How to retrieve data from a removed hard drive????

I had an iBook G3 12” when the logic board broke. I dismantled the computer and sold all the parts. I kept the hard drive hoping that I could retrieve the data. Is there a product that will connect the hard drive to a WINDOWS based computer and allow me to retrieve my files?
The hard drive is a Toshiba 30gb.
I believe that it is an Apple model #655-1019
If you need any other model numbers or serial numbers let me know.
I sure hope that there is a way to get the data. I have a lot of MP3’s and school data on that hard drive. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If this is the only place where files are kept (that is, if you do not have backup copies), the situation is not without risk. If the files are really important, I would suggest that you get in touch with a company specialised in data retrieval.
Connecting a hard drive to a PC is possible per se. You ought to be able to do this via a suitable external USB 2.0 case, for example. There are also various adapters without a case. Have a look at your local computer store.
However, a PC running Windows is not capable of reading disks from a Mac, with a Mac file system, without special software. Something like TransMac or MacDrive could possibly be of help (study any system requirements and instructions carefully). A specialist might even use some kind of cloning utility prior to a normal file copying attempt.
There may be other difficulties as well, including copy protection et cetera.
The easiest way could be to buy a new Mac.

how do i retrieve data from my external hard drive?

If your hard drive can be detected and shows up as a drive letter in my computer but you can't access your files, then you can recover your data off it with data recovery software easily. This way is the easiest and the most inexpensive way to recover your data.If you bring it to a computer repair shop that is available for data recovery servise, they will cost you $500-1000 or more.Hmm, a lot of money.
I managed to recover data from crashed hard drive with Tenorshare Data Recovery. If needed, you can download it and scan your hard drive for free to preview whether your data can be recovered. It will show you thumbnails for recoverable pictures.

  • Need to retrieve data from IBM Travelstar Hard drive from G3 Powerbook

The only problem is the G3 I had is broken, i now have a Macbook Pro Intel and need to retrieve the data from the old Hard drive.
I have removed the drive from the G3 but is it possible to connect it to my Macbook pro?
I'm considering buying an old G3 and fitting it to that then using target mode to retrieve the files.
Mac Book Pro 17" Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

The most cost-effective solutions may be one of the external drive adapters such as the one from Newer Tech.

Just FYI, G3s do not support target disk mode. You'd have to have an AGP G4 or later.

  • How to copy files from a removed hard drive

Hi removed my hard drive from my Dv9408nr laptop because the screen won't power on, and but my question is there a way to copy the files from my removed hard drive to another laptop. Is there a cord the fits into the hard drive connector slot to a usb or some other cord that goes to a laptop so I can copy my files to another laptop, so I can recover my files?

    Hi,
Something like this should work and you can have an external HDD at the end

  • Retrieving data from a damaged hard drive

The catalog tree on my PowerBook has become corrupted, and the computer won't boot. It will boot from the installation disk or the TechTools disk, but it appears the corruption is irreparable. I'll have to just restore the drive. At this point, I'm just trying to get my photos and music and whatever else I can scavenge off the drive. I have an external hard drive I could move stuff to, but no way of viewing the contents of the damaged drive. My question: is it possible to view the contents of the drive even though it won't boot? How can I retrieve my files before I reformat the drive?
    Thanks,
    Don

DiskWarrior is the best there is to "fix" various types of directory and corruption problems. In most cases, if DW can't fix it, nothing can. Disk Utility is great at finding problems, but can't fix all of them. Every Mac user should have a copy of DW.
Be sure to get DW on a CD, since that's what you boot from to fix the problem on your hard drive. You can download DW, but you have to burn it to a CD or put it on another bootable volume.

