how I got them in the imaging disk.
So if anybody knows where the the option for the 0 key is stored, and I presume it is in the BCD itself, does anybody know how to get it back or re-write it? The other option that I can think of is to find out how the recovery partition is activated and try to do it another way. My eldest Son has a newer P300, is it possible to copy the BCD and files from his hidden drive to boot mine? The other thing is when restoring from the recovery partition do you need a Windows Product Key or is that already stored on the recovery partition because I don't ever remember seeing one and I don't have one for my new P70 either.
Any ideas?

Thank you for your reply, I was afraid somebody would say something like that.
I did make a backup using the Toshiba backup program and it said that it was done and the disks checked out fine but when I went to use them it reported them as corrupted because it couldn't read them. Luckily I also used True Image Home to do a backup at the same time and have used those images before to restore the laptop but now the boot disk and any new boot disk that I make won't boot the machine, they boot the desktops but not the laptops. Images of all original partitions are there, including the hidden partitions. I don't understand why it worked before and not now.
I can just uninstall everything and take it back that way but preferred to start clean. If only I could get the machine booted with True Image Home then I wouldn't have a problem. I have been thinking of a new OS though.

  • How to instal Win 7 on Satellite P300?

    I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite P300. When I bought it I had on it Vista family premium. Now I wanted to install Win 7.
    I have the DVD of Win 7 professional but when I want to boot from the win 7 DVD it wouldnt accept and the pc boot always from the hard disk even when I changed it on the BIOS like it doesnt recognise it. I tried with other Win 7 DVD to format the hard disk and install the win 7 like the normal procedure but Toshiba doesnt recognise any Win 7 DVD, it recognise only its original system DVD (the hddrecovery files which combines the win vista and all Toshiba laptop drivers as u know).
    So how to do to format the pc and install Win 7 (if u run the setup of win 7 from the computer I can install Win 7 but I cant format the pc and I keep always the old files and I dont like) so please help me if you have a solution for that thank you!!

    yes i have the original microsoft win 7 dvd,but when i choose from bios to boot from the dvd to start format the hard disk and then instal win 7 like the ordinary procedure the system doesnt recognise any win 7 dvd ( i tried with other dvd ) and start directly from the hard disk,but for example if i try with a win xp dvd ,then it work and the system recognise the dvd and boot from it ans start formating etc..it happens only with win 7 dvd ,so what to do?

  • How to Restore Contents of Old Drive onto New Drive

    Dear all,
    I recently managed to change my ibook's 30GB HD to a 160GB - successfully, BUT:
    before that, I saved a copy or clone wit carbon copy cloner onto an external Firewire HD, unfortunately without the 'bootable' option. After reinstalling OS X 10.4. via DVD on the upgraded iBook, i tried booting from the external drive which obviously did not work. So I am now looking for other ways to get my old data back. Clicking the sparseimage on the external drive builds an image of my old HD on the new desktop.
    Here's the question:
    How do I get the contents of the old drive into my new Home Folder? What about the apps, will it be possible to transfer them as well?
    Own ideas: Disk Utility? Migration assistant? Buying a case for the old drive to use it as firewire and restore from it?
    Already done and given up on: Copying the old home folder to the users folder using a second admin account and then trying to swap shortnames - didn't work the way I was told, but I'd retry with more support, if someones sure that it works (cornelius - with a former help from Neil - tried to help me with that trick, but I guess he forgot the changes between 10.3. and later).
    I would absolutely appreciate help with this as I really need the contents of my old drive. Not just to look AT, but INSIDE :-`
    Thanx!!

    Hi Kenichi,
    I will certainly follow these instructions when Im back home from work.
    Kenichi Watanabe wrote:
    If the external drive is what you want to restore onto the internal drive, you can do it with Disk Utility.
    The external drive IS what I want to restore, but it bears only the sparse image, that needs to be clicked to expand to the real disk image. I could build the disk image on the desktop and then copy it back to the external drive? Is that okay? Should I erase the sparse image AFTER THAT just for the reason not to have two identical images?
    You need to start up from your Mac OS X Installation Disk. Start up while holding down the C key.
    After you get to the Installer, run Disk Utility from the menu. Confirm you can see both the internal drive and the external drive in the sidebar.
    If the internal drive is not yet formatted, select the internal drive and go to the Partition tab to format it as one partition with Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format type.
    Is it possible to format the internal drive even if it IS already formatted? I'm just asking because by fussing around with different user acounts I have got a lot of useless stuff on the disk. By the way, would you zero out - and how many times?
    Go to the Restore tab. From the sidebar, drag the icon of the disk for the external disk (not the drive but the disk indented below the drive) to the field called Source. Drag the icon for the internal disk (again not the drive) to Destination. Double check to make sure you have the Source and Destination correct (not reversed). If you want it to be an exact restore, check the Erase Destination box. Click the Restore button. Note: This will erase what is on the internal drive now.
    Ok, Kenichi, if you could help me with these few questions I'd be very happy, then I would follow your intructions.
    Thanks,
    Keywan

