How to retrieve ONE address from Time Capsule backup..

I found this, after a search, here.. in an archived Discussion-
"I decided to delete the entry from AddressBook and restore the previous hours' copy of the entire record for that person. It takes less than a minute to restore a record like this.."
I need to do this!
can anyone post (very) detailed instructions, please?!
I lost an important phone number and don't know when I inadvertently erased it.
I tried entering Time Machine; choosing a year old backup; and looked up Address Book under every heading I could think of (L's hard drive, L's iMac, Applications, etc) but every time I clicked on "Address Book", I simply saw a small screen picture of Address Book, version number.. no individual names or addresses..
I'd be grateful for help- thank you!

There is info on address restore here.

I am not sure if it is exactly detailed enough.

  • How to change mac address on time capsule

    Hi there,
How to change mac address on time capsule?

There are routers that allow you to create/clone a mac address to whatever you like. Since many companies use the mac address to 'register' a unit connected to it's system, you usually just have to let them know you've changed your router and they will reset your system to accept connections from the new device.

    Hi,
What is the table you want to restore?
Using export/import is supported with Oracle Apps database (for full database exp/imp, and certain schemas like custom ones). For the Apps schema, I believe it is not supported due to object dependencies and integrity constraints.

How can I exclude mail from Time Machine backups?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Mails are stored on ~/Library/Mail, being ~ your user folder. As you are running Snow Leopard, it's easy to exclude your mails from your Time Machine backup.
Open System Preferences > Time Machine > Options, and add ~/Library/Mail to excluded items, so the next backup won't include mails. Note that you have to go to your user folder, in order to access to this directory

It was possible in the AirPort utility V5, but in the new V6 I can't find this option.

Download and use 5.6.. the other non-toy version of Apple's Airport Utilities.

  • How do i recover files from time capsule

A couple of days ago my  macbook pro (mid 2009, 2.53 GHz intel core 2 duo running Mountain Lion) started getting slow almost to a crawl, and the hdd name was changed automatically from Macintosh HD to a really long and weird name, something like ////////kjiosdjfk43///////////////////////////////, the name of a  folder that I had on the desktop was also changed to a weird name like that. I changed the name back to Macintosh HD and after that it would take forever to boot and then wouldnt boot at all. I tried to reinstall OSX from the osx utilites menu after pressing command + R while booting but after downloading the file it would get stuck at " about 0 seconds remaining" i tried to format the drive but it still wouldnt install OSX. I bought a new HDD and installed everything from scratch, Leopard, Snow Leopard and finally Mountain Lion. Since the original HDD name was changed i suspected a virus, I haven't used time machine since installing Mountain Lion, I need to know how to check if it was a virus or just the HDD failing. Right now I'm running a scan on the time capsule disk with avast free for mac ( is Avast any good on Mac's?).  It's my understanding that my time capsule disk assumes its connected to a new mac, I would like to transfer all my files (music, movies, but most importantly the photos i had on iPhoto) instead of doing a full restore from time capsule (I'd like to do this because i had a lot of applications I no longer use and the mac was getting slow from a while back), if I decide to do this, how do i do it, and, after copying the files do i need to erase the time capsule disk and set it up as a new one for the "new" mac or can I save the old backups and start backing up new ones from this point on ( I'd like to do this in case i forget to transfer any files I still have them on time capsule)

Time Machine will delete its hourly backups when it is running low on space. The daily Backups remains.
Then it will delete the daily backups when it is running low on space. The weekly backups remains.
Then it will delete the weekly backups when it is running low on space. The monthly backups remain.
Then it will delete the odlest backups when it is running low on space.
But because of the convoluted way its internal pointer system works, it will never delete the only backup copy of a current file -- there will still be a copy on the Backup as long as there is still an original file in place on your drive.
So I think your assertion that it deletes your stuff without asking you is an exaggeration. It is not nearly so dire as you are saying.

  • How to restore mail files from Time Capsule onto a different machine?

My Macbook Pro hard drive crashed, and I want to restore my backed-up mail files from Time Capsule onto my Desktop Mac (iMac 27").  When I try to restore by opening Time Capsule with Mail already open, I can only see the current mail files on the iMac (not the backed up files on the MacBook Pro), even when I point to the MacBook Pro backup file.

    Hello there, AngryMario.

  • Retrieve deleted files from Time Capsule

We've got the Time Capsule and I tried to set up user accounts with password for the File Sharing. There's a pop-up window that said something like 'any existing files in the time capsule would be deleted/inaccesible'. I clicked "OK".
The thing is my brother's files were already in the Time Capsule and he didn't have any backup. So the original files were the ones in the Time Capsule. I thought he would have other backup such as in the Time Machine but even when we open his Time Machine it says "the storage location for the Time Machine cannot be found".
Now he needs the files and I'm clueless as to how to get the files back. Please HELP!

you have wiped the time cpasule drive and your only hope now is data recovery software like [data rescue II|http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php] or [file salvage|http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1]. I don't know how well they are going to work with a time capsule though so you are going to have to find that out.

  • How do i transfer files from time capsule to new computer?

I recently lost my vintage Imac hard drive and to top it off, likely had a faulty OS. Good news is I have a time capsule, bad news is it is also suspected to have the faulty OS. The Imac is history and I currently have a macbook pro with Lion OS installed and now I want to retrieve all my files off the time capsule. I was told to simply "drag and drop" the files from time capsule to my new macbook. apparantly not so simple. I see the the drive in finder and a lonely folder which I am seemingly unable to do anything with. any suggestions?

Drag and drop is not the way to go. Run Migration Assistant, found in your Applications/Utilities folder on the Macbook Pro. Follow prompts to recover information from a Time Machine backup, and point it to the Time Capsule.
Note that the recovery will recreate your old user from the iMac. You will have already set up a user on the MBP, but the files will not go into your new user - they'll go into your old user. Once you log out, you'll see your old user appear as a login option.

  • HT5022 How to share my photos from time capsule external drive over the internet.

I saw some article that, i can share my photos from time capsule drive over the internet. Also, heard it can be done through manual configuration of time capsule. Firstly, i do not see such option in my time capsule configuration. I did a factory reset assuming, i might have configured through auto mode for the first time (that could be the reason why i don't see manual option). Now, i don't know, how can i share my images over the internet frome time capsule drive, without using my mac book system up and running all the time.. I wanted to create a secured user id/password to let the other users to access my network share drive. Is that possible?

Please check out the following AirPort User Tip on how your Time Capsule can be accessed from the Internet to get you started.

  • Recovering invisible folders from Time Capsule backup

How do I recover hard_desk/var/ from my Time Capsule backup? The interface does not provide an obvious way to navigate to invisible files and folders.

    To recover a delete photo in iPhoto using Time machine do the following;
1 - know the title/file name of the photo you deleted.
2 - while in iPhoto activate TM.
3 - go back in TM to a date when the photo would be present.
4 - enter the title/file name in the search window of iPhoto.
5 - when the photo appears in iPhoto select it and click on the Restore button.
The photo will be restored and imported into iPhoto as a new import.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