  • How to recover data from an external hard drive that has lost half of the data I was storing in it

I am using a Lacie external hard drive to store my photos on. Every once in awhile it disappears from my screen. I have been able to bring it back by unplugging and re-plugging from the computer. Then I had to turn it off and on again. Finally, it lost about half the stored photos, and I couldn't recover them. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I might do to fix this problem?
I'm using an iMac with  iOS 10.6.8
The hard drive has 1 TB capacity

    You can try these.
    Data Recovery Programs
    Data Recovery – Best
    Data Recovery – Disk Drill
    Data Recovery – Data Rescue
    Data Recovery – File Salvage
    Data Recovery – Stellar Phoenix

  • How to extract data from an encrypted hard drive

Ok so i have a powerbookG4 with a dead logic board and i'm trying to extract all the data that i have from my hard drive. so i took out the hard rive and put it in a USB 3.5 hard drive enclosure, i can access some of the hard drive but the important stuff that i want are all encrypted by filevault in a folder that i can't access.
i tried to boot from the hard drive but it won't work.
do you have any suggestions??? help please....

Double-click the FileVault image and provide the password associated with that Mac OS X user account when prompted. If you don't have that password, but do have the master password, place the drive in a FireWire enclosure, use it to start up the computer, and unlock the FileVault account from there. If you don't have either password, the data inside is unrecoverable without them.

  • Retrieving data from an external hard drive.... help!

Last night I backed up my macbook pro to a firelite external hard drive...this morning my mac was stuck in start up (folder with ? mark)
I unfortunately plugged my fire lite hard drive back in thinking I was going to reinstall everything from that (not realising the hard drive was dead) I selected the back up but of course it wouldn't work. I came out of reinstall but couldn't eject the harddrive so unplugged it and got the devise removal sign.
I do not have another mac only a PC and my harddrive isn't a normal usb shape ...it has a --> an wider curved shape at one ends which of course fitted my mac. Is there an adapter for this so I can plug into my PC and check my work is still on there or is there no way to read it?

The connection port on your FireLite drive doesn't look like a USB port because it isn't a USB port — it's a FireWire port. There is no adapter that will enable you to connect it to a PC that doesn't have such a port. If you wanted to, you could add one to your PC for very little cost. But Daddy Paycheck's recommended approach to solving your problem is a much better option, because the PC wouldn't be able to read a Mac-formated external drive anyway.

  • How do I recover data from my dead hard drive?

How do I recover data from my dead hard drive?

Is it dead or corrupt? There are recovery programs out there, however if your HD is head, paying pros to do data recovery is VERY costly.       Some have removed the platters and installed them in likewise drives that dont have head crashes, but torque tolerances are tight, and doing it right is a bit advanced and tricky for most. Ive done HD disk swaps 4 times and had success 3 of the 4 times. It requires cannibalizing another working HD.   In the future remember the golden rule, 2 copies is 1, and one is NONE.
Its likely you could find a local computer repair station that can do it for you cheaply.  HD dont really "die", they have fried SATA bus, or crashed HEADS........the platters DO demagnatize over long time due to heat and degauss of the data (poor storage, etc).........but in specific, a HARD DRIVE DOESNT DIE ,.........only the flying head mechanisms that read and write the data, and SATA / bus that feeds the data DIES,.......but the data (unless corrupt or magnetically corrupted) is THERE

  • I transferred data from my external hard drive to my restored Mac Book Pro via migration assistant and now my external hard drive in time capsule has red minus signs. How do I get rid of that without getting rid of any of my data?

I used Migration Assistant to transfer my data from my external hard drive via Time Capsule to my restored Mac Book Pro. When I now go into Time Capsule I there are red minus signs in the corner of all the folders that are contained in my back up. How do I get rid of this and access my previous back-ups?

Select the drive and Finder > Get info and at the bottom "ignore permissions on this volume"
You can copy the files, but the ownership on the files still belongs to the other user account, once your done copying, then perform a #6 Reset Users Permissions and that will set all the ownership to that account.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Another method is to copy the entire folder, then change it's permissions.

Stop using the drive immediately, un plug it.
Buy a copy of ProSoft DataRescue 4 and use it to search for deleted files.

If you have Lion installed, and run Boot Camp, it will create the boot flash for you, just followe the tutorial on screen. As far as I remember, this was not possible prior to Lion.