  • How to restore/duplicate from old backup

    Hi All,
    RMAN Version : 10.2.0.4
    Repository Version : 10.2.0.4
    OS : AIX 6.1
    Target Database : 10.2.0.4
    I have set the RMAN retention policy to 10 days for my database say "BCMT1". I have duplicated this database successfully to "RTEST", but i have restored from backup within the recovery window period.
    what if, i want to duplicate/restore backup which is older then 10days and which is marked obsoleted & deleted from RMAN repository but available on tape ?
    Below is script to detele the obsolete backup:
    run
    crosscheck backup;
    DELETE NOPROMPT EXPIRED BACKUP;
    DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE RECOVERY WINDOW OF 10 days;
    }Script to duplicate the database:
    run
    allocate channel DSK1 type DISK;
    allocate auxiliary channel DSK2 type DISK;
    set until time  "to_date('09/24/10 17:00:00','MM/DD/YY hh24:mi:ss')";
    DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE TO RTEST1;
    }Below are configuration parameters:
    RMAN configuration parameters are:
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 10 DAYS;
    CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION OFF; # default
    CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK; # default
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '/oraclebackup/BCMT1/%F';
    CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 1 BACKUP TYPE TO BACKUPSET; # default
    CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT   '/oraclebackup/BCMT1/%U' MAXPIECESIZE 4 G;
    CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO UNLIMITED; # default
    CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION FOR DATABASE OFF; # default
    CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM 'AES128'; # default
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default
    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO '/u01/app/orapltp1/product/10.2/dbs/snapcf_BCMT1.f'; # defaultCan the catalog command be used to register the old backups with RMAN repository and then restore from those backups ?

    Thanks for quick response...
    Again one question.....
    Since i have deleted the obsolete backups, that means this information is also gone from RMAN repository too.
    Here is the Scenario:
    1) I have backups available on disk from 23rd Sep 2010 To 2nd OCT 2010, So, i can easily restore/duplicate my database with in this time period. (RMAN repository have this information)
    2) I have backups available on tape from 1st AUG 2010 To 1st 22nd Sep 2010. Now, if i need to restore/duplicate database to 26th Aug 2010. I have deleted the obsolete backups, so information gone from repository. How to proceed ?

  • Strange issue with "Enter" key in Vista on Satellite P300-225

    A few weeks ago, I don't recall exactly when, Windows Vista on my Satellite P300-225 started to pass an incorrect scancode to applications when the Enter key is pressed. It always sends the scancode of the Keypad Enter key, even when I hit the one in the alphanumeric part of the keyboard. It did work correctly some time ago, but suddenly, it just started acting like this. No remapping of any keys.
    Since there are quite a few programs that act different on these two keys, this has become quite an annoying issue.
    The strangest part of it is, that the problem seems to be somehow related to Windows Vista, since the keys are correctly reported on Linux.
    If anybody has a clue, please, let me know.

    Yes, it almost certainly is a keymapping issue related to Vista. Reinstalling Vista isn't a way to go, it's not worth the effort (the recovery DVDs would comletely wipe out everything from my harddisk so I'd have to move all my data away and then restore, reinstall Linux et cetera). I'll give a try to uninstalling the keyboard in safe mode though.
    Anyway, it almost looks like some Windows update is responsible for this, since I have automatic updates enabled and it installs something everytime I boot it. I don't know about any program I installed before this happend that could possibly alter the mappings. (...and the registry key used for this is empty.)

  • How to restore R11 database..? Please guide in details.

    Dear Friends,
    I had install Windows NT 4.0 as domain controller and installed oracle R11 and configured. It was working fine. After some time I had UPGRADE my Operating system WINNT 4.0 to WINDOWS Server 2000. Server was properly upgraded with any trouble, after up gradation Oracle application still working.
    Good!.
    Now I bought a new P4 hardware for Oracle server. The problem is how I restore Database from old machine (that contain records) to new machine. Because it is Oracle R11 that support Oracle 8 and R11 does not install/support on windows server 2000.
    I don’t have Backup of database but I have all database files etc. can this would be help full??
    I also have control file and parameter file of original…db
    My Plan:-
    1.     Install Windows NT 4.0
    2.     Install Oracle R11 (Vision)
    3.     Upgrade OS (Window Server 2000)
    4.     Than try to restore database.. (How I NEED FRIENDS HELP)
    5.     After Restoration Should I have to Re-Create Users or set the rights like I have created Oracle application user “Ash”. With limited rights.
    6.
    Keep in mind I am using Oracle R11 that install Oracle 8.
    So solution should support Oracle 8….
    [email protected]

    Hi,
    Maybe just swap the harddisk to the new machine?
    Alternatively, I'd try installing R11 under Win2000 ... as under the covers Windows server 2000 is Windows NT right?

