How to retrace my photos from my external Lacie harddisk - thanks

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to retrace my iPhotos from my external hard-disk?  I am not familiar with external hard-disks and cannot find my way into it.
Thanks a lot
Regards
Claire

Hello Claire:
Are they on the external HD in Time Machine or are they just stored there?

How did you use this backup drive? Was this a Time Machine backup, or just an external drive to which you copied files?
I assume your photos were in iPhoto.  If you're just talking a bunch of JPEG files you can just drag them wherever you like, otherwise:

  • How I can transfer photos from an external hard drive to my mac?

    Hello,
I need help on how to transfer photos from an external hard drive (sumsung make) to my mac? If possible can you please tell me step by step, and also how I can post a video that was taken from my iPhone to facebook. It keeps telling me my video is being encoded, and then could not process. I must be dunce really. Your help is greatly appreciated.

What files are they? Is it a clone, a TM backup, or simply drag 'n drop?
If it's the latter, simply drag them back. If something else, please post back with detailed info.

  • How do I delete photos from an external hard drive before downloading to my new Mac?

I have a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex external hard drive that has all my photos from my old computer on it  Because there are thousands, I want to delete a bunch of them before downloading onto my new Mac.  However, when I click on the photos, they say "locked."  Once I have the photos trimmed down, how do I get the to download to my Mac?

    Don't touch that one !
I was hoping that in addition to that there should be another device listed, namely the USB External HD you've got plugged into the USB port. It should show up something like this:

  • How do I copy photos from an external disk onto an ipad

When synchronizing using iTunes, either you get events you can select from iPhoto on our Mac, or, you can select photos from a folder on an external dirve attached to our Mac.  What we cannot seem to do is get both events we can select from iPhoto on our Mac and photos we select from a folder on an external dirve attached to or Mac.
      How do we get both?

You have to use itunes on your laptop, import the photos into itunes, and then sync to the ipad.

  • How can I move photos from an external mac hard drive to new Macbook pro?

Hi I hope someone can help. My girlfriend spilled soda on her 2008 macbook aluminium running Leopard , rendering it useless. She has since bought a new Macbook pro and would like to get her photos from iphoto onto her new comp. I've removed her harddrive from her old damaged computer and put it into an external USB enclosure, her new Macbook picks up the external hardrive but when I try to move the photo folder (drag) onto her new computer, it says something about the version of iphoto not being compatible. Also when i click on the photo folder on the external harddrive there are no photos on it. Any help would be appreciated, and would score me some brownie points with her .

Does she have any photos in the iPhoto library on her new machine?
What version of iPhoto does she have?
The general answer is to trash the iPhoto library on the new computer (assuming it is empty) and drag the old iPhoto library to the pictures folder of the new machine and launch iPhoto letting it convert the library

  • How do i upload photos from an external source to my phone

I recently moved all my photos from my phone onto my flash drive and did not just copy them in hopes I could simply select the few that I want and have all the rest backed up to a secure source.  I would like to get the few pictures back onto my phone without all the rest and cannot figure out how to do it.  I have all the recent updates but an iPhone 4S.

You can do it with iTunes sync: iTunes: Syncing photos - Apple Support
Another option is a 3rd party app such as http://www.photosync-app.com

  • How to copy referenced photos from dodgy external drive to new drive when whole file will not copy due to error 36.

My external WD portable passport drive must be dodgy because I can't back it up or clone it or copy 3 of my 22 photo files to a new portable drive. I get error 36 as I attempt all 3 processes. I have copied my iPhoto library, iMovie events and most of my aperture referenced photos to the new drive. But cannot copy 3 files that contain the corrupted files showing just a grey triangle. I cannot delete or move to trash the corrupted raw photos.
How can I copy to the new drive any photos that aren't corrupted (grey triangle instead of photo or a photo that's just coloured horizontal broken lines) so I can then reconnect the referenced photos after copying them?
I am on late 2008 MacBook Pro with lion,
    Many thanks
    Bw

I've worked out how to copy and reconnect individual photos.
But can see that what's happening is that heavily edited raw photos are taking ages to load. Or not loading at all. And if opened go to the spinning wheel for 5-10 minutes. I am wondering whether to compress these or take them back to the originals or any other ideas would be very welcome.
    Thank you

  • How do I import photos from an external hard drive to my iMac please?

  • How do I transfer photos from an external drive, taken from a defunct computer with Snow Leopard, to one operating with Mountain Lion?

My late 2007 MacBook Pro, with a replacement 500 GB drive and updated to Snow Leopard, died.  The extracted drive works in an external drive case, so all the files are there.  Most of the files were transferred from a time machine backup to a new MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion.  However, about a week's worth of files were missing from the Time Machine backup, due to traveling.  I would like to copy just those files, mostly pictures, from the original drive to the new system.  However, when I try to use iPhoto to get to the image files on the external drive, the system says the iPhoto information must be updated to the new system and, once done, they cannot be accessed with an old one.    One concern is that updating the iPhoto information on the external drive might go wrong and make the files inaccessible.  If there were some way to just have the underlying image files identified and copied, that would be most comfortable for me. .Any advice?

1 - updating your iPhoto library does not make photos inaccessible - it does update the iPhoto database so that you have to have the current version of iPhoto to open the library - however the photos are in the database and can be accessed via the finder anytime
2 - you do not memtion what version of iPhoto you had - the original photos are in the masters (or original) folder which can be accessed by right clicking on the iPhoto library and showing package contents - Be sure NOT to make any changes to the library)

  • How do I transfer photos from my external HD to my new MacBook Pro?

I can't find the photos in my HD but I used Time Machine so they have to be there somewhere... All I can find is under Users --> Pictures --> iPhoto Library, which I can't upload/import into my new iPhoto. (I used to use a regular MacBook and now I'm on a MacBook Pro, so it should be compatible...)

If you used TM to backup your iPhoto library you must us TM to restore it to the pictures folder and launch iPhoto
If you simply copied it to the EHD then just copy it back to the pictures folder and launch iPhoto
