You can connect to MSAccess via JDBC.
The most common approach is to create an ODBC entry in windows, and then use the JDBC-ODBC bridge that comes with java.

Once you have a database connection, it becomes as any other java program accessing a database.

REQUEST is a system object available in runtime of BSP application.
It is the object of interface IF_HTTP_REQUEST.
Use methof REQUEST -> GET_FORM_DATA( )

Retrieving data from Microsoft Access using JDBC

I noticed that when i tried retrieving data from Microsoft access using JDBC, I realised that it was throwing SQLException when the column names were two word with spaces between them, e.g. Date Birth. But after i removed the space from the column names, my SQL queries were retrieving data. Was it because of the space in between the column names of the table?

Yeah, as far as I know having two word column names isn't allowed in SQL. There might be some way to escape it, but generally it's sensible to avoid it.

You can use heterogeneous services (HS) connection to MS-Access from Oracle and still use the same PL/SQL (or even a single CTAS statement) or SQL to load directly to Oracle tables. It's transparent, quick and clean as opposed to writing complex control files.
You might have to set the ODBC connection to your Access database and add the details to Oracle listener.
Please let me know if you are not sure how to set up the connection.

You set up an ODBC connection to the MS Access file, then use Oracle Heterogeneous services and configure those to point to the ODBC connection and use that.
Here's an example I already have for an MS Excel file...
1- Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Data Sources (ODBC)>System DSN and create a data source with appropriate driver. Name it EXCL.
2- In %ORACLE_HOME%\Network\Admin\Tnsnames.ora fie add entry:

In this file set following two parameters:
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = excl
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = 0
5- Now connect to Oracle database and create database link with following command:
SQL> CREATE DATABASE LINK excl
2 USING 'excl'
3 /
Database link created.
Now you can perform query against this database like you would for any remote database.
SQL> SELECT table_name FROM all_tables@excl;

2. Select Data Manipulation
3. In category select "Automated Row Fetch"
4. Specify process name, sequence, select "On Load - Before Header" in point.
5. Specify owner, table, primary key, and the primary key column(Item name contains primary key).
6. Create a process.
7. In each item select "Database Column" in "Source Type".

Hi Sam,
you have a bunch of possibilities... (and they do not really differ from accessing a DB from within any J2EE app).
You can use a direct connection, setting Database, port, user, ... within your component.
Or you can set all these things within VisualAdmin and then reference the DataSource via JNDI from within your component.
You can directly use SQL.
Or you can use ObjectRelationalMappers like Hibernate...

Am currently new at JSP. I've been studying it for awhile and still getting the hang of it. We are working on a project.
Editing a given data. We have to retrieve the given data and post it to another form "Editing form".
Since we can retrieve data using JSP but how are we going to post it to another form? I mean how are we going to transfer data from one form to another?
Can anyone help me with codes please..

The client is a web browser.
The client submits a request (click a link, visit a form)
The server gets to respond to this
- look at request parameters from the client
- access database
- produce resulting html page
- send page back to client.
The standard pattern is to retrieve data from the database in java code, and then load that data into a bean.
You then make that bean available as an attribute
It is then available for use in your JSP - either <jsp:useBean> tag or using ${ELexpressions}
All you can pass from the client to the server is request parameters - which are always strings.
Draw a picture of where the information is, and the information flows. Very rarely does it go directly from one "form" to another.