  • How can I get a recovery disk for Satellite P300-1CI?

    Hi everybody,
    first, sorry for my english, I'm a belgian and I speak french.
    Yesterday I bought a toshiba Satellite P300-1CI, when I started, I must installed Vista home.
    I would like to format my disk and reinstall my old Windows XP.
    My question is : How can keep an image disk with Vista? I don't have an installation disk of Vista and don't know my registration key of it.
    How can I have a recovery disk ?
    Can you help me please.
    PS : Sorry for my english

    Hi mate
    User manual is really interesting document and in most cases it answer all you questions ;)
    Anyway, the Toshiba recovery disk should be created before you would format and install on the HDD.
    You have to use the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator application in order to create the Recovery DVD.
    Now to you other question;
    The Vista image which is preinstalled and placed on the Recovery disk (after recovery disk has been created) is activated already and you dont need to insert any keys or activate anything.

  • Satellite P300-156: Vista wont start after installation of Toshiba Tempo

    Hi
    I have a new Satellite P300-156 which I have been using for about a month with no problems. It has been great.
    This morning I had a message come up to install Toshiba Tempo which I did and all was fine until I restarted the laptop and now Vista wont start.
    I have followed all the diagnostic tools, tried system restore etc... but still nothing.
    I currently live in Italy, so is hard to take it into a computer repair shop as I dont speak Italian and the operating system is in english.
    From what I can see my only option now is to do the TOSHIBA HDD Recovery, but I would loose some data which I have done since my last backup. Is there any way to backup data to a usb storage device using command promts before I do this, or is there a simpler way out of this?
    Any advice would be great.
    Thanks
    Keith

    Hi
    Thanks for getting back so soon, however, F8 does nothing when starting. I have an option of F2 or F12, but neither gives me options to access last known good configuration.
    Is that the same as a system restore from the Vista system recovery options as I have tried this (gives you a list of last known configurations). But still no luck.
    If I do the TOSHIBA HDD Recovery function do I need a disc for this?
    thanks

  • How to turn the light on on a Satellite P300-23V + user guide on CD

    I wonder how you turn the light on on a SATELLITE P300-23V?
    I mean the light that show a lightbar above the touchpad and and the name Satellite is lit up too.
    In the manual it says how to do it with the thin remote controll but there is no on this model.
    I know I have been able to turn of/on the light with some key combination before but now I can't find it now.
    I have upgraded from Vista 32bit to Windows 7 64bit and maybe some Thoshiba features was lost doing that?
    I have also lost my CD with the more extended user guide. I have searched for it on the download area but it seems not be there for downloading.
    Any hints how to get it?

    This forum is great!
    The answers comes so quickly!
    Thank you for your answers. They solved both my problems.
    I could have sworn that I used some buttons on the keypad to light up the lamps but apparantly not.
    I found it in the BIOS as you said and it works.
    And now I also have the user guide which is more extended than the printed one.
    Once again: THANX!

  • How to restore old prefs, etc after clean reinstall of 10.3.9?

    Due to a fiasco with Drive Genius I was forced to reformat and reinstall 10.3.9. Luckly, I was bright enough to manually copy over the entire contents of the drive to a firewire drive before I started the drive genius project.
    I was able to find directions on how to restore my users which worked perfectly.
    I've copied all the apps back. But all the apps were in the main drive rather than in users, so the prefs, registrations etc are, I assume, stored in the old library.
    Is there a way to replace the new library with the original to avoid several days work digging out the original packaging to get the serial numbers for re-entering so I can get back to work right away?

    The serial #s, etc were in fact in the original main library. I was able to restore the use of all the programs by manually replacing the missing items in each folder in the library. It took over an hour, but I got it all back and saved me from having to rummage through storage boxes for the original documentation to retrieve and re-enter all the info.

  • My old phone broke and I am having trouble figuring out how to restore my contacts on my "new" phone (LG ENV2 Black)...

    My old phone broke and I am having trouble figuring out how to restore my contacts on my "new" phone (LG ENV2 Black).  Apparently the phone is so old that I am unable to install Backup Assistant on it, which sucks.  I have all my old contacts saved on my computer as a CSV and also another copy on a micro SD as VCF.  I have tried moving the CSV from my computer to my ENV2 via both Bluetooth and USB cable, but had no luck with either of those.  I also tried to pop the micro SD into the ENV2, and although I can load all my old pictures/videos/etc. from the micro SD, I do not seem to be able to restore the contacts from card.  I know there has to be some way to manually transfer these files; the contacts are still on my old phone as well; but I was unable to use the transfer wizard for that because my old phonedoesn't seem to be supported by that (Pantech Jester 2)

    Google a program called bitpim, that might do what you want.  Never used it but it's been talked about on the forums.  Other than that you might have to input them manually.  Mary
